I was lucky to grow up with the greatest music ever!! 60's and 70's
Your reaction to Marvin Gaye is appropriate. He leaves us speechless. Marvin preaches!
Love Love Love this song and Marvin Gaye. We old schooler's also feel we grew up with the best music ever !
We sure did.
Marvin Gaye was part of early Motown in the 1960's. He had a lot of great songs such as "Ain't That Peculiar", "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)", "I Heard It Through The Grapevine", "Let's Get It On", "Mercy, Mercy Me" etc. Gaye also recorded quite a few duets with Mary Wells ("Once Upon A Time" & 'What's The Matter With You Baby"), Kim Weston ("It Takes Two"), Tammi Terrell ("Ain't No Mountain High Enough", "Your Precious Love", "Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing" & "You're All I Need To Get By").
This song was relevant then and unfortunately relevant still today 😥🤨✌️
Marvin was a genius. He had to go against Berry Gordy who didn’t want him to record this. He thought it was too controversial. Luckily Marvin won out and did it the way he wanted. He has the unbelievable Funk Brothers as his musicians in this, including the GREAT James Jameson on bass. This recording is monumental and the lyrics are relevant even today, 50+ years later. Thank you so much for reacting to this. It has often been mentioned as one of the greatest songs ever. 👏👏👍❤️
Music should make you feel. Just human interaction joy, pain, confusion, confidence, sorrow, seduction whatever it’s a medium for human interaction . This is gorgeous but the album version is a masterpiece. The disconnection people feel these days doesn’t surprise me at all. We don’t have as many options to experience music, as we used to have. Our young should be able to gather around music and safely commune together with dance and song. ☮️
Marvin tells the TRUTH .❤️
Only Marvin makes me smile and cry at the same time. This is a natural human response to pure beauty. Marvin is sublime. His magic accompanies me every day.
I really enjoy the commentary that you bring to your reactions. Been going through your catalog and it’s really diverse and interesting. Many thanks.
Thanks Sally lol
Ain't nobody like this man❤. I was born in 69 so I grew up to his music. His voice is so pure and soulfoul ❤❤
I make you wanta hella, and throwing up both of my hands. Honor to Nr. Marvin Gaye, his music will live FOREVER,❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤.
It's an , awakening. It's Spiritual. Food for the soul.Whats going on,is really Gospel. Amen ❤
It's simply music. Great music. Without it, who knows where the world is heading?
One of the best things on the internet...I'll never forget hearing of his passing on the radio just blew my mind, always the smoothest cat out there in the day.
Lord, May we All live in Peace and Love as examples of Your Great Creation in spite of Mankind's obsession with Blindness and Hate.
Love is neither Blind or Ignorant.
Amen.
that's why I'm so glad I grew up in the 70's I think it was the best decade of music....I loved Marvin growing up and listening to him on the radio. My dad was not always happy about it, but it was a different time back then. I always am kind of sad listening back to some of the music I thought for sure would bring about social justice...I was so hopeful, but we haven't come as far as we should of and could of. I often wonder if the tragic deaths of so many musicians discourage people instead of inspiring them.
Listen to his WHOLE catalog starting in the 60's...AMAZING.
Fantastic reaction, I first heard this 33 years ago and it still touches something deep inside. Marvin Gaye also had a uniquely brilliant voice to deliver his thought provoking messages. Such a talented man ....
The album What's Going On is currently number one on Rolling Stone Magazines list of 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. He was WAY before his time.
The WHOLE What’s Goin On album has to be listened from beginning to end to to really hear Marvin’s magic & his messages ❤️🔥 The piano & drums keep your heart Goin On !Marvin singing live is fantastic thanks for reacting to this incredible LIVE performance! I’ll listen to Marvin anytime day or night, have loved him since his days singing with Tammy Terrell in the’60’s. Thanks for making my day, I’ll be playing his music all day now 💋❤️🔥💜☮️
*my fav album of ALL time & my heart is still broken over losing Marvin so senseless to be murdered by his dad 💔 Thank the heavens for all of Marvin’s music, it is timeless 💝
Master and Masterpiece..
witness one of the best bass players that ever graced this planet (if not the best) - James Jamerson
Honey Marvin makes me cry every day! And literally since I was 10 years old, I am now 63! 😂😂😂🥹🥹🥹
Totally loved his music. This song is one of my ALLTIME favorites. Thank You Marvin Gaye
Love Marvin! ❤
The musician playing the Bongos was on fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
What a voice, what lyrics, this song totally nailed what was going on
One of the best live music videos I’ve ever seen, and of course Marvin is a legend
You want to hear the most phenomenal, soulful version of the National Anthem, check out Marvin's version of the National Anthem at the 1983 NBA All-Star game. Marvin was smoother than whip cream with his shades and suit. You didn't know whether to put your hand over your heart or grab your partner for a slow dance.
