Furina and Focalor are some of the best archons we have seen so far. They gave up the biggest things that someone has to save their people from something neither their people or themselves did. Focalor gave up her live, and Furina gave up her own self to protect them and save them from being water.
@@ruter3001 I think it's not spoiler anymore. You can write it freely. Even you can click profile of Furina you can see that she has not Gnosis. This is why she is so weak compares the other archons. Also at Character select screen she has no animation of hydro bubbles etc. She is flat human.

Sure the magic kept her alive, but the mental strength was all her own. Except Venti, he just wants to talk to her since she is a great actor.
Given the context we have now, I understand why Furina was so eager to “duel” the Traveler from the minute we get to Fontaine. She heard of the Traveler’s deeds across the nations and believed they may be the one who will grant her the grand trial. So provoking a duel wasn’t her trying to make an enemy of us, but a desperate attempt to finally get the trial she’s been waiting 500 years for😢
ah that's a good point. She was hoping that was the final grand trial but it was a major turning point that set off a chain of events coming to the end. So her challenging the Traveler when he set foot in Fontaine was a big brain move.
Even when facing the trial against herself, despite her initial shock she seemed almost quietly enthusiastic, basically admitting her failures at saving the people before the trial even started. She thought (reasonably) that being tried for her failure could be the trial she was waiting for. Only, to her horror, the trial suddenly became about the one thing that truly threatened her.
There is a tragic yet devious beauty to Furina’s actual trial. Focalors probably DID account for that having to happen, but Furina *had* to be set up to fail (without Furina knowing it) for the plan to happen. I could point out the oddity of how Focalors figured 500 years was enough, but that minor detail aside, that the plan actually worked meant Furina had to play her part in the script to the very end - including being unmasked in a trial.
Furina was basically the quote: "The fake is of far greater value. In its deliberate attempt to be real, it's more real than the real thing". She is amazing.
Furina may not be the archon, but she was definitely without a doubt deserved the title. For 500 fucking years she put up with with suffering just so there could be a way to save her nation. And in the end she did. She deserved happiness
Furina might not have had the divinity, but she was the humanity half of Focalors, which is good enough for me to call her an archon, even if the throne no longer exists.

I just realized Furina attended almost every single trials at opera, hoping that will be the "magnificent and dramatic trial" she have been promised. And she did get one at the end...
The saddest part is that during the "flashback" reenactment, there's literally "no one" in the whole theater. It really feels hollow. And she lived that through for 500 years.

Nah man, Fontainians be wildin' while holding life changing trials inside an Opera House publicly for everyone to see. (No wonder some people choose to stay at Meropide, even though there's no sunlight.) They were all living the life to the fullest while Furina here kept pretending to be something she's not, all to save these wild people.
I just realised - the prophecy states 'only the Hydro Archon will remain, weeping on her throne', and it's mentioned that the prophecy is the only thing truly 'real'. And in the last cutscene, Furina is shown weeping on the throne. Furina was considered the Hydro Archon here, despite just being the humanity of Focalors. It basically proves that she was truly worthy of that title. I'm really glad she's finally been relieved of her loneliness after those 500 years, the quest made me tear up 😭
I really hated all the people that tricked furina at the courthouse 😡🤬 even though they didn't know anything but it still hurts seeing furina suffer even more the desperation she had was heartbreaking.

On the other hand in JP version she sounds 'normal' in this scene. Only when NPC asked question about tears you see that her 'mask' is perfect but her mind/subconsciousness not so much.

This is refreshing. Feels like this is the 1st main quest where the nation was saved by it's archon and we only played a supporting role in the events that happened in Fontaine. Wish Furina was given enough closure to make us feel fulfilled with the resolution. It felt like we only made things difficult for her till the end.
Furina/Focalor and Nahida are without the doubt the only archons that actually cared about their people. Nahida was helpless to do anything for people until the Traveler came, Furina/Focalor suffered for the people.
Which is very funny, because in the beginning of the game, Venti was already saving Mondstadt when the Traveler showed up and screwd everything by scaring Dvalin again.

