"Minimal viable product is what you call a AAA game"
Yup, that's it.
See this is why we need AAAA games.
Stopped buying 60$ games that needed day one patches just to work. Started buying 4$ steam games that work on install + can be played offline.
I dont even think its this "young developer ego" Asmon mentioned, its just laziness for creating an MVP (funny acronym...)
@@radiantcat540 No we need AAAAAAAAAA+++ Games.
No, we need SSS+ Games.
Diablo 4 was made purely made just so Activision-Blizzard would look more valuable when being acquired by Microsoft. How did Diablo 4 have thousands of people working on it?
The hardest reality those age 25-45 face is Blizzard doesn't have any of the original devs. They all left or moved on. The fact is we want games from the old team, which is gone. Blizzard is dead.
the bit about how new devs don't want to borrow good ideas and always come with their own, to make some kind of mark... I don't think this is the case at all. I think that it happens because new devs are being hired with specific graduations for game development. and in these graduations, they are being actively taught to NOT be creative and that there is a correct way of developing mechanics and other stuff, and a wrong way. I got this feeling when elden ring flipped the AAA industry upside down. a LOT of devs from the ubisofts and activisions were very critical of the game and pointed out how the game "failed" in basic game development standards. it wasn't just about ego, these people really believed that infantilising and holding the player's hand all the time is the "correct" way of developing games, and force feeding them useless, excessive information is just the standard. they have been taught this way, it seems. which shows that these graduations are based on cold, statistics and psychology-based theories on how to develop games to maximise retention and spending. and a lot of people are taking these graduations simply because the gaming industry has become an absolute behemoth with repectable career opportunities. in other words, enough time has passed that people are actually being born and becoming adults on a society that considers gaming as a standard way of entertainment, just like cinema or television. they are raised with games being just another product. and I think these people are becoming the standard devs in the triple A industry. that's why games are so bizarrely souless. with other games, it's obvious that they are just the result of devs being underpaid and overworked, and the direction being decided by tone deaf executives. but d4 appears to have been developed with some liberty, but by devs that has dogmatic views and no love for what they do. it doesn't feel like just a work of greed, but also a work of mediocrity. the biggest demonstration of that was that bit were two devs played the game and they were absolutely terrible. it showed that they simply don't care, it's just a job for them.
@@gustavogoesgomes1863 bro the devs are diversity hires that dont even play games
Diablo4 basically spent 90% on art 10% on gaming mechanics
Not even close. 10% art 5% gameplay 85% advertising. You see Diablo 4 on every game store around on the front page.
Well PoE 2 is the same. Chris has stated that over half the PoE 2 deva are artists.
Yes, I feel like the only thing Diablo 4 has over games like Poe, is that it’s “newer” so the art direction is better or more current. I still find myself picking Poe when I start my ps5 though
Yea but poe 2 will have all gameplay from poe 1@@Lazris59
Bliz still has amazing artists unfortunately their systems/design teams do not have a bloody clue!
I just bought last EPOCH, 35 dollars total, no pay for new expansions. 100 tabs, and a loot filter and drop filter
Enjoy man. Last Epoch is amazing... it literally started as a Reddit post and its come so far. Cant say enough about LE. It will be fun to ping pong between LE and POE seasons.
No, dude, max tabs in LE is 200.
LE is becoming very good, also consider grim dawn whenever you want to take a break from it.
It's funny to think of how trash d4 is when the ARPG market actually has a number of good options in it, I wonder if corporate will blame the genre instead of the product in hindsight lol
Last epoch is absolute trash.
I had a ton of fun with Grim Dawn@@TheArnoldification
What's insane is how many players D3 drove to PoE and now how many D4 drives to PoE2. Blizz is the best marketing tool for PoE ever devised.
got any numbers on that hot take?
its just not true. poe's latest season hasn't even reached close to all time player peak. EVENTHO it's one of the best seasons poe has ever seen imo.@@lexscarlet

The in-game real money auction house was a genius move by blizzard in a way. They got to see exactly how much people would pay for items without being the ones who set the price...
And 1USD from every purchase
I made good money off that auction house. I was sad when they took it out because there was literally nothing else I enjoyed about the game lol
@@S2pidMedia I regretted not putting enough thought/care into the RMAH. I did it enough to make my money back for the game and then some, but looking back.. man, I had the time and ability to really milk it and chose not to for some reason lol
@@brandonmakridis1565 I hear you. I got lucky with some drops that I was able to sell for max, but I knew some guys who just weren't lucky as well.
