      Another tip for Dr Dray: Re: 14:52 - Beware (to her subscribers) of the propylene glycol, anecdotal, I know, but in me it caused treatment-absolutely-resistant dandruff about which a lot of MDs are ignorant. It was just very chunky dandruff (yuck) with zero itching. I tried every dandruff shampoo (Rx and OTC) for a year to no avail until I switched to foam. No more dandruff. So glad they ditched it!

    I started using Nioxin for major hair loss (System 6). Though I think I have hair for System 3, I decided because I had extreme shedding/hair loss to get System 6. It stopped the hair loss immediately and is still stopping it. I Love the hair kit and the Nioxin HTX 3D Intensive Diamax. They saved my hair. As someone who works in Pathology & tells the doctors what is what… I personally recommend this & not that Neutrogena crud.

      I used various Nioxin products and systems for many years, and I was happy with results. However , in the last 1-2 years the product quality has changed dramatically for the worse. Now shampoo leaves hair dry, and frenzy, somewhat similar to clarifying shampoos which are very harsh

    I used system 2, bought the small kit.
    The shampoo really deeply cleansed my scalp. Did not have problems with the mint.
    The conditioner was a bit too much for my scalp (I have oily hair), it really needs a long long rinsing to make sure it’s all off and my hair was always limp.
    The leave-in product in this case is a light mousse that disappears in the hair. It does not leave your hair crunchy in any way.
    All in all, I felt it helped slightly my hair thinning, and I’ve repurchased the shampoo to use as a deep cleanser once a week or so.
    More than that, realising that I have chronic anemia and starting taking iron supplements was the actual game-changer.

    So I do use system 1. I completely see your point. I have noticed my hair is fuller, and the breakage and hair-fall is much less than my previous shampoo, and I think part of it is the Ph balance of the system. It does work for me. I don't suffer from hair loss per say, but I have noticed that the hair I do have is stronger and it seems or appears fuller.
    I really appreciate your videos.

    I was treated for thyroid cancer last year and before going through that I had hypothyroidism meaning my hair was constantly shedding. I actually used the nioxin system to try and help. I didn’t find the shampoo or conditioner to be very effective but I did like the scalp treatment leave on spray and actually found it reduced the amount of hair I was loosing. I forgot to take it on a trip with me and that’s when I realised how well it was working when I wasn’t able to use it for 2 weeks. My hair has grown back now so I don’t use the nioxin treatment but I definitely found it useful, it didn’t do miracles or help to grow my hair but it did seem to reduce the amount of hair fall for me which was a massive bonus and saved me from a lot of distress in the shower.

      I’m hypo and was also diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Currently trying to calibrate the proper dose of levothyroxine. What did you find helped with hair regrowth? I’m currently having the thinning issue and hair loss on the top of my head. Hopefully you see this. Thank you

      @@EliasSanchez21 Hi, ah I’m sorry to hear you’ve been through the same. Because you’ve also had cancer you’ll probably be slightly over medicated to keep your TSH low to prevent the cancer coming back. I actually felt much better on a higher dose of Levothroxine and it definitely helped my hair! You should ask to see a copy of your blood results and push to get your TSH as close to 0 as possible .
      My hair is about 90% back to its original health and thickness now and no longer use the nioxin treatment but it definitely helped at the time but have tried other products over the years that I prefer. I had covid related hair loss last year so I started using viciscal supplements for hair growth, scalp oiling 2/3 times a week and scalp massages and within a week or 2 my hair stopped falling out and now I have so much regrowth!
      If you had surgery for your cancer recently remember that is a major trauma to your body and you need to take the time to look after yourself and try not to worry. Your hair will eventually grow back it just takes time and lots of patience. Be kind to yourself and try to reduce any stress as much as possible ❤️

    • @EliasSanchez21
      @EliasSanchez21 4 месяца назад

      I’m just seeing this reply. Thank you for the advice and kind words.
      I am currently at 275 of levothyroxine and it will probably still increase. We’re still trying to figure out my dosing. I’m 6’4 250lbs and workout a lot so my dose is probably a bit higher than most because of my size. The fatigue during this time is very annoying but has improved little by little.
      I don’t notice hair falling out anymore like before and I’m starting to have regrowth including my eyebrows. I’m making progress but the process is long and slow. I find myself wearing hats a lot to try and hide my hair because I don’t like how it looks compared to before when I had thick curls. But I’ve read that’s not good so now I’m just sucking it up and letting it breathe. Not only did my scalp get dry encause of this cancer issue but my face now suffers from being too dry and some redness also. Issues that I never had before. It will be a long road to recovery and feeling at least 90%.

