As a mechanic i agree new cars are made to break and be junked. I would not buy anything above 2015 and personally think 1996-2009 were probably the last long lasting easy to fix cars made
People laughed at me when i bought a simple Honda Fit brand new in 2017. I love the little thing, cheap, reliable, inexpensive to maintain, 40.mpg +/- a little. Should last many more years. I'm stacking cash. Home paid off too
Personally, I wouldn't get those extra small vehicle for safety reason. That's a huge factor for me to pick which vehicle to drive on daily base. I mean I can't control how other drivers on the road operate their vehicles. I've seen so many crazy, careless people driving like they are the only ones on the road. In case i get hit, I do wish my vehicle can handle it well to minimize my injury. FYI, i drive 2007 Toyota Tundra, 6' lifted with TOYO MT tires. I paid with cash, so I didnt have to deal with any dealers, finance all those bullshit. I just bought it like that, I didn't do those mods. mpg does suck though lol.
Couldn’t agree more, worked in auto parts for 30 years. Everyone, even Toyota started using more and more Plastics in engine and cooling system parts. Turbo’s in everything are unreliable and add a host of additional complexity compared to a simple mpi large displacement engine. Our immediate family has 4 daily driver Toyota’s ranging from 9 to 27 years old. Never once leaving us stranded. You can keep your disposable new car and your ridiculous forever car payments. No thanks!
I couldn’t agree more, new cars are such crap, I’ve been in this business of repair for 50 years, owned my own shop for the last 26 years, my son works for me and refuses to recommend anything new. Maybe Toyota certain models, but for himself he just bought a 1993 Honda Accord because he says he will never buy all this newly over regulated crap and he is right. He found it on 93 accord out of California
I see so many that even back up now with all those sensors and camera. I have a 2007 Camry with no camera, and I can park just fine. I feel these cars are making people dumb.
I’ll be driving my long Paid Off 2015 Lexus RX350 3.5 V6 with only 66K miles forever and loving it every day! It drives just as good now as it did off the lot in 2015. These new cars are overpriced garbage ! Not having a car payment is priceless! 😊
You're right the more crap they put on them the more likely it is that it will break. I would say from 1987-2010 the automobiles were built great and still affordable.
Wow someone who tells it how it is! Comparing your channel to another channel like OCMotivatior where he needs to buy and have the latest and greatest. You own a older 4 Runner and stand behind it. Your are about common sense and I love it.
I bought a super clean 2013 nissan prox4 with 130,000 miles for 14.5 CASH. No payments for me! I fluid filmed the frame and just did trans fluid change. Regular maintenance and it will last a LONG time!!

