In a conversation with Ultimate Classic Rock, Sammy Hagar talked about his time working with Van Halen.
The singer revealed that his bandmates Alex Van Halen and the late Eddie Van Halen were sick of playing the band's songs from the David Lee Roth era.
After revealing that he wouldn’t sing a song just because it was a hit and fans liked it, Hagar explained what he meant to do when he first joined the band:
“Well, when I joined Van Halen, I was trying to make a statement. Hey, listen, this is a new band, we wrote new material - and to get rid of that comparison thing, I didn’t want to… look, it wasn’t just me.”

Does Hagar ever shut up. He has a pathetic need to be constantly in the spotlight!! For the most part, DLR does not trash Hagar in public and he does not talk about Van Halen no matter if it was the period he was in VH or not. DLR did have an issue with Wolfgang earlier this year that he made public. But he stated his problem and moved on. Most people say Diamond David loves only Diamond David. To a certain extent that is true. But like EVH and AVH, he keeps his thoughts, feelings, etc about Van Halen in a vault!
