Your are a very good auto mechanic. You showed every steps and explain them so clearly even my grandma could understand well. Keep on doing and sharing car maintenance videos. Thank you for your hard work.
I just finished my 2021 Mazda CX 30 AWD Turbo trans oil change and filter and gasket. Ordered Blauparts kit with FX oil. Worked fine...Trans holds 8 liters and only 4 liters and 150 ml came out. So I ordered more FX Fluid to flush more out in a week or two. Watched this video first was good. Measuring what came out is key.
I have a CX 30 , will replace transmission fluid at every 60,000 miles would rather have 300;00 miles as a lifetime of my car rather than 150,000 miles. Thanks so much for your video.
Great video, you kind of explain things "idiot proof" way, you don't skip steps assuming they are self-understood. When inserting the new filter, you make sure the sound of the click is included. This is a school example of how-to video.
Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it that you observed those things. For me, it's better to do it that way since not everyone can easily understand the process.
Another mechanic on RUclips pointed out that transmission filters like this one are designed to only catch metal fragments and particles, not the fine stuff that an oil filter is made for. He also said that, unlike an engine oil filter that is under pressure, a transmission filter has no pressure on it. For these reasons he says it's totally unnecessary to replace the filter, and therefore removing the pan is also not needed. Drain and fill only -- unless you're having problems with the transmission.
For sure, but if you've got access to the filter, you might as well change it especially if you know it hasn't been touched in 40k+ mi! Lol I'm so behind on my maint. schedule.
Thanks for this video, this is very helpful. Changing atf and filter on mazda biante 2017 model is almost same procedure of this. I did not remove air filter housing, I've just remove the cover under the engine, removed the dipstick and used small funnels and long hose to fill atf oil. I've used soft scotch brite to remove the silicone in the oil pan.
thanks for showing the location of the dip stick. "looks dirty" and actually "dirty" are two different animals. sometimes fluid will change color (darken) when exposed to heat, but is still technically good as far as the active ingredients/chemical makeup go. the only real way to tell if the "dirty" looking fluid is actually bad is to have it tested to see if the active/chemical bits are still in sufficient quantities. Yes, I agree in changing the fluid after a specific amount of time/distance driven; but you can't always go on looks or color.
Thank you. Certainly yes, I agree. My bad. Here, we don't have a laboratory that test fluids. Therefore, we just normally just based on mileage and color.
Very interesting,I have a 2 liters CX-30 but I think it is almost the same.My Mazda dealer told me that it is NOT RECOMMENDED to change the oil,of course I don't believe him.He told me that it is impossible to found the same oil....crazy.So,I give you a tomb, because I was waiting for this kind of video
Good video. there's no need to go through the manual mode gears. nothing happens unless vehicle speed reaches key thresholds to allow an upshift. Also, remember that replacing the pan fluid, isn't changing ALL the fluid in the transmission. the torque converter holds a lot of fluid, and it isn't released when you drop the pan. I'll often do a straight fluid change (old filter in place), drive for 20mins, then another oil change (still old filter), drive again, and then on the third oil change - also do the filter. and consider the service complete. or do your version, but more often. perhaps 30-40,000kms.
I highly agree. That is such a great insight. It is true about the torque converters on these Japanese cars and there's nothing can be done to remove the entire fluid in the system except the ones you suggested which will gradually change most of the fluid inside. Thank you so much. That is indeed an excellent way of replacing the fluid.
Awesome vid, thank you so much. I dont trust the oil depot doing this job and some places want $ 160 to $200 just to replace the oil, not the filter. Why dont you trust and use the dipstick?
Thanks for video. I just got a 2015 Mazda 3 skyactive. And wanted to service the transmission. Thanks to you I now know how and what I need to do it. With 180k miles. I’m sure it due a service. Thanks again Shawn.
Fantastic video and you really look like you do a thorough job. Really clean and didn't go overboard with the RTV Lifetime fluid means that... If the fluid shortens the life of the 'box so be it! Madness when there's a drain plug and filller - they could charge you to channge the fluid every 2-3 years and make extra money!
Only issue with that is you would get mechanics also offering the slightly pricier but "more thorough" oil flush, which can do more harm than having left the old fluid untouched. All you want to do is a drain and fill, never a flush as it can dislodge safely deposited debris and potentially leave it in more sensitive locations.