I feel pretty good about my 2005 dodge grand caravan. It has 79k miles zero rust and I think it will keep going for a long time. All of my previous caravans had well over 200k and they still ran fine. Keep it simple
I totally agree with everything in this video! All my neighbors think I am crazy for hoarding older vehicles . I own seven older GM's. Newest is a 2007, oldest a 1969. These vehicles should last me the rest of my life. I live in the Desert so they should stay rust free. The only vehicles i would buy newer than an 2007 model would be a Toyota or Honda.
Biggest problem is even the dealers may only have 2 or 3 mechanics out of maybe 10 that really just know how to fix all these problems especially electrical.
I agree with you. I have been looking at trucks, and looking backwards. All this electronic bs will break and will be expensive to repair. Just a plain V8 that can pull my camper is all I need!
This is proper thinking in my opinion. I just may do this. Problem is that my 05 TRD Tundra is treating me right. I get offers to buy it fairly often. So maybe I'll just hold on to it.
that’s why i’ll just keep my barebones 2013 🇺🇸chevy hd2500 gas 6.0 with 200k miles…. 👊 Still Tuggin Hard !!! (keep what you have & repair when needed.)
Our taxes pay the manufacturer when they comply with “EPA Regulations.” So, they’re getting even more of our money. Most people are unaware of that. Build cheapest and charge the most..
I can't agree more with everything in this video. Normally aspiration is the way to go if you want longevity. Small cars can have a normal 4 cylinder engine without a turbo being attached to it. Remember the old Toyotas and Hondas of the 1990's? They were amazing. I'm still driving one today as my daily. I have no desire to buy something new because it's overpriced, underbuilt and just pure junk.
Also manufactures are trying to shut down third party repairs by leasing unaffordable software equipment to mechanics needed to fix all these new tech cars.
I bought a 2023 Jeep Wrangler Willys with manual locks, windows, and tranny. After Jeep did an upgrade through my radio, I had to reboot my Auto Start/Stop Eliminator that I purchased to bypass that awful stop/start!
I like looking at new trucks, but they just don’t compare to the old. If I had to buy new, I think I’d pick the Nissan frontier. It’s sad that they’re aren’t any v6 manuals in the US anymore though
Its all by design. Why would they give us more reliable when less reliable is cheaper to make and they know for a fact that people will buy it regardless.
You know, I was talking to a few people about this situation and how also maintenance can be so tedious, do an oil change every 3500, 5000, 7500, 10000 miles… differential fluid, brake fluid, transmission fluid change, transfer case fluid change, thermostat, water pump and if you miss something a lot of times it can be punishable to you and something will break on how it was designed, costing you way more money and then let’s not even talk about mechanic ripping you off… I know it’s all of them but it just so unfortunate the state of all of this… property taxes, taxes to fix roads, etc, etc…. And charges that keep piling up and I know that I missed some other things by the way… I’m gonna say a bad word for some people, but we need more, affordable and better quality of PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION!! God forbid you used an oil on your maintenance schedule that out of all the certs or ratings that is supposed to have, a certain rating was not disclosed on the label and you or the mechanic added it and now your differential won’t work and now you need to replace it costing over $1000 at best… God forbid I take my vehicle for short trips or is gonna clog the spark plugs or Goddayum I use it for long trips only and now I have knocking noises on my engine cause the camshaft or whatever (depending on the brand broke) inside. The automotive industry has been so corrupted and designed in every way to screw you off your HARD EARNED MONEY !!! WAKE UP EVERYBODY!!!
The average person can’t afford buying a vehicle without financing it. Debt is at an all time high right now I believe. It took me into my fifties to pay cash for my vehicles. Lots of factors including lifestyle, and wants not needs.
Were you buying new when paying cash? You are very right though. No way possible cash for a new car is possible for most people. no freakin way. If you are paying cash for a new vehicle somehow you are disciplined and smart enough to save but dumb enough to waste all that effort on a nightmare. edit. nightmare from todays' car
You are spot on. I can buy any vehicle I want for cash and I won't! I will keep my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee because it has a normally aspirated V-8 and all cyclinders stay on. It doesn't have a screen and all gages are analog.
By hiking up the price on ICE vehicles they accomplish several things. 1- Covers costs for EV’s. 2- Makes EV prices competitive. Plus by putting these small turbo engines and cutting back in quality, will mean in five or so years from now you will need a new vehicle. The only vehicles they plan on putting on the lots will be EV’s, you won’t have a choice. And trucks like the Maverick were meant for commercial sales, not the public.
I love seeing that brand new car and truck sitting in parking lot with nice dings scratches and scuffs. I laugh all the way to my pos old truck. a fool and his money shall part.

He said when he’s able to get rid of it he’ll go buy an old Jeep TJ Wrangler and call it a day. I’ve owned a couple of the ford ecoboosts and they are horrible for long term reliability. I’ll never buy another one. Bought a certified 2020 Lexus ES350 with a maintenance plan (already paid for itself) and a 100k mile warranty. Has the super reliable 3.5L V6. I’ll never buy the turbo crap again! Also bought a 2023 Lexus GX460 with the bullet proof V8 and plan on driving it for 20 more years so might be the last vehicle i buy. 3:00 is the absolute truth, financing a depreciating asset is insanity. As far as quality goes all these newer vehicles look cheap from a mile away. A big steaming pile of overpriced plastic shit. Truth is, most everything today has been gutted for maximum profit.
Elon Musk and Trump were talking about this recently. They agreed that the EPA shouldn't be forcing the industry to make Hybrids & EV's. Once technology improves, people will buy EV's without the Government forcing them to. Government incentives to these companies is just making the prices higher. I agree. I think the tide shifted when iphones/smartphones came in to light. It trained consumers to replace an expensive perfectly good phone every 2 years. From then on companies noticed people don't care about repairability or reliability as long as you can offer them the newest and greatest. People will pay. So what's the point? What do all these new cars have in common. A very advance infotainment system. Electronically fragile, but people can drive with the smartphone integrated in to the car.
I put a rebuilt 5.3l in my Silverado a year ago. Removing the old one wasn’t a cake walk but it was doable in my garage. The one I had rebuilt had 278,000 miles and it didn’t need anything more than some cleaning up, a re-deck, a hone and of corse, bearings and rings. All in at $2,500 and ready for another 200,000. Within a month I had several offers from guys I knew asking if I’d do the same to theirs. The new engines are garbage with plastic parts throughout and I would venture to say, none of them will be worth rebuilding.
Plastic oil pans should be illegal. Transmission fluid dipsticks need to be mandated by law. Making vehicles unserviceable by their owners is a sneaky attempt to force you to go to the dealership or just not do routine maintenance at all.

