In the South it was a tradition when someone died to put a wreath on their door.

You missed the meaning of this song. He stopped loving her today because he died.
A black wreath was placed on the to signify a death in the home
He was all dress to go away---- the funeral home had prepared him for burial.
Soon they will carry him away--- to the cemetery.

Twelve years ago was when the vid was posted to youtube. The song was released in 1980. I remember it well. Like maybe 95% of all other reacters to this song. You completley missed the meaning. Every word of this song gives hints to the meaning and you started talking while he was singing . Then stopped the song at key points to talk about unrelated things. If you had listened instead of just heard the song you would have been in tears before it ended. Not saying you are one of them, but it is obvious that a lot of so called song reacters have no idea how to react to songs and just looking for "CLICKS". Also remember that the "12 years ago" that you referred to thinking it was when the song came out is when it was posted to youtube. This song was a #1 Country Classic that was recorded in 1979 and released in 1980 and is known to be the #1 Country Song of all time. If you truely listen to the words and understand what the song is about, you may understand why it was and still is #1.