I used to sell D2 items on PayPal, and the D3 auction house was basically an insurance policy on charge backs, so it was pretty wonderful to not have to worry about that.
Sorry you missed out on some of the fun.
Back then it was hard to understand since it was a new thing. I remember buying D3 while I was in the Army, never really understood the point of RMAH back then but now I'm kicking myself just like you. Now that’s diabolic
@@2tuam makes sense, lol
D4 might not be wanting competing against POE2 and LE, but it WILL be compared to them and seen as competition. They exist in the same space, so whether they want to or not, they will be.
They dont want the competition because they know they cant, the game is mediocre.
@@stuka80 being mediocre is worst off than being bad. Being bad mean you tried, mediocre means you played it safe.
@@bobbob-vw4cc Not true. You can try really hard and be mediocre. You can also not try at all and be bad.
What Asmon is trying to say is that while ofc it will be compared to poe2/Le by many, blizzard is just trying to milk older fans/playerbase that just doesnt really care and follows habit at the end of the day.
I personally think D4 is trying to monopolize the arpg space area by scheduling all their big events side by side, near, or a few weeks/days earlier than PoE and LE announcement about their games. Like a lot of this is happening. I don't want to point everything but this started when exilecon 2 schedule announcement was announced.
But do they realize that they are not winning? D4 trying to force it and it becomes quantity over quality and pretty sure players want quality.
They really tried and want to compete but they can't catch up.
The whales must unite and take down Blizzard before they destroy themselves

Why whales though ? Why not chickens ? Scared of getting involved ?
You want to see whales think? Yeah good luck 😂
They are whales, they dont care, they have the money to throw at anything, they dont give a shit
Camera zoom in D4 makes me (and many others I've noticed) literally physically sick and that's not exaggeration.
How did they fail with something so basic and fundamental to the experience? It's unbelievable.
It's not even that they failed. It was easy to fix. And the community as a whole wanted it. They just didn't want to do it. And the motive is probably some marketing bs, so that you see the merch.
It's actually the reason I never made it past level 30ish, I just couldn't stand not having a better field of vission so I can actually use skill to dodge oneshots.
They zoomed the camera in without changing hitboxes/detection window. Thats why you can hit things off screen and also be hit off screen. Purely speculation based on my observations but thats what I think happened.
iam a diablo dad. i loved diablo and d2... but i stopped with d3. and d4... i didnt even tried it.
Same
same. i still play d2r
Good for you
My friends dragged me into it...
And the experience wasnt good.
3 is amazing, would definetly give it a try....4 on the other hand I would wait to play on gamepass
Interesting that GGG can add a new endgame to PoE every 3 months and sometimes even refactor the endgame completely. However, a company as large as Blizzard cannot even improve the endgame content even a little bit after half a year.
They're still working on the game and not really prepared to release new content. The ideas of every season is so generic that it doesn't blow anyone's minds.
They have the act bosses and can't even include it in the end game or make it the seasonal theme.
They don’t have the technology bro
Feels strange how quickly I got over D4. So stoked for PoE2.
Same, I stopped playing before season 1. I'll be giving poe 2 a shot, though I think I will miss the crackhead speeds of 1. We'll see how it turns out though
I played for about 10 hours and just quit in disgust. Even D3 seems more fun in comparison
well most people play D4 a single player game where you finish the campaign then stop playing and by most people i mean casual players. Not many people play who plays D4 plays it for the end game grinding which is partly why it is so successful.
@@CL-jq1xsto be fair the campaing was great, everything after was just boring AF, itemization was bad, farming the same damn dungeon to optimize artificial progression that on fact made you feel weaker with each level was just unrewarding grind, I felt like i dished out 100$ for a second job that doesn't pay back.
I remember when people said you couldnt buy power in lost ark but just like immortal you could buy currency and therefore buy power
AAA is now the "military grade" of gaming. A label that marketing tries to use to indicate quality, but actually just means something created in the most cost effective way regardless of quality.
at this point, D2R entered maintenance mode and is still and will always be better than any new updates for D4
D2r ws the best thing that ever happened, in the video game space, to me lol. I played d2 since I was fuckin 10 when it came out. Every ladder reset since then. Then they just did something I never expected....fuckin revamped graphics and re-released. I was so pumped. Playing it daily since it released

Weekly dose of D4 vs PoE video. FeelsGoodMan
PoE doesn't need help being successful. The game speaks for itself.