You can see the emotional suffering Furina endured from being able to honestly smile to not even realizing she was in tears until it was pointed out to her..this may have been just as cruel if not worse than what happened to Nahida..Nahida was Physically imprisoned but through dreams she could still be herself..Furina however was always being watched she wasn't allowed to slip up not once for centuries else everything would've been vain. In the end to Furina all of her efforts were in vain until the prophecy had an unexpected outcome. But in the end was all that suffering and emotional torture truly worth it only to grow old and die alone and essentially hated by so many of the people she was trying to save? This reminds me of one of those ancient greek tragedies that we'd hear about in school...this was a tale of Sacrifice nothing more nothing less.
She isn't hated. People still like her they just don't worship her. She might be able to make friends and not die alone. After all nevileyte will always be her friend.
her story quest also quite sad imo, traveler, paimon, and many other charas should be apologized to her for what they did in trial, especially us and neuvi who finally know her sacrificed, but yeah, paimon is being paimon :D
Mf thinks there's a suffering competition between the gods so he decided to down level Nahida. Bro, I empathize Furina's situation but Nahida is just as tragic. She may be virtually "free" but she was literally ignored by everyone, despised by the sages and imprisoned for simply being born.
That's true, but at least she was able to interact with her people as herself. But Yes Both Nahida and Furina have been treated seriously horrificly by humanity in different aspects one lived a lie of mental and emotional suffering while the other wasn't even allowed the basics that most of us take for granted.Nahida's situation was even worse than that of a slave, at least a slave is acknowledged as "Property" or a "Tool" but Nahida wasn't even worth the premise of "Existance" that's straight up cruel. Furina was forced to be someone she wasn't forced to wear a mask without any end in sight and never being allowed to drop the facade knowing full well if she did everyone around her would instantly die. That's like holding a live Grenade in a populated crowd and dropping it won't end well. Both situations are straight up in-humane Tragedies brought about my Humanity's misconceptions of what a God "SHOULD" be like rather than what they see themselves as. Even as a Prisoner Nahida still tried to help her people. Furina had to do it with all eyes on her constantly these two oddly parallel each other like Yin & Yang both a twisted reflection of human cruelty (ironic in the Fontainian's case). I LOVE her story, she is an amazing character. To think that at the start we all thought she was just a spoiled brat, in the end she was sacrificing everything for the sake of others. All that suffering and no one to share her secret with, no one to confide in. 500 eternal years.
No one to confide in about her secret, but at least Neuvillette was there with her as the years passed by. It must have been painful seeing people come and ago, but those two were at least together through time

The Unseen Sacrifice is of course my favorite part of the Archon Quest, just the story alone is perfect, Sure the prophecy was kind of a waste however it could been true if it wasn't for Focalors' sacrifice, learning the prophecy alone and story about how most of the fontainians are Oceanids, even Focalors is just a mind blowing thing.
I think the prophecy isn't used as an unavoidable fate in Genshin, rather it's used to reinforce one thing: As long as a prophecy goes through all the important beats, it matters not how it happens. Some things would inevitably happen (Primordial Sea rising, Fontaine suffers a flood), but how it happened may be changed to something that has some possibility, no matter how low, to be managed (The Narwhal).
So wait Furina is like part human and oceanid😭 that's kinda cool. I kinda understood that she was like a human form of the real hydro archon. She was human but also was kinda not at the same time. She was a human part of conciseness of the hydro archon?
Honestly, when the water receded and everyone started chanting “the prophecy was wrong”, it would’ve been heartwarming to see Neuvillette descend upon Furina and tell her “No, you saved us all”.

Everyone will be saved...that maybe the darkest white lie Focalor could've told Furina..yeah every Fontainian was saved but herself and Furina...one met with tragedy while the other suffered trauma tremendously at the mental and emotional level for half a millennia.. only to be villainized and referred to as a useless failure, a "Clown" sitting on a make believe throne. This was a truly cruel path Focalor layed out for Furina.

Everything might go according to Focalors's plan - so that the Oratrice can display a guilty verdict and thus, death sentence herself, but it's still a betrayal from people closest to Furina. I haven't played her story quest yet and don't know how exactly the public react with Furina being human or how she may bluff her way (again) to pass through this "not archon" crisis and more importantly, the death sentence that's already executed but not known by public, but this trial really put Furina's future in an extra hard mode with too many unnecessary dramas and problems that none's considerate enough to reach out and help Furina the same way they poke their nose into the grand trial of "our god". The prophecy is over, yes, but the reputation of Furina, however, is on the verge collapse all thank to this trial, this is the only think that has been weighing on my mind and demanding a happy ending.

@@YugiAmane-rr9tn I do agree that Neuvillette is still too inexperienced to bear the full responsibility of the Hydro Sovereign in place of Furina - who can quickly read the atmosphere and act a whole new impromptu performance so that her people can alway rest assure, he is still too aloof with human emotion and won't be able to fill in the demand for reassurance like Furina did. However, he's a man of responsibility, his action speaks louder than word, so it's not like these's no hope. If you don't trust Neuvillette, then trust Wriothesley and his faith in the Iudex instead. His way of doing is too straight forward that it will undoubtedly hurt people, and in this case, Neuvillette and co. want to force Furina to speak, so they proceed with the trial plan without taking into consideration what will happen AFTER the trial that they hold and completely shatter Furina's reputation. As someone who had accompanied her for a couple of centuries, Neuvillette should be the one to stop this plan, not back up this plan. The traveler, in the other hand, knows little about the true situation of Fontaine and only know the urgent matters, so they jump to conclusion and lend a helping hand to this disaster - which is definitely can be written in another less inconsiderate way. Anyway, back to Neuvillette. In your opinion, Neuvillette doesn't deserve full authority, then treat it as a point of no return and await new story to unfold then. This outcome could be the best that could happen, or just something that work at that moment, or the only solution that work, but remember that imperfective/unsatisfied story is a story too. Bad things could happen in real life and in story, we know, we read, we hear and then we judge it differently, that's why each human is an autonomous and independent individual. We definitely can hate a character for something that the majority of other players can tolerate or don't realize ;)