    I have personally used both System 2 and System 4 on multiple occasions and have found them helpful to thicken up the hair as four years ago at 22 my hair had thinned out so much. But these systems are more than anything just supplementing the treatment that is carried out in salons, which is if anything the product that actually works. The treatment can be applied every 45 days to the scalp. In my country at least, the treatment product cannot be bought for home use, not sure about other countries. I don't know if its ingredients are available on their website either.

      @CalmVibesVee 4 года назад +9

      Lena, this has been my experience....
      I have had a huge improvement in my hair length and new growth. I thought the previous slow growth and thinning was because I am approaching 50. The only thing that has changed is I increased my protein. I was eating about 60 grams per day and for the last 5 months I have been eating 100-120g of protein primarily coming from ground beef & gelatin. (Not jello brand) I already eat a low carb anti inflammatory diet (4th year) but it wasn’t till I increased beef protein consistently that I saw great improvement. No disrespect to anyone who only eats plants. 💕 🤗 I eat 3 C cabbage & 3 C iceberg everyday with 1lb of beef. I have also lost more fat since I increased beef protein.
      Twice a week I use OGX argan shampoo, Pantene smooth conditioner (not on scalp!) I put the old fashioned vo5 ointment on the ends and don’t get much breakage anymore. I rarely use heat and careful with combing etc.
      I hope you can find some improvement dear one.

    • @amixeblu
      @amixeblu 4 года назад +3

      Hair typically grows about 6 inches a year, so it should be growing. If you are still using heat (especially irons) on your hair, the ends may be breaking off faster than you can grow (heat damage is real, especially from really hot temperatures, aka "white dots" up the strand). Also, don't buy into the "myth" that you need to get your hair trimmed every 6 to 8 weeks. If you are still doing that, your stylist is taking all the growth off. All you need, is good hair practices (no heat), patience and less trimming; and it will grow. This is coming from someone with classic length hair (over the booty). Good luck!

      Caffeine helps stimulate the pores into growing the hair faster. I used a coffee scrub by Frank and Body and that grew my hair super fast. Also Nioxin promotes hair growth and is recommended to cancer patients :)

    As a hairdresser of about like a decade, I can share with you you, that you are not supposed to apply strong hair shampoo on your hair.
    I've observed hairlines of many individuals, and I noticed that people who were using strong shampoo cleansers generally had thin hair line.
    So I suggest only to use mild shampoo cleanser only. I personally use and recommend to apply littleextrra coconioon shampoo only.
    Also, do hot oil massage two times a week as it boosts circulation and promotes healthy hair growth.

    I experienced a allergic contact dermatitis after using a hair thickening shampoo for about a month. First few weeks were fine, then suddenly - BAM - eczema and scarring on the areas where the shampoo would touch (arms, hands, neck, ears, upper back and shoulders. I am certain it was likely the peppermint in the product. At the time I thought peppermint was good to stimulate the scalp and promote hair growth, but I will never use shampoos with peppermint in them again as I am pretty sure I am now sensitized to that ingredient. 😞💔

    I really love the kenra zinc shampoo, I have color treated hair and love it so much more than a drug store version of the same thing. The actual surfactants are more gentle than the ones used by head and shoulders and it is 1.9% zinc rather than just 1%. It does have a mild fraigrance, though, so obviously that's not appropriate for everyone.

    I literally just found Nioxin a few days ago and I've been so curious about it! Crazy how you always make videos on products I just started looking at.
    I am interested in learning more about Peppermint and lavender EO for hair growth, I know you said that it doesn't help with the scalp health past helping relieve some itch... but I do know that a lot of DIY enthusiastic curly girls point to a 2014 and a 2016 study of comparing Lavender and Peppermint EO with Minoxidil on mice, with good results. I wonder if you disregard these study because they're only on mice and failed to be replicated in human trials or if you think the cost vs benefit of EO is just not worth it. I've been very curious on your thoughts on these studies.