Awesome video, very well explained, the patient step-by-step manner was much appreciated! You are right, there is no such thing as lifetime transmission or transaxle fluid. Maybe in years past ,you could trust the car manufacturers to give you the proper fluid change intervals, but not any more. Whether it’s oil ,transmission ,or brake fluid, etc., you have to do your own research and talk to various mechanics The greedy carmakers, do not want your car to last, or they do just until your warranty runs out What a world we live in
Interesting video, Draft. Thank you for your kindness and informative videos. And Scotty Kilmer agree with you on changing the aut. transmission fluid :)
Hjorte, you took the words right out of my mouth. Btw, it should be obvious that every fluid needs changing over time. And so in my humble opinion it should not take a Scotty Kilmer to tell us that. It should be OBVIOUS. Anyway, i like his video as well. :)
hermano, busco ayuda , estoy desesperado! sabes donde esta el Sensor de presion de fluido de la transmision? tengo que remplazarlo y no se donde esta localizado
Very good video. Simple tools! One slight change is that on the refill, just use a clean cup and portion out the 2.5 cups needed right into the funnel. All good!
Hi! Excellent video. Can you please explain how to detect the right filter? For Mazda 3, 2013-2019 It looks like there are 2 different filters, see part # FZ01-21-500 and # FZ11-21-500.
I have a 2012 Mazda 2 on 84k. Not sure if the transmission oil has been changed. Was thinking of doing it in the next two months. Your video gave me great insight on how I will need to do it. Thanks!
The oil you removed was not excessively dirty and the oil filter and mag drain plug is designed to keep that debris out of the trans fluid and you claim you purchased this vehicle with already substantial mileage but don't them mention your car had covered 300,000 KM's when this video took place.. @@DraftProject
Thank you. I have a model 3 - 2019. Can i use fluid from other producents? found this one LIQUI MOLY ATF top tec 1800. It says it's compatible with MAZDA ATF FZ. However, the Mazda manual does not specify anything other than the original ATF.
I just fill the transmission fluid less than 4 ltrs, it is about 3.7-3.9 ltrs. And when i checked the dipstick after warm up the engine, i see the fluid is between the two marks, it is under the top mark about 2 milimeters. Is that true?
I see leak oil on the below board of your car. How to repair that? Is that come from rear crankshaft seal? Could you make a video to diagnose and how to solve it?
I wasn't sure about that yet. Perhaps it could have been an excess oil that has been accidentally poured in the dealership. But I will check it soon. Thank you
Very great video and in detail. I have to do the same thing on our Mazda 3. If there is gasket on oil pan, do I still need to use RTV Silicon? New subscriber
Not necessarily needed. But it's not bad to use it. RTV silicon helps seal oil pans especially if the surface of where the gasket will be place has scratches. If you are going to use it, make it clean as possible, avoid any excess RTV silicon.
We just bought a used 2017 CX-5 and the previos owner had the transmission serviced but it looks like they used a red universal likely Valvoling Maxlife ATF which says it meets Mazda FX spec but seems thicker as I am shocked at how watery Mazda FZ blue fluid is.
Great job!! How much do you tighten each bolt? So you dont have to let the silicone gasket cure? You can just start adding fluid right after you're done tightening the bolts? 🙏😊
Sorry I couldn't provide torque specs since I don't have an access on service manual of this vehicle. I just tighten it by feel. I make it snug with the right tension or feel. You can tighten it and let it sit for a bit. Then retighten it for the gasket to press and seal. After tightening the bolts, just let the gasket dry for a bit. Then add transmission fluid. Hope it helps. Thanks man!
I asked the same to my dealership for my CX-5 2012. They are a bit more reasonablr about it, they told me thay Mazda Bulletin told them it's lifetime for skyactive model but recommend to check at 120,000 km. They said since Japanese car "lifetime" for them is normally about 5 years. After the 120,000 km passed .They then schedule for me to change the fluid at 140,000 km.
I see. It seems like the word "lifetime" shouldn't be taken generally by definition. Maybe most people in Japan or in other countries change their cars after 5 years. Those years are the maximum usage of the vehicle and meant to be replace with a new one. Thank you very much for this information.
Very good video and love the jazz soundtrack...the only thing missing are the torque values for the drain plug, oil pan bolts, and the filter bolt. ALWAYS check the shop manual for proper torques!!
Thank you very much for that. Sorry, unfortunately, I don't have a video for that. Perhaps soon once I got the opportunity to do that. Also, sorry. It has been a long time since you had requested this video. I wasn't able to edit sooner due to many setbacks along the way. I really appreciate your support. Thank you.
Unfortunately, I don't have a service manual for this job, so I couldn't provide. My torque wrench is too big to set these things. Sorry about it. Thank you very much!
The Torque for the pan bolts is between 8 and 10 N/m. For the filterbolts I sugest to do the same as it has only to hold the filter in place. The torque for the drain plug I don't know. Strange enough my drainplug did not have a gasket/washer.
