- In this video I talk at length about my passion for Paxton Road, my N gauge cameo layout, it's connection to both friendship and childhood as well as encouraging you all to enjoy a 'train set' in your own home.

A real inspiration. Thanks.
Thank you James, that’s very kind.
Thanks so much for sharing this.
I’m glad to have been able to, it felt good to make it!
You’re totally inspirational and your passion comes through, another fantastic layout 👍🏻
Thank you Phil, that is very kind - I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos
Said it before very very inspiering
Thank you!
this is so relaxing to watch! its so simple yet so appealing; you are of course absolutely right that this hobby is a gift to those of us interested in railways.
Tom, that is so incredibly kind. I put a lot of me in everything I do, and it leaves you vulnerable. To hear such warm words is a real balm.
Love your videos. I am planning a micro 009 layout with a steel mill theme, but based in the modern era. It's an unusual subject, but I am really enjoying the challenge of scratch building and collecting stock and engines ready for it.
Sounds a great project! I considered one years ago - but in Eastern Europe… paxton-road.blogspot.com/2012/12/inspiration-for-009-micro-steel-mill.html
@@JamesHiltonCustomModelRailways Great thanks for the link 👍🏻💪🏻
Good evening James, hope you’re well?
What a very enjoyable and thought provoking video.
Thank you so much for sharing how you feel and what railway modelling means to you.
My thoughts are much the same as yours.
Thank you Andrew, I’m happy to share these videos, but as I’ve said before, each leaves me a little more open, they’re heartfelt and it’s so wonderful to hear such kind words.
Thanks for sharing your passion, l always look forward to seeing your layout updates , I have purchased your second book and it’s now set a side for my Christmas present, I’m looking forward to reading the new book .
Chris, thank you, I’m so pleased to hear you’ve got a copy of the book, I do hope you enjoy it!
This is a very enjoyable video. Hearing your thoughts is inspiring and causes me to reflect on what am I trying to accomplish. Here in the US, the idea "bigger is better" is a constant battle for me. To see you happy and content with a small simple layout is a goal I hope to achieve. Your videos and two books are "motivational" for me. Never hesitate to share your thoughts. Thank you.
Hi Thomas, thank you, kind words and I do hope you find the right balance for your own modelling.
What really is amazing is that the less is more layout you've created makes me totally re-think my idea's of building a layout of my own 🤔
Raymond, I’m pleased my thoughts have made you reflect on your own hobby. There is no right or wrong, just what works for you. Evolving your relationship with model railways is a poweful realisation, I wish you luck!
Your videos and blog are very inspiring to me. Thanks to you (and a few other YT railway modellers), I'm trying to get a shift on with actually making a small shunting layout (though your Wrecsam Canolog cameo is also tempting me). Although funds are severely limited, I'm hoping to start picking up some bits this pay day to push things on. I love your philosophy and your love of the small, detailed and (in some ways) whimsical. Keep up the good work :)
Thank you, that’s wonderful! I do hope you enjoy the journey, good luck!
Definitely enjoying the small HO layout I have in the house, I can be warm, near the kettle, and lose myself in ten minutes of switching. There is much to be said for it🙂
Thank you Geoff, indeed, a kettle would be a welcome addition to my own workshop actually!
This is another really good video 👍
out if interest, if you were to do this again, would you go for N or 00? I am very inspired by these cameo layouts
and I am very space poor and will be for the foreseeable, so N really appeals but I have no other N stock or track etc so I am torn between the two, would you say it has been worth the plunge in to N for you? I would be using an 08 too 🎉
Thank you, these videos are very personal and lack the polish of others doing RUclips but I'm pleased that does seem to preserve their honesty.
I don't regret my N gauge adventure at all - take a look at my blog, it all started so innocently... baby steps. N can work out of the box, yes, using Peco track - but the hand laid track I use and the DG couplings transform realism and operation.
If you've modelling experience you've nothing to fear, take a paddle, see what you think... small steps before diving in!
@@JamesHiltonCustomModelRailways great advice thanks 🙏
Why are not all non-modeling people share that view about our hobby. In my case my family (except two cousins - females - of my late mother who do not) think that I am wasting my money for nothing of interest ! Those are just moronic idiots.
Also another argument to add to yours is the fact that cameo-modeling as you do on small surfaces is perfectly adapted to allow disabled persons like myself (stuck in a wheelchair) to still enjoy building models and running them. Also there is the plus of being able to build several (shadow boxes) than can be poerated separately or later joined together in a bigger railway system (the option I plan to pursue in N scale), and it allows to build as much as you can yourself, even track designed with Templot and then 3Dprinted or even change gage from OO to P4mm or EM and from N to P2mm. I may take the plunge to EM or P4 myself with my diesels and then superdetail my older Lima and Bachman models (easier than steamers)
Good luck Eric
😍🤩🥰
Thank you!
