That's just an ancient, hollywood-veneered turd of a formula that distracts from the reason we were all there. SPADE himself. This feels like something pre/early-internet performers are all having trouble grasping. In the past, it was not a good thing to come across as "cheap" and "lacking production", and to get personal was "unprofessional". These days, the less "professional" and "polished" or "produced" your product is, the more people seem to appreciate it. Spade is positioned to create something truly new in comedy entertainment if he can get the right team around him. Watching a few famous people talk about their weird Hollywood-bullshit lives without the filter (or preparation of a script or a makeup team or fashion consultant) is truly the new media right now, which is why podcasts are so popular. Breaking down the barrier between what's presented and what is real--this is what is driving views and entertainment. Spade in particular would be great for a casual-format series, because his entire delivery style is basically 'casually sarcastic'...and he is still grounded enough as a person to not get too caught up in sniffing farts the way a lot of famous Hollywood podcasters do. He has real-people cred because he has enough self-awareness to at least recognize smarmy icky stuff when he sees it, and he has a foot in both the pre- and post- internet audience. I'd love to see him return to a regular late-night series of some kind, but I really doubt it would do any better than before if kept following the same tired formula. Being self-aware and sarcastic is Spade's whole appeal. The more polished and performed it becomes peels away at the entire reason we enjoy him as a funny person. The non-ologues are great example of this in comparison to his scripted show-openers.

You need a show like Carson had. The show you did was very entertaining yet even the largest of life rafts can not float a sinking ship. Not your fault. Give it a real, genuine go at it. I'd suggest across multiple platforms? Like at least something where guests regularly stop by and you chat with them. Put on up and coming comics and music acts. Just start doing it. Film it and stream it live. Then you own the physical and can re-platform if necessary. If you've seen the web show that Norm did, you did an episode but have you watched it? Do you agree the world needed that show, no matter what the form and no matter what the audience size was? Do a show for the sake of doing a great show. You're already a living comedy legend. You've lived a lifestyle of fame for decades and you wear it well. You probably could text just about anybody and they'd be a guest. Interview who and how you want to but I think this is needed right now more than ever. Fun and laughs just because it's fun and laughs.