Hi nice video. I have mazda 3 but not skyactive, i have 1.6 liter mazda-3 2016 model. And now its driven for 100k kms. When shall i change its transmission oil? And a mazda mechanic here in Riyadh told me that there is a common iasue of transmission failures such as slippage etc in mazda-3 after oil change, so he suggested me to drive and no need to change. Can u plz suggest??
Hello...We have a Mazda Biante 2017 model. I want to check the level of automatic transmission oil but I cannot find the dipstick...any help please? Thank you...
Hi, I am not familiar of Mazda Biante. I searched for it and found that this is a vehicle equipped with a Skyactiv engine. If thats the case then, I would suggest you to remove the air intake box assembly. The dipstick might be there underneath the air intake box assembly which is pretty common for Mazda's with Skyactiv engine.
When I try to run the engine with the air box off so that I can check fluid level the engine will run very rough and seems like it’s about to kill. Did yours do this? I ended up just estimating level with engine off cuz it killed the first time I tried it and the second time I left it on for about ten seconds before shutting it back off. The whole car was shaking from how rough the engine was idling and it did not sound good at all. I thought maybe it was the engine being “shocked” by the extreme increase in air flow so even tried starting it with air box on then very slowly pulled air box hose off of throttle body in hopes that it would allow the engine to slowly adjust to higher air flow and not run rough like it did before but as soon as the air box hose was removed about a third of the way off throttle body it started doing same thing.
What I did is I removed the lower part of the intake box and left the upper part. It is very important to leave the upper part because the ECU needs the signal of the MAF sensor. You can see on the upper intake box, there is a built-in sensor. This is very important because this measures the air flow of the intake system. Once disconnected, the ECU will be confused, leaving the engine idling very rough. Try to leave the upper part. It may be hard but it's the only way to go. You just have to carefully reach for the dipstick. Actually, this is normally done on a car lifter. But in our case, we don't have that kind of access not unless you can jack the whole car very high. Hope it helps. Thanks a lot!
Engine oil can be called lifetime fluid too if you expect it to die in 50k miles or less. It’s a horrible trend in new cars to call transmission fluid lifetime.
Thank you for the helpful vid, at 13min when reinstalling the oil pan, is the rubber gasket already being held in place with sealant on the transmission housing?
@@vanquishstorm3806 I do encounter some replacement part which is a rubber gasket for this Skyactiv transmissions. I'm not sure if they do really work since Mazda originally didn't put one. For early models like yours, I'm not that sure since I haven't worked on 2010 models yet. I suggest to put some RTV silicone too along with the rubber gasket to make sure that it is properly sealed.
The dealer i bought my mazda 2 told me that the warranty is till 150.000/6 years but it advised that fluid might be change at 180.000 km. In the service i think there is the check of fluid status/color. I would not advise ti change fluid vefore warranty honestly.
Hello, where did you get the RTV silicone from? the dealer or on line? Is it a Mazda brand RTV? thank you for your video. Oh when checking the fluid dip stick is it when the car motor is off or on?
I just bought it from a physical automotive store. You can buy it online too. It doesn't have to be Mazda RTV silicone. When it comes to checking of fluid level, yes. The engine should be running when checking the fluid level.
the new oil looks nice! the transmission will appreciate new oil! I don't know why Mazda agencies never want to do this service "lifetime oil"... are you kidding me?
Perhaps some kind of old marketing or ways to please the consumers, believing that new technologies are in a new level and don't require such maintenance. Therefore, increasing sales. Still, whatever happens, machines do wear and tear. Just like humans, everything needs tender loving care to last.
I'm not exactly sure about it since we don't have a 1.3 variant here. But as a general rule and if it has the same year range model, yes. These would always have the same transmission but has different ratios and engine.
I'm really sorry, I'm not sure about. We don't have the Diesel version here. Probably it's best to ask the dealership for that. Here is the part number of the transmission filter. Part number: FZ11-21-500
Hey Draft, thank you for making this tutorial so helpful! Question for you, I want to do two drain and fills because my 2012 Mazda 2 in total has almost 8 quarts but I know I won't be able to get them all out with just one drain. My question is, how long do I have to wait in between drains to do the secound drain? Should I first do the 1st drain and refill, then Drive for 20minutos and then do the secound drain but this time also change the fliter and clean the pan? What do you suggest? Thank you!
Thanks for commenting! For your question, 15-20 minutes drive should do. That's actually a good plan. That will totally clean the transmission. As for our recommendation, changing transmission filters should be done if the vehicle has reach 50,000 Km. If it only reached 25,000 on the clock, it is not necessary to change the filter, not unless if the vehicle has been bought used and you want to change it since you don't have any ideas on what the previous owner did to the vehicle. Also, another exception is if you want it to be totally clean, then go for it. I would do the same thing if I were in the same case. Hope it helps. Sorry for the late response. Thanks and take care.
