Playing this on my pro. After watching both parts of this video I have to admit the X looks freakin beautiful!
I have it for the Pro, looks and plays great. Definitely not any HUGE difference than on the X. Also my GOD as they say it's the highest rated game on PS4, meaning? There are over 35,000 reviews!!! Compared to like a mere 1k or just over that on Xbox One. That's just insane, and shows what the vast majority of people play this on. So even with the X's extra power, people still love Sony's machine. I thought I even liked the X better, nope, not the case. Over 97,000,000 PS4's sold since 2013, uh yeah that's just astonishing.

Thing is, it's only nerds like DF that actually care about 27FPS. People forget that in the 360/early ps4 era, high 20s was actually normal. There are very very few demanding games that lock at 30FPS at all

* PS4/XB One have better overall performance than RDR1 had in 360/ps3 hardware. There are drops even to the low-mid 20s at some points though.
* Visual parity in terms of rendering for all versions. (same assets/foliage etc)

* No evidence of dynamic resolution in any of the versions tested.
* DF consider the game a stunning achievement regardless and believe the XBX X version is the best and by a considerable margin.
There needs to be this summary on every DF video, especially considering their videos used to be 7 mins, not 30 fucking minutes holy fuck I've got assignments to do that's just ridiculous.
Take one thing in consideration, this video was recorded before the day one patch.

I really want to know what happens if you want to play 1080p on an Xbox One X. I don't have a 4K screen & I don't have 4k recording capabilities. I just want a solid clear 1080p experience, and I already own the game for Xbox.
Better stable frame rates and it's super-sampling with more AA, it's really good to be honest. You're getting the superior version even if you don't have a 4k tv which is amazing.

@@jesuschristislord7754 I play on the xbx and haven't noticed any lag. I have seen a lot of ps4pro owners complaining about the lag and blurriness of the game on reddit though.
@@Spartan_83 - well I have. It lags during firefights with lots of enemies especially if there's fire in the scene.
Perhaps you have a AMD Freesync monitor or newer Samsung TV that supports Freesync that reduces frame drops being noticeable.
I notice drops into the low 20fps range on the Xbox one X which I only bought for RDR2 since I game on pc 99% of the time except for some console exclusives on PS4.

@@AlexRN Cyberpunk was made with high end hardware in mind. Unlike Cyberpunk Rdr2 has large open empty areas with mountains which allows the game to load the other stuff allowing the game to run at a stable 30. Cyberpunk shouldn't have released the game on these consoles but that is where the money was

Also your argument doesn’t explain why the PC version was also super buggy (less than on consoles but still), something that never happened with, say, RDR2. There’s no excuse. They shouldn’t have ported the game to PS4/XB1 if they weren’t going to bother making it run well.

Devin Forman it’s worth it bro. I bought two copy’s for both my Pro and X. The X really is a lot better and runs smoother. I use the X for just playing the story and probably use my Pro to play online with my buddies. After being loyal to PS for 20 years, I’m pretty glad to say that I purchased a One X

4K at 30 fps is not impressive or even note worthy.
I have the 1X and I'm so blown away at how perfect the image is. I've noticed pop-in maybe once and is just some branch on a tree. There's absolutely no aliasing I've noticed. Framerate on certain first person sequences (specifically animal attacks) can get very choppy. Only graphical aspect that falls short under scrutiny (for my personal preferences) is the shadow map resolution.
Best looking open world game I've ever seen. Fucking beautiful. PC guys who can run this maxed at 1440p144fps are gonna love this shit.

Now sitting 8-10 feet away on a couch you may not notice the difference but when it comes down to it, there's a big difference in image quality between the consoles, which is what they're showing here. Unless you're saying they purposefully blur the video captured from the PS4, which is highly unlikely considering they're tons of other comparison videos showing the exact same thing as in this video.

I played this game on an S and upgraded to an X. The difference is real; both in load times and visual. The game looks very good on the S but for some reason, on the X, it looks a lot better.
I'm enjoying it on the X, but I wish they would've put an SSD in it.

