  • One Small Step - A Star Trek Fan Production was a project filmed and edited within the 2021/2022 Covid Restrictions of the United Kingdom.
    Because of the success of “A Long Way Home” released on April 30th 2021 and our 2021 Trek Shorts Indiegogo, we are proud to release a new BONUS Trek story!
    This short film goes back to the very start of the career of Anna Keeley, our hero from “A Long Way From Home”. Currently an ensign onboard the USS Challenger, her life is about to change as she’s been given a new assignment, helmswomen on the brand new USS Defiant. With her academy record exactly what Commander Sisko was looking for to join the Defiants crew, she will start this exciting chapter of her life…or so she thinks.
    Thank you to everyone who supported the 2021 Trek Shorts Indiegogo!
    If you enjoyed this film then put a comment down below!
    “Star Trek and all related marks, logos and characters are solely owned by CBS Studios Inc. This fan production is

      Well, we already have 2 Stargate and 3 other Star Trek films on this channel.
      We also had an successful Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to make series of new Short films! We raised funds for 6... I can tell you were making quite a lot more than 6 ;) From TNG era to Picard era...all connected in a MCU style expansive character story or 2.

    I like the feel-good aspects of this Star Trek short film for a young new Starfleet Officer to find her footing. Especially for a woman in a future where gender equality can finally be fully realized. That's certainly one of most positive messages from the Star Trek universe that the world needs more than ever.
    Thank you all for making and sharing this excellent fan film. 🖖🏻🖖🏼🖖🏽🖖🏾🖖🏿

    Thank you for stating the year your fan production is set in. I was about to nitpick the timeline continuity. For those who are as disoriented as I am the USS Defiant was launched in 2370 & Benjamin Sisko was promoted from Commander to Captain in late 2071. The Ensign's uniform and the Galaxy-class starship were still being used in this 2371, the year the USS Voyager was lost in the Bad Lands & When Generations was set in. Gray movie uniform design came out in 2373.

      Yep! The last shot of my episode is the first shot of the USS Defiant from its first appearance in "The Search" so its the week that DS9 S3 E1 takes place! :D
      I am very careful with my timeline connections, especially that I'm having Keely be an active member of the DS9 station/Defiant Crew specifically...so it all needs to fit!
      Yes, her Galaxy class were of the ones to already get the new uniforms :D

The only suggestion I’d make is that there should have been a few more people on the Defiant bridge, because when I saw she was the only one there, I knew right off that it was a holodeck scenario. All the technical work on the virtual sets is crazy good and the CGI work with the lighting and textures is such great quality. I imagine if TNG DS9 VOY we’re shot in high def it would look that way. The sound and music was familiar but different which was super cool. I love how you’re developing new stories that take place in universe and flushing them out around larger events we’ve seen on screen already. It’s a cool way to use the universe that’s already there with on screen canon and tell something new and different but still feel the same just like it belongs there all along.

      @@CaptRobertApril Thank you! This was the first film "properly" using my new cameras! "A Long Way From Home" was the test...i've improved since.
      Yes indeed, there are many films that way...although i've had to work with being "clever" over large casts...because when I try and do larger cast work there are problems and delays and I DONT want there to be massive delays. Convergence is already massively late to film the rest because of the full cast and Covid stopping us coming together.

    This is my favorite one so far. Kinda cheesey that there wouldn't be any other holographic crew in the training program though. But I can understand why.
    I feel bad for her meeting Sisko with half her uniform collar under her shoulder strap though, lol. Just a little goof, but if she beams down like that and he's standing right there, she's probably getting a stern talking to.
    I really loved it overall though. It was great to see the Galaxy class again. And an Andorian captain! Nice! I was kinda hoping there'd be a mention of LaForge as Captain since it's the Challenger, but I guess that hasn't happened yet. (That was his ship in Voy's Timeless right?)

