Yes! Thank you! My bushing was broken, and I found the same bushing for the bottom also fit on this top part. 2005 Wrangler. I keep several spares now.
You magnificent wizard! I was thinking my issue was at the bottom of the cable, then I saw this and you were right. You saved my butt today. Thank you for your videos, definitely subscribing and turning on my notifications for you.
It could be a few different things. First check the interlock, once engaged, see if it will shift. If it does, you'll need to replace the interlock. It could be the shifter mechanism going into the transmission, disconnect the cable down at the transmission and see if the shifter will shift. If, after both those tests, it still shifts tight, it is probably the cable sticking inside the cable sleeve. You can disassemble, clean and lube it, though it is probably easiest just to replace the cable.
My bushing is not broken on my 2014jk, however I shift yo park and it stays in reverse. When I finally get it to go to park fidling with it for a while, I can not turn on. I have to shift to neutral like if it does not fully go into park. Wonder if shift cable is a gonner
I've got an 08 and it keeps coming off from above and below. Replaced the bushings and the entire cable too. Any ideas why it still comes off or how to prevent the bushings from sliding off?
Are you getting any codes? More than likely if you have forward gears, but no reverse gear, then either your shift module or your reverse clutches are going out, especially if this is a higher mileage Jeep. It would be best to check with your local transmission shop for more diagnostics.
Thank you so so much! This just happened to my son's 07 Rubicon and we just fixed it in 5 minutes. You are the best!
Glad it helped!

That is another common issue.
So should I just replace the shift cable??

So it is coming off on both ends? The transmission end and the shifter end?