I can’t believe how Rockstar managed this on the X for such a detailed game. Props go to MS as well for such an optimized system. It’s actually a very dramatic upgrade over the pro, just comparing the images everything looks blurry on the pro, which is unfortunate since I would have preferred to play on PS. Yes I’m a Sony fanboy but will always buy the most competitive console regardless and play multi-platform games on the best console. And this video clearly showcases that if you want the best graphical experience, RDR2 on X Box One X is leaps better than the rest.

I agree. Even if you don't have a 4k TV, you get a much higher quality image because it scales down the 4k image to 1080p. Resulting in much more detail.

CEWIIH Of course it’s all subjective but comparing the images you can clearly see differences which to me is dramatic especially trying to compare two top systems. My main point was just acknowledging how impressive the image quality and performance is on the Xbox one x.

I bought both XBX and RDR2 second-handed, and the console has still 1.5 years of guarantee left on it. This game looks gorgeous and runs butter-smooth, I haven't had any issues whatsoever.
Xbox one X will still be good to go two years into next gen. Then I'd definitely upgrade by then.

I was soooooo close to getting a pro. Talked myself out of it and got an X. I'm so glad I did (especially after watching this video). So, I now have a PS4 and an Xbox One X. I chose to play RDR2 on the One X. I want the full 4k experience. I love PlayStation for the exclusives but I love the X for backwards compatibility and the utterly gorgeous 4k resolution. In addition to this, the X always feels more smooth and streamlined. I'm very happy that I bought an X. They better step it up with the exclusives though.
All of these X Haters (who are hoping for the complete downfall of XBOX) really need to check themselves. If Xbox went out of business, PlayStation would have no competition...and mark my words: if that happened the quality and service of PlayStation would go to hell. Their customer service is already complete SHIT. I would hate to see it if they had no competition. Competition is good. It forces companies to be held accountable to their own practices-----lest they nudge people toward the competition. Getting this across to blind-follower-fanboys is no small task.

Jason Farrell, actually this is one of the great things about language, the change and mean of words and phrases as their intent by users changes over time. Just because an original phrase meant one thing doesn’t mean it can’t become something else over time as long as people understand the meaning behind it. In this case I’m sure many understand the sentiment and intentions behind it. In this case rather than indicating a stupid act it signifies an act one can’t preform while the other is able, so while such an act is performed it needs the one that failed to hold its beverage, hilarious. If you wish to go back to a time where language doesn’t evolve I suggest you start communicating with a series of grunts.
The graphics are great. What I think has really put it over the top are how Rockstar has made it feel like a living world. It used to be you would go into cities and it would feel dead. Now, you head into town during the day and there are tons of NPCs walking around, having conversations, and going about their daily routines. It’s awesome!
I know this comment is 5 years old at this point but I just started playing this for the first time on my PS5 and when I entered even a small town like Valentine for the first time, it blew my mind just how realistic it felt, not in terms of graphics (although it looks graphically impressive to this day), but how the NPC behaved. The town felt alive and not just window dressing.
At one point Arthur steals a horse to chase a guy and I then realised that you can even come back and return the horse to its owner and gain honor. I’m not quite far into the game but it’s amazing how they managed to do all this on the base last gen consoles. Playing this actually got me even hyped for GTA 6 coming next year.
I spent hundreds of hours on the awful Ps3 version of Red Dead Redemption, I can manage a couple of dropped frames here.

I bought my X for this reason, multi-platform games on X and those amazing exclusives on Pro. Tbh though the X multi-platform games have been better but it's usually minor things. Finally, the X made me feel like I made the right decision to wait and upgrade last Christmas. Hopefully, the rest of the industries pays close attention to this achievement and spends a little more time utilizing the X hardware, as this game proves the system is more capable than what's been done with third party games thus far.
I'm a simple guy. I see Red Dead 2 to buy, I wack it in my PS4 and I enjoy the 1080p visuals.