      That's very nice to hear! Thank you!
      Ha! She is the kind of women who just wants to try and learn herself as the pilot. I saw it as, she had 2 days to travel back to Earth and she would stay up until 6am trying to learn all about the Defiant...but its not enough as she still fails in the simulation. The Simulation is also exclusively based on Starfleet's single interaction with the Dominion bug ships in DS9 S2E26 "The Adversary" hence the collision at the end.
      Ha! Indeed! She just thought she was going to beam onboard and bet met by another ensign...she had no clue Sisco would want to welcome her and give her the tour. Sisco's is really proud of this ship when he first launches her so...he loves to give the tour! I'm sure he wouldn't mind the uniform! Just have to set the bag down and straighten it all up! :D
      La Forge is still on the Enterprise E for at least another 8 years (Nemesis) Currently in fact La Forge is on the Ent D and it will be dealing with the Nexus any month now!
      But yes that is the same Challenger! :D

      I actually brought in my green screen plate and worked to match the scale and placement of the character inside the 3D scene. I was able to fully test how it would look and went with the shots I did. I even worked to make sure that her Hight would match the hight of the actress within the set when she was stood.

    This is a great starter story. I have but one tiny fact to point out: Jadzia was put at the helm every time the Defiant was taken out after they reached DS9.

    • @SGUDistantHope
      @SGUDistantHope  2 года назад +1

      So, every starship has shift rotations for the crew and also backup crew encase an officer isent able to join a mission. Keely was brought on as the "night shift"/ backup helms officer...although she did fly plenty of missions both during the war and before the war. Jadzia wasn't available 100% of her time to swap from her urm...science work...to be a pilot lol.
      Its all been thought though! :D We didn't see every day and every mission in the life of those people serving on DS9.

    • @ChristinaMoore79
      @ChristinaMoore79 2 года назад

      @@SGUDistantHope I am quite well aware that we probably did not see every single thing that happened in any incarnation of Star Trek, and assumed Keely was probably a relief pilot. That said, it's a fact you might have made more clear in the dialogue of this story, or one that you might make clear in the future, as DS9 fans know it was Jadzia -- and later Nog -- who was the primary pilot of the Defiant.
      Unless, of course, you intend to establish your universe as an alternate to the Prime universe. Then, of course, you can do whatever you like. :)

    • @SGUDistantHope
      @SGUDistantHope  2 года назад

      @@ChristinaMoore79 Oh sure, but its worth pointing out.
      No, every one of my films is crafted specifically to fit into prime canon and be an extension of that canon.
      I don't think anyone really thinks that Jadzia was the pilot of the Defiant for every random patrol mission or survey mission. She was DS9's chief science officer and its likely she only went on the most important missions.
      This short if from Keelys perspective, she has just been given the assignment and will actually be flying back on the Defiant to DS9 before even Jadzia and the crew have seen it. In later scripts I do talk about explicitly what her job actually looks like, I think I even name the other helm officers of the Defiant in dialogue.
      Saying Jadzia was the primary pilot to the Defiant is the same as saying Obrien was primary engineer of DS9, very true...but we all know there was a team around them to do things when they were not able. No one expects Obrien to be fixing everything himself, we rarely see an engineering team helping him on screen. Same to with Jadzia :D
      I've thought all this through, believe me ;) Great comment though, lets me show how much thought i have put in :D

    • @ChristinaMoore79
      @ChristinaMoore79 2 года назад

      @@SGUDistantHope Indeed, hence why I said I assumed Keely would be a relief pilot.
      But it was pretty well established that Jadzia *was* the primary pilot since she was nearly always the pilot we saw at the helm until she was killed off. Then it was Nog. I'm perfectly well aware that there are shifts and rotations for each position and that the senior officer who holds that job may not always be available. I watched every episode of DS9 and can still recall sitting in front of the TV for the premiere, so I also know what position Jadzia (and O'Brien) held when they were assigned there. I know they had teams to do the job when they needed food or sleep or other time off.
      I write fan fiction too, Sam, and have done for a very long time. I know how Starfleet works. I know how the writing process works and it's great that you have thought things through so thoroughly. I still feel like, for the novice viewer, it would be a good idea to establish certain facts, even minor ones, in dialogue or even voice-over. Since this short does come from Keely's perspective, she could have explained her exact role in her log entry that we heard -- though I am pleased to know there will be an explanation eventually! I also love to imagine all my stories taking place in the Prime universe, but Picard kinda forced me to consider it an alternate because of the direction they took certain characters.
      And hey, it's your story. Tell it the way you want to and ignore nitpicky questions from viewers if it pleases you. ;)
