Your Song by Elton John is fantastic , written by his long time best friend songwriter Bernie Taupin . Also , I am kind of emotional because my late brother Malcolm told he would be 28 years old today because it was birthday. It was long before I was born , he passed away two weeks after his birthday because the doctors didn't have the right technology to save his life. But I bet he is smiling from heaven and God is blessing him .
Buckmaster, who passed in 2017, worked with the Bee Gees, Bowie, the Rolling Stones, and Miles Davis, to name just a few. He was the go-to guy for orchestral scores in the late 60s to early 80s.
Trouble is, it was on one of his earlier albums, and wasn't really brought into the spotlight until the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road shot him to superstardom. I was 17. ~ Mrs H
The song was written in 1967, when Bernie Taupin was 17 ("hence the extraordinarily virginal sentiments," he has said). Elton has said that this song is not about anyone in particular, so Taupin has refused to reveal the identity of the person - if such person exists - who inspired this song. He explained in a 1989 interview with Music Connection: "It's like the perennial ballad 'Your Song,' which has got to be one of the most naïve and childish lyrics in the entire repertoire of music, but I think the reason it still stands up is because it was real at the time. That was exactly what I was feeling. I was 17 years old and it was coming from someone whose outlook on love or experience with love was totally new and naïve.
I never grow tired of listening to his velvety smooth voice. “Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word” is another beautiful early song from Elton John. As always, I love your channel. 🌺✌️
I first heard this song on the radio in 1970 when I was growing up and followed his career after that. I have about 6 or 7 of his albums and they are all classics.
will always be my favorite Elton song. It was our first dance at our wedding 21 yrs ago. Elton will also be my all-time favorite artist, lol. First concert, best concert with Billy Joel, and 4 other times, lol.
Elton is my favorite artist! I first saw him in concert in 1974 in Atlanta, Georgia, I was only 12 I went with my big brother, my brother was killed in Vietnam a year later! I always thing of him when I hear this song because it was his favorite! God Bless!
I've been going to Elton concerts since the early 1970's. For many years now, "Your Song" has been in the encore. The audience sings it to Elton. He begins the song, then walks over to the audience, and holds the mic out to us. What that sounds like in Madison Square Garden is indescribable!!
A truly amazing song by a world class artist. My father ( God rest his soul) had a mix tape of all his favorite songs in the late 1970s that would be played in the car everytime we went anywhere in the car when i was a little boy, now when ever i here this song or any of the other songs from that tape i think of my DAD. Thank you. Jayy have you ever thought of listening to Robbie Williams song - Feel - Live at Knebworth? It is amazing and very emotional...
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written imo. Perfect example of simple and pure, less is more that hits you in such a powerful way. Now, suggestion time: You HAVE to check out Elton's song "Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding. It's really different and super epic with more of a rock vibe. I think it's one of Elton & Bernie's masterpieces. It will blow your mind I highly recommend it!
Lovely reaction to a classic, Jayy. Quite amazing that he did this at such a young age - even more amazing that Bernie wrote the words at 17 or 18 or something. Could I suggest a couple of songs from Elton's later period. The voice is deeper, but I think the composing is just as good. It's just that time has moved on. I Want Love (Robert Downey Junior is in the video) This Train Don't Stop There Anymore (Both from Songs From the West Coast, 2000) Home Again (from The Diving Board, 2013) Blue Wonderful (from Wonderful Crazy Night, 2016) The videos for the last two songs are beautiful.) I mention all this because most reactors do Elton's early period and you'd be forgiven for thinking he stopped recording just after Goodbye Yellow Brick Road! Oh, and Sir Elton has just put out a new single, a Pnau remix of several old songs with Dua Lipa doing vocals from Rocket Man. Worth a listen!
For over 50 years, Bernie Taupin has written the poetry, given it to Elton, who then puts music to it. That's how they've worked on every single song, album, single, since 1968. It's a wonderful working relationship between two unbelievable composers. The beauty of it is that Bernie readily admits he knows nothing about music, and Elton couldn't write a lyric for nothing. But when Bernie hands him that sheet of paper, Elton said he'd pretty much hear the song after reading the lyrics once. Many times the melody comes to him as he reading it the very first time.
If you have a chance go see some of these artists on tour before its too late! Elton was performing in his last tour when the pandemic hit. He's resuming his tour now. I was fortunate enough to see Elton with Billy Joel when they toured together years ago! 😊💖
Sweetheart, you need to go online and just get his first five or six albums on CD and have you an Elton Day! Madman Across the Water, Honkey Chateau, Goodbye Yellowbrick Road, and a couple others I can't think of right now, were all pure gold. Elton John was probably the biggest rock star on the planet early to mid seventies he could do no wrong. Go deep, Jayy, you won't be sorry.
Elton's voice in this very early period had such a purity to it and the way he lilted his notes and phrasings are just matchless and it was lost as he got more popular and age took it's toll.
@@upstreamification I am very glad you agreed with me overall. But I must also defend Andrew Lloyd-Webber. He also has been one of my musical Gods throughout my life and has been heavily inspirational to me and my own songwriting aspirations. Elton's work that you're comparing to his was indeed sub-standard to Lloyd-Webber. Elton was great in his element, but so was Andrew. The 2 really weren't in the same league though. Elton belonged in rock Andrew belonged in musical theater.
One of my favorites from Elton. he had a string of hits and I am sure others will suggest them. "Tiny Dancer" Then of course he was in the movie version of the who's "Tommy" playing "Pinball wizard" BTW "Go To The Mirror" is great from the rock opera "Tommy"
I agree. And would add that it is Elton in his prime. At what?? The age of 23 or 24 if I recall. One of his best performances. And same for Nigel and Dee. ✌
Still one of Bernies best songs, it holds up after 50+ years, had it played at a friend's funeral it was her favourite. It still brings a tear to my eye when it comes on (ya' cow you made me ball😢,lol)
I think a lot of people have stories about this one. Before we were permanently estranged, my brother had this played during his wedding ceremony, by a friend on guitar. (He also did 'There is Love' - better known as 'The Wedding Song'). Perhaps appropriately, considering what was to follow, he played the wrong chord a few times.
Elton John wrote a song in the early 90s called "The Last Song". It's an incredibly moving and sad song. When you hear it, you cant help but cry. It was written in honor Ryan White, the 13 year old that contracted HIV from blood transfusion in 1984 at the age of 13. Ryan became the face of AIDS and all its stigmas. Parents pulled their kids out of school because they didnt want their kids exposed to HIV/AIDS. Ryan died one month before his high school graduation. It ranks up there as one of his greatest songs but for some reason, it never really got airplay.........probably because of the subject matter.
Hi Ms. Jayy, I think this is one of if not his best song.. I love it.. Mr. Elton's live duet with Mr. George Michael of "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" is also very good.. ♠W.G.
Jayy, if you really want to bring the tears, react to Elton's performance of Candle In The Wind for Princess Dianna's funeral. It can still make this 44 year old man cry 24 years after.
Love seeing your reactions to great music I highly recommend the artist Luis Miguel he is a great singer he is my opinion the most famous Latin artist and he is nicknamed The Sun of Mexico and they often compare him and call him the Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley of Mexico he has so many great songs I highly recommend La Incondicional El Concierto this is his most famous song may God continue to bless you ❤🙌🙏🎵🎶

I've always loved the orchestrations in Elton's early music. Much-deserved and too-oft-overlooked props to the late great Paul Buckmaster.
