Ive photographed 3 weddings so far and set up a 360 camera to record the ceremony and sit down meal as a free extra and every couple has loved the results - something as simple as imaging each table with a 360 photo just blows people away.
Ben, some of the things you said in the beginning regarding competition are not actually true anymore now in June 2020 (esp. in times of pandemic), but mate, this was really inspiring... like all your videos... I bought my Mi Sphere 2 years ago (after watching one of your comparison videos) to offer Real Estate VT, along with the photos i already offered, but never actually put it to use. I know it is only good enough in its mid-range category, but I'm trying to learn the tricks to make the most of it, before I think of and can afford an upgrade... for now, i'll just have to make do with it... But I've learned so much from your videos... Thank you, mate, for sharing your passion and knowledge!

Thanks for the video guys! I launched my 360 video production website a few days ago and already started reaching small businesses like gym clubs, restaurants, real estate. For the moment no replies... But I hope it's going to work out! Alex seems to be more into filmmaking for big brands and not so much local businesses, how do I sell myself to those people without a background and being a solo freelancer?
No worries- I think with one really good example piece of what clients could get, whether it be a virtual tour, 360 photos or a 360 video, tells them ‘this could be your business!’. A showreel or at least one example is crucial. It’s also worth trying a free job for a client you’d like to acquire, use it as a proof of concept for potential future work they could take you up on, and at the very least you have yourself a nice 360 showreel piece 👌🏻

What is the best 360 camera for still photos. I am interested in getting the GARMIN virb 360 as the video is good and you can replace the lenses but stills are not that good.

Thanks! Clients can really be any business really that currently uses traditional photo and video on social media to reach their customers- a good way to get their attention is to make something highly relevant to them and tag them in it, or email your local businesses and show them what you can do with a 360 camera. Placing ads on Craigslist etc like a videographer usually would, is a good way to go too 😎

Sorry to burst the bubble, but 360 photography has been around for a quite a while now. I personally have been doing it as a hobby for nearly 15 years now. There also have been many websites promoting virtual 360 tours for years as well. Ever hear of a fish eye lens? Yes it takes a little more work to produce a 360 panorama with a regular SLR digital camera, but the quality is far better than what you get from a $200 dedicated point and shot "360 camera". So really nothing new, except now everyone can do it with relative ease.
Hi Joey, yes I’m aware of the panoramic community/industry being around for many many years. However it’s ALWAYS been a small community with not much visibility. Times are changing, firstly with the reach you now have to promote yourself to every potential business on planet earth in minutes through the internet, but if you have a point and shoot camera (and know how to use it) you can still create a decent virtual tour product for a small business (who obviously have the budget to match). Yes we can agree the DSLR method is much better, but those are for clients with bigger budgets who need a high end result. Not every business needs that, or can afford it. For small businesses a basic, affordable 360 tour or promotional 360 video is better than having nothing :)
@@BenClaremont Do you belive One R is good selection for real estate or One X is better. Or maybe something else? I really like Matterport and they do not go with One R, yet at least. I'm thinking about One R due to it's sporty accents, while One X is less for that and more for something calm...
How much do you charge? Obviously, it varies with small medium and large business, but even for a small business that only has 4 or 5 rooms what would you charge for a virtual tour?

Cool it would be nice to talk about recording time using one single charge so lets say the Fusion for a single charge at max settings would not use more than a 32GB or 64GB microsd card..that way people don't go crazy into buying 128GB cards if you are not going to use it anyways...thanks for your quick response great youtube channel keep up the work... Honest question... how do you go about setting a price for 360 degree photography services? Two weeks ago I was taking photos of a local Rotary Club's Christmas lights/Winter Wonderland walk through at the town zoo when a couple of volunteers there asked about my camera. So I spent some time showing them some photos and explains how the camera worked. They were quit impressed and went and pulled another volunteer over to check out my photos. As it turns out all the volunteers at that entrance worked at a local hotel and the guy they pulled over was their manager. He rather liked my photos and expressed some interest in hiring me to come take photos of their new conference space. Now I'm just an amateur photographer but I am interested in possibly hiring out to do 360 photography work... but I have absolutely no idea how to go about setting a fair price for my work. Or even what services should be included as part of the job... Any suggestions? I'm rather flummoxed here.
Have you working in freelance photo/video before? If not the way to go is starting cheap (maybe $20-$30 an hour) and as you build your confidence to execute the job that number will slowly go up. When I was freelancing in videography it ended up at about $100 an hour because I was really confident with what I was doing and had the kit to back it up. If I had of kept doing that, my rate would have kept creeping up too. I see 360 as no different!

Truthfully I'm more likely to undervalue my work than not. But as you say part of that is a confidence issue backed by a lack of experience.

it seems particularly suited for stills, with a still you can look around and get all the information from the image... like a huge picture. With video, you tend to want to stick to where you think the action is.. "look around" seems to sit better with a still photo than a video. Well, it seems to me.. at the moment lol .. for video, I'd say a more "still" setting would suits better as when their is action in a video, that holds your attention so you will not likely start looking around and risk missing anything.... some action stuff, like skydiving would be an action shot that would suit though... ... 360 seems to give the creative mind a nice kick, nice. Cheers for the video. Do you have a minimum resolution you recommend for stills and for video?

For the last 3 years I'm making money as a Google street view trusted photographer, who sells 360view inside local businesses. In that case google statistic would prove that client are interested in viewing 360. Else, nobody cares of 360...

Thanks- just because you own a 360 camera, doesn’t mean you should use it in every situation.. videos like this are better shot with a DSLR

Nope, I've never worked in freelance photography before so I've got no baseline to start from when it comes to figuring out a fair price. Truthfully I'm more likely to undervalue my work than not. But as you say part of that is a confidence issue backed by a lack of experience.

Most 360 video players will have a ‘headset’ option in the form of a little icon in the video window.. just press it and you’re good to go 👍

What are your opinions about the business now in 2020?
it seems particularly suited for stills, with a still you can look around and get all the information from the image... like a huge picture. With video, you tend to want to stick to where you think the action is.. "look around" seems to sit better with a still photo than a video. Well, it seems to me.. at the moment lol .. for video, I'd say a more "still" setting would suits better as when their is action in a video, that holds your attention so you will not likely start looking around and risk missing anything.... some action stuff, like skydiving would be an action shot that would suit though...

To film us, the A7R II. The camera I’m playing with is the Garmin VIRB
4k video takes forever to edit and upload. 360, might take even longer, i want to learn but, my computer is too slowww.

After a year working, i finally got my own 360º camera, because here a simple Ricoh Theta S costs R$2.500 (around $750). For the last 3 years I'm making money as a Google street view trusted photographer, who sells 360view inside local businesses. In that case google statistic would prove that client are interested in viewing 360. Else, nobody cares of 360...
