Great video, just finished doing one myself (No start, click issue), I have yet to start the car but the procedure is done. Just some quick tips to help anyone. I did an 07 Wrangler 4 door and I did not have to move the exhaust or drive shaft, it is a tight fit but did it comfortable. On the bolt that holds the bracket to the shaft all you have to do is loosen it and it will come off. The parking pawl or whatever it’s called will click off once you move the shaft (clockwise) and the slowly pry it down. To go back on just line it up on the little slot, the pawl has a little notch on the bottom that will hold it in place then just put the valve body all the way (make sure it goes smooth) then finger thread one bolt and turn the shaft counterclockwise all the way and it will snap in. To verify it’s in, find the parking position with the shaft, make sure drive shaft doesn’t move, then put it in gear and drive shaft should move. Thank you guys for this video, saved me a lot of time.
have you ever tried to bypass the clutch safety switch on your 07 wrangler 4 door? We bought one that was bypassed but now it failed inspection so trying to find where they bypassed it or where the easiest spot would have been to give us a starting point to look.
I have a 2012 liberty 4x4 same symptoms just a click sometimes very intermittent. replaced starter 3 times new battery and alternator. Would the neutral safety switch be inside the transmission as well? Also how much would that job run at a shop?
Very helpful video. Question.. just got my valve body back in place but how do I know if the park pawl is engaged correctly before i continue to put everything back in place?
Hey man. Curious about what your symptoms were on your jeep and how did you come to the conclusion that you needed this part ? Also, what year Jeep do you have ? Thanks.
@@franktotino5189 hey gotta do this job on my jeep, it had a p0706 code and all the gear indicating light were lit up, no crank, no start, either pcm or range sensor 2008 Jeep Liberty
This was a fantastic video explaining all the pains. I recently did my tranny fluid and it was so painful. Can't imagine taking down that valve body. I'm getting intermittent issues with start, I just move the stick to neutral and it works. Any idea if it'll get worse and one day it won't start no matter where the shifter is?
Was the switch that sits on top of the neutral safety switch the Torque Converter lockout switch? I’m working on a P0740 on my 2004 TJ and I can’t find any good listing of which electrical connection is for the TCC lockout.
@@HomeownerRepair darn. That’s the most common answer. Lol. I just want to test the electrical continuity and resistance before throwing parts at her. Heat, vibration and mice love jeeps. Lol

I have a brand new starter and battery in the vehicle. The alternator isn’t even a year old either. When I go to turn the key I’m just getting a click from the starter. Sometime the vehicle starts and other times it does not. I’m very frustrated and I can’t figure out what is going on. Sometimes the neutral safety switch is the problem and I wiggle the shifter and it starts but other times I hear a different noise and it’s just the starter clicking. List anything you think it could be. Thankyou sm if you respond. Love the channel.
My daughter's wrangler 2010 has the same problem as yours - changed the starter motor, new battery, it turned out to be the ignition starter switch which located at the steering column. It take about 30 mins to replace. Tyr it, and please update your result. cheers
I have this same issue and I replaced my ignition switch at the column. But still having some no start issues. I put it in neutral and it’s starts. Wth is the neutral safety switch in the transmission??? Jeep sucks.
I'm about to attempt this on the ground as I have no lift. Yall have definitely helped this driveway mechanic with the step by step. My one question is how many quarts did it end up needing. I've heard you need 7 to 8 but the video said 4. Thanks for the video!
It was a little under 8 quarts. We mention this in the intro before we roll into the video. Hope this helps you out, not an easy job..this is a common thing to fail on these Jeeps. I bought an OE replacement switch on Rock Auto
thanks so much y’all, i have a 42rle but it’s in a rwd charger and the tranny pan has really nothing blocking it so it hopefully should go a little smoother. but this is the only rescource i could find on even the location of the switch. thank you!
OMFG!! I am just going to keep pushing shifter forward when starting!! It’s kind of a theft protection is how I’m looking at it since my Jeep door doesn’t lock!! Lol
I just got this done on my Jeep at a shop and now…N, D and D2 on the shifter when driving have a lot of play (when driving they was not there prior to job). How do get it fixed?
I have this code on my 2009 jeep wrangler X 2d but nothing is wrong jeep shift normal and start right up I heard from people that if you have faulty neutral safety switch the car won’t even turn on but my jeep don’t do anything like that but the code is still there. I had to do this to my Jeep too and just wanted to point out for anyone else for how it gets hung up on the exhaust that if you remove the four bolts holding the valve solenoid on and take that off first as it’s hung up on the exhaust that the rest of it will come free. So you don’t have to loosen up anything else or drop the exhaust.

Yes. I have brake lights. Jeep starts up fine in park and neutral. Wont start in drive or reverse like it should. I step on the brake and have power down to the shifter. You may want to check the park pal to see if it is in the correct position.
you were lucky, you had a couple of guys to help you with this job. i did it by myself on the ground in the az heat
It's definitely a way easier job with a couple hands to help you out

What is the code pointing to?
Forgive my ignorance... Is this the same switch as the B/U Lamp switch?
The reverse light switch should be located on the side of the transmission somewhere.
Do both solenoids face up?
AT 26:35 it shows the position of them. Hope this helps out.
Best how to vid ever. thanks guys

Is this for a manual transmission too?
No this is just for an automatic tranny
did you ever find any info for the manual transmission im looking for the info

How much would this cost to have done? I have neither the time or patients to perform this kind of maintenance at home

I am not sure on that particular model. This Jeep is an 08.
How much would a job like that cost I’m having the same problem

Anyone know how to release the parking pawl? Kinda stuck.
We show you how to do that in this video. It's a pain.
What socket do u use to turn it to release it. 19 too small
I have to do this to my jeep liberty, under 4 jack stands. I wish i had a hydraulic lift.
Wouldn't with that on anyone. It's not the easiest job.
