My opinion is that this switch is very much misnamed. It is anything but safe. In fact, it could be downright dangerous in certain situations where you need to be able to start your car right up. I'd never even heard of a neutral safety switch before my car developed problems with it. There were times it would start right away and other times where I would struggle and struggle with it before it would start. Now imagine if you (or one of your loved ones) were in a situation where you needed to get away quickly and that happened. No, this is not a good idea at all!
I recently changed this and the code still pops up the car cranks normally but when I put it in drive the sensor won’t read that it’s in drive but will still drive normally
so will this just one day not crank in park or neutral ? or is i a gradual thing where you can still get home if you move between park and neutral and try a few times?? then it may crank and start so you can go home and replace the part without getting stuck on the side of the road??? also will check engine light go on and stay on when its on its way out???thanks
My car just decided to not turn over in nuetral or park..I just bought a starter relay to see if it'll start..wish me luck but I'm feeling like its the nuetral switch
What if the transmission range sensor reads (park) and send that to the PCM But the shifter is actually at Reverse. Would it start in normal condition?
Your car will not start in reverse so yes they need to line up. Your manual lever controls the electronic reading in the transmission so it is essential that these are lined up
In classic cars a lot of times or things that you know you do a lot of hard racing and running hard sometimes even if you do the neutral safety switch it's still going to be a little bit off or the transmission is not going to catch because of the linkage underneath a little bit so don't forget to check that linkage even though it doesn't seem like it's related cuz those got all pop into the gear they got to turn right and for it to all start the transmission anyway turning or you know those words I'm having a bad brain day you know what I'm saying figure it out yourself haha
Ha another rant I was training today doing lots of running in the hills so of course I had to take my broncade ephedra performance enhancing lung asthma medication whatever they're calling it in the Olympics these days anyway sorry for the rants I was originally going to say yes the computer thing technical technically and I've noticed this since beginning again with my autism and I noticed patterns I didn't have to know anything about sci-fi or big brother or whatever to notice that once the computer started going computerized and the fuel injection anything like that we were losing power over being able to put make the vehicle work our way in our best mat interest. So theoretically the little computer module is supposed to be written in a way that it will not override everything and just do whatever it wants without waiting for the neutral safety switch and all the other old school safety implements to do their thing first that is totally potential for the computer chip and I have noticed this before people started talking about ai and how it starts learning you know it from us and teaching itself things and then just rewriting all the stuff that is that we have known to be true for our whole lives and giving us false information now because it's just spitting back whatever word salad had heard from 20 different people that don't know what they're saying and make then it's decides to make up its own thesis and yeah we're all f***** anyway so never say never and this is why what the author hear the main thing the author said is yeah I don't don't let anything go out yeah you can start it in a certain thing and get it to go but it's not a good idea you need to take care of that problem right away because that is a huge safety issue especially if you got a car that has a computer system the old school ones not as much but still you don't want things that don't go gears forward or years backwards or start when you're like stuck in the middle of the freeway all the sudden if the car stalls and you can't get it to go back turn back on because the linkage don't line up or the safety switch doesn't work correctly and you have to get out there and try to put them jump that then you're going to get run over and that's not funny can't take that back and that's all I'm going to say grandma Chevy cat out maybe

Happens to me and it was the arm (float) on the fuel pump had gotten stuck.. so it wouldn’t start even though it had half a tank of gas. Replaced pump and worked .
You just made me $150 ❤🎉
My 86 dodge will start but then die and will not even crank in park or neutral unless it sits for a day or 2. I'm leaning towards the ignition switch or ignition module. My question is Could the neutral switch cause the engine to die or does the neutral switch only keep the starter from cranking?
Neutral Switch will not cause car to die once it is started. It only keeps the starter from engaging.