I cried watching this scene while playing the quest last night and I'm crying again right now. This scene broke me. I have Bipolar, so I've had my share of days of just sitting on the edge of my bed or just laying on the floor, wishing life would just pass me by. Existence is tiring. The only thing worse than not being able to speak with someone, is when you do tell them and they don't understand your struggle. (Note: I have a Therapist and I'm on meds. I'm nothing like I was a decade ago.) Watching someone be sad or depressed isn't what gets you; it's when they are grieving. And that is exactly what Furina is doing. She is grief stricken for the life she never had. All of this coming from a "silly" F2P gacha game. May wonders never cease.
I know what you mean… I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder in my late teens, and I’ve been on meds for almost half a decade now. When I first watched that scene, it really broke me. Existence is sometimes quite exhausting for me, so I can’t imagine how she must’ve felt after going through all that and now having anyone to talk to about her struggles. When I first played the game years ago, I thought it was just going to be a nice game with a decent story to back it up (just like how most gacha games are), but Genshin’s really outdone it this time! Sumeru’s story made me tear up but Fontaine really takes the cake.
My one of my cousins died this week by an aneurysm, and I knew that 2 days after complete AQ Furina mision, it was devastating, seeing her for one last time in her funeral.
Yeah. I have Bipolar with a decent pile of trauma, and watching Furina… I can’t even begin to imagine her pain. I felt it deep in my heart, that crushing feeling of hopelessness. “Am I ever going to get better? Am I always going to feel like this? Nobody understands how I feel… How do I even explain how it feels? Will anyone care? Will it even help?” I have medication now, I’ve been going to therapy, and life has been getting better and better every year. It’s still hard, I slip back occasionally, but the trend line is clear ❤
I loved this quest so much and my appreciation of Furina went from 100 to 10000000, I was MAD that we couldn't talk to Furina after it though, and I don't think any characters except Neuvillette I think, checked up on her
Traveller especially -Traveller fully knows the tortued existence she had but .. she's not important any more so she's left on her own with no help or comfort.
When Furina hesitated if she could tell traveler the truth, but then she told herself to not be selfish and decided to keep up the act, I FUCKING CRIED! She didn’t have any clue of who she truly is or what Focalor was doing, she put up the act just cause she wanted to save the people. She couldn’t tell a single soul about it. 500 fucking years she suffered all alone. And the way she was being treated by her own people. Everyone owes a big apology to Furina. She deserves the world. Furina is my archon.
When you think about it, Furina is one of the most selfless people in all of Teyvat. She literally gave up her freedom for 500 years without telling anyone, Had to deal with things that she didn’t know how to do because she didn’t have the archon power. She even has a line that goes like “come on Furina, Maybe it’ll be alright to put yourself first for this one time?” That trauma must of been hell to her.
Furina's current situation could be mirrored to that of someone who has Schizo/ADHD/PTSD and masking it's effects so that everything looks "normal" until everything cracks and all goes up in flames, now imagine doing that for 500 years
When her eyes twitching in the middle of crying while having a conversation with her fan kinda broke it for me, she is already reach insanity at that point and it's not helping that the last trial was just us blaming her for everything
Would be interesting to get a therapist take on someone that's spent 500 something years fully focused on her job role to finally be freed from it. How do you break the mental cycle and move on with out going completely insane or deep depression or both.
I was forced to work 11 years in a job which hated since the 1st day, was so hard to adapt me there. I needed the money and never quit either to lose my years of services , I left that job via syndicate, I felt free and cried in happiness 😢 My escape happened while this game was in the 2.8/3.0 patch, the music of GAA/Sumeru was my kind of therapy.
Not a therapist, but I do have some knowledge (and its also touched on later in Furina's story). Eventually you would sort of become the part you are playing, since it is the only version of you that you display. Sort of like the persona you are using just takes hold over the others. After that you would just kind of have nothing since you might not even know who you really are at that point. Or you would just go insane considering a more realistic view of a normal human doing so. When it comes to Furina its a little different since she was made to feel what humans felt and experience life as a human, so she didnt really have a real self before getting these instructions, she just had the wonder of wanting to be human and experience life, so the only conflicting feeling she has is that she has to let no one know, let no one see that its all an act. So the fact she isolated herself out of the fear of not revealing the truth that she didnt even know about was the only option she might have thought of, as she might have still been able to have more personal interactions without giving up the truth, but that comes from knowing more about people. The fact she was able to keep the act up, and not go insane or lose her own sense of self shows not only her acting ability, but her immense willpower. The other archons even comment as much, that even as a human she was able to pull this off. Raiden Shogun particularly states as much given how she also locked herself in battle for 500 years, but what Furina did was far harder.
15:39 the acting is amazing, you can clearly hear that furina is forcing herself to laugh, even if she's crying. That scene was maybe the most emotional scene in all of genshin impact
30:54 Not gonna lie, I found this scene kinda emotional personally. I don't know why. Seeing Furina cry while Fontaine (as well as all of Teyvat considering where Fontaine is, especially in terms of elevation) floods, the endless sea with Navia getting the survivors followed by Wriothesley with his flying ship, the Skyship Wingalet, doing the same, the waters receding and seeing people be happy that they didn't dissolve, claiming the prophecy was wrong (Furina especially), accompanied by the music... It made me tear up a bit honestly. This...whirlwind of events really was something. It was like a test that you were destined to fail, but also were destined to pass if something or someone were to change. Also, I dunno why, but this cutscene reminded me of the ending of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 which was kind of similar to it. I won't spoil it for those who haven't played the game (or decided to watch a playthrough of it), but there is a similar-ish approach in my opinion.

