Brilliant Kylie I have just ordered some, looking forward to receiving them. Awesome to hear an Aussie doing a tutorial make it seem like home well done.
Thanks for this tutorial. I bought these a couple of weeks ago, and so far, of the dozen or so backgrounds I've made, there's only one I'd use. I can't believe how much water it takes to dissolve the colour crystals ... I think I'll try the starch one! Thanks again!
Hi Virginia, perhaps you are sprinkling too much powder? Try a little less and see how you go. It shouldn't take too much water to get them to dissolve. If you need any help with your backgrounds, I'd be happy to take a look at the ones you have made - kyliepurtell@gmail.com :)
Hi Kylie ~ These cards are gorgeous!! I don't have Brushos, but I do have Color Burst so assume they will work the same way. The plastic wrap technique is my favorite and I can't wait to try it (but will have to buy some spray starch first, lol). Thanks for sharing!! (PS: Loved listening to your voice too!! I'm from the USA.)
Thank you Maggie! I love the starch technique. I have just demoed it at the first HLS Craft Retreat in the UK. I"m hoping to visit the USA next year and I always love playing with Brushos so you never know what I may bring with me!
@Maggie Baxter - I will be coming to the US (Florida) in 2018. Hope you will send through your expression of interest - shop.happylittlestampers.com/hls-craft-retreat-2018/
Hi Kiley, I have just found you. So good to hear a fellow Australian. I really enjoyed your video on Brushos. I have some on order just waiting for delivery. I know that I will love them. Thanks for your video. I will check out your blog. Hugs Glenis
Love Brushos! No art is the same so it's the random-ness I like. I wonder if instead of using starch, you could use shaving foam? But great video, and I must try the cling film technique.
Hello Kylie, thanks for the great tutorial. May I ask what the difference is with using starch instead of water? I havent seen starch used previously and wondered what you find the benefits seem to be? Many thanks
Megan Pickard Hi there Megan. The starch reacts differently to the brushos than the water does. If I sprayed as much water as I did starch, the colour would just be one big diluted mess. I haven't tried the water with the cling wrap technique but I can certainly do so as a comparison and let everyone know.
My favorite brusho technique is painting with bleach on a colorful brusho background. It completely goes back to the white paper and it's like painting with white.
Lori Jones I've done that as well only rubber stamped an image on top of brusho paint, then bleach out parts I want, when I stamp a girl I bleach the skin then color in a pretty complexion...they turn out so pretty.
I thought you weren't supposed to remove Brusho's lids anyway. (I just got a 24 pack for Christmas & used my Tim Holtz pokey tool to punch a hole in the middle of the lids-- they sprinkled just fine..)
ibkristykat It is just a tip for newbies to using Brushos. I mention not removing the lids just in case someone was wondering if they should or not. I also use a craft tool to poke a hole in the top.
The point was that the pots are concentrated powder that make up many litres of paints - usually for schools etc. For this technique, removing the lid isn't required. The lids ARE meant to be removed - they are designed for that :)
Is the starch going to be archival? Will it deteriorate in time? Inquiring minds want to know... LOL Linda PS Love the look of just the starch sprayed powders.
+LINDA BLOOM Intuitive & Inspired Art Hi Linda! It probably isn't archival! I haven't had any issues yet but it hasn't been long enough to see :) I suggest if you use this technique, spray the finished work with a sealer. I use a spray can of gloss sealer for arts and crafts. Hope this helps :)
INTUITIVE & INSPIRED ART Linda Bloom well brusho itself is not archival or lightfast. Some colors are better than others but it's best to use an archival varnish or special framing glass (uv light filter) for any finished artwork.
Wonderful! The starch was such a new idea to me. Thanks for sharing. I could listen to your accent all day. Waynesboro, VA
Brilliant fun 👍🏼🤩⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️! Such a great technique, thank you for the demo 😃.
Hi Kylie, my attempts never turn out as gorgeous as yours, you have a special touch. Well I'll try again using what youve shown thanks
Awesome end results using your Brushos. They are such a fun supply. Your accent fits you perfectly :) I love listening to videos with accents.
Vicki Dutcher Thanks so much Vicki! xx

Thanks so much Kylie. They look better now I've stamped on them, but I really appreciate your help. I will try less powder on the next lot.
I hope you have had success with your Brusho backgrounds. I can't wait to hear how you went :)
WoW!! What amazing techniques! I love the one with the cling wrap that looks fantastic!! I need to try Brusho now ;)
Kamila R. You must get them Kamila. So much fun! xx

Why is the starch better than just water? Great video! Thanks
When I have used lots of water, I put a second piece of card on top n then peel them apart. then you get two papers from one :)
Have you tried dropping on a sprinkle of perfect pearls for some metalics while the card is still wet? turned out ok on mine :)

Thanks so much Glenis. I hope you are enjoying your stamps xx
Does anyone know if rubbing alcohol has any effect with Brusho?
This looks much more fun than fixing old lamps up.
Thank you Kylie for a great tutorial. I just received mine box of Brushos and have yet to use them. Did you use a nail as a stopper?
Barbara Roe Hi Barbara. My stoppers are pop rivets out of my dad's toolbox!
the cling wrap works with any kind of paint, watercolor, acrylic and ink.
Love Brushos! No art is the same so it's the random-ness I like. I wonder if instead of using starch, you could use shaving foam? But great video, and I must try the cling film technique.
I will have to try that!
love this video - what did you use as a stopper in your brusho pots ?
+Debbie L Hi there Debbie. The stoppers are pop rivets from my dad's toolbox :)
+Kylie Purtell thank you - will look into it
Thanks for asking that, I wondered also. Glad we got an answer.
Beautiful!
Great techniques... Thanks!
+Boo Martin Thank you so much! xx
Starch looks like it makes color cloudy
It may look it in the video - I hadn't noticed! The finished product certainly isn't cloudy :)
