So I have these kinds of problems (2011 Mazda5) but they come and go. Also the engine light is sometimes on and sometime off. Specifically, everything will be working fine and then, usually during a long drive: 1) Gears will not automatically shift 2) I move to manual shifting and sometimes that helps for a while 3) Often it will stick in 5th gear at this point even if I try to manually shift 4) The panel may flicker or show nothing And then the problem will often go away on the next drive. I have a cheap OBD2 reader which confirms LOSS of communication with TCM. I took it to a local garage and they tried to fix it but did not succeed. I'm guessing either: 1) that the fact that the problem comes and goes makes it harder for them to find the problem and be sure that they fixed it 2) OR they are looking at the wrong place and the TCM is fine but something else causes this intermittent communication problem.
This is a common issue for Mazda 3 for this year range. The TCM unit is starting to slowly fail and causing these issues. The transmission is almost always good, the TCM is mounted directly on the transmission and the heat transfers from the transmission directly to the TCM unit causing it to fail. We do offer a TCM repair service and an exchange as well
I had my TCM replaced by Upfix and it fixed my shifting issues. saved me a lot of money. I have 1 question. Can driving on a faulty TCM cause speed sensors to become faulty? I ask because my 2010 mazda5 still has a hard kick into 1st gear (this is also after getting the transmission rebuilt recently as well) and the speed sensors are the only thing in my mind that could still be the problem
The sensors won’t go faulty by a bad TCM. However, continuous hard shifting can degrade the life of the transmission assembly itself. It’s best to get the TCM as soon as possible, especially if there is hard shifts present or the vehicle is already in limp mode.
Have a 2008 mazda 5 with a issue of a hard forward engagement at times and sometimes it goes in Normally with no problem, trans has been gone through and solenoids have been replaced and valve body rebuilt question is have you guys had many complaints about this problem

I'm looking into ordering this part. Personally don't have the knowledge of replacing the TCM myself. Thought about taking it to a Mazda dealership and have them install it. Probably not the best idea, but there isn't anyone I know or trust that can do this for my vehicle.
So the dealership can install it, but we recommend your remove it yourself and install it as you will save yourself quite a lot of money. $500+. You certainly can have them remove it for you and then send it to us to repair. Just make sure when they reinstall it they don't mount it where the previous one was or you could get the same problems again. I went on line to order this TCM but the price is not what you state on the video, plus there is a$100 upcharge for TCM programing/update that you must get when buying this part
If you send your original for repair then it is just repair cost. If you need one immediately then there is a refundable charge and programming fee to your vehicle.
"I have a Mazda 5 from 2010 with an automatic transmission. Sometimes, when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear, or when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd gear, there are loud clunking noises and the car vibrates severely. It's especially difficult for the car to shift from 2nd to 3rd gear. The issue also occurs occasionally when shifting into reverse gear."

We did a drain and fill with a filter as well but no slipping or anything crazy that we would consider transmission related.
Hi, I have a problem, the cruise control stopped working on my mazda 3, the master said that it is tied to the tcm block and needs to be repaired, tell me is it so? I have a 2010 Mazda 3 2.0 and it recently got a AT light and a check engine light with the code p2709 shift solenoid f electronic. When going into reverse there’s a hard kick, and it won’t let me check what gear it’s on when in Manual mode. It’ll just say “M”, Should I start with the solenoide or what’s your thought?
Is the Shift Solenoid electrical fault could be a TCM issue aswell? Symptoms was hard kick on R and shift to 3rd gear even when I put on ditectly to D. Tried erasing the code it was ok for a bit but then after couple minutes of drive fault comes back again. Please let me know if it is related to TCM issue.
More often than not, the TCM itself is actually at fault not the solenoids. Especially if you're getting the DTC codes that are commonly related to the TCM failing. UpFix has all the codes listed on the website that you can check out right on the product page. If those codes are the ones showing on your scanner chances are, the TCM will need to be rebuilt.