I'm a PS4 user, and I always preferred sony over microsoft, most of it due to the fact that at least in this part of the world ps rules (south america) but the xbox one x is with no doubt the best console in terms of hardware, but the sad thing for xbox users are that there are pretty much none exclusives, and when there are, they're not exclusives, you can play them on pc as well, and obviously pc is gonna be better (always, no matter how much babies cries about their 4k native on x1x, pc>all other consoles). I think that's the thing, xbox one has very few exclusives and they also can be played on pc, no one will choose the xbox over a pc (this of course if ur pc can run that game). Meanwhile sony has many many exclusives, and they are all amazing, no one can deny that. So at least for me that's why sony is better than xbox, they know how to seize their console with the exclusives. Still, maybe I'll get rdr2, i've been playing at 15-20fps and if im lucky at 720p on my pc, so I dont give an actual fuck if the ps4 doesnt have 4k, as long as i can play the game without having to cry myself to sleep due to the low fps, i'll be happy

The Xbox One X is the best console ever produced by far. Comparing it to the base console is like night and day.
The performance is perfect for gamers who want a high quality PC like experience in 4K with the plug and play ease of use of consoles. I have a decent PC rig and still prefer to play on the X.

The X is essentially a complete generational leap over the base console. In fact, I don't think there's ever been a console generation where the leap in pixel count was 6.2 times.

Next gen won't see this big of a leap in image quality but we'll get 60fps in most games.

FPS is the big deal to be honest, everyone who played with 60 fps on PC can't go back to 30. Besides people on consoles play so far to their screen that i doubt going higher and higher in resolution means anything at some point.

Makes me wonder how they're gonna handle the next generation of xbox. I feel like there's a risk that it could just feel like an incremental upgrade. I only own a normal ps4 though, so I don't have any hands on experience.
What is wrong with the people here? Is it a crime to play the game on the console which you already have? According to most people here I should spend extra 400€ to buy an Xbox One X for a single game. Nobody says that the Xbox One X is not the best graphical version but to buy a new console is for most people just an irrational decision.

@@deanbarber365 is it because of the motion blur? I play on an 55 inch TV with FPS reconstruction technique. It's called motionflow on Sony TV's and if it's enabled every 30 FPS games feels so damn smooth.

Knochey - Digital Foundary console comparison videos are mostly a waste. Their commentary is always a forgone conclusion: Xbox One X is best, everything else is worse. Shocker. That’s because they only consider graphics and that’s a given based on the GPU power.
But GPU power is not the only consideration for actual gamers - e.g., what platform you own, what platform your friends own, player base / player count, price, exclusives, etc.
I rarely buy anything on Xbox One X, even as a PS4 Pro + Xbox One X + Switch owner. The Xbox is my least favorite console of this generation. It has such a smaller player base and basically no exclusives anymore. I bought it, and it was a waste of money. Just my two cents.
PS4 Pro version looks really "muddy" compared to X, looks like I will have to pick up an X for this one! Usually on multiplat stuff I think the Pro versions looks great, this is the first one to dissapoint me.

Actually, after putting together my own gaming PC I have come to appreciate the Xbox One X even more. What Microsoft did with the hardware on the Xbox One X is pretty amazing. I will say yes, mainly for this game I bought one x and changed my old tv on lg oled b7 and it was a great decision. When I turned on this game for the first time, my eyes died and they were in heaven - this game looks better than anything else. Wonder! 😍

For the longest time, since Xbox One and PS4 released, I told myself that I would only buy PS4 because it had the better specs and performance. It just always did. Granted, I was mainly just a PC player.
However, when Microsoft finally got their thumb out from under themselves and released the Xbox One X, I knew I needed one in order to enjoy every game at 4K. I was finally given a reason to spend money on a 4K TV since a console could FINALLY run at Native 4K and not some checkerboarded bs that could have just been 1440p.
This game literally proves the Xbox One X's worth. If you choose any of the other systems, you're doing yourself a disservice by not enjoying the game at it's maximum potential if it's not on PC yet.
Crazy how good this game looks on last gen Consoles. Imagine what gta 6 will look like on series x and ps5 which are so much faster

I currently play the game on an Xbox one X on a 42 inch Sharp Aquos LCD TV from 2007 that only supports 1080p and it looks absolutely breathtaking.
Update: I tried out some entry level 4K TVs and found myself very disappointed, even to the point of returning them on two separate occasions and switching back to the 2007 TV. I think I need to get something a little more upscale, yet still in the 43 inch range.