A voice that could melt butter.
Yes, what a deep beautiful song. And still timely. 😢
Love your reaction. This song is so moving and still, unfortunately, relevant today (it’s probably what makes it such great art).
I was privileged enough to see Marvin Gaye in the UK in 1976 and 1983 and he was simply a different class to anyone else. My absolute all time favourite and have " God is Love from the What's Going On Album booked in as my funeral tune. Have you ever heard Billy Paul " I want cha baby " the Sax is off the scale! Loving you love for Angelina Jordan , Ren and now Marvin!!!
One of my funeral tunes too. I'm not a Christian, but the love and religiosity in it is overwhelming. Peace, brother.
Definately sets a penseful mood. And, you're so right about the industry tamping down powerful, meaningful music.
Motown at it best Marvin Gaye was called the Prince of Motown What's going on release 1972
Yep, 51 years. I was born that year... it was a great one LOL 😝
Love the extended version of "Funk Me." Honestly, I love most of Marvin's stuff and think he's the best singer all time.
Loving the Marvin reactions. He's so powerful. From roughly the same era, Isaac Hayes Walk on By, long version, is one you should try. It doesn't have the political and cultural statements, but the vibe and groove are so good.
Marvin was a spiritual man this song makes me cry
Did you mean Nina Simone? * Marvin spoke this societies history back then truthfully. No song can replace this✌️
This song means more now than ever! What the hell is going on!
Yes what the HELL is going on in this world we live in!! Seems we goin backwards!!
SO good to hear this again! Thanks
Nothing like real musicians and instruments brother 😊
The greatest of all times
I do agree with your comments!!!
CLASSIC!
peace
Nina Simone....and this is a timeless masterpiece that can never be diminished by time.
Brilliant live version.
That's real music brother
Excellence, yes very melancholy. I grew up during this time. Just beautiful. Again as you said Sir, this is what music is supposed to be. I grew up in the 60's and 70's oh my we were so blessed to experience this beautiful, insightful music that brought us closer to each other. ❤️
HE'S IMPROVISING LIVE ;)
I believe he did all the sing and also, look into the writing of this song.
We Here Bro
Not like you need any help, just love what you're doing
True talent is better live.
Nina Simone is who you’re thinking about.
THIS SONG IS HARD TO PLAY LIVE HE DID IT FLAWLESSLY.
Teddy Swims did a pretty good cover of this song. Worth a listen.
Try listening to Gil Scott Heron. “The revolution will not be televised” or “Johanesburg” which is about Apartheid in South Africa
If you haven't already, do yourself a favor and listen to the What's Going On Album from beginning to end in one sitting. It will blow your mind.
Hey, throwing it out there. I'm 1/2 a generation older than you. Send me a few songs to react to. What moves you b/c I"ve been listenting to Marvin Gaye since I don't know when... And thanks - it's awesome to be reminded of the power of his work.
I cry when he sings “ father father we don’t need to escalate” knowing his dad killed him. 😢
Love you mugsy let me know how I can help you out
Have you heard Marvin Gaye's version of the national anthem?
Now you as a young podcaster commentator on what have you you can spread the word to your young men and women that speak your language you should be able to turn them into voters show them this clip let them hear the words not listen to the words but hear the words and if it was back then happening it's worse now so let them know that we need them both get out there you help spread the word this here is a message to be able to spread the word that we need the young people help in voting this year
Beautiful brother. This old world needs more caring, less pain and misery, less division, more togetherness and happiness. It's a state of mind. About character not color. Hope, peace and love.
Please listen to thundercat fair chance
He was murdered by his own father if i remember correctly. Over money💔
Makes me sick to this day! Him and Sam Cooke. 😢
@@TheDivayenta 💔💔💔
Sadly, he was then murdered by his father.😢😇
This was a anti Vietnam War song...
That was the year I was born, and it was a mess
I wish the Democrat party would embrace love over hate like they used to. Only love can conquer hate
I grew up in the streets of north St. Louis mo. On listening to Motown. It was Marvin and others music that caused me to see the world as I do. Back in the day. Alittle bud and some good music like this. Man o man. That was the shit. I’m much older now. No bud these days. But I’m still paying attention and jamming to this. Still we want to know what is going on. Thanks Marvin for your insight that you allowed us to see the vision you had. Rip my brother. You are still having a very big impact. On what we see in our world.
