Yes standard camera setup is the best for 360 photo images. Currently am using Sony A7R II with Zeiss Batis 18mm and stitching 24 shots for around 394mp image size when stitched with 30% overlap. No stitch glitches and the highest zoom in quality ever. The other camera I use is that Insta360 Pro its a good stop gap between really high quality and the lower quality images.
There are videos on here how to do it. I use a device called the Optron iPano Allview. It is very similar to the Gigapan EPIC Pro V. Any camera can work with them.
The two 360 Gods in one room - hurrah!!!!!!!!!!! The xiaomi is due an update soon to up it to the full 4K so can't wait for that but still love how you can stream with the insta series so easily onto FB etc.
there can only be one God with CAPITAL G if two the one will limit the other just joking ;-) The xiaomi need the newest firmware update wonder if you can do this manually on iOS ot you have to wait until it appears in the app settings ?

i am not sure it is an update, my understanding is that they just upscaled their 3.5k video to 4k video in camera for marketing reasons, so it seems there will be no resolution improvement unless they also increase the video bitrate (this kind of cheap trick is not new in cameras, canon 1080p a few years ago had less visible resolution than panasonic 720p)

OIhj well itrs still brilliant, it surpasses my 4K samsung in stills and video as it is with ease so I won't worry b ut I'd hjave the thought the sensors and lenses were more than capable of 4K resolution so maybe the firmware might tweak the algorithims to give true 4K but lets see, its still going to be fun.

I do use the 2016 gear 360 but it wasn’t for Android. It is only for a select few Samsung phones. Again it always requires a work around using a modded app ( which I’ve still never used without problems). I never got to transfer video via the app on my LG phone. The key code for gear action director program I got with gear 2016 does work on Mac. But I’ve recently noticed the stitching via the program on Mac is leaving a black box on photos and videos. I still highly rate this camera but the 2017 version is now £100 on tobydeals. I have just ordered the Xiaomi Mi sphere so thank you for all the reviews.
And the overall winner (best price/performance, 3 axis gyro, invisible selfie-stick with remote control, RAW files, super short and extra long exposure time, high bit-rate, time laps and interval) is... the Xiaomi 😉

History. 360 spherical photos were created before digital cameras. Film were scanned, then the images stitched together. Even with digital cameras cameras, when they were first introduced the resolution was low, so only way to get decent results was to shoot many angles. Using a fisheye lens, and shooting fewer photos was an option but resolution would be much lower. The big advantage to shooting multiple shots and stitching them together is that it is easy to remove the photographer from the final panorama; just stand behind the camera with each shot. The big advantage of the all-in-one multiple lenses in a single camera, panorama camera is the ease of use. The small parallax of the two lenses is enough to make the monopole disappear. The IMU levels the final shot that you don't need to worry about what direction the camera is in, just get the camera to the position that gives the best perspective or PoV.

Yeah you're right, the app's just called Gear 360 on the Mac, which looks to be a bit different to Action Director for PC. But does work with a 2016 Gear 360 serial number, so you can use that to activate the software. But I do agree the results aren't as good as what you get out of other stitching apps, so probably not worth using really.

I don't need special features just something that takes high quality 360 photos that can be easily shared and viewed on iPhone and desktop pc. The use of this pictures will mainly be used for reference, such as planning an exterior or interior construction projects...or evaluating completed projects. This means the pictures will need to capture details and even have the ability to zoom in on certain areas. The other main need is sharing and viewing these photos. Hi guys, entertaining video, well done. Just a couple of comments regarding the "making money" effect of having such a camera. Obviously is up to each individual to assess what is the kind of final quality that they want to deliver, but having said that, it is good to know that many people are doing virtual tours for businesses with Theta cameras, even Google recommends it for its business view/google maps trusted program. So in theory you don't even need to go into the over $1000 category to get that done. The other comment is about the Panono, I know that Mic is a great fan of that camera, he even has more than one :-) but at that price point of $2000 It is no surprise that they went bankrupt. Yes it has a ton of megapixels but it only does photography, no video ,and for 2/3rds of that price you can get a midrange dslr with fisheye lens or even cheaper a mirrorless camera with a $200 8mm samyang lens and you will get not only even more and bigger megapixels but real image quality and nowadays stitching is really not an issue the software out there is fantastic. My 2 cents!

Hello from Portugal! Congratulations for the video. I would like to see a good review of the "Vuze 4K 3D 360 Camera". It has the 3D stereo video and photo but with a much lower price that the Insta360 Pro. And I've notice that the "layout" of Vuze camera goes in the direction of a VERY expensive camera that is the "Samsung 360 Round Camera System". And, personally, I feel like its a good layout camera since it mimics the human eye! What do you think?

The xiomi has bracketing so you can do hdr with it right? You need to do some post but that is done in no time. I want to but the mi sphere so bad, but I need hdr fotos for my interior photography. Thanks for the great video.

What is the best high res low light solution for video and photos? For photos I use a SONY A7 with a 12mm fish and a pano head, but even so, I would like to try something that shoots and stitches in camera for times I'm in tight settings.
I was a crowd funder for Panono for >3 years, they told me that BS about a new financial supporter too ~6 months ago then I got sent papers about 3 months ago to attempt my funds recovery through the legal system in Europe, I am still waiting for my money. I would love a working Panono but I am not going near them again.

The Mac App is just for stitching. You can not cut videos with it. This is only possible in Windows.

I only just got the Yi yesterday but I can tell you already that the dynamic range isn’t good.. go for the Theta V in HDR mode 👍

It does have HDR for PC editing, but I’ve not seen a bracketing option. Still you’ll get a damn good result 👍

DYNAMITE KOREAN actually xiaomi has manual mode. Shutter speed can be from 1/6400 to 32 seconds. So yes it takes low light photos as well.

I was a crowd funder for Panono for >3 years, they told me that BS about a new financial supporter too ~6 months ago then I got sent papers about 3 months ago to attempt my funds recovery through the legal system in Europe, I am still waiting for my money. I would love a working Panono but I am not going near them again.

+Victoria Yakhontova when you improvise a 50 minute video there isn’t going to be a perfect time allocation for each camera- we talked about the ones we naturally gravitated towards. Please watch my Insta360 One review, it goes into much more detail and will cheer you up from your upsettedness.

How come you didn't review the DJI OSMO?

Actually, you can do 360 photography with the OSMO. I have taken several 360's with the OSMO and the great part about it is that it is totally automated:

Seems like that’s not a full 360.. just the middle section (missing top and bottom)
It does top and bottom.
Oh by the way, the reviews you guys did are great.
Why wasnt this shot in 360 video.....
There’s a time and a place for 360 and this most certainly isn’t it!