I remember everyone was trying to figure out if it was Furina crying or not, since I believe it was after the missing persons trial. God the foreshadowing in this whole entire Archon Quest was f:cking legendary
When i played this i think the prophecy did happened in such context, after everyone turned their backs to furina, and furina screaming to neuvelette, traveler and everyone else that she was the hydro archon and when no one believe her and she sat on her chair defeated. It feels like its somewhat the prophecy. Furina sitting on the throne weeping, alone, with everyone abandoning her.
Ironic how much the Community Hated Furina/Focalors are also the one who Sacrificed their life to save their people and not to mention she didn’t need Traveler to do their Job 💀
That whole conversation she held with that descendant of one of her earliest followers is so harrowing despite its brevity. Comprehend just however many years it's been since she chose to take up the mantle. Twenty generations of this line she's seen come and go as she's acted out her role. And here she is, face to face with their newest descendant, and all of a sudden the enormity of just how much time she's spent in this position crashes down upon her and perhaps in that moment she almost breaks, but she can't. Even if her emotions escape her, this too must be part of the facade. She is a god, and she must act as such, for that is what the plan demands. Even her pain is part of the show.
24:04 Hearing her beg before we got all the context was a little cathartic, like watching a fraudster finally get caught and called out. Hearing her beg AFTER receiving the context of her 500 years of loneliness and suffering, and why she even had to pretend to be the Archon, is heartbreaking to the max. She just wanted to save her people and the nation.

Put in a position of authority and extreme responsibility, with no experience and forced day after day to hide that fact for the sake of those under you, bearing the pains of their every struggle and hardship, while yourself having nobody to truly turn to or confide in, day after day, year after year, until the day you might possibly be set free from your obligation to your nation. And all of it underscored by the ever-present idea that one day, the masquerade will shatter like glass, and what little you've built will come crashing down around you. ... and after failing everyone who ever tethered their fates to you, you will find yourself sitting there on your fancy chair, heartbroken... and alone. As a military officer dealing with depression, I respect you more than you could possibly realize, my Lady Furina.

I agree. In the future they should make Neuvillette share his Power with her and make her a Goddess. But this game thinks that being human is the highest gift anyone can reach. You can notice it from what Dainsleif says about humans.
Not going to lie, Hoyoverse has ramped up highly when it comes for their animation team. The scene after flooding where fontainians are being saved from drowning, it was truly well made from the animation team.
Only when Furina perceives herself as having failed will she weep in despair upon the throne, deceiving the heavenly principle. She believes that the judgment she receives, the one she thinks has exposed her, is precisely the grand trial she has yearned for over the past 500 years.
I literally cried during archon and her personal story quest furina and focalor deserve so much love and i was somewhat mad about our traveller because behavior towards furina during quest like after knowing all that still behave like that i would never do that But i got furina and hearing her last ascension i feel good now

She still couldn't find a way to prevent the prophecy from happening. Furina was almost at her breaking point of just giving up. Tbh i actually support the traveler since Furina problem is she kept everything for herself, her inner self really wanted to tell someone about her situation. Though mainly i related Furina pain, telling everyone that i could take care of myself when in reality i dont know what to do anymore and hoping someone could force their way to guide me. So yeah glad now she is free and in her story quest i am glad traveler able to make her more honest to herself

I do not play the game and i wish i do, the months i've stayed of watching behind screens of other peoples videos for the lore and characters themselves, for what i know so far is really cool to me and seeing this just feels like the end i want to see more of furina 😭😭💟