@@marccampbellsr1085 I'd wait for the 2025 Frontier. Nissan should have the electrical issues figured out by then. I was looking at 2024 Frontiers, and comparing them to the competition. I saw several Pro-4X models on sale for $37K. You just have to look around. I have a 10 year old daughter. Unfortunately, the Frontier back seat is too small for her. I really need a truck based SUV. I'll wait for the 3rd Gen Xterra, based on the 3rd Gen Frontier. Nissan North America released a video of their new vehicles on 3/29/2024. In the video, all the vehicles were blacked out. But, you can very clearly make out a 3rd Gen Xterra. It's pretty much guaranteed that Nissan will be coming out with it in the next 2 years.
My 1978 Chevrolet Silverado looks so good out in the driveway. Drive it everyday.
Take care of a vehicle and you will not have to replace.
Vehicles are the next consumable item that is taking the route of planned obsolescence. There’s no need to make anything reliable anymore because there’s a new one right around the corner. Except instead of a $1k cell phone, it’s a $50k truck.
Well said and probably very very true.
My mobile phone is 4 years old and does everything the new ones do.

Home paid off too
Are the Honda Fits normally aspirated?
@@klwthe3rdYes, the weakness is the transmission.

If your were not an American. Everyone would be saying good choose.
love my 2000 V6 Camry w only 96,000 milles. I only paid 6 grand
No Apple CarPlay doe🤪
Your ahead of the game,we have the same Camry with 300k and its smooth as silk. Hold on to that one😁
I couldn't agree more.
The EPA fails to inform us that the most environmentally friendly vehicle is the one you don't need to replace every 5 years.
cash for klunkers now

That part! These new cars and features are making roads unsafe due to making drivers reliant on the vehicle and not their own ability.
Especially if it breaks out of warranty and you have to pay to replace it.
I see so many that even back up now with all those sensors and camera. I have a 2007 Camry with no camera, and I can park just fine. I feel these cars are making people dumb.
If this isn’t the truth!!! People putting their faith in a car while neglecting how to actually drive themselves. I agree!!!
You can blame the government for all this.
Avoid car dealers? No problem there. New or Used just isn't worth what they are asking.
No CVT
No Turbo

Wow someone who tells it how it is! Comparing your channel to another channel like OCMotivatior where he needs to buy and have the latest and greatest. You own a older 4 Runner and stand behind it. Your are about common sense and I love it.
I'll keep my 2006 Silverado 2500HD. No car payment in twelve years and truck is running like a Swiss watch.

