I love this archon quest's name so much. In Chinese it's 罪人舞步旋 (Masquerade of the Guilty), pronounced "Zuìrén wǔbù xuán" and if you read it backwards you'll have "Xuānbù wú rén zuì" which means "Declared no one Guilty"
I love Focalor's detachment when she talks. Despite the little characterization she receives, the inhuman morality is not hidden. I'm glad they didn't follow the pure, kind-hearted anime maiden trope. Like, pureness and good intentions don't mean you will behave in a good manner. There is this subtle lack of empathy that reminds you we are not dealing with a human.
Focalor is the "divinity" aspect of the hydro archon which does lack any human components so her demeanor tracks. Ngl, there are times where her matter-of-fact tone was pissing me off especially when she was talking about Furina's suffering. In the end though, she righted wrongs as such as one that embodies justice.
@@IIC7IMO, its just like Neuvilette's "inability to cry" aspect, its like, they both do feel emotions, its just that it's been hidden under layers of divinity. The difference between the two is that we've known Neuvilette a bit longer than Focalors, so we can "read" him a bit better, while for Focalors we need to extrapolate from what she's said and done, as well as consider Furina (since Focalors and Furina are rhe same person).
I feel like Focalors needed to detach herself emotionally from the situation to carry out her will in order to have a chance to deceive the Heavenly Principles. We know memories can be hidden from the Heavenly Principles underlying the world (such as how Nahida "backed up" the memory of Scaramouche), so in a similar vein, Focalors needed to compartmentalize her own feelings from her actions to outwardly conform to the prophecy.
the way she was talking abt furina and then immediately said "and then i had to curse her" reminded me that she's a god at the end of the day ksksk and has different morals. she did do smth noble by destroying her seat and basically giving a huge fuck you to celestia tho, but u can tell the way she talks abt furina's suffering that she lacks empathy, like a true divine being would
You can also see it in nahida. Since she's the embodiment of wisdom, she will pursue something that is not in her knowledge almost no matter what it cost. nahida was even talking on the same length as the insane Dottore
She REALLY believed in Neuvillette so much that she decided to go with this plan. She invited him to take on the role of the Iudex, HOPING that he would understand the ways of humans and sympathize with them enough to 'forgive' their sins. If Neu got his power back and decided to 'nope' out of all of this, her plan is doomed.
At the end of the day, the Seven Dragons weren’t evil or malicious beings, simply distant from humanity. After 400 years of seeing the worst of humanity, and the best, the fact he didn’t damn them is quite telling of how perhaps the dragons are better gods than the “gods” installed by celestia
I mean even the gods in the throne of the archon, they're better than the gods in celestia. If in the beginning the heavenly principles didn't stole dragon sovereign power&throne, they will live side to side till this day. Since their purpose is same, to live peacefully. And there will be no sacrifices needed, like imagine rukha, makoto, and every other dead character(the long live one)still alive till now. Oh what a dream...
It's not that she had any other choice. In the end, this convoluted, extremely risky gambl that relying not only on Fontainians giving Neuvilette a sense of empathy, but also on Furina's extreme mental fortitude to keep acting and deceiving, was the best "deal" she got. Even she complained about this deal, which to be honest, was extremely unfair, especially considering the Hypocrisy of Celestia of punishing Egeria and the Fontainians of the same sin they've commited against the Dragons. The fact the Narwhal behind it was just someone's "pet", which is probably a similar attitude Rhinedottir might have had with other abyssal beings like Elynas and Durin, show how even more unfair it is, given these matters treated like nothing by people beyond this world. I imagine if she met Traveller's sibling right after she got the archon title, she could've come with something different. For example, entering the Abyss Order's Loom of Fate plan.

Not forced more like willing, she weighed the future of Fontaine and her sacrifice, the future of the people is worth the long sacrifice she would make.
It's ironic that we learned from the Teyvat storyline that the Hydro Archon is one "not to make an enemy of the divine." And yet here she is blatantly destroying the Hydro Archon's throne returning the power to one of the Dragon Sovereigns.
It was so cool, but the entire time I was wondering what Celestia would do, I mean they have to be able to tell that one Thrones was destroyed, and one ancient dragon got their power back right?
Yes, I like that she wasn’t directly starting war like Tsaritsa but rather she pull the wool on Celestia’s eyes. Focalors got everyone fooled including Furina herself.
Can we not talk about how Rukkadavata and Focalars literally killed themeselves for their people? Rukka for Irminsal and Elzar. But foca just did it because the power was stolen therefore injustice and for the original sin from Egeria. Focalars was forced to die she didn’t have a choice.
But Rukkhadevata also had to off herself from entire existence, otherwise her own presence in the Iriminsul would be an eternal stain upon Teyvat's existence, as such, I believe she had the worse fate, to be forgotten by everyone, including her own incarnation. Meanwhile, at least Focalors are remembered by Neuvillete and Furina for her sacrifice
To be fair, Rukkhadevata is still Nahida. She simply reincarnated herself, but the person she was in the past, and the memory of her was deleted. Focalors is the first to actually die, and be gone forever, as they made it clear the two aren't really the same person.