Diablo 4 is 8 months old and has had nothing but failure after failure. How long are people going to hold out hope for this game?
PoE2 Beta is going to be treated as a full game release by GGG according to Jonathan in a recent interview, then the end of Beta into 1.0 will happen pretty much immediately with no delay...
D4 is on a timer lmao.
The fact that voting with your wallet works has been shown recently with what has happened to Creative Assembly. They got so much backlash and lack of sales on a Total War Warhammer 3 DLC and Total War Pharaoh that they refunded the price difference of deluxe and base editions of Pharaoh and are releasing what would have effectively been the next paid DLC for Warhammer 3 for free. Of course in this case it worked cause Creative Assembly makes such a hyper niche product with a very devoted small audience, but they felt it in their wallets immediately when no one bought anything.
"They delayed the release of leaderboards from Feb 13 to Feb 20"
They need to optimize loading stash tabs of all the players on the leaderboard when you enter the town.
For D3 in my opinion the RMAH was never a real problem for the players, the system of the game itself was.
The problem with the RMAH was more on Blizzards side, since it was used way more than they anticipated, which required a lot of server usage and accounting + some legal problems, since the model counted as running a bank, which is heavy regulated. Especially anti-money-laundering laws they had to follow.
Which was the reason the RMAH got closed and not that the players didn't like it.
Games in the late 90s were the best.
lol
Between 5:53 - 6:58 was Perfect! 🤣
Boasting about making money in D3 while watching a video that would call you out about it 30 seconds later, priceless...
Minimum Viable Product is what most businesses pay other businesses for their services. That shit sucks in software projects
Last Epoch also. It's actually insane how a AAA can fumble so hard.
I'm so done with D4. I have a lvl 100 druid ran 20 beast in ice for the unsung wraps and they never dropped. That's 180 vault runs to be able to do 20 beast in ice to be able to play the lightning druid I want to play and they haven't dropped yet. I'm going back to LE, it's bullshit that I can't play the toon I want without grinding forever to hope rng drops the 1 item I need.
It ain't any better in LE when it comes to grinding build enabling uniques, still a bullshit boring grind

My friend and I started playing path of exile we don’t even touch Diablo 4 anymore
Everyone is so up in arms about D4. Yet everyone bought it and played it, many - pre-launch. Wtf? Can't people put their money where their mouth is? It's not that difficult, honestly.
Imagine being asmongold at 2022 and saying "dude game looks amazing I love it holy shit thats crazy"
he wouldn’t say it’s not a good game until a month after it came out too
@@Terminator-ht3sx"people are just hating it to hate it"
no they don't hate it, they just expect it to be shit because thats all blizzard doing for last few years :D
Blizzard is still pretty good at making badass pre-rendered cutscenes and good marketing. Also, asmon does sometimes take awhile to review games. Tbf tho, we probably should've expected this after D3
Dont forget Titan Quest 2 is coming out too, one of the OG's
Poe is honestly such a master piece. Theres so much to do and soooo MANY viable builds you can do crazy things with. Its just fun messing around with gems you can mess with
I liked the Starcraft campaign and story, I played WoW last when Deathwing was a thing, Overwatch I dropped like a bad habit, I wasn't impressed with D3, and I won't buy D4.
Looks like I'm done with Blizzard, actually. Can't think of anything of theirs I want to play.
"Ahhh Shit. Here we go again."
Unpopular opinion but the hype behind PoE2 is gonna kill it. Everyone has so much expectations(me included) for it that it sets an impossible standard. Doing better than D4 from modern day blizzard? the bar is pretty low if you ask me. PoE1 is better than D4... ofc PoE2 is gonna kill D4.
A Minimal Viable Product is SUPPOSED to be a functional prototype that you provide to a customer for a business application so that they can get value earlier in the development process. It is intended to be iterated upon and eventually completed by the end of development. An MVP in a game context is basically Early Access. But nowadays we are seeing the MVP released as the final product and never see what should have been the completed product.
One thing no one is bringing up about LE is the server stability. It takes forever sometimes to load into town or a place on the map and when it gets a 10-20x influx of people I feel it’s going to be really bad.
Agreed, the true test is always launch, like you said stability is already hit and miss and that many ppl is going to be wolcen all over again, just not ready for so many new players.
