  • This is The Final Word Daily from the England-India Test series of 2021. Adam Collins and Geoff Lemon sum up the action, name our Player of the Day, and rank entries for our own Hall of Fame.
We’re on for a good final day in London. Another day that surged one way and then the other. An important partnership. Two quick wickets. A counterattack with a dash of responsibility. Another milestone for Shardul Thakur. Fun for Umesh Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah. Then a great start to a huge chase for Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed.

Disclaimer: This post is strictly a fan post and highly hopeful and wishful and speculative in nature. No claims made here are necessarily a binding claim. Having said this, let's start..
Jadeja will get his fifer of this series tomorrow. The rest of the bowlers have to get 5 wickets among them. India wins by 25 to 30 runs.
Jadeja bowls 30 overs out of 98 remaining overs for last day. Bumrah bowls 18. Umesh bowls 18. Siraj bowls12 overs. Shardul bowls 10 overs.
India bowls England out within 88 overs ending a thrilling day of test cricket. Winning by 25 to 30 runs.
Obviously these are all best guesses so the margin for error is great.
My guess is that 77 for 0 is the curse for England. Because they now feel that they can get the total so now they will go for it. Which will bring India some easier wickets in the first session including Root's wicket which will be crucial breakthrough. And then the bounce will become uneven and will start turning more and more after lunch and after tea.
Good luck India! Go Team India! Win it! Jai Bhavani! Har Har Mahadev!

I get it when people say pujara and rahane are vital for India in tests cz they have always steadied the ship during difficult times. Rahane's performance in the series so far is 5, NB, 1, 61, 18,10, and in this match 14 and 0. He does not desreve to be in the team any more. There are far more deserving people in the wings and i wont really mind even if they dont perform well as it will be far better than Rahane not performing well again. He needs to go and learn how not to get LBW during batting.

I love the Final Word, ever since I heard you talk about the Gabba! I feel Umesh Yadav will be lethal if the ball reverses, which is quite possible looking at how scuffed up the ball looked. Perhaps the Indian team is looking to do that right from the outset; otherwise they would have taken better care of the ball, which they have easily done in the past. England batted with rare composure today, and if they can keep their heads, The Oval will be witness to history!

Jadeja hasnt had much to do before this test, he hasnt had a spell to get into the rhythm and get used to the conditions in England. Also he doesnt have the skillset with the flight that ashwin uses to decieve batsman. For India Jadeja and reverse swing are the best bet to get 10 wickets. But surely England will be pleased to go into day 5 with all 10 wickets and yes all 4 results possible. Such a beautiful advert this again for test cricket, and this time we have had all 5 days play (barring bad light) and the weather easing the pitch from day 1/2 to day 3/4 and now breaking up just enough to scuff the ball, assist spin and allow reverse. But still not a minefield for batters. This is what Test cricket is all about, all factors and facets of the game all into play.

Who will be ur top 4 pace bowler on a docile track on final day from current lot of players- all nations. Best flat-track bowlers... maybe Rabada, Bumrah, Mohammad Abbas and Cummins. Some with accuracy, some with pace, some with variations. As for when to drop someone, it's not an exact science. Depends on what else they bring to the team, what options are available, and how they look. Rahane has had some valuable partnerships in this series, so it's not black and white to look at 'failures'.

Great analysis, it could four ways. I will be going and hope for a great test. England have a chance but it will be dependent if Kohli shuts shop and if it's not going his way then he uses negative tactics. India's bowling was almost 3rd eleven standard, they had no plan and/or unable to execute it. I wonder if the pitch will begin to crumble by the afternoon with the unexpected late English sun?

  • @naxalhim
    @naxalhim 3 года назад

Rahane’s tests score since Australia tour from December 2020 onwards are 42-0, 112-27 22-4, 37-24, England tour of India 2021 are 1--0, 67--10, 7-NB, 27-NB, followed by WTC final 49-15, and India tour of England series 5-NB, 1-61, 18-10, and in this match 14-0. If England lose any game their commentators and experts do a proper analysis the coach makes the necesssary changes to make sure that others get a chance. But Shastri and Kohli are hell bent on sticking with Rahane for not sure what reason?! None of the Indian commentators have the guts to ask tough questions and all are just trying to get popularity and likes by taking goody-goody about everybody. If he has any dignity left Rahane should just vacate his post and give it to another deserving person because Shashtri and Kohli does not have the spine to make any necessary changes to make players accountable and bring in Suryakumar Yadav in the next match. None of the English SKY Sports commentators in UK uttered any word about Rahane all day today as they are pleased about his non-performance. Its up to the Indian team coach and captain to take this call but they are just turning a blind eye. Rishabh Pant started to unleash beast mode after scoring a personal landmark of 50 and got out C&B to Moeen Ali but wish he had thought about Indian team landmark of a lead of 350 or 400 for that matter as it looks like England will easily sail through tomorrow on this flat batting friendly pitch. Hoping for a miracle tomorrow.

327 odd overs bowled so far uptil stumps on day 4.
Lords lasted 415.3 overs,it might be again close to that in Oval test.
2nd new ball is 48 overs away so it will be available not much before tea.
It's an interesting set up & M Siraj should surprise the English batsman on a flat pitch.
Responsibility lies on shoulders of Jadeja to do the job for India at day 5.
291 required in 90 overs,it looks crazy but if England are not more than 5 down at tea, they will go for the win.
Those lower order English allrounders can do the drama in the final session on day 5.
If it stays sunny throughout on day 5 & India isn't able to knock England off, then S Thakur is good to bat at n.o 7 with 3 genuine quicks & Ashwin at 8.
Jadeja should be able to prove that wrong otherwise Ashwin should replace him at Manchester if India don't wanna go with 2 spinners & play 4 seamers.
    13 wickets on day 1
    7 wickets on day 2
3 wickets on day 3(That can be defining if Ind win or draw)
    7 wickets on day 4
India needs 10 wickets on day 5 & will require help of spin & if it reverses U Yadav can be handy but Siraj could be the man to watch out on day 5.
It definitely now looks a 5 day 15 session 400+ over thriller.

A small math calculation assuming 80 to 85 overs possible play on day 5 if bright sun shine. Say 291 in 85 overs comes out with 3.42 runs per over. Let us take pitch out of equation. Stokes is not here for England. Still England don't have a breathing space I think because from ball one England just need to score runs. Simply rotate strike and hit odd boundary. Still we all know virat how his tactics could be. Lot of rough for jadeja against left handers let's see. Interestingly positioned still not Englands game surely.