This was even sadder than Rukhadevatta's death. Neuvillette's heart must have shattered watching her die. And he will lose Furina too in no time. Why must he suffer like this? At least Nahida could forget what she has lost.

Focalors’ bow after the dance looks like she’s sticking her neck out for the guillotine to fall. I couldn’t breath when the entire cutscene was playing out. The storytelling was so amazing.

It hits me hard that Neuvillette cries like I know that he's a cool dude that when he's sad it will rain, but now we witness that his crying with tears.
I think that's why we never saw him crying until now. We knew he was sad and likely crying due to the rain but it was never shown. That's why it hits hard to see his real tears now, of all times.

I just realize the Hydro Archon is the only non-playable archon character so far since she pretty much dead in the story and Furina who got cursed with immortality, is just an ordinary human later receive a vision.
ao Neuvillette now has his full power? I can't believe Focalors is the only one(for mow maybe) who thought of giving a Dragon Sovereign what is rightfully theirs. To me, that is her sense of justice, and in the end, she lived by her title as the God of Justice

With Focalors, she gave the Gnosis back to Neuvillette.
This is so sad. But goddamn Furina really got that dawg in her. Imagine being a "human" taking in a role of fooling everyone for 500 years. 500 years dawg. Such mental strength, and fortitude. Even when she went on to dance on the thin line of breaking mentality (and risk going insane), she still toed on it and marched forward with nothing but a pure goal. Hell, I could say Furina got the determination like that of Otto Apocalypse. I tip my hat to Furina's absolute guts. The freedom she got after the Finale is truly long due and deserved. And Neuvillette saying he'll be supporting Furina financially. Talk about a full-fledged successful retirement. No wonder the Archons basically says nothing but praise for her. Now I want to see Furina later chilling in Mondstadt, drinking with Venti.

Still so happy and sad how Egeria was the god of "Existence" while Focalors was the god of Justice it really showcases the both of them and how their fates were brought upon them very unfairly
They both are the God of justice. "Existence" was Egeria's justice, and "Continuation" is Focalors' justice. It's kinda similar to the God of Eternity, the Raiden twins. "Transience" was Makoto's Eternity, and "Stasis" was Ei's Eternity which she later changed, of course.
Yeah I love how they have their own chosen ambition but still carries out the past ambitions of their own predecessors in their own unique way in handling it too
Except for Focalor, the rest of the archons died because of the humans themselves, because of their arrogance, because of their greed, and because of the use of the abyss. And it is these same people who seek to destroy Teyvat and not Celestia, who, no matter how incredible you seem, has never done anything bad, never said anything bad. Even the focalor thing is more the fault of the oceanids themselves for using energies that at some point the teyvat itself would claim. And if the dragons died by their own hand, it was not Celestia who brought the war to them but they brought the war to Celestia, only because of the arrogance of wanting something that they surely lost fairly.