@gcactus69 that's on the 2009 or 2010 and earlier. Nissan had that issue fixed well before 2013
@smoovkilla nice, I'm going to fluid film my frame this weekend. I hope it's the last truck I buy for a very long time! I just changed trans fluid last weekend. Protect your investment!
Hey, I am a retired master mechanic. Yes new is junk! Not worth owning. Thanks ANB
Consumers are going down a dead end road! Higher price, lower quality and crazy interest rates!
I feel pretty good about my 2005 dodge grand caravan. It has 79k miles zero rust and I think it will keep going for a long time. All of my previous caravans had well over 200k and they still ran fine. Keep it simple
Toyota master tech here. I agree 100% with you. I appreciate your opinion.
Biggest problem is even the dealers may only have 2 or 3 mechanics out of maybe 10 that really just
know how to fix all these problems especially electrical.
I agree with you. I have been looking at trucks, and looking backwards. All this electronic bs will break and will be expensive to repair. Just a plain V8 that can pull my camper is all I need!
Find a 2024 Toyota 4Runner while they are still out there. V6, naturally asperated, no turbo, no direct injection. A real truck.
This is proper thinking in my opinion. I just may do this. Problem is that my 05 TRD Tundra is treating me right. I get offers to buy it fairly often. So maybe I'll just hold on to it.
I would be suspect about new toyota power trains. The 3rd gen tundra has been a disaster
that’s why i’ll just keep my barebones 2013 🇺🇸chevy hd2500 gas 6.0 with 200k miles…. 👊 Still Tuggin Hard !!! (keep what you have & repair when needed.)
You are right and I'm glad that someone made that content. Hope people will wake up finally and stop making stupid decisions
Our taxes pay the manufacturer when they comply with “EPA Regulations.”
So, they’re getting even more of our money.
No more chicken tax. I’d import a 70 series and call it a day.
The dream right here lol
Also manufactures are trying to shut down third party repairs by leasing unaffordable software equipment to mechanics needed to fix all these new tech cars.
They do way more than that.
That's why I like scout motors. They plan to make 80% of the parts user serviceable in their driveway.
I bought a 2023 Jeep Wrangler Willys with manual locks, windows, and tranny. After Jeep did an upgrade through my radio, I had to reboot my Auto Start/Stop Eliminator that I purchased to bypass that awful stop/start!
You could have just bought a mini tazer and it disables the auto start/stop for like $200. It has tons of other features too.
@@JFitness88 I live by the KISS doctrine: keep it simple stupid I didn't want any other feature than defeating that awful start/stop.
Most manufacturers are doing this. I guess because they are high tech they think they can go cheap on the materials.
I like looking at new trucks, but they just don’t compare to the old. If I had to buy new, I think I’d pick the Nissan frontier. It’s sad that they’re aren’t any v6 manuals in the US anymore though
Anything new is crap, unless its a 4Runner or Honda with a V6.
And charges that keep piling up and I know that I missed some other things by the way…
I’m gonna say a bad word for some people, but we need more, affordable and better quality of PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION!!
God forbid you used an oil on your maintenance schedule that out of all the certs or ratings that is supposed to have, a certain rating was not disclosed on the label and you or the mechanic added it and now your differential won’t work and now you need to replace it costing over $1000 at best…
God forbid I take my vehicle for short trips or is gonna clog the spark plugs or Goddayum I use it for long trips only and now I have knocking noises on my engine cause the camshaft or whatever (depending on the brand broke) inside.
The automotive industry has been so corrupted and designed in every way to screw you off your HARD EARNED MONEY !!!
WAKE UP EVERYBODY!!!
Your comment says you know a lot about cars. At least a million times more than the average person. I really appreciated seeing this.
It doesn't have a screen and all gages are analog.
i i i me me me. you are man chick. females only know how to talk and act like you
By hiking up the price on ICE vehicles they accomplish several things.
It really irks me how people are shelling out so much for these things!! Then many wanna complain about high prices! There’s a far greater problem with our society than meets the eye….. I agree with everything you said in this vid!!!
The prices are high because of our government.😢
Everything you said is 100% spot on!!!
my '22 Tacoma trd off-road was $38k and I felt like I was spending way too much on a truck at the time. Holy crap did I buy at the right time. Kepping the tacoma forever, and my '07 tacoma was $22k and still own it, running perfectly. I talked my parents into buying a '24 4runner before they are gone, best advice I've ever given them.
💯 correct. Now trucks sound like a tuner car with coffee can mufflers. I see popular yoobtoob auto channels pushing auto warranty companies. Instead of fighting for quality they're accepting whatever and expecting failure. No Deal.
I agree 100% with you. You should start looking into these dealerships doc fees and add ons in the fine print. Door guards, nitro tires, tint, wax, all this BS people dont wanna pay for! What a joke! How are they still selling?
I have a 2004 Chevy Suburban ls 1500 4x4 5.3 with towing pack with the g80 rear differential, I have owned it for the last 12 years and I bought it with 189,000 km on it. It looked mint then it has been an amazing suv and has over 340,000 km now, easy to work on lots of parts available parts are inexpensive. In my opinion it’s one of the best all around suvs ever made and am proud to still be driving it.
This is spot on! Son bought a 2019 Chevy Silverado Trail Boss with the 5.3L V8. It has been a complete pile of garbage. Left him stranded multiple times but the values have dropped significantly for used vehicles and he can’t trade it or sell it. Little thirsty but i bought it for reliability as well.
Well said. All car Manf. are focusing on electronics and less on long term quality hardware-parts. It is sad.
3:00 is the absolute truth, financing a depreciating asset is insanity. As far as quality goes all these newer vehicles look cheap from a mile away. A big steaming pile of overpriced plastic shit. Truth is, most everything today has been gutted for maximum profit.
As a mechanic I agree fully with this video. But please keep buying new cars cause I love the job security.
Elon Musk and Trump were talking about this recently. They agreed that the EPA shouldn't be forcing the industry to make Hybrids & EV's. Once technology improves, people will buy EV's without the Government forcing them to. Government incentives to these companies is just making the prices higher. Just like Student loans made College expensive.

New cars are designed to be worthless after the loan is finished. Especially the people who finance and do bare minimal maintenance. Manufacturers know this and love to keep getting payments from consumers by selling them another car. I read the right to fix newer cars will come with a mandatory subscription now sometime in the future.

It is nuts! Its crazy that homeowners insurance can deny your claim because you parked the fire hazard in your garage and they can sell these to people. Even the electric bicycles are going to get you denied for fire damage.
@dipndaVic You're Appsolutly right. I've been to at least 5 EV fires in my last 4 years of service and I retired in 2020 I wouldn't park a EV in my garage and nothing with Li-ion batteries.

That's why I drive my 2009 outback and 98 laredo
