People want it because it's not diesel, it's not German and it's great value for money. The fact that British car reviewers all think it's rubbish is another big bonus because they're mostly pants.
Currently have the RC in the household and safe to say, after having driven the merc c class coupe, Audi A5 and BMW 4 series, this does in fact make you feel quite a bit more special upon sitting in and driving around in. Maybe it doesn’t do 0-60 in 6 seconds but the amount of looks it gets is just addictive. No audi, merc or bmw in this class with get as many looks. Plus the leather is actually leather - feels and smells like it too unlike the Germans
I mean if you’re buying a luxury coupe you’re not buying it to make somewhat of a statement, so the design should be expressive even on the inside. I haven’t tried this car but I’ve tried an IS and it definitely gives a cockpit feel since you sit so low inside and get those sloping controls. I felt wonderful behind the wheel. More so than the last c-class and 3 series I drove.
Contrary to some of the comments, actually I think this review misses the point of hybrids (as pretty much all reviews do). Firstly, the price comparison isn’t accurate because, as subsequently noted, the Lexus is better specced. Secondly, you always get the “horrible noise” line. If you drive the car properly, that never happens. If you want to put your foot down to that extent, you wouldn’t have bought a hybrid to start with (you might have bought the RC F of course). The reviewer does say if you drive it gently it’s really nice, and that is exactly the point. Btw, it’s not the car for me, out of interest. I don’t like the centre console (more or less with the reviewer there as a former Volvo owner), the infotainment is a struggle (at least to begin with) and I do think it is too compromised size-wise. It’s just a general point that reviewers never do justice to hybrids because, well, they never focus on the point of them!
A coupe that's horrible to drive quickly is like a running shoe with high heels. If you kept falling over while jogging in your high heeled Nikes, would it be wrong to mention it?
I agree, Lexus did try to improve most of those negatives in the LC 500h, but I wish they did with Lexus what Porsche did with the Turbo S e-Hybrid Tech.
To be Jonest I liked the video. I do not agree with everything, but one key point for me (why I did not liked the RC) was that there is obvious gap between looks and performance (as pointed out). I really think the car is gorgeous looking, but it just do not "go". Again very accurately pointed out in the review - if you drive it carefully and slowly it is actually nice, but if you little bit harsher on your car (like I am) you will be disappointed. Now regarding the sound - yes it is poor, but I had no hairdryer effect from eCVT, I actually quite liked the fake fixed rations when in "S" mode and "computer game fast" response from paddle shifters. Rear space is small and I agree both BMW and MB does better, but I am not fussed about that (it doesn't make that factually incorrect though) - I would buy 2 door coupe for it.. well being 2 door coupe... that is where I disagree with review bringing 4 series Grand coupe from BMW and 5 door A5 for comparison. For me they are just plainly stupid cars... if I would want 4 door I would go for 3-Series or A4... Other things - infotainment system in Lexus RC is pretty bad, just no way going around it.. it is bad.. as well I had complaints of some rather cheap plastic details in cabin, but I cannot agree that driver positions or seat is bad - it was one of the best position and seat I have ever sat in.
Ah, Mark, you always, always make me laugh. It's a fair point, but I actually don't mind the sheep in wolf's clothing thing. It'll be reliable and economical once it's stopped doing its hairdryer thang.
The car looks great yet just been to Japan and yes, from the ticket machines for the underground with lots of flashing lights and cute sounds to the electric toilets - ergonomics are not their engineer’s strong point.

I’m sorry but if you’re gonna mention a beautiful interior why not mention the C-Coupe? The Volvo’s interior design language, while nice is too sedate to be in anything wearing 2 doors.
Totally agree with you on the interior. Lexus interiors are just so meh. The designers put buttons in an air gun and shot it on to a blank dashboard and then left the buttons just where it landed. They also stuffed some 90s inspired buttons in that gun too.

I love lexus. Their so high quality and reliable. I used to love the is200 back in 05. It was so sporty and nice.

Drove a Lexus GS once (a new model). It drove like an unresponsive tank and you felt the size of the vehicle all the time. Great acceleration though.

I would recomend the Audi A5 Coupe or the BMW 4 Series Coupe as they are a lot better with more Legroom In the back