That one scene with the lights in the crowd made me think that the lights represented doubt and the only light that remained was the light on Furina herself
But also, how the traveller only cared of the answers Furina could give rather than her life as a being.. it unsettles me and makes me wonder if we really are the good guys.
After what the Heavenly Principles have put these two and countless others through, they had better be kicked off their thrown and judged for their evil.
For 500 years she suffer for only a chance that her "mirror self" is doing something. And since Furina dont know how long she must act, the moment she was expose must be terifing. She have fail her task, domming Fontain to end, or if it was all imaginary and her "mirror self" was not real(remember, up to that point, people still dissolve in water which mean to Furina, nothing have been done) is what i imagine she was thinking.
I can totally relate to this. I've never been an emotional person, didn't even cry during movies or sad scenes... But Furina backstory hit me in a different way
i cant even fathom the idea of suffering for 500 years, heck even a 100 years is a long ass time. imagine going through all that shit for 500 years while being a human, no power to back it up, no power to prove to the people. All you have is your acting to try to save your nation.
This is the only archon quest that made me cry... the way focalor said "Farewell Neuvillette i hope you've enjoyed the part you played this five hundred years"
Yeah. At the very least, makoto do love ei, yet Makoto's duty as an archon must ensure her people safe, hence she left that burden to her sister. While furina at the first meeting looks like an innocent kid. Yet she work as a Hydro Archon for 500 years to keep people's faith so that the energy from faith unknowingly can be use to kill focalor's divinity to ensure Fontaine survival at the end of prophecy

Furina and Focalor are some of the best archons we have seen so far. They gave up the biggest things that someone has to save their people from something neither their people or themselves did. Focalor gave up her live, and Furina gave up her own self to protect them and save them from being water.

Yes, but given what she did the other archons still consider her one in a way in their voicelines about her. since not just any human could keep the act up for 500 years. Sure the magic kept her alive, but the mental strength was all her own. Except Venti, he just wants to talk to her since she is a great actor.
Given the context we have now, I understand why Furina was so eager to “duel” the Traveler from the minute we get to Fontaine. She heard of the Traveler’s deeds across the nations and believed they may be the one who will grant her the grand trial. So provoking a duel wasn’t her trying to make an enemy of us, but a desperate attempt to finally get the trial she’s been waiting 500 years for😢
ah that's a good point. She was hoping that was the final grand trial but it was a major turning point that set off a chain of events coming to the end. So her challenging the Traveler when he set foot in Fontaine was a big brain move.

Even when facing the trial against herself, despite her initial shock she seemed almost quietly enthusiastic, basically admitting her failures at saving the people before the trial even started. She thought (reasonably) that being tried for her failure could be the trial she was waiting for.
Only, to her horror, the trial suddenly became about the one thing that truly threatened her.

There is a tragic yet devious beauty to Furina’s actual trial. Focalors probably DID account for that having to happen, but Furina *had* to be set up to fail (without Furina knowing it) for the plan to happen.
I could point out the oddity of how Focalors figured 500 years was enough, but that minor detail aside, that the plan actually worked meant Furina had to play her part in the script to the very end - including being unmasked in a trial.
Furina was basically the quote: "The fake is of far greater value. In its deliberate attempt to be real, it's more real than the real thing". She is amazing.

The saddest part is that during the "flashback" reenactment, there's literally "no one" in the whole theater. It really feels hollow. And she lived that through for 500 years.

I just realised - the prophecy states 'only the Hydro Archon will remain, weeping on her throne', and it's mentioned that the prophecy is the only thing truly 'real'. And in the last cutscene, Furina is shown weeping on the throne.
Furina was considered the Hydro Archon here, despite just being the humanity of Focalors. It basically proves that she was truly worthy of that title. I'm really glad she's finally been relieved of her loneliness after those 500 years, the quest made me tear up 😭

On the other hand in JP version she sounds 'normal' in this scene. Only when NPC asked question about tears you see that her 'mask' is perfect but her mind/subconsciousness not so much.

This is refreshing. Feels like this is the 1st main quest where the nation was saved by it's archon and we only played a supporting role in the events that happened in Fontaine. Wish Furina was given enough closure to make us feel fulfilled with the resolution. It felt like we only made things difficult for her till the end.

Furina/Focalor and Nahida are without the doubt the only archons that actually cared about their people. Nahida was helpless to do anything for people until the Traveler came, Furina/Focalor suffered for the people.
Which is very funny, because in the beginning of the game, Venti was already saving Mondstadt when the Traveler showed up and screwd everything by scaring Dvalin again.