To clear up the confusion Focalars and Furina were once the same person. However, they split into two one being “divinity” and the other “humanity”. Essentially becoming two halves of the same coin with different “faces” this case that being personalities. So technically Furina dispite not being divine she is still technically Focalars in human flesh the “former” hydro archon. Just without the power and memories. Similar to Nahida and rukkadevata situation specifically in which they are essentially the same person but just with different personalities and experiences and Raiden for that fact as well. Furina possibly holds some sort of residual power from Focalars. Given she is the only character that can wield both Arke energies. That even Neuvillte can’t wield together. Now that Focalars sacrificed herself Furina is now free from her curse and can live her life as human which is what Focalars wanted to do in the first place. In addition Neuvillte is now the true hydro sovereign he is not the archon. The seat of the hydro archon is now destroyed meaning there can’t be a hydro archon unless celestia somehow interferes which is very possible. Since celesta wants 7 gods to exist as there representatives to display power and authority over tevyat. Fontaine is now free of that authority and now it is another “Khanera”. So Furina or someone else could technically re-gain that power either by choice or against their will by the heavenly principles themselves. Also Neuvillte technically can’t be the archon even if he wanted to bc the heavenly principles won’t allow the very thing they destroyed(The original Dragon Sovereigns) to sit next to them or represent them. Nor would Neuvillte even would want to become an archon given he dislikes celesta already. So instead of there being the seven archons it’s now six as of late. Focalars gave celestia the fattest screw you to date. But, it will eventually come back to bite Fontaine in the end. As of what we know every civilization that has went against, and or not follow a direct god established and accepted by of the heavenly principles have all ended in curses or destroyed entirely leaving only echos. It is only 4.2 there are still a handful of updates that haven’t taken place yet. I don’t think Furina, Fontaine, and Neuvillte or done just yet. Even Focalars for that matter we have seen gods revived. Can’t wait for the rest of story to play out.
Didn't zhongli give up his archonship as well? I remember him saying to Azhdaha/Kun Jun that he is no longer the geo archon. So currently, there are only 5 archons.
I feel so sorry for furina. She is a human and unlike Neuv who mostly stay indoor, she loves to go out and see people, and through 500 years she must have seen so many human she knew passing away. Throughout that amount of time she has to continue wearing a mask and lies. There isn't anyone she can truly trust because she knows they would turn against her once they found out. The amount of stress she must feel during that trial, having everyone she thought would be her support turning against her and thinking that all she has done for the past 500 years to save everyone are all going down the drain must be so scary. I don't know how she didn't turn crazy and even find courage to heal during her story quest. Even after that incident, some people are still blaming her. I suppose Focalors counts her as another version of herself because otherwise it's not a fair/just deal at all for furina.
There is something I don't have very clear, for what they still blame Furina? The citizens of Fontaine doesn't know the truth about Focalors plan and the roll Furina had?
Only if the people of Poisson hate her, even with the cover of using all her godly power to advert the prophecy a lot of their people still died due to her (supposed) inaction.
I finally understood - "Faced with death, I find myself a little afraid, Perhaps, This is one thing both gods and humans have in common". might also be the reason why Furina danced the same in her inner mind , thinking she might also dissolve along with the people of fontaine. What a masterpiece.
I feel so bad for Neuvillette in this entire quest seriously, fitting in with humans, Carole dying a terrible death, realizing Vautrin went to prison for him, witnessing focalors die, now Furina will age and die on him, all while being the chief Justice and protector of the nation. I thought there will be no archon or their vessel that suffer more than Nahida, turns out what Furina has been through is unimaginable, she had to play pretend for half a millennia for the sake of the people of Fontaine, while they didn't even aware of it 😢
That's the annoying part. They see Furina as "the Archon who did nothing" as if she did not have the greatest contribution and sacrifice for the wellbeing of them all. How absurd. They should at least let the Fontanians know what really happened behind the scenes now that hey have successfully deceived the Heavenly Principles. Furina deserves better.
Fountain story quest is the best so far, not saying that other region story is not good enough, but this is too epic. I can feel the improvement for the writing, and adding to that the voice actor did really good job. I can feel that we nearly approaching climax of the teyvat story. I'm glad i can be part of this community and witnessing this masterpiece, and i hope i can see it until the end.
Agree, but I think the boss part was kinda weak, like there isn't any scene there, neuvillette just says "im sharing my power with you" and in some seconds done, yes they show skirk and lore bombs drop, but nothing too epic, then rescue the people from water etc, I think it would have been much cooler if they were fighting the whale, they would be loosing or close it without any hope, and then furina using the oratrice or something to give neuvilette and later traveler the powerup, or epic line drop like in sumeru, I think in this nation the traveler didn't even get a nickname or tittle like previous ones, and furina kinda dissappears from the quest after that, if I couldn't do her quest after that I would feel so empty (also thought they would make her getting a vision a epic part of the main story, but guess it fits with her not being a fighter, also had a crazy idea where everyone actually dies and turns into water, and then furina somehow with the vision or temporal archon powers "resurrects" them, but rip) Still enjoy it a lot tho

And yeah, without Furina's story quest you're kind of left feeling empty like something important is missing regarding her immediately following the Archon quest. I can sort of understand having it split up though since both the Archon quest by itself was already ridiculously long and the story quest does give a bit of a better chance to focus on the main star of Fontaine.

This is really sad 😭, to see a major character actually die in the story is just heartbreaking, and God's sacrifice, a tremendous performance we have from Hoyoverse, now this is where we might actually start losing important characters now, But to be fair this is only just Furina's god self, and now she is human, rest in peace, Focalors.

@@milktocoffee Focalors destroyed the throne of the Hydro Archon. The power has gone back to the Hydro Sovreign, and its power will flow to Nev's sucessor when he kicks the bucket.
She truly is the god of justice, even judging herself and egeria as the sinners. Ultimately, she manages to right the wrongs and give the stolen power to its rightful owner.
Ngl this archon quest made me cry when Focalors said final goodbye to Neuvillette and the bubble touched furina and the screen appears like "Thank you, Furina. Please live like a peaceful human, just like we wished to." Ah i cried hard.. Furina's past is really sad and the fact that she tried to keep her identity a secret but in the trail she failed and she was crying 😭

Her elegant dancing before she got executed is just so epic and sad. I thought Hoyo can't make me cry after that one Youkai event in Inazuma. But this new one really hit me like a truck 😭
I cried twice during Genshin. Focalor's death and Rukkhadevata's death. The fact that most still remember how to spell previous Dendro archon's name is a strong testament to how good the writing is.