5:55 The call out. He got played by a pre recorded video
I don't think the auction house had much at all to do with d3's failure and I hate that people keep blaming it. The game didn't get any better upon its removal. Everyone just blamed it because everyone hates RMT, but at least this RMT benefitted the better players. It didn't help that they took forever to implement seasons which caused the AH to stagnate hard not to mention seasons being integral to any ARPG.
AAA = AlphaAlphaAlpha Game
Nah those A's are the agonizing scream of dying game
Guys please stop comparing diablo and path of exile....let diablo player have their world an fun
When you try to make something to satisfy everyone, you satisfied no one.
Come on now, don't be naive. You can't say that Grinding Gear are against real money trading, that's childish to think it. They are against it cause it wasn't popular in D3. If it had became a huge hit in D3, EVERYONE would use it, even Grinding Gear. There isn't a publisher on the planet who hates money.
D4 is much more competitive against minecraft dungeons. 👌
I never really played because I kind of have a life and a job but my brother who doesn't said what I asked if he was playing Diablo said "Path of Exiles, basically a much better Diablo."
This is the reason diablo 2 was the last blizzard game I played.
Last Epoch already made all ARPGs obsolete. If POE 2 doesn't take notes and evolve the genre it will be dead on arrival. That said I do think (or at least hope) that POE 2 will do exactly that, but I am not going to let my expectations get out of control based on some nice looking trailers. We made that mistake with D4.
POE 2 going to be Amazing
Blizzards marketing, far and away, is what's kept them afloat. We've had at least 10 years of failure after failure but somehow they manage to create enough hype that everyone tries their new game anyway. Even Diablo 4 I keep hearing "they're listening for season X and that's a good thing!!". They aren't listening and it's not good.
None of that is going to change while the marketing team drives the hype train to record sales.
I didn't know POE had a battle pass until now
It's not that spectacular, but once in a while I buy it to support the game as it is free.
All it does it give a few microtransactions and some very minor in game items. It's good for the price
@@rcola5 I'm actually surprised about how little it is promoted. I play every now and then especially when a new league launches and I have never seen the battle pass.
@@firminvernege9815 Iirc you can also only reclaim it after finishing the campaign.
So it'll possibly never show up for new players that didn't leave act 1 up till act 10.
Basically you can only claim it's rewards when you reach mapping
Actually it's a full set. Sometimes it can be very nice @@rcola5
The problem with these huge corporations is that once the games are already great marketing is necessary to reach a bigger userbase and those teams get more say and become more important to the company than the people making the games. This throws off the dynamic to where the developers are listened to less about things and it really kills their drive to make better games as marketing makes promises that they have to deliver on/they get pushed more into delivering products they aren't even proud of and you get those crazy devs on twitter coping by lying to themselves and everyone else about how great their shit games are.
I no longer give Blizzard money. SOD was so low value, I'm out. D4 was so little value, I'm out.
Actually surprised you didn't know about gauntlet delay but it's rather impressive they managed to delay the only reason people even want to play D4 atm
Nobody talks about kirac's vault or stash tabs, because ggg doesn't shove thel in your face. You only see the battle pass in por once you beat the base game. And you don't rly need stash tabs untill neck deep in maps.
Essentially, poe is a free game. The first 10 acts never ask or show you how to buy anything. Its only once you beat it and you decide to commit that you get the options to buy and at that point, most people feel meer than okay to buy a supporter pack.
one advantage to having very few stash tabs, is it teaches you not to hoard items and filter as strict as you can, which is the most profitable way to play. playing with 4 tabs is pretty difficult though. I would like to see them give 1 premium tab for 40 challenges every league, so f2p players that love the game, but are unable to pay, can at least ease that restriction a bit.
D4 I think needs to revamp classes and skills.
Barbarian needs fury system that isn't generate and dump but towards the more fury you have your skills gain certain other effects. All abilities generate fury but when you hit max fury you gain passive damage and/or all skills gain other effects for x seconds and then fury resets.
Ex: Hammer of the Ancients at x or max fury does a almost screen wide aoe slam that hits harder.
Generator/spender gameplay is the worst trash to happen to ARPG's. Ever since D3, Blizzard has been trying to make World of Diablocraft a thing.
When the drama is most fun than the game itself...
Why would we want to see any of these games fail? That’s a shitty prospective. I enjoy all of these games for different reasons. I don’t want to see any of them fail.
I worked at a game dev company in the early 2010s as they began shifting over from console and PC dev to mobile gaming, and MVP(Minimum Viable Product) was a term I was beginning to hear there rather frequently. That's when I knew mobile gaming wasn't for me and I got a job elsewhere. I can't imagine being a leader of a company and feeling like anything but crap if that was a term I was championing.
