    I have few 360 cameras each good in a specific field, INSTA360 PRO for Professional , Theta V for tight areas, Gopro Fusion for drone and bumpy areas, Garmin for backup professional , Kodak Pixpro SP360 4K for 3D 180 , Insta360 One for bullet and easy over-capture on your mobile and still use the 12 GOPRO rig from 360rize for 12k 360 videos. One camera missing is a proper 360 drone camera at least 5.7k and up small easy for traveling.

      @BenClaremont  6 лет назад

      Interesting- do you think the Fusion doesn’t fit that description? It’s 5.2k but looks much higher resolution than that

    • @ChrisduPlessisPhotosofAfrica
      @ChrisduPlessisPhotosofAfrica 6 лет назад

      No fusion is also good, I found out you can save 5.7k out of fusion now with bit of coding yes

    Thanks for the shout out Ben! I think the issue with Yi is that if you dont have a Windows PC you are left only with mobile and as you said, with mobile it is mediocre. I'll do another updated review to show more about it because i think the video detail is really excellent. Best regards, Mic

    • @gidas360
      @gidas360 6 лет назад +2

      360Rumors.com i would agree here with Mic. For photo this camera is not that good. But for video it's a bargain at that 399 price. The worlkflow using pc is easy.

    • @BenClaremont
      @BenClaremont  6 лет назад +1

      Great- looking forward to it! Yeah I think for Mac and iPhone users it’s unusable, and that’s 50+% of 360 camera owners there. But for PC users it could definitely be a viable option 👍

      Not only does the Yi360VR shoot high bitrate 5.7k 360 video, but its Windows app "Yi 360 Studio" uses optical flow to make nearly-perfect seams. I've worked with a lot of 360 footage, and the Yi360 is shockingly good for the price. Do fire up a virtual or real machine and give it another go.
      I've managed to get Yi 360 Studio to successfully stitch footage on MacOS using Wine, but it's difficult to use as parts of the software interface aren't rendering properly and so it must be operated blind.
      The Yi also seems to have good heat management. I've done very long captures while recording to a 128Gb SD card with the camera connected to an external USB battery.

      I really thought the Insta 360 one would make good videos but it can not replace a gimbal with a decent action cam. The image quality looks like potato mode.
      I watched a dozen of reviews by now and no one of you guys do actually action driven outdoor stuff. What a shame because then you would INSTANT see how bad this camera actually is.
      My GoPro 3 Black with a 3 axis Gimbal make much better shots than this.

    I have a channel with 90k+ subs, bought the Insta360 ONE based on your reviews, live Streaming doesn't work with accounts that have multiple RUclips Channels on one account, make sure to mention that next time. I just spent money on "360 Live stream" camera that doesn't work for creators like me :( :(. should have gone for the go pro fussion, better video, and can't stream either.

    • @BenClaremont
      @BenClaremont  6 лет назад

      How am I supposed to know that? So few people need to stream from multiple accounts, that even if I knew, I’m not going into that level of detail in a video like this that covers so many cameras. Ask in the Insta360 Facebook group, I’m sure there a way around it.

    I feel totally vindicated in my Christmas purchase of an Insta360 One. Literally the only thing I don't like about it is that the quality when re-framed could be better, but for the price I'm more than happy to wait for an 8K camera to become affordable. The stabilisation is AMAZING and with the most recent update is easily as good as the Rylo but at half the price. Best entry-level 360 camera IMHO.

    Have to say, I have now bought the Samsung 360 old version thanks to this channel (and had one outing already even though the weather is not great). And a couple of thoughts for those interested (I'm going to discuss photography side):
    1. It is a great camera for stills (in fact better than samsung's newer one) with 30MP files and for this price it really is a steal - you can amuse facebook friends with your clever 360 photos, you can upload directly to Google Street View (camera has all the settings needed, you just need ANY android phone).
    2. You don't need to use a smartphone to get 360 photos - the device is configurable enough and you can set a delayed timer if you need to get out of the view. And you can upload the photos directly to your pc or mac (samsung's software is shocking though - some sort of repackaged CyberLink app).Once you get the stitched file you are free to use any software - photoshop will let you open and edit the 360 environment on the fly removing all the stitching artifacts).
    3. Drum-roll.... you can get an unlocked 360 gear app from XDA developers which means you don't need a Samsung phone to enjoy the benefits of changing camera settings on the fly and reviewing footage immediately. I would definitely put this into a "BUY" category for photos (might be an idea for this channel to review the other side of 360 equipment).
    4. You will want GOOD light for this to give you shots that you can be proud of. And by that I mean sunshine or dappled shade. Forget indoors and low light (dusk/dawn) shots.
    All the best! Al