*SPOILER* There have been a few cutscenes in Genshin that have nearly brought me to tears. Makato's final goodbye to Ei, Nahida having to save Irminsul, Xiao's near sacrifice in the Chasm, Yunjin's opera dance describing Shenhe's backstory, and now this.
"Farewell Neuvillete, I hope you've enjoyed the role you've played these 500 years" That line gave me chills. Absolutely perfectly delivered line, the voice actress did such a good job. I can't praise her enough. Absolutely peak writing. FREE GAME BTW.
Same. When the update came out, i watched the cutscenes on youtube. When focalors said “hydro dragon, hydro dragon, don’t cry”, i was deeply saddened, but i didnt cry. I got on later that day to play the quest. But even before she said it, i was crying. I was bawling my eyes out, begging her not to say it, begging the game not to kill her. I uses to think furina was annoying, but now i feel deeply terrible for her and for the 186,000 days she had to endure without being able to pursue happiness. 186,000 days of keeping up the lie, not knowing when it could stop.
Oh dude same I was straight sobbing when Neuvillette was crying. It’s crazy how much he’s grown over the past 500 years to love humans and want to understand them more. Focalors was amazing to just absolutely give a giant middle finger to Celestia but manage to make the saddest scene where Neuvillette is mourning her death while saving Fontaine’s people

Although she deceived all of Fontaine, Focalors did one of the most selfless acts in Genshin's history. I don't think we can thank her enough. Furina can now live normally thanks to her.
Furina trusting every word her “mirrored self” told her once then stick to those in effort to make it all alone through those 500 years…. Forcalors spending 500 years stacking power just to sacrifice her own life and trust that her human self can handle it by her self till the very end… Yeah idk if there a stronger trust than this, they met and talk like once then both suffering all alone in the next 500 years without anyone else to know or help them
TBH I'm glad to see that she's acting a lot more aloof (though still kind and helpful deep down) in the story quest and event stories. At least she's being herself now, not playing some clown just to satisfy people's imagination of an archon.
Why some people think Foca and Furi are different person. She clearly said herself that she separated her divinity from her and spirit and leave only as her past SELF on her first day as a human being. It means it is her body before she became an archon so basically it's the same person 🤷
they're practically different person. them being one divine and one human doesn't change the fact that their personalities are so different, they can interact like 2 different people.
Not just body but also mind, Furina is a pure human and she is who Forcalors would wanted to be as a human if she don’t have to take on the responsibility of an archon “Live happily as a human, just as i wished we could”
I wouldn’t be surprised if Snezhnaya was super happy about this; An archon gave their gnosis up, and while it wasn’t to the Tsaritsa herself, Neuvilette pretty obviously is opposed to Celestia as well now. It will be interesting how those two nations interact, as they have far more common ground than any of the other nations.
I know Honkais worse in terms of death and such but watching Focalors basically get executed in front of us actually made me cry, what she did for her people, what she had to go through as a human as well as dying to fulfill the prophecy. I just can’t do this no more man how many more? 😭😭
This scene was so damn HEAVY. The music, the drama, the sacrifice, the deceit, the insanity, and the love of a god for her peoples. As a grown man it’s rare for me to cry, but this scene though truly tugs at the heartstrings and I became teary eyed. Strange how fictional works can invoke powerful emotions to arise to the surface. Great job with this story HoYo.

@@DraceEmpressa Funnily enough Amber Lee (Focalor/Furina) voiced I-no from Guilty Gear Strive. A character who was a normal human girl that was cursed with immortality, became a God, was killed, and left a human version of herself from another timeline.
@@jessquiatchon2204 I was also focused on the fact Focalor, dressed in white, barefooted, a water element performer, dancing in a water surrounded opera for a water dragon, telling the dragon to live on his own after manipulating said dragon to recover his rightful throne, and perish after the performance, It reminds me to Azura from fire emblem. Focallette is basically Azurrin without the incest.
Damn... You guys made a good point. In Tales of Berseria, his character, Artorius, sacrificed his wife and unborn child ... Then later his brother and sister in laws, (as well as basically his humanity) for people to gain the ability to fight back against the daemons and bring peace to the world. I would also mention him as Adult NieR in Neir Replicant, but that would be spoilers. Let's just say that the sacrifice thing is still VERY strong in his role there as well.
I did this whole quest in 1 sitting yesterday because I was so hooked, I never realized how long it was! I was surprised that this section was 18 mins, and the traveler saw Furina's thoughts in between so added up it's probably ~25 mins? Not to mention, the previous part with the trial and then the whale coming out and Childe fighting it, there wasn't really a pause between these scenes so it was pretty much 1 hr straight.
Can we please acknowledge Amber Lee Conners being absolutely insane in this double, perhaps triple, role? Triple for embodying Focalors, playful Furina and broken Furina. That these distinct voice lines are all voiced by the same person, with immense feeling, is almost ridiculous.
She knew what needed to be done and set forth to do it perfectly... I was crying during this whole scene - especially when Neuvilette cried She trusted him with everything and he kept his word, and set Fontaine free... This nation's story surpassed in every aspect. I knew it was going to be my favorite, and it is.
That last dance.... powerful, awesome scene. The sword a.k.a. the madame guillotine even follows her as she tiptoes her forthcoming death. Director deserves a raise!