The guy that told the truth about the stash tabs is the only guy i think cares about the game
Even this video doesn't accurately recount the events of d3. It didn't lose masses of players due to the rwt, it lost players because of its shallow game design. Player choice took a backseat to cartoonist graphics and ease of access
When you are adult, it's more like you are already don't have enough time but also don't have enough money...
The RMAH was literally the only exciting thing about D3. I was hyped when they released it. The game kinda died for me once it got removed. It's a shame honestly, D3 could've taken the top spot in the world if they kept on that path.
d4 is just call of duty now
I only ever made about $11.13 total on the D3 RMAH. It was such a pain in the ass to farm epics at the time that I just preferred working at my job.
Has Blizzard even addressed any of the twitter exposes that keep rolling out about how insane and dishonest their company is to employees from middle management to HR? I don't think the employees are unwilling to create on a solid foundation in hope of clout. It seems like they're barely surviving and most of the things they do are scrapped to make room for money grabs.
That is seriously some of the coolest game footage I've ever seen in my life... I wasn't even planning on getting the game and now I definitely am
Last Epoch and PoE2 are the future of aRPGs. Diablo as a franchise is very likely deceased now.
POE2 is but players will end up disappointed with Epoch especially when they get to the endgame.
@@memoman29 I play both and not sure what you mean by Epoch’s disappointing endgame. It’s not as deep or complex as PoE, but that’s a positive for many people. Further, Epoch’s endgame will only grow from release moving forward.
@@memoman29 Why is everything about 'Endgame'? I still have yet to experience POE's endgame. I still play the heck out of POE and LE. Just creating characters with different build varieties is what I enjoy about ARPGs
Couldn't be more excited for PoE 2. It is kinda crazy how many D4 refugees are now enjoying PoE. It's pretty cool to see.
Guy in the video looks exactly like Alex Honnold the rock climber, uncanny resemblance.
lol ya every pause the thought crosses my mind
Blizzard is not playing the same game as PoE2 or Last Epoch... They care about printing money, and the Diablo franchise does that way better than the other two games put together. Blizzard sold out the hardcore gamer long ago for what could essentially be described as the mobile market, and it doesn't really matter how many of these vids people make, Blizz won't improve the product, and it will continue to make more money than it's competitors.
Diablow.
we need to stop giving blizzard a platform over and over and over again. Stop sensationalising and dramatising the fall of a once great champion, when he is only a crippled and pitiful shadow of himself and filling his pockets with money by allowing him to get back into the ring despite of the expected humilation.
There is a differnce in celebrating legends of the past in a symbolic way and THIS.
D4 really lives rent free in peoples head lmao.
It's not rent free, it's 100 dollars gone in there
i did like 5 poe leages, reached tier 10+ maps each time, and enjoyed the new mechanisms. Now i bought a steam deck from my csgo skins i bought in 2014 for penneis and like diablo 4 on this device. Just finished the campaign. I loved dio 3 as well, hopefully at some point the studio finds its identity (even though its true identity is to pay hefty bonuses to the management, and hefty dividends to the parent company/shareholders)
The thing I’m thankful for about Diablo 4 is that I found PoE searching for an alternate game to play.
If you've been following Blizzard at all over the years, none of this is surprising

-Isn't made on a lower budget with a lack of polish when it comes to things like animations (Last Epoch)

It's what it needs! Another game to show fanboys of Diablo 4 what a mess it is.
Blizzard as a company is just completely unable to adapt to the change in the playerbases needs and it also seems like they dont even want to try to match it or figure out how to thrive when you can just do the same shit and still get a fuckton of money. viable option ig but its pretty dumb if only people in power could realize that they suck at their job now

Isn't the "minimum viable product" just an intentional mechanism in capitalism? Thats free markets whole point. Maximize value, minimize cost. Games used to be made and studios owned by idealists. Often quite anticapitalistic people. People who thought that money and market shouldnt be a factor when it comes to art. Now its mainstream, now things are owned by business majors, capitalists who dont share those ideals. And even software devs today are no longer idealist nerds, they are now techbros who used to go to business school but are now becoming scrum masters and product owners instead. Isn't this all intentional. This is what we as free market capitalist society aim towards. This is what we want.
GGG is going to end up having a monopoly over the entire ARPG genre.