You can see the emotional suffering Furina endured from being able to honestly smile to not even realizing she was in tears until it was pointed out to her..this may have been just as cruel if not worse than what happened to Nahida..Nahida was Physically imprisoned but through dreams she could still be herself..Furina however was always being watched she wasn't allowed to slip up not once for centuries else everything would've been vain. In the end to Furina all of her efforts were in vain until the prophecy had an unexpected outcome. But in the end was all that suffering and emotional torture truly worth it only to grow old and die alone and essentially hated by so many of the people she was trying to save? This reminds me of one of those ancient greek tragedies that we'd hear about in school...this was a tale of Sacrifice nothing more nothing less.
She isn't hated. People still like her they just don't worship her. She might be able to make friends and not die alone. After all nevileyte will always be her friend.

Mf thinks there's a suffering competition between the gods so he decided to down level Nahida. Bro, I empathize Furina's situation but Nahida is just as tragic. She may be virtually "free" but she was literally ignored by everyone, despised by the sages and imprisoned for simply being born.
I can feel her story is a parallel to Jesus Christ, destined to be hated by the people they where supposed to save inorder to save them.
That's true, but at least she was able to interact with her people as herself. But Yes Both Nahida and Furina have been treated seriously horrificly by humanity in different aspects one lived a lie of mental and emotional suffering while the other wasn't even allowed the basics that most of us take for granted.Nahida's situation was even worse than that of a slave, at least a slave is acknowledged as "Property" or a "Tool" but Nahida wasn't even worth the premise of "Existance" that's straight up cruel. Furina was forced to be someone she wasn't forced to wear a mask without any end in sight and never being allowed to drop the facade knowing full well if she did everyone around her would instantly die. That's like holding a live Grenade in a populated crowd and dropping it won't end well. Both situations are straight up in-humane Tragedies brought about my Humanity's misconceptions of what a God "SHOULD" be like rather than what they see themselves as. Even as a Prisoner Nahida still tried to help her people. Furina had to do it with all eyes on her constantly these two oddly parallel each other like Yin & Yang both a twisted reflection of human cruelty (ironic in the Fontainian's case). Makes you wonder why bother helping Teyvat's humanity if all they do is spit in their divine faces for either existing or being imperfect? No wonder Zhong-li retired..jkjk

I LOVE her story, she is an amazing character. To think that at the start we all thought she was just a spoiled brat, in the end she was sacrificing everything for the sake of others. All that suffering and no one to share her secret with, no one to confide in. 500 eternal years.
No one to confide in about her secret, but at least Neuvillette was there with her as the years passed by. It must have been painful seeing people come and ago, but those two were at least together through time

The Unseen Sacrifice is of course my favorite part of the Archon Quest, just the story alone is perfect, Sure the prophecy was kind of a waste however it could been true if it wasn't for Focalors' sacrifice, learning the prophecy alone and story about how most of the fontainians are Oceanids, even Focalors is just a mind blowing thing.

I think the prophecy isn't used as an unavoidable fate in Genshin, rather it's used to reinforce one thing: As long as a prophecy goes through all the important beats, it matters not how it happens. Some things would inevitably happen (Primordial Sea rising, Fontaine suffers a flood), but how it happened may be changed to something that has some possibility, no matter how low, to be managed (The Narwhal).
So wait Furina is like part human and oceanid😭 that's kinda cool. I kinda understood that she was like a human form of the real hydro archon. She was human but also was kinda not at the same time. She was a human part of conciseness of the hydro archon?
Honestly, when the water receded and everyone started chanting “the prophecy was wrong”, it would’ve been heartwarming to see Neuvillette descend upon Furina and tell her “No, you saved us all”.

This was a truly cruel path Focalor layed out for Furina.

27:12 I still think that at least the Traveler and Neuvillette own Furina an apology. Everything might go according to Focalors's plan - so that the Oratrice can display a guilty verdict and thus, death sentence herself, but it's still a betrayal from people closest to Furina. I haven't played her story quest yet and don't know how exactly the public react with Furina being human or how she may bluff her way (again) to pass through this "not archon" crisis and more importantly, the death sentence that's already executed but not known by public, but this trial really put Furina's future in an extra hard mode with too many unnecessary dramas and problems that none's considerate enough to reach out and help Furina the same way they poke their nose into the grand trial of "our god". The prophecy is over, yes, but the reputation of Furina, however, is on the verge collapse all thank to this trial, this is the only think that has been weighing on my mind and demanding a happy ending.