    Couldn't agree more with the Insta 360 One, I'm glad it was my first 360 camera, killer feature for me was live streaming events and gigs, the new update is great but still has a few bugs, looking forward to receiving the Fusion tomorrow as I've been waiting months for this! Clients are loving the addition of 360 to my photography and hopefully the fusion lives up to it.

    one thing to remember about every 360 camera is lense distance. so many "experts" on 360 cameras overlook this. The closer the lenses are to each other the better the stitching will be. This will make a near invisible seam when looking back at the video (pictures not so much because of photo spoofing during the auto stitching process of any camera). This is why I absolutely hate the virb because it is so thicc and why I love the gear 2017 over the 2016. I'm personally rocking the fusion because it simply has the best color sensor and best stitching while staying in a conosumerish range. I'm looking at getting the theta V mainly for livestreaming and battery life (another thing "experts" over look). All that said, I do like your quick opinion review of the camera lists.

    I'm liking my GoPro Fusion :) I discovered what the Fusion software really wants. It wants a very strong GPU to process the video on a computer. The Fusion software makes better use of the GPU than lots of other video editing software.

      I love my fusion, but I can tell you, the fusion software does like GPU power but it loves fast storage as well, if you are stitching in 5.3k. If in just 4k, then fast storage doesn't matter too much.

    Awesome video!!! I bought the Rylo 360 yesterday but I'm returning it. Although the stabilization is amazing, there are 3 things that killed it for me. 1. You can't charge while filming. 2. It only works with a couple SD Cards (very particular), 3. The app is amazing, but my phone can't store an hours worth of video, and there's no way to make the app used the external memory card. Also, 4. The app (android) crashes, 5. the water proof case is expensive, 6. I can't find after-market batteries.

      I have failed to get the insta360 One to work with any of Samsung S6, Moto G4, or LG G5. It seems it will only work with a VERY limited subset of Android phones, and insta don't seem interested in changing that. OTOH the insta360 Air works on all three of my Android phones.

    excellent video!! i'm still using the original Samsung Gear 360 (2016). I completely agree that having one beats not having one. It's much easier to take 360 photos with a real 360 camera than using my smartphone to stitch a 360 photo.

      Thanks- like I’ve mentioned in my past videos you need a fast computer setup to work with it. And if you do, it destroys all of these cameras! So it’s more for prosumers than consumers who only want to use a phone.

    • @DigitalicaEG
      @DigitalicaEG 6 лет назад

      LIFE in 360 i understand, but that in it self disqualifies it from being on the Buy list. I mean the Rylo to me beats it hands down in terms of ease of use and accessibility and it didn't make it to the list. It's like trying to use an F1 car as a daily driver, it might be fastest but it doesn't make it a good idea.

    • @BenClaremont
      @BenClaremont  6 лет назад

      When your shoot 360 you want the best result possible.. and the Fusion gets the best result possible. Speed of workflow isn’t important to everyone, especially those who want the best looking footage possible.

  • @W0LFMAN2

    I had the same problem with my Samsung 360 same as your model. I found that if you leave it for over 2-3 weeks the battery completely discharges. It needs a very small trickle charge to get it working again. Like a car ciggerate lighter supply charge leave it in there for 10-15 min then it will have enough charge to work. Then you can plug it into a faster charger. Problem will happen again though if you leave it discharge completely again.

    I have a Gear360 and it experienced the same power on issues. I noticed it on February 20, 2019 after it sat on my shelf for 3 months. Just keep plugging it with different USB C cables and use the USB / USB c adapter. I plugged it with an Apple cube wall power adapter yesterday (March 5, 2019) and it finally registered the power on. I suspect there is some oxidation on the power terminals so plugging in and out may have brushed off the oxide off the terminals. It will eventually power on. Good Luck.

    Thank you for the comparison now you make me want to get another one. I have just bought the Theta V and have been testing it for the Google Streetview program. It is a way to shoot video of an area upload it to Google Maps by way of the Streetview app and contribute your own personal additions to Streetview. It is a niche application but some of your viewers may be into that kind of thing. I have posted a how-to video on the way that it is done if there is any interest. I was forced into the Theta V since I wanted the Streetview capability and it is the only one currently available to do it with. Google wants everything mapped in Streetview so there will be a lot of activity on this in the future as far as I can see.