I don''t have strong feelings towards fictional characters, so I never hated Furina, but I did find her very annoying. I figured that it was intentional, and that she was being bratty on purpose, but it was still irritating. I'm just glad that Furina doesn't have to act that way anymore.
Yeah, I remember saying when I started the Archon quest, "Uh, Furina is kinda... just out there." At the end, she may be my favorite character. I have a friend that I think is going to get absolutely WRECKED by this scene. Moreso the revelation of what Furina dealt with; basically, the complements to these scenes that the Traveler witnesses.
I love this archon quest with every detail in it. The plot twist when the oratrice gave Furina death sentence is one of the best in genshin, but what really hit me was when she realised no body trusted her and all wanted her to die, but didn't say a word, not "I did all this for you" she just sat there, crying. She kept playing her role till the very end. I can't imagine how lonely she felt or the pain she had to deal with. like gosh this quest was literally perfect I couldn't imagine a better archon quest for fountain, I wish I can play it again fir the firsy time
Neuvillette flying up into the sky after Focalors' death is one of the most powerful moments in any media I have ever witnessed. The way the music swells, his expression, it's almost as if you can really feel that power, the change of the tides... like nothing in Teyvat will ever be the same after that moment. Now with Neuvillette's voice lines and the dialogue at the end of the Lantern Rite where Zhongli avoids him, it really feels like shit is getting real.
Welp, here's my opinion when I see the Archons: Venti: Still Archon, but he doesn't want to change into Archon form because he secretly retired, saved Mondstadt few times and stayed as human, he wants wine btw... Zhongli: Still Archon but not in Dragon and Archon form, he gave up and retire, but he has contract power, mostly he didn't help traveler, Millelith, and others during chaos, except he help sometimes when it's on event and/or most of important to him (probably) Ei: Probably Archon, Still puppet form in outside, still staying in Eternal realm, sometimes she go outside if there's good one, and finally abolish the vision hunt degree so many nation can go to Inazuma and no more war... Nahida: Real Archon of Sumeru, the former Sumeru Archon is erased, so she's the only Archon only exists than remembering old one... And still, DON'T LET HER DIE!!! *PTSD INTENSIFIES, hearing Nahida JP VA reminds Teri Teri from Honkai Impact and she die in some point* Furina: Became Human, Focalor is dead but Focalor didn't erased herself like Rukkhadevata but made a ultimate sacrifice for Fontaine... the natlanian Archon isn’t murata, as it was stated in lore that only Venti and Zhongli are the original archons of their nations, so it may be someone random or even Vanessa, free from her “stay” (imprisonment) on Celestia. The Tsaritsa is the only archon we have seen who is alluded to have changed what she was the Archon of, or at least turned her back on it. She was the Archon of Love, but hardened her heart to save her people. She is also (alongside Focalors apparently) one of the only Archons who is directly opposed to Celestia and their Heavenly Principles.
I wonder if hoyoverse will still have her in art with the other archons, or if they only did that at first to throw us off. I hope so! Also, would The Seven now be The Six since Focalors destroyed her throne?

i love her character cause she is basically an “absurd hero” coined by albert camus. while she had to play the role of an archon for the whole 500 years she was basically sisyphus in rolling the boulder up the mountain every single day without knowing when it’ll stop and she had to continue day after day. she had to roll up a boulder every single day never reaching the end at the top at the day and had to keep it up for her nation. while do alors is like zeus and the greek gods who cursed sisyphus. how funny that albert camus is also french, albeit french algerian, it’s like mihoyo got inspiration from him to create an absurd hero.
I was bawling my eyes out like I was about to die. I then spent millions upon millions of mora and even primos to fully farm everything needed for Furina in hopes that maybe I could feel better after realizing Focalor was forever gone. Such a sweet soul she was. Rest in peace, god of justice.

