  • Rocketry pioneer Frederick Ordway (1927 - 2014) was the man most responsible for the designs and verisimilitude of the vehicles, control panels etc. in Kubrick and Clarke's 1968 masterpiece "2001: A Space Odyssey". In this brief excerpt from our 2012 film "2001: The Science of Futures Past" he reveals some of the secrets. (The full documentary, along with Adam K. Johnson's Ordway-collection-based book "2001: The Lost Science", is available through www.cgpublishing.com)

Fred wrote quite the disappointed diatribe against the picture once it reached theaters. Kubrick fooled them and made the movie with his own agenda.

But did derivations outweigh and will they outlast THE CONQUEST OF SPACE?