@@YugiAmane-rr9tn I do agree that Neuvillette is still too inexperienced to bear the full responsibility of the Hydro Sovereign in place of Furina - who can quickly read the atmosphere and act a whole new impromptu performance so that her people can alway rest assure, he is still too aloof with human emotion and won't be able to fill in the demand for reassurance like Furina did. However, he's a man of responsibility, his action speaks louder than word, so it's not like these's no hope. If you don't trust Neuvillette, then trust Wriothesley and his faith in the Iudex instead.
His way of doing is too straight forward that it will undoubtedly hurt people, and in this case, Neuvillette and co. want to force Furina to speak, so they proceed with the trial plan without taking into consideration what will happen AFTER the trial that they hold and completely shatter Furina's reputation. As someone who had accompanied her for a couple of centuries, Neuvillette should be the one to stop this plan, not back up this plan.
The traveler, in the other hand, knows little about the true situation of Fontaine and only know the urgent matters, so they jump to conclusion and lend a helping hand to this disaster - which is definitely can be written in another less inconsiderate way.
Anyway, back to Neuvillette. In your opinion, Neuvillette doesn't deserve full authority, then treat it as a point of no return and await new story to unfold then. This outcome could be the best that could happen, or just something that work at that moment, or the only solution that work, but remember that imperfective/unsatisfied story is a story too. Bad things could happen in real life and in story, we know, we read, we hear and then we judge it differently, that's why each human is an autonomous and independent individual. We definitely can hate a character for something that the majority of other players can tolerate or don't realize ;)

This scene broke me. I have Bipolar, so I've had my share of days of just sitting on the edge of my bed or just laying on the floor, wishing life would just pass me by. Existence is tiring. The only thing worse than not being able to speak with someone, is when you do tell them and they don't understand your struggle. (Note: I have a Therapist and I'm on meds. I'm nothing like I was a decade ago.)
Watching someone be sad or depressed isn't what gets you; it's when they are grieving. And that is exactly what Furina is doing. She is grief stricken for the life she never had. All of this coming from a "silly" F2P gacha game. May wonders never cease.
I know what you mean… I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder in my late teens, and I’ve been on meds for almost half a decade now. When I first watched that scene, it really broke me. Existence is sometimes quite exhausting for me, so I can’t imagine how she must’ve felt after going through all that and now having anyone to talk to about her struggles.
When I first played the game years ago, I thought it was just going to be a nice game with a decent story to back it up (just like how most gacha games are), but Genshin’s really outdone it this time! Sumeru’s story made me tear up but Fontaine really takes the cake.
My one of my cousins died this week by an aneurysm, and I knew that 2 days after complete AQ Furina mision, it was devastating, seeing her for one last time in her funeral.
Yeah. I have Bipolar with a decent pile of trauma, and watching Furina… I can’t even begin to imagine her pain. I felt it deep in my heart, that crushing feeling of hopelessness.
“Am I ever going to get better? Am I always going to feel like this? Nobody understands how I feel… How do I even explain how it feels? Will anyone care? Will it even help?”
I have medication now, I’ve been going to therapy, and life has been getting better and better every year. It’s still hard, I slip back occasionally, but the trend line is clear ❤
I loved this quest so much and my appreciation of Furina went from 100 to 10000000, I was MAD that we couldn't talk to Furina after it though, and I don't think any characters except Neuvillette I think, checked up on her

When Furina hesitated if she could tell traveler the truth, but then she told herself to not be selfish and decided to keep up the act, I FUCKING CRIED! She didn’t have any clue of who she truly is or what Focalor was doing, she put up the act just cause she wanted to save the people. She couldn’t tell a single soul about it. 500 fucking years she suffered all alone. And the way she was being treated by her own people. Everyone owes a big apology to Furina. She deserves the world. When you think about it, Furina is one of the most selfless people in all of Teyvat. She literally gave up her freedom for 500 years without telling anyone, Had to deal with things that she didn’t know how to do because she didn’t have the archon power. She even has a line that goes like “come on Furina, Maybe it’ll be alright to put yourself first for this one time?” That trauma must of been hell to her.
Furina's current situation could be mirrored to that of someone who has Schizo/ADHD/PTSD and masking it's effects so that everything looks "normal" until everything cracks and all goes up in flames, now imagine doing that for 500 years

When her eyes twitching in the middle of crying while having a conversation with her fan kinda broke it for me, she is already reach insanity at that point and it's not helping that the last trial was just us blaming her for everything

I was forced to work 11 years in a job which hated since the 1st day, was so hard to adapt me there. I needed the money and never quit either to lose my years of services , I left that job via syndicate, I felt free and cried in happiness 😢 My escape happened while this game was in the 2.8/3.0 patch, the music of GAA/Sumeru was my kind of therapy.

Not a therapist, but I do have some knowledge (and its also touched on later in Furina's story). Eventually you would sort of become the part you are playing, since it is the only version of you that you display. Sort of like the persona you are using just takes hold over the others. After that you would just kind of have nothing since you might not even know who you really are at that point. Or you would just go insane considering a more realistic view of a normal human doing so. When it comes to Furina its a little different since she was made to feel what humans felt and experience life as a human, so she didnt really have a real self before getting these instructions, she just had the wonder of wanting to be human and experience life, so the only conflicting feeling she has is that she has to let no one know, let no one see that its all an act. So the fact she isolated herself out of the fear of not revealing the truth that she didnt even know about was the only option she might have thought of, as she might have still been able to have more personal interactions without giving up the truth, but that comes from knowing more about people. The fact she was able to keep the act up, and not go insane or lose her own sense of self shows not only her acting ability, but her immense willpower. The other archons even comment as much, that even as a human she was able to pull this off. Raiden Shogun particularly states as much given how she also locked herself in battle for 500 years, but what Furina did was far harder.