It's in line with its performance profile 1 or 2 frames at times lower the base PS4(which can sometimes go 1 or 2 frames less than the base Xbox) and slightly less resolution than the base PS4, Nothing has changed.

I was soooooo close to getting a pro. Talked myself out of it and got an X. I'm so glad I did (especially after watching this video). So, I now have a PS4 and an Xbox One X. I chose to play RDR2 on the One X. I want the full 4k experience. I love PlayStation for the exclusives but I love the X for backwards compatibility and the utterly gorgeous 4k resolution. In addition to this, the X always feels more smooth and streamlined. I'm very happy that I bought an X. They better step it up with the exclusives though.
All of these X Haters (who are hoping for the complete downfall of XBOX) really need to check themselves. If Xbox went out of business, PlayStation would have no competition...and mark my words: if that happened the quality and service of PlayStation would go to hell. Their customer service is already complete SHIT. I would hate to see it if they had no competition. Competition is good. It forces companies to be held accountable to their own practices (and bullshit)-----lest they nudge people toward the competition. Getting this across to blind-follower-fanboys is no small task.

@@themightybadger8374 yeah, they were just a "mid season" refresh to help boost sales, compete with 4k market, and wet are whistles. We were lucky we even got those. Remember how long the 360 and PS3 were on the market before they moved to the current gen? it was like 8 years! Odds are were going to get the Next gen consoles in 2020 which would be 7 years with the mid refresh. Ones thing ive noticed though is that the amount of games made for these gen consoles is substantially lower then the last. But im really curious on how Sony will handle the PS5 given they completely dominated in sales over Microsoft this time and might do something crazy in terms of hardware. whoever makes the better deal with AMD and spends the most will come out way ahead. It will always be a back and forth though. Gaming has become the most profitable thing to ever exist in entertainment and these companies will stop at nothing to dominate that space.
Something i think wasn't mentioned, is the fact we can actually see very low res, but still real time reflections in building windows. Look closely to a window, with a street behind you, and you will actually see carriges passing by. It's easier to notice in Saint Denis.

I'll stick to a console version because the PC version currently does not support offline launch. You cannot launch the game if your PC is not connected to a stable internet connection.

@@dubeinn the game has very heavy graphics to run at this resolution on Xone. They would have to down the graphic quality a lot. The maximum they could try to achieve would be 900p. But, i am playing on my One S, and looks so good, especially for an outdated console.
Switch the ps4 pro to 1080p for now cuz that fake 4k filter on pro looks terrible. Hopefully rockstar gets rid of it and just sets it to 1440p

It's the controller. Before starting up the game, press x,o,square,L2 R1, triangle. Then load up the game, you'll be playing the Xbox x version now.
Most likely due to the checkerboarding technique that Sony uses with the PS4 Pro to get it to fake 4K(2160p) when it's around 1800P , I'm playing on the Xbox One X and experiencing no blur. But the game just came out, I'm sure they'll patch it and tighten it up for the Sony ps4 pro.👍

I have a pro, my bro has a one x. It looks fantastic on both. Side by side the x looks great. But it's not noticeable unless side by side.
One thing that surprised me was watching it on a 4K TV while my son played - looked great, as per your videos - the surprise was when he decided to play the game using the streaming option to his PC (1080p) - the 4K TV output did not seem to change whatsoever! So essentially it was rendering the 4K output, AND sending a 1080p session to a PC. Maybe your testing tools will show a performance hit, maybe something to test?
If DigitalFoundry uses something like a capture card between the console and the TV, it shouldn't affect rendering performance in any way as the signal is captured from between.
The capture card itself might have issues - sure, but then you'd imagine all systems across the board would have similar issues on all games.

Battlefront 2, Fortnite, Overwatch, bfV etc has 2-4 times higher resolution than pro and higher settings. This is nothing unusual.

As this game doesn't seem to have the same situation as the first Red Dead Redemption, where they couldn't bring it to PC because of how they coded the game and could only be played on the Xbox 360 and PS3, at least that's what I heard as to why it wasn't developed for that platform.