    Some of your meh's have my cardinal points. I look for the same features as for my action cam:
    1. Good enough resolution photo and video (not sure yet for 360 )
    2. Good output wo. any post prod
    3. iPhone only workflow
    4. Waterproof without housing
    5. Ok video stabilisation

    I want to mount a 360 camera to the bow of a canoe and possibly to my white water kayak. With that in mind what would be the better? I have an old MacBook it doesn't handle 4K well so the GoPro may have issue, but I usually put my footage to a 6TB external storage and use proxy media in FCPX.

    I have the gear 360 which I use quite often and always in "photography" mode.
    I do have one question: is there a "hack" or workaround that I can use to insert my own logo in order to cover up the small portion of tripod that's visible in each image?
    There is the option to use something similar in the settings menu but not only inserts a Samsung 360 logo.

    We were trying out this project recently using the Ricoh Theta S but couldn't create a proper HDR since it doesn't have RAW support for images. What 360 cam would you recommend for RAW image capture? (automatic stitching support for free on top would be a plus) (edit: it's a vfx-related project, so we're looking for proper dynamic range...aside from doing it with a DSLR)

  • @NickGapp

    I have an Old Gear 360, Two Garmin Virbs and a GoPro Fusion. The GoPro definitely has the best quality imagery and over all package as long as you have a great PC, but I think you missed a big win for the Garmin which in my opinion has one of the best workflows of any camera. The auto stitching isn't perfect, but it's still autostiching 4k footage, which many camera's on the list don't have. I would put it in the Consider pile, not the Meh. Workflow shouldn't be overlooked in a review. Plus as great at GoPro is, it's design doesn't make it great for drones, turning into an unwanted sail, and I've already experienced a fair share of freezing and glitches on the Fusion. Again, the fusion has the best image quality for the price, but it has a lot of baggage.

    • @BenClaremont
      @BenClaremont  6 лет назад

      At $799 the VIRB is out of most people’s price range and really not worth paying more than the Fusion for. Actually most of them stitch in-camera these days too however there are more important factors like usability and the look the camera produces. Workflow is a big priority for me and if I addressed the workflow of every camera, this would be a 60 minute video instead of 20 minutes. Instead I gave my recommendations based on my overall experience of each camera.

    Anyone else having issues with the Theta V not clearing out the memory from old deleted files? Support said to try deleting the 100Ricoh folder using the Windows App, tried that still shows 5 GB used up with no files. Support said that I need to return this because my camera has corrupt memory, but looking at forums this is an on-going issue ever since the Theta S.... How do you get by without filling up the memory? Also I recorded 2 long videos apparently the card needs double the space to render a clip, so I had to delete one of them so this thing can really only record a 25 minute long video not the 45 minutes it shows available?

    • @BenClaremont
      @BenClaremont  6 лет назад +1

      To be honest I’ve never had that issue.. have you tried deleting the files individually through the app?

    • @Stagecast360
      @Stagecast360 6 лет назад

      LIFE in 360 yes I deleted the all through the app which support said today only to delete files through the PC app? Kinda strange anyways ended upgrading the newest firmware released today now it cleared my issue all memory restored. I think what happened was while I was stitching the long video over to my phone I was outside with them when the camera overheated & shut off in the middle...must of stuck a partial file that was hidden maybe. Anyways it's working now other issue I ran into if you record say a 10GB 25 minutes max video the camera needs at least double to render so I couldn't stitch any files longer than 9GB luckily I figured out you can copy them to my PC & use the PC app to stitch them first one I had a corrupt render from the previous firmware then the new firmware recording today worked without issues & plays fine now. Will do more video testing soon hopefully this thing will work out now so I don't end up returning it because this thing has lots of potential & features just wish it had more memory or expansion to work with instead of work around.

    So I am trying the Madventure because it came with the selfie stick and tripod and I like the visual orange so I can find it. Think it will be fun, going to the ski slopes in two weeks.

    - reason is that I have a Koi pond, and I would like to have a camera under water at all time to check up at my koi.

    Hey!!! I really enjoyed this video, thanks for putting in the time and effort making it! :)
    I had a few questions, as of now (late September 2018) is the Insta360 One still your best pic for a consumer camera under the $600 price range? Also, when you record with this camera, does the software use the gyroscope sensor data to autocorrect for the horizon (like if the lens is pointing downward will the video stiching correct for the horizon)? Do you know the Insta360 One's blind spot distance? Like between lens to lens. And my final question! If you were to mount a dual lens 360 camera to something like a drone or a mountain bike which camera is the current best out there under $600? Thanks again! I really hope you read this 😅
