    • @dominonmedia298
      @dominonmedia298 2 года назад +5

      THANKS.. my wife is deaf and plays that part We used to have her speak one or two lines which were easy for her to pronounce, which made me feel bad that she had to REALLY practice to get the line right and only speak 1 or 2 lines...So, so we went the OTHER WAY.. made her character deaf and the Universal Translator speaks her lines. We had an episode that showed that her glasses displayed holographic sign language for the person or channel she was monitoring.. Other channels or "chatter" appear in closed caption that she can select to bring to the foreground. It works for her and the story.. She can sign her lines and we can give her much more to "say". ASL is such an expressive language and she can use it and her facial expressions easier communicating with us in her preferred method. PLUS.. we sure like shooting her lines.. NO one has to be QUIET .. we don't use any sound when shooting her.. we add in sound effects and another actress speaks her lines for the voice of the Universal Translator.

It’s an incredible film I would recommend everyone watch this a hick of a of time. To me this one will out live us all. This is a master piece and should be nominated for the best film and all the people. Should get the award because the amount on energy and time that was put into making this. • @gdavisohio
      @gdavisohio 2 года назад +1

      Nav/Deflector on the stern.. it's like when we were kids "Because I said SO!".. in this case. its "Because Franz Joseph said so!"... LOL. We went with the original design that was published in the Franz Joseph Technical Manual. Our design has been updated twice. but we stuck with key features that Mr. Joseph used in the book. I like to think that it means an enemy has a harder time sneaking up on us.. we have "eyes in the back of our head"!

    • @Donleecartoons
      @Donleecartoons 2 года назад +1

      My imperfect memory of the copy of the Technical Manual I had a looooong time ago makes me think Franz Joseph thought the big dishes were just sensors and not deflectors. At least I remember some notation on the Dreadnought page that was something like "Main Sensor F/A" (forward/aft).
      Of course, since every Trekkie and his/her targ knows it's a deflector, we can say: "When I say full reverse, I mean FULL reverse!"

    So Quincy is a Q. At least he has some morals unlike the one in TNG. And him despising temporal transport (time travel) endears him even more to me. Oh, he would probably not prevent a catastrophe but why should he? Maybe if said catastrophe would ensure extinction of the species. Other than that I wouldn't. That's like going back and preventing the space shuttle Challenger accident. Sure, you can save 7 people, but what about the 20 or 50 or 300 that die later on because we didn't learn a valuable lesson? And if any relatives or loved ones of the victims of the Challenger is reading this, I'm sorry for your loss. But your loved ones did not die in vain. They showed the road not to take and will likely prevent the deaths of many more sometime in the future.

      @dreadnoughtdominion8988  Год назад +1

      Thanks!
      Once we had the idea to have a “Q” be a crew member, the challenge was to resist the temptation to have him “magically “ solve every problem.
      If we had allowed that to happen, there would never be any danger. There would never be any doubt that every threat would be met by Quincy. That might be fun for an episode or two, but it would soon grow old.
      So we decided that Quincy would be there to study humanity. To see how they solve problems and threats with their frail, limited bodies and intellect.

    How is a deaf comm officer supposed to hear incoming hails ?

    • @gdavisohio
      @gdavisohio Год назад +1

      Take a look at "Silent Acknowledgement".. We explain that the Universal Translator can make the spoken word into sign for her to see. So she can pick up on voices behind her. Hails and regular "comm chatter" are like "chat rooms" .. their text scrolls on the side of her peripheral vision and light up if there is a one that demand attention. It'd be similar to how everyone with multiple monitors doing various tasks and a cell phone do business every day. I have three monitors, I have my email, my company website, my "Slack" chat room with various departments, and my phone sends texts to my screen. My browsers give me alerts which I can pull up or ignore. We just took this and modernized it for a deaf person in the 2rd Century..
