They rocked it out. Hear my thoughts that I should keep to myself. Not many reviews mention ‘water in the carb’ look for it #concertreview #doobiebrothers #review
I recently saw New Order and they did it right: big hit in the first couple songs, big hit in the middle of the set, close with three more big hits. You know what the audience is there for so give them enough to keep them into it.
I remember David reviewing a Bob Seeger show on SNL over 25 years ago, same complaint, playing the new songs and not the hits, and David said, "I wanted to throw Like a Rock at, like, his head." That instantly became my favorite music review joke of all time.
the bass player is john cowan. he was originally in the bluegrass band "newgrass revival". he has an INCREDIBLE voice... they should let him do more vocally.
Spadester - you are a bright spot in this dark world, my friend. Always have been. Best storyteller - ever. Way better than Myron Cohen. Remember that ol' dude? Now- we're old dudes!
One of the reasons I stopped going to (most) concerts is because that same guy (or his cousin) is always directly in front of me. I can look around an entire arena and everyone's seated except the 7 foot tall guy who's dancing like a maniac in between yelling out periodic woo hoos.
I personally get very rude ( native born New Yorker so it comes easy) and tell the man or woman to either move or sit down ( if directly in front of me) because I bought my ticket to see the performance, not their A** . Usually gets the point across.

I just love David so much. I had a friend natured like him with similar mannerisms who passed away about 17 years ago and everytime I see David it makes me feel like my friend is sort of still around. Of course David is awesome in his own right...just saying he makes me happy.
My daughter and I caught them in Sacramento a couple of weeks ago. Speaking of older people, there was a couple in front us that one or both apparently 'sharted' or worse with the last and best 30 minutes of that show, ruining it for everyone within the first 5 rows center stage. These folks tried to stick it out for the first 10 minutes of doing that deed, maybe thinking no one would notice but folks started catching on who it was. They left the last 30 minutes, but that horrible, toxic cloud lingered in our noses until we were out in the parking lot.
I was at the same show! David is exactly right. I said to my date: “Wow they are doing WAY too many new songs, this show could be like an hour shorter.” But it was still great hearing the classics! They closed strong with Listen To The Music though.
He did this so much better on Weekend Update back in the day. His advice to Larua Brannigan: Gloria, start with it, end with it, and play it a couple of times in between.
You have to bring “Lights Out” back! It was brilliant and so superior to the late night drivel that we’re stuck with now. The “Weekend Update” reunion episode is my favorite!
Jesus is just alright with me! Saw them in Sacramento, but my favorite memory is when Re-run tried to bootleg one of their concerts on a mono, tape recorder. What a lesson we learned that day. #Whatshappenin
The Doobies didn't play all new songs in the first hour: First song, "Nobody," a deep cut from 1971. "Take Me In Your Arms" was the second song. Then another deep cut, "Here To Love You" from 1978's "Minute By Minute" album. "Depending On You (4th)", "Rocking Down The Highway" (5th) and "You Belong To Me (6th)". What Doobie Brothers show at RUclips Theater was Spade at?
I saw them a few years ago in an outdoor arena in St. Louis. I still refer to it by its old name, I can't keep track either. Regardless, I had the best time I've ever had at a concert for some reason. I can't explain it. I'm sure they played a few newer songs, but it was mostly ones I knew. I don't even own a DB album. I love all kinds of music but most concerts I've been to lately are straight classic rock type bands.
Hmmm, I just saw them two months ago and did not have the same experience. I enjoyed the concert, tickets were only $55- great entertainment for the price. Love You David
I was happy when i saw Ozzy w/ Black Sabbath back in 2013. They had a new album out but they played only 3 songs from it. The rest was all old classics.
Here's the setlist he refers to: Intro - McDonald Improvisation Nobody - First song from first album, 1971. Reissued in 1974 #58 BILLBOARD. Setlist opener for several years now. Takin' It to the Streets - #13 BILLBOARD 1976 Listen To The Music - #11 BIILLBOARD 1972 Hardly a list of songs no one knows. It's pretty decent coverage of a 50 year career. "Real Love" has been removed from the setlist and replaced with "World Gone Crazy" since I saw them.
I certainly understand David's desire to have less new material and more classics. In NY this summer we did not get one of my all-time favorite Tom Johnston Doobie songs Another Park, Another Sunday. Lucky LA audience, hope you enjoyed that. With a classic band with a diverse 5 decade catalog, even if new material would not be played there could easily be 20 to 40 amazing songs that would not make the setlist. Every song was a new song on some tour, so live exposure to new songs is good . Many great bands fans have been down on new material when premiered live..New material that fans were down on has become many of their fans favorite albums. The Who Quadrophenia is one such album. Songs from Quadrophenia had a terrible live reception by The Who Fan base when first played live.. Within a short time many could never get enough, wanting the entire 2 LP album played live. Now if fans gave up on listening to new material The Doobie Brothers could have stopped playing new material after 1976 and we could still have many great songs left off the setlist. Now what if David's fans from his SNL days gave up on new material. Go take a long look at a very long successful career since SNL, what if hard-core fans of the SNL material could stay home and watch reruns in their home theater.
This led into an old Hollywood Minute where David was busting on the 90s while wearing a jacket with shoulder pads from the 80s. Hey Spade David Byrne called ...

Great man, great father, great comedian...I love this man ❤️🙏
Holy crap it’s great to hear from a legend.
I love hearing David’s assistant laugh…oh and David is funny too
I actually don’t like it. It makes me think that as long as David Spade has a cute assistant, who laughs at his jokes, he’ll never get married.
I love you and you need to do more! Miss you dude.

Bad case of the new songs 😂 this was hilarious love the Doobie bros but it's great to poke fun 😁 3 Minute Miracle for two and a half hours 😂
Spade doesn’t get it. The new album is very good and if you look back at the catalog, many of the deep cuts are much better than the hits.