Neuvilette looks so lonely, hovering alone after giving his veridic to Fontain, it's like saying that he's all alone now, with Furina now being a human and may eventually die off in the future....reminds me of Zhongli in some sense
A small detail, but props to them for making an actual unique model for Focalors as opposed to Rukkadevata, who just used Nahida's model to speak to her. It helps set the two apart more as separate people (but with the similar head to remind us they're two halves of one person), especially for such an important scene, even if we don't see Focalors for long.
Venti lost his bard friend, zhongli lost his lover, Ei lost her sister, nahida lost her former incarnation, and furina lost her true form of focalors. At this point, this may hint that the other 2 archons lost or are about to lose something close to them. Murata might/has lost the thing she has strived or had an ambition towards. Then the tsaritsa has lost the faith and love from her people due the damage from to her and the fatui's plans on rebellion against celestia because of what happened 500 years ago
Given how the Tsaritsa is collecting the remains of the third descender, her goal must be a step above Focalors' - not to destroy the divine throne but to fight Celestia. Also, it would be funny if Murata losses her nation

I love Focalor's detachment when she talks. Despite the little characterization she receives, the inhuman morality is not hidden. I'm glad they didn't follow the pure, kind-hearted anime maiden trope. Like, pureness and good intentions don't mean you will behave in a good manner. There is this subtle lack of empathy that reminds you we are not dealing with a human.
Focalor is the "divinity" aspect of the hydro archon which does lack any human components so her demeanor tracks. Ngl, there are times where her matter-of-fact tone was pissing me off especially when she was talking about Furina's suffering. In the end though, she righted wrongs as such as one that embodies justice.
@@IIC7IMO, its just like Neuvilette's "inability to cry" aspect, its like, they both do feel emotions, its just that it's been hidden under layers of divinity.
The difference between the two is that we've known Neuvilette a bit longer than Focalors, so we can "read" him a bit better, while for Focalors we need to extrapolate from what she's said and done, as well as consider Furina (since Focalors and Furina are rhe same person).
I feel like Focalors needed to detach herself emotionally from the situation to carry out her will in order to have a chance to deceive the Heavenly Principles. We know memories can be hidden from the Heavenly Principles underlying the world (such as how Nahida "backed up" the memory of Scaramouche), so in a similar vein, Focalors needed to compartmentalize her own feelings from her actions to outwardly conform to the prophecy.

You can also see it in nahida. Since she's the embodiment of wisdom, she will pursue something that is not in her knowledge almost no matter what it cost.

She REALLY believed in Neuvillette so much that she decided to go with this plan. She invited him to take on the role of the Iudex, HOPING that he would understand the ways of humans and sympathize with them enough to 'forgive' their sins. If Neu got his power back and decided to 'nope' out of all of this, her plan is doomed.
At the end of the day, the Seven Dragons weren’t evil or malicious beings, simply distant from humanity. After 400 years of seeing the worst of humanity, and the best, the fact he didn’t damn them is quite telling of how perhaps the dragons are better gods than the “gods” installed by celestia
I mean even the gods in the throne of the archon, they're better than the gods in celestia. If in the beginning the heavenly principles didn't stole dragon sovereign power&throne, they will live side to side till this day. Since their purpose is same, to live peacefully.
And there will be no sacrifices needed, like imagine rukha, makoto, and every other dead character(the long live one)still alive till now. Oh what a dream...
It's not that she had any other choice. In the end, this convoluted, extremely risky gambl that relying not only on Fontainians giving Neuvilette a sense of empathy, but also on Furina's extreme mental fortitude to keep acting and deceiving, was the best "deal" she got. Even she complained about this deal, which to be honest, was extremely unfair, especially considering the Hypocrisy of Celestia of punishing Egeria and the Fontainians of the same sin they've commited against the Dragons. The fact the Narwhal behind it was just someone's "pet", which is probably a similar attitude Rhinedottir might have had with other abyssal beings like Elynas and Durin, show how even more unfair it is, given these matters treated like nothing by people beyond this world.
I imagine if she met Traveller's sibling right after she got the archon title, she could've come with something different. For example, entering the Abyss Order's Loom of Fate plan.

Focalors’ bow after the dance looks like she’s sticking her neck out for the guillotine to fall. I couldn’t breath when the entire cutscene was playing out. The storytelling was so amazing.

They both are the God of justice. "Existence" was Egeria's justice, and "Continuation" is Focalors' justice. It's kinda similar to the God of Eternity, the Raiden twins. "Transience" was Makoto's Eternity, and "Stasis" was Ei's Eternity which she later changed, of course.

Except for Focalor, the rest of the archons died because of the humans themselves, because of their arrogance, because of their greed, and because of the use of the abyss.
And it is these same people who seek to destroy Teyvat and not Celestia, who, no matter how incredible you seem, has never done anything bad, never said anything bad.
Even the focalor thing is more the fault of the oceanids themselves for using energies that at some point the teyvat itself would claim.
And if the dragons died by their own hand, it was not Celestia who brought the war to them but they brought the war to Celestia, only because of the arrogance of wanting something that they surely lost fairly.

