To paraphrase Bob Dylan, the only bad thing about a Gordon Lightfoot song is when it ends.

I recently read the biography and Bob Dylan has a lot of respect for Gordon Lightfoot. The two men often got together chatted, jammed, had coffee. Dylan referred to him as a master songwriter.

He's had so many great songs: "Sundown", "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald", "Song for a Winter's Night", "Early Morning Rain", "Summertime Dream", "Don Quixote", "Steel Rail Blues"... a huge catalogue of classics. At the same time, 1970s, there were several great singer/songwriters including Jim Croce, Jimmy Buffet and James Taylor. I think they all were casual and simple performers in that they performed "unplugged," and all dressed as though were making a purchase at a feed store. They were honest and unprentious and told love, devotion and loss, as well as fun and upbeat songs.

Great reaction. This IS a masterpiece; I agree. Please react to Don Qixote, Early Morning Rain and Christian Island. I got to see Gordon Lightfoot around 2004 or so and he mustve been 70+ y.o. but still had it. His songs & voice melt my heart.

It was a very personal song for Gordon since he was going through marital turmoil at the time. His daughter asked him to change the lyrics during live performances from 'the feelings that YOU lack' to 'the feelings that WE lack'.
My 3rd favorite song of all time!! Great tune, brilliant lyrics!

To me this is an ode to a romance that even though it was fated, even though it was written in the stars, it is sadly now ending as their lives are called in different directions. I like the reference to the castle and the wishing well. It's like he's referencing Jane Eyre, or Wuthering Heights.

Just like your reaction to In The Ghetto by Elvis in one of your earlier reaction videos this song by Gordon Lightfoot gets me every time. He was going through a divorce when he penned this song and when I went through my divorce this song just happened to start playing on the radio