    I have (heartbreakingly) experienced hairloss since age 17 (34 now) Over the years I have tried so many products and the only time I see a difference in the thickness of my hair is when I use Nioxin. It's very expensive here in New Zealand so that's unfortunate. I have been using spironolactone, mycrogynon as I have PCOS. I also use a simple anti-dandruff shampoo twice a week and with all of this, I can see that my hair is thicker. Still, it's not like a normal head of hair but it is thicker. After watching this, I might repurchase Nioxin. I don't think it regrow hair at all, but it does definitely make mine look thick and bouncy. Have a nice day Dr Dray😁

    I used Nioxin for years because it was recommended to me for dry scalp and static in the dry Canadian winter. I have fine hair and have difficulty finding shampoo/conditioners that do not weigh my hair down. I saw a difference after only a few uses. Nioxin left it light and soft with no static or dryness. I only used it in the winter because it can be expensive.
    I stopped using it when I started covering my gray because the series for colour treated hair does not protect the colour, and now I know why. Although I still keep some on-hand and will use it to if static is bad. I also never have never used the leave-in third step because one and two did the trick.

    Hi Dr Dray, In regards to your recommendations about getting a diagnosis, I find that to be the biggest challenge. I’ve seen numerous Dermatologists that would typically dismiss my hair loss problem and blame it on stress after getting a complete bloodwork that comes back normal. What tests do you recommend to get a diagnosis when your patients has no other visible scalp issues other than just plain hair loss?

      Yes that’s been my problem as well. I finally went to hair club years back and what they did was scanned my scalp with like a magnifying glass that they touch your scalp with it and they go around and look for any miniaturized hair follicles and they found a few and even found one hair follicle that wasn’t growing any hair there. So with that I found that my problem is DHT based. My issue comes and goes but now that I’m older I’m definitely going to my primary for Spironolactone since after the birth of my child my blood pressure has slowly creeped up as well and this is also prescribed for that.

I started using a caffeine based under eye regime from the Original. I like their formula, and thought it was helpful, however I stated to notice that I am getting small pimples under my eyes and even on top of my eyelids. I don’t mean comodones, but actual pimples, and I find that strange. Have you ever come across this? 45 y/o F, thank you

      Function of Beauty is totally worth it! I've gone through so many drug store and high end brands that don't hold a candle to FOB! Also having alot of hair falling out. Quite a process working with insurance, family doctor, dematologist, and hair loss specialist to figure out if it's male pattern baldness or something else. If I had $1,500 to burn out of pocket I could just get the full array of blood tests done and take it to the specialist for review. But because I don't, I have to work with what my doctor and the dermatologist he recommended think I should do (instead of just testing for everything). So far, doc checked out my thyroid and that's about it. That came back okay, so the dermatologists advice was to "meditate to reduce stress," and "wait and see" if the hairloss develops the typical male pattern or not, to only then decide what to do -.- ugh

      @Marlena Baker I wouldn’t waste your money on a shampoo like this, if the majority of your hair has grows back and looks great but your just lacking the fullness, I would seriously consider investing in quality hair extensions such as a hand tied weft sew in method.
      I think in the long run you would spend more time and money on products that don’t work vs. properly installed hair extensions that give you the result you’re looking for.

I feel like the Night Density Rescue works the best, and it is a option that makes my hair loss better since minoxidil makes my scalp extremelly itchy and hot. Dr. Dray do you know what the difference between their "scalp recovery" line and the "scalp optimizing" line is? (other than the optimizing not having a 3rd part leave-in product) I've always been confused about their indended differences and have never really been able to get a clear answer, including from them. I've also seen this question asked in Q&A areas of websites that sell them and Nioxin has replied with inconsistent answers. Both contain 1% Pyrithione Zinc as an active ingredient and both claim to help with symptoms of dandruff on the bottle (though there's no mention of either dandruff or Pyrithione Zinc on the optimizing lines web pages of their website, which makes it even more confusing!)

    My understanding with Nioxin is that it doesn’t necessarily regrow hair but it stops the hair loss from progressing further. I noticed light thinning and started using Nioxin system 1 a few years ago and it seems to have stopped my hair loss for the time being but nothing grew back.
    Also you have to be warned about Rogaine. Rogaine will actually cause hair loss for the first 3-4 months as it basically makes you shed your damaged hair so you’ll actually go more bald which freaks dudes out. Your hair will start to come back after about 6-8 months and you start seeing real results with a year, But if you stop using Rogaine everything will fall back out. So once you’re on the Rogaine train then its a life long process unless you get a hair transplant or move to prescription stuff.