To clear up the confusion Focalars and Furina were once the same person. However, they split into two one being “divinity” and the other “humanity”. Essentially becoming two halves of the same coin with different “faces” this case that being personalities. So technically Furina dispite not being divine she is still technically Focalars in human flesh the “former” hydro archon. Just without the power and memories. Similar to Nahida and rukkadevata situation specifically in which they are essentially the same person but just with different personalities and experiences and Raiden for that fact as well. Furina possibly holds some sort of residual power from Focalars. Given she is the only character that can wield both Arke energies. That even Neuvillte can’t wield together.
Now that Focalars sacrificed herself Furina is now free from her curse and can live her life as human which is what Focalars wanted to do in the first place. In addition Neuvillte is now the true hydro sovereign he is not the archon. The seat of the hydro archon is now destroyed meaning there can’t be a hydro archon unless celestia somehow interferes which is very possible. Since celesta wants 7 gods to exist as there representatives to display power and authority over tevyat. Fontaine is now free of that authority and now it is another “Khanera”. So Furina or someone else could technically re-gain that power either by choice or against their will by the heavenly principles themselves.
Also Neuvillte technically can’t be the archon even if he wanted to bc the heavenly principles won’t allow the very thing they destroyed(The original Dragon Sovereigns) to sit next to them or represent them. Nor would Neuvillte even would want to become an archon given he dislikes celesta already. So instead of there being the seven archons it’s now six as of late. Focalars gave celestia the fattest screw you to date. But, it will eventually come back to bite Fontaine in the end. As of what we know every civilization that has went against, and or not follow a direct god established and accepted by of the heavenly principles have all ended in curses or destroyed entirely leaving only echos. It is only 4.2 there are still a handful of updates that haven’t taken place yet. I don’t think Furina, Fontaine, and Neuvillte or done just yet. Even Focalars for that matter we have seen gods revived. Can’t wait for the rest of story to play out.

I feel so sorry for furina. She is a human and unlike Neuv who mostly stay indoor, she loves to go out and see people, and through 500 years she must have seen so many human she knew passing away. Throughout that amount of time she has to continue wearing a mask and lies. There isn't anyone she can truly trust because she knows they would turn against her once they found out.
The amount of stress she must feel during that trial, having everyone she thought would be her support turning against her and thinking that all she has done for the past 500 years to save everyone are all going down the drain must be so scary. I don't know how she didn't turn crazy and even find courage to heal during her story quest. Even after that incident, some people are still blaming her. I suppose Focalors counts her as another version of herself because otherwise it's not a fair/just deal at all for furina.
There is something I don't have very clear, for what they still blame Furina? The citizens of Fontaine doesn't know the truth about Focalors plan and the roll Furina had?

That's the annoying part. They see Furina as "the Archon who did nothing" as if she did not have the greatest contribution and sacrifice for the wellbeing of them all. How absurd. Fountain story quest is the best so far, not saying that other region story is not good enough, but this is too epic. I can feel the improvement for the writing, and adding to that the voice actor did really good job. I can feel that we nearly approaching climax of the teyvat story. I'm glad i can be part of this community and witnessing this masterpiece, and i hope i can see it until the end.
Agree, but I think the boss part was kinda weak, like there isn't any scene there, neuvillette just says "im sharing my power with you" and in some seconds done, yes they show skirk and lore bombs drop, but nothing too epic, then rescue the people from water etc, I think it would have been much cooler if they were fighting the whale, they would be loosing or close it without any hope, and then furina using the oratrice or something to give neuvilette and later traveler the powerup, or epic line drop like in sumeru, I think in this nation the traveler didn't even get a nickname or tittle like previous ones, and furina kinda dissappears from the quest after that, if I couldn't do her quest after that I would feel so empty (also thought they would make her getting a vision a epic part of the main story, but guess it fits with her not being a fighter, also had a crazy idea where everyone actually dies and turns into water, and then furina somehow with the vision or temporal archon powers "resurrects" them, but rip) Still enjoy it a lot tho

And yeah, without Furina's story quest you're kind of left feeling empty like something important is missing regarding her immediately following the Archon quest. I can sort of understand having it split up though since both the Archon quest by itself was already ridiculously long and the story quest does give a bit of a better chance to focus on the main star of Fontaine.

Same. When the update came out, i watched the cutscenes on youtube. When focalors said “hydro dragon, hydro dragon, don’t cry”, i was deeply saddened, but i didnt cry. I got on later that day to play the quest. But even before she said it, i was crying. I was bawling my eyes out, begging her not to say it, begging the game not to kill her. I uses to think furina was annoying, but now i feel deeply terrible for her and for the 186,000 days she had to endure without being able to pursue happiness. 186,000 days of keeping up the lie, not knowing when it could stop.
And i feel terrible for focalors, she always wanted to walk the world and experience humanity. In the end, she never got that.

This scene was so damn HEAVY. The music, the drama, the sacrifice, the deceit, the insanity, and the love of a god for her peoples. As a grown man it’s rare for me to cry, but this scene though truly tugs at the heartstrings and I became teary eyed. Strange how fictional works can invoke powerful emotions to arise to the surface. Great job with this story HoYo.

