I love to see you work Cliff it relaxes me and it's amazimg to see a gemstone come alive! I find those Topaz very beautiful in color. Thank you so very much for the nice video! Pats to that little sweet assistant of yours too! Hugs, Susanne.
I’ve never watched his videos before and I think they’re really good and you get a lot of good points so thank you very much. Hopefully I’ll watch many more of these.
He know's what he is doing. I have a small natural Topaz from here in Canada that I want cut. It changes colour with the light, and is quite clear. Grey smoke, blue smoke, golden yellow. Would probably be about a carat after cutting.
I have never caught a gemstone yet but watching your videos I've been inspired to try to buy my own gym cutting machine I've been looking at the dfm digital fasting machine dfm1008. Love All your videos praying to cut like that some day. Roger McKenna love to cut gems.😊😊❤
Another great video. I am going to try and enter the AFG competition and would like to know where you source your rough. I see a lot on FB and other sites but the price ranges from a few $ to heaps. Competion equires gems to be no smaller than 7mm. Thanks in advance
I really loved this and all of your videos. I recently had nice topaz find and am interested in finding out more about what I need to purchase to be able to facet my stones, myself.
I actually found a smaller peice of this type of stone, On the ground. Looks very alike , from this video. Thanks again, many stones look like glass. Without in its natural state, or better tests . Amazing, that would look great as an earing.
Nice work. I'm just getting started and learning as I go. What type of glue do you use. I use standard Super glue, but yours looks different. And do you use heat to remove the Dop after you transfer it to the other Dop. Thanks for any advise, Woody.
@@VintageTimeGems Thanks for the quick reply. I find topaz here in Colorado and am trying my hand at faceting some. I quickly realized that Felt and Super Cerium Oxide might work good for Quartz, but is no match for polishing Topaz. So that's how I stumbled on to your Video..... Just learning as I go and trying to take it all in. Have a good one, Woody.
What are your thoughts on the $230 Faceting Machine on eBay? I'm interest in faceting and not sure if spending more than make sense as a starter machine.
Depending were you live. I would get in contact with a local gem club and give them a call. Most countries have gem dealers I'm sure could hook you up with someone.
Most topaz is clear. The light blue Topaz as seen is a natural colour that nature made. Yes the Imperial Topaz is usually golden and tends to be more expensive. I have read a little in past about other variants in colour like red topaz, I must look more into that. London Blue Topaz or the darker blues are heat treated. Cheers
Hi sir i am from india and i am a diamond.poilsh artist you wanna teach this cut I'll make marquis and pear and oval cut but i learn this cut can you help me sir
True...I sometimes hold the quill mainly for macro shots and various camera angles for the video so my hand is not in the way. Generally I hold the stone. Yes wax can flex so can epoxies. I never use wax anyway. Although you cannot see it, but my technique is to use very little pressure even when holding the gem/ quill as I'm often using the downward weight of gravity from the quill and the protractor head for smaller gems as this is a very solid machine unlike a Facetron. Adjustments of the faceting head lock nut also comes into play at times using gravity. But you are correct about holding the gem instead of the quill and it's well worth discussing on another video.

I use Devcon 5 minute 2 part Epoxy. I let it cure overnight. Yes, I use heat to remove dop on the exchange transfer. Happy faceting.

Lindo topázio lapidado!
Just getting started and I'd love to cut some Topaz. Just curious where are you purchasing your Topaz?
Most of the Topaz I have has been found by myself or given to me by members of my gem club. African Topaz I buy off Ebay or from Joe Henley Rough.
@@VintageTimeGems Thank you very much.

With the perspex lap can you just clean it or do you need one for each grit. Enjoying this video Cliff.
I clean it with denatured alcohol, but always use the same grit.
Super like mais um inscrito
What kind of gem is that?
Is it true most topaz cut clear blue? And the only time they ever have yellow gold and red Colour is if they're Imperial

I have a quartz gem that glows with black light(?) But when you don't shine the light it looks like a normal quartz.
Topaz glows golden yellow under Short Wave Ultraviolet and cream under Long Wave UV.

Sir my question again. how you are setting the angle for 10th and 100th values ?
Прикольно 👍😊
Sir please Cutting boy selected
Please don't hold the quill when cutting you must hold the stone: 1 holding the quill puts stress on the wax, 2 it also introduces unwanted flex.
True...I sometimes hold the quill mainly for macro shots and various camera angles for the video so my hand is not in the way. Generally I hold the stone. Yes wax can flex so can epoxies.