I’ve got a no crank no start on my 2012 Ford Focus s 5 speed manual I try to start it and all the dashboard lights come on and there is a bunch of clicking noise and when I try to turn my headlights on the same thing happens I got it to start once but shut it off thinking 🤔 it would start again but it hasn’t what could this problem be?????????? I really need my vehicle
Starter solenoid. Imho. Im No professional but google it and lmk if it works, my brother had same issue years ago. Used to have to tap it w a hammer to start. *that's at least 1 possability* otherwise battery's can do that too. Should still kick start..
Thanks!
How do replace the safety switch?
My car does not start, no crank. The shift cannot be changed. But I can shift it when using override function on the transmission. Even I override the gear to "N", the car cannot be started. No indication of gear position on dashboard (Nothing show when shifting gear). With some other warning (TPMS, SH-AWD, VSA. Weird but occur when the problem comes). No error code because the engine cannot start and reader (scanner) cannot read. Can you tip on the troubleshooting?
Replace the God damn switch then, get a mobile mechanic to come out and get it done
@@herniagaming Thank you. Thank you for your guide. What I hesitated was: if the repair comes to a major repair with a cost of a few grands. Now I have decided to have it toured to a shop.
Bought a brand new switch from the dealer and only cranks in park can’t shift into 3rd or 2nd lower gears ford expl
Mine doesn’t do any of that, it just doesn’t let me move the analog stick unless I take out the cup holder and manually move the switch with a screwdriver
Ok, my 2013 Ford F150 doesn't have one on the outside of the transmission. They tell me it's internal on a 6-speed automatic, so now what?
@@Vowz9did it work
@@GeeChevy no. it was a bad starter unit got a new one and it cranks up perfect now
What if the transmission range sensor reads (park) and send that to the PCM
But the shifter is actually at Reverse.
I have a question we are trying to put our new part back on but the middle bolt that holds the transmission shifter braket spins freely. What could be the problem 😕thanks
Mine would SOMETIMES not start in park ..... seems more often now it wont start in park, like the problem is getting worse ...... so after 8ish tries I put it in Nuetral & it starts. - Now what if that 9th attempt were done in park, maybe it wouldve started, dont know.
What if beetle shuts off when put in reverse....? Everything shuts off even electrical
Great info
Goodman thank you!
I have a 03 accord v4 , it cranks but no start , I replaced the battery . Alternator , ignition coils , fuel pump too …. What can this beeee !!! Starter is also good
Before buying a part make sure you check if it has spark, fuel pressure good battery and if any fuses blown
Check for grounds compression and timing marks check if any codes come up as it could be cam or crank sensor or maf sensor even the catalyst converter
Everybody In Here Praying They're Transmission Isn't Bad 😂😂😂
What if you cant get into reverse?
Also makes your rpm’s weird
My car starts and drives but doesn't accelerate (rpms start going nuts) out of first gear. The mechanic is saying this is the problem but I'm not sure if that's it 🤔 what do you think?
Could be this , spark plugs , not having them gapped , ignition coils , mass air flow sensor , a bunch of other things too. Go to a parts store like autozone or oreillys or whatever is similar near to u and if ur check engine lights on u can get it done for free and get a print out of what it is too
@@blakedino2885 not having the spark plugs gapped?
Had similar problem. Turned out to be a faulty camshaft position sensor. Not sure if you got it fixed or not as this was 5 months ago but I figured I’d let you know in case anyone else reads this and could help them
I have 2002 Honda civic coupe EX 5 speeds that crank but won't start , my mechanic told me that it was the neutral safety switch and wants to charge me $250 for labor + parts. I told him that only applies to automatic, I told him that I replaced my self the clutch safety switch rubber and the car won't start. Mechanics are a joke.

I I’ll l
Stupidest switch ever lol
one more pos to make a vehicle unreliable and junk
This is sorta bad info for a standard..
2005 honda odyssey starts in park and in neutral. Why is the D light flashing? Thanks
I have a 17 odyssey and that light is your transmission or in my case the torque converter
Would this keep your car from going into gear even after it starts?
I second this question
Yess!
Nope