I would also mention him as Adult NieR in Neir Replicant, but that would be spoilers. Let's just say that the sacrifice thing is still VERY strong in his role there as well.

I did this whole quest in 1 sitting yesterday because I was so hooked, I never realized how long it was! I was surprised that this section was 18 mins, and the traveler saw Furina's thoughts in between so added up it's probably ~25 mins? Not to mention, the previous part with the trial and then the whale coming out and Childe fighting it, there wasn't really a pause between these scenes so it was pretty much 1 hr straight.

I don''t have strong feelings towards fictional characters, so I never hated Furina, but I did find her very annoying. I figured that it was intentional, and that she was being bratty on purpose, but it was still irritating. I'm just glad that Furina doesn't have to act that way anymore.
Yeah, I remember saying when I started the Archon quest, "Uh, Furina is kinda... just out there."
At the end, she may be my favorite character. I have a friend that I think is going to get absolutely WRECKED by this scene. Moreso the revelation of what Furina dealt with; basically, the complements to these scenes that the Traveler witnesses.

I love this archon quest with every detail in it. The plot twist when the oratrice gave Furina death sentence is one of the best in genshin, but what really hit me was when she realised no body trusted her and all wanted her to die, but didn't say a word, not "I did all this for you" she just sat there, crying. She kept playing her role till the very end. I can't imagine how lonely she felt or the pain she had to deal with. like gosh this quest was literally perfect I couldn't imagine a better archon quest for fountain, I wish I can play it again fir the firsy time
Neuvillette flying up into the sky after Focalors' death is one of the most powerful moments in any media I have ever witnessed. The way the music swells, his expression, it's almost as if you can really feel that power, the change of the tides... like nothing in Teyvat will ever be the same after that moment. Now with Neuvillette's voice lines and the dialogue at the end of the Lantern Rite where Zhongli avoids him, it really feels like shit is getting real.
Welp, here's my opinion when I see the Archons:
Venti: Still Archon, but he doesn't want to change into Archon form because he secretly retired, saved Mondstadt few times and stayed as human, he wants wine btw...
Zhongli: Still Archon but not in Dragon and Archon form, he gave up and retire, but he has contract power, mostly he didn't help traveler, Millelith, and others during chaos, except he help sometimes when it's on event and/or most of important to him (probably)
Ei: Probably Archon, Still puppet form in outside, still staying in Eternal realm, sometimes she go outside if there's good one, and finally abolish the vision hunt degree so many nation can go to Inazuma and no more war...
Nahida: Real Archon of Sumeru, the former Sumeru Archon is erased, so she's the only Archon only exists than remembering old one... And still, DON'T LET HER DIE!!! *PTSD INTENSIFIES, hearing Nahida JP VA reminds Teri Teri from Honkai Impact and she die in some point*
Furina: Became Human, Focalor is dead but Focalor didn't erased herself like Rukkhadevata but made a ultimate sacrifice for Fontaine... Furina is Human and not Archon...

the natlanian Archon isn’t murata, as it was stated in lore that only Venti and Zhongli are the original archons of their nations, so it may be someone random or even Vanessa, free from her “stay” (imprisonment) on Celestia.
The Tsaritsa is the only archon we have seen who is alluded to have changed what she was the Archon of, or at least turned her back on it. She was the Archon of Love, but hardened her heart to save her people. She is also (alongside Focalors apparently) one of the only Archons who is directly opposed to Celestia and their Heavenly Principles.
Raidens second story quest seems to elude to Ei being more present in the puppet.

i love her character cause she is basically an “absurd hero” coined by albert camus. while she had to play the role of an archon for the whole 500 years she was basically sisyphus in rolling the boulder up the mountain every single day without knowing when it’ll stop and she had to continue day after day. she had to roll up a boulder every single day never reaching the end at the top at the day and had to keep it up for her nation. while do alors is like zeus and the greek gods who cursed sisyphus. how funny that albert camus is also french, albeit french algerian, it’s like mihoyo got inspiration from him to create an absurd hero.

A small detail, but props to them for making an actual unique model for Focalors as opposed to Rukkadevata, who just used Nahida's model to speak to her. It helps set the two apart more as separate people (but with the similar head to remind us they're two halves of one person), especially for such an important scene, even if we don't see Focalors for long.

Venti lost his bard friend, zhongli lost his lover, Ei lost her sister, nahida lost her former incarnation, and furina lost her true form of focalors. At this point, this may hint that the other 2 archons lost or are about to lose something close to them. Murata might/has lost the thing she has strived or had an ambition towards. Then the tsaritsa has lost the faith and love from her people due the damage from to her and the fatui's plans on rebellion against celestia because of what happened 500 years ago
