- This small 550mm long N scale 'model railway' demonstrates that we all have space for trains in our home. Built to sit on an IKEA Mosslanda (55cm long, 12cm deep) 'book' shelf it depicts the Dyfi estuary, inspired by photos and personal experience of Ynyslas.

It is interesting to see the micro layout as a way to a larger project. As I get older - it’s my 73rd birthday today - I am thinking of smaller projects as an end in themselves.
With considerations about time, the use of materials and space (what to do with layouts when the inevitable downsizing comes?) such mini projects seem increasingly attractive.
Thanks Maurice, good luck with whatever comes next for you!
Super N gauge scenic modelling in a small space. Very clear explanations of the reasoning behind the models and the techniques used. Very sharp pictures and a tripod is used (Thank you!). Great video and I'm currently enjoying others from this modeller - James Hilton.
Thank you Michael. I do worry my videos are too much of me talking but never the less, you all seem to enjoy them. I’m glad you are enjoying the back catalogue!
i have only just discovered your channel and have subscribed very good and have started watching other things looks amazing.
Thank you Brian - I hope you enjoy it, I don't put stuff up every week but I hope what I do prepare is worth sitting down with a coffee and watching.
there is better content on ones that are not every week
This conveys a lovely atmosphere which is one of the most important things of a layout IMO.
Thank you Justin. As a 'test' it was both enjoyable to create and rewarding and encouraging for the work that will follow. The atmosphere was important, even in this smaller cropped size, and it worked well, and has shown me what will work in the larger layout footprint.
Amazing work i did find your Chanel some time ago and Keep coming back
Thanks Lars, perhaps this time not the most interesting of videos, more to follow. If you haven’t, please consider visiting my blog, updated daily. Http://Paxton-Road.blogspot.co.uk

I realy like your litle 6,5 gauge buch layout
Im working on a similar one in ho9
Thanks Lars, updated daily.
I'm very happy to see another video from you, James. This cameo/diorama is lovely, especially the bridge, the water and the distinction between embankment and marshy land. I really can't wait to see the larger version that this inspired. Nice reminder on the benefit of using jigs as well. Cheers
PS I was wondering if you had Gurney's 'Color & Light' in your collection, but judging by the back scene, I guess you do
James - thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Hi James, Great video - I've just been watching a few of your videos and tried ordering your book but it seems to be sold out. Do you know who has stock?
I’m afraid not, although I know it has sold out at the publisher too! Book 2 in hand and I want to publish that before we do a reprint of book 1.
@@JamesHiltonCustomModelRailways Disappointed that I can’t find Book 1 either. Seems like an awfully short production run🤷🏻♂️
Not a short run at all. Just an incredibly popular book, for which I’m incredibly grateful!
Well deserved. The best layouts always have there own lighting built in I've noticed. That's something I've never done but must learn. Is that something you cover in your books or is it something you could do a video on?
@@BrockwellLanemodelrailway lighting, it’s covered as necessary with an idea on how I do it in the book, but the book is more about finding a home and matching the space to a prototype, scale and viewing height.
I will do a short video on lighting.