First, we would need to know the year of the vehicle. Depending on the year, we would know if the vehicle has a TCM or not and once the hard codes are provided, we can assist in troubleshooting further. The symptoms described means the car is currently in limp mode.
I have a 2008 Mazda 5. I know it’s already 14 years old, but seeing if I can hang onto it longer. Currently the AT warning likes go on for a few seconds and then turns off. Hi I have a problem with a Mazda 3 2006. The gear lights start blinking and the transmission works at a constant speed but if you put on gas it starts to jerk and feels faulty. I get no AT light on or any fault code. I am really lost here any help or suggestion will be highly appreciated.
I would recommend getting it scanned with a good scan tool that way if there are hard faults an decent scanner should pick it up. 2006 was the first year of that body style. Some early Mazda 3 2006 units don't have a TCM especially if it's a 2.0L engine. If yours is a 2.3L, chances are you have a TCM that simply needs to be rebuilt if it wasn't done already.
My son owns a 2006 Mazda 5 automatic transmission. He needs to warm the engine before start shifting in to Drive, if not the AT light will turn ON and the numbers starts scribbling. The ATF and filter has been changed. We tried to locate the TCM. everything that we watch is located under the battery, but there is no TCM there. Is there any other place where the TCM is located. Thank you. Keep safe.
I have the same problem. I changed my transmission oil and nothing. Mine started switching gears as I was driving. Then just jumping everywhere. I read it might be the transmission solenoid. I bought one rebuild threw Amazon for 75$. Going to do this tomorrow hopefully. I’ll let you know how it goes.
It usually takes about a few days before we ship you a good working exchange part, it also all depends on your part number. Some part numbers we have plenty in stock and can ship to you same day and other part numbers are harder to come around and we are constantly getting cores back and try to turn them as quickly as possible.
Hello, my 2013 mazda5 is been acting up for a while. Every once in a while, my transmission will shift gears for no reason a and i will get AT sign on my dash. Could u plz tell me what it is and how to fix it.
I recommend going to read the codes with a diagnostic tool. Could very well be your Transmission Control Module as they are notorious for going out in your model of car. We can repair the control module if that is the issue.
I sent my TCM for fixing.. it's now 2 weeks. I was only contacted once that my product was an hold actually on the day it was supposed to have been completely fixed. After that I was given a 3 days of completion affirmation that it will be ready. 5 days later and I have heard nothing.
Normally it's 1-2 business days turnaround. If there are any delays you should've received an email from UpFix stating if there was a hold on the order. I'd reach out to UpFix and find out if your issue wasn't resolved already.
@@upfixauto THANK you UP-FIX. My TCM was installed back in to the car and it's working so well ever since. It's now 2 months gone since I have been using it.
it's Mazda 5 2009 So I'm having a problem with my car so I start the car and put it into drive let go of the brake and step on the gas and instead of driving off it just rev when I step on the gas any Idea
Would be good to know the codes first. Vehicle not moving at all when in drive is either faulty TCM, solenoid issue or something physical like transmission going out or not enough fluids. Sometimes when it’s that severe it’ll only go in reverse but not drive.
Took my 2011 Mazda 3 to get a transmission rebuild because I noticed some issues with the transmission it was slipping and jumping and the AT light came on. I just got my car back not even a day and the AT light came on and when I put the car in reverse it started to jump. When I’m driving it doesn’t jump or slip. Do you have any ideas what could it be?
Transmission that was rebuilt was original? If not, I’d check if the TCM is original or matches and if it has ever been rebuilt. If your light is on, then best to scan for codes will help pinpoint the issue.
No not original. The car was driving fine when I got it back but the rpm’s went crazy all of a sudden when I was barely going 20-25 mph and the AT light came on. I turned off the car i waited a few hours the AT light went away but I took the car for a drive again and the same thing happened again the rpm’s went crazy and the AT light came back on.
RPM reving sounds like the gear is slipping. Either the replacement transmission has a bad TCM or the transmission had an issue during the install. On that year range Mazda 3 and Mazda 5, transmission is usually okay and problem with TCM. Very common issue for TCM to fail and make it seem like transmission is slipping. We do rebuild TCMs, here is more info: www.upfix.com/product/tcm-mazda-3-2006-2014-transmission-control-module-repair-tcm-tcu/
If you got a new/used PCM. First make sure the part number of the replacement part is same as your original part number. Then you may need to have it additionally programmed. That can be done with a diagnostic scan tool.
Well then that means, the problem was not with TCM and elsewhere. Please make sure to properly diagnose the issue and make sure problem is with TCM, before you send it in for repair. Dont send it for repair if your TCM is good.

Although, I checked the transmission oil and it's black and stinks as if it was burned 😳
Not sure what to do 🙁
Hi I have a problem with a Mazda 3 2006.
Great answer Ernest!
Thank you. Keep safe.
If you have one, it will be under the battery. Yes, we have also heard and come across some Mazda 5's that dont have the TCM unit.
Hi, is the Mazda premacy Japanese and the Mazda 5 TCM compatible
No they are not, this is one of the common questions that we get.
If i do the exchange program how quickly will i get the new part? I got a hot date next weekend and need my car running asap
It usually takes about a few days before we ship you a good working exchange part, it also all depends on your part number. Some part numbers we have plenty in stock and can ship to you same day and other part numbers are harder to come around and we are constantly getting cores back and try to turn them as quickly as possible.
Why is Mazda 5 2015 not part of the affected model? 2012-2015 Mazda 5 are the same generation right?
Yes the 2015 is affected as well

@@245artist After 10 days.. it was fixed.
Sorry for delay we were experiencing an increasing demand on Mazda 3 TCM repairs and were hiring and training new techs for this repair.
@@upfixauto THANK you UP-FIX. My TCM was installed back in to the car and it's working so well ever since. It's now 2 months gone since I have been using it.
The delay for me has been even longer. I'm still hoping Upfix can come through.
it's Mazda 5 2009 So I'm having a problem with my car so I start the car and put it into drive let go of the brake and step on the gas and instead of driving off it just rev when I step on the gas any Idea
Hey upfix I just get new pcm but the light stil one not work what should do please
If you got a new/used PCM. First make sure the part number of the replacement part is same as your original part number. Then you may need to have it additionally programmed. That can be done with a diagnostic scan tool.
Any chance you know how to fix/where to start with a p0791 code (intermediate shaft speed sensor)
Recently replaced my TCM and now this code appears
No sorry, not familiar with this code
Hi i have a cuestion sorry my name jesus my question is wen replacing tcm nee to be programed
We're is the tcm on a 2005 mazda3 2.3 hatchback?
It is on top left (driver side) corner, under the battery. Here is the part removal video for a Mazda 3 ruclips.net/video/y_OXCUi2CKQ/видео.html
does anyone know if the 2014 Skyactive 6-speed automatic 2.0l suffer from this TCM issue?
What codes are you getting?
Were is TCM for Mazda Demoi zj engine 2003?
Should be under the battery
Only mazda from 2006 and over can be fixed. Have a 2004 mazda 3 with same problem.
Hi. Are you shipping to UK?
No, not at this time
Hey what if it has the same problems once I’ve replaced it?
Well then that means, the problem was not with TCM and elsewhere. Please make sure to properly diagnose the issue and make sure problem is with TCM, before you send it in for repair. Dont send it for repair if your TCM is good.