30:54 Not gonna lie, I found this scene kinda emotional personally. I don't know why. Seeing Furina cry while Fontaine (as well as all of Teyvat considering where Fontaine is, especially in terms of elevation) floods, the endless sea with Navia getting the survivors followed by Wriothesley with his flying ship, the Skyship Wingalet, doing the same, the waters receding and seeing people be happy that they didn't dissolve, claiming the prophecy was wrong (Furina especially), accompanied by the music... It made me tear up a bit honestly. This...whirlwind of events really was something. It was like a test that you were destined to fail, but also were destined to pass if something or someone were to change.
Also, I dunno why, but this cutscene reminded me of the ending of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 which was kind of similar to it. I won't spoil it for those who haven't played the game (or decided to watch a playthrough of it), but there is a similar-ish approach in my opinion.
16:49 I JUST REALIZED this line was the one we could hear faintly under the Fountain of Lucine once we completed one of the past archon quests. I remember everyone was trying to figure out if it was Furina crying or not, since I believe it was after the missing persons trial. God the foreshadowing in this whole entire Archon Quest was f:cking legendary
When i played this i think the prophecy did happened in such context, after everyone turned their backs to furina, and furina screaming to neuvelette, traveler and everyone else that she was the hydro archon and when no one believe her and she sat on her chair defeated. It feels like its somewhat the prophecy.

That whole conversation she held with that descendant of one of her earliest followers is so harrowing despite its brevity.
Comprehend just however many years it's been since she chose to take up the mantle. Twenty generations of this line she's seen come and go as she's acted out her role. And here she is, face to face with their newest descendant, and all of a sudden the enormity of just how much time she's spent in this position crashes down upon her and perhaps in that moment she almost breaks, but she can't. Even if her emotions escape her, this too must be part of the facade. She is a god, and she must act as such, for that is what the plan demands.
Even her pain is part of the show.

Hearing her beg AFTER receiving the context of her 500 years of loneliness and suffering, and why she even had to pretend to be the Archon, is heartbreaking to the max. She just wanted to save her people and the nation.

Freedom is all she ever wanted. She had experienced everything she wanted to enjoy as the archon but freedom was the one thing she could not.

Not going to lie, Hoyoverse has ramped up highly when it comes for their animation team. The scene after flooding where fontainians are being saved from drowning, it was truly well made from the animation team.

She still couldn't find a way to prevent the prophecy from happening. Furina was almost at her breaking point of just giving up. This poor girl...masquerading as the Hydro Archon for the sake on saving everyone. 😢
I really hated the traveller in this quest, MC was just so insensitive towards furina. She (furina) really deserves better 😭❤️

Tbh i actually support the traveler since Furina problem is she kept everything for herself, her inner self really wanted to tell someone about her situation. Though mainly i related Furina pain, telling everyone that i could take care of myself when in reality i dont know what to do anymore and hoping someone could force their way to guide me.
So yeah glad now she is free and in her story quest i am glad traveler able to make her more honest to herself

I do not play the game and i wish i do, the months i've stayed of watching behind screens of other peoples videos for the lore and characters themselves, for what i know so far is really cool to me and seeing this just feels like the end i want to see more of furina 😭😭💟

That one scene with the lights in the crowd made me think that the lights represented doubt and the only light that remained was the light on Furina herself
Neuvillette even cried it was so sad i cant just feel right she deserved justice...
But also, how the traveller only cared of the answers Furina could give rather than her life as a being.. it unsettles me and makes me wonder if we really are the good guys.

For 500 years she suffer for only a chance that her "mirror self" is doing something. And since Furina dont know how long she must act, the moment she was expose must be terifing. She have fail her task, domming Fontain to end, or if it was all imaginary and her "mirror self" was not real(remember, up to that point, people still dissolve in water which mean to Furina, nothing have been done) is what i imagine she was thinking.
The moment she realized that 500 years of her efforts were about to go to waste was heart breaking now that we know the lore 😩
First time i cried because of a video game and i finally cried because of furina backstory it took me 4 days to cry for her and today is the day

Yeah. At the very least, makoto do love ei, yet Makoto's duty as an archon must ensure her people safe, hence she left that burden to her sister. While furina at the first meeting looks like an innocent kid. Yet she work as a Hydro Archon for 500 years to keep people's faith so that the energy from faith unknowingly can be use to kill focalor's divinity to ensure Fontaine survival at the end of prophecy