Hey, the Mazda Owner's Manual states that the capacity of Skyactiv G 1.5L has the capacity of 7.2L of transmission oil. Your method only use around 4.6L. How do you justify the volume? Can the oil volume inside the transmission (filter + pan), actually decreased due to wear and tear, thus you need to refill full 7.2L, or simply 4.6L considered as adequate (though, not ideal, perhaps??)
Wonderful video. But I could not get Genuine Mazda atf FZ. Only found Castrol Transmax ATF Z and Febi Bilstein Automatic Transmission Fluid. Do you recommend it or delay it until I find genuine one?
I would delay it until I found an original one because it's hard to rely on it since these transmissions are delicate and sensitive. Even though these are well made brand of ATF, there is no assurance that these will work perfectly.
I have a 2020 CX5 with 190k km on mine. Would you recommend changing the transmission oil now? And what tips could you give me in this case? Thank you 🙏🏼
On my 2017 Mazda 3 2.0l (probably same engine) I had the dealership check what is “lifetime”. They said it should be changed at 180k. So yeah, probably you should. Mine is at 120k now and I am going to change it already. I want to use it for many years.
Unfortunately, I couldn't answer that since I don't have a service manual. Sorry for that. I always recommend measuring the drained fluid, so you will have an idea on how much fluid you need to pour into your transmission. Based on my experience, sometimes they drain from 3.5 to 4 liters for this vehicle.
Hi, do you know how to identify bad drive shaft inner and outer on the left side? I experience sound on my car left side, tierod, rackend, ball joint, stabilizer link, strut bearing and strut mount has been replaced with the new one. But the sound persist. Thank you
A bad outer drive shaft has a clunking sound when turning left or right. For the inner, sorry, I haven't had a broken inner drive joints before. Inner drive joints have three bearings and the housing wears out overtime which causes a play and a rough movement of the car. I guess it's better to check first all of the bolts underneath. Also, make sure that there are no things inside the car that can cause noises. Maybe try checking your engine mounts too.
Do you know what solenoid would cause a delay when going from park to drive and then slippage between all gears at higher RPM? No delay going park to reverse. Shifting manually seems fine.
Sorry, I'm not sure on what could it be. I haven't experienced it before. On older Mazda vehicles, there would be a solenoid on top of the transmission. I heard they clean it to fix the problems of delayed engagements.
Ok, but what an utterly complicated and un-necessary rigmarole for refilling. Here's the simple way. Drop all of the old TF from the pan and filter into the container. Measure it (4Li + 2.5 cups). Pour 4 li+ 2.5 cups into the funnel. Dah daaa!
Do I need to wait till the gasket are fully dried and cured before adding in the fluid? Or I can just add in the fresh fluid and wait it cured then start the last process?
I work as a professional Automotive technician for the last 28 years if fluid is dirty it's getting changed, there is no such thing as lifetime, just like there is no thing as paint and primer, when it comes to paint it's nothing but a gimmick
@@ifuwantsomecomegetit Yes but there's stupid folks out there who take it as oh lifetime and never change it! So it's still a confusing and dumb way to advertise in my opinion especially for those automotivly challenged!!!!
Thanks for sharing! I was watching a Scotty Kilmer video about him saying not to fully flush out a transmission , and that it’s better to just drain what you can and fill. Is this considered a full flush? And what are your thoughts on that? I just bought a 2024 Mazda cx5, and just trying to do my research as to help keep it running smoothly for a long time. He was working on a Honda with a CVT though ,and if I just drain and fill, I’m worried about the filer itself. Any input would help greatly!
Thank you for your comment! This is not a full flush. This is only a simple drain of transmission. On some vehicles, they have drain bolts on the torque converter which leads you to a full flush of transmission fluid. Draining by removing the drain bolt of the transmission pan does not remove all of the ATF inside the transmission. There will always be some old fluid left, especially on the torque converter. Congratulations on your new vehicle! Always check your odometer to keep track of your maintenance. For transmission oil change, we recommend following this interval. 25000 Km - Drain and refill only 50000 Km - Change of transmission filter / Drain and refill Based on our experience, especially with regards to Mazda's Skyactiv transmissions, they are prone to knockback and jerky motion after and beyond reaching 60000 - 70000 Km. Maintaining it's ATF fresh through the following interval helped prevent and even remove those problems. Also, it is also a good idea to check your owner's manual as it contains maintenance schedules too. Hope it helps. Thank you and take care!
Este es nuestro intervalo recomendado para el trabajo del fluido de transmisión: 25,000 Km - Drenar y rellenar solo 50,000 Km - ATF y cambio de filtro In English Translation: Here is our recommended interval for transmission fluid job: 25,000 Km - Drain and Refill only 50,000 Km - ATF and Filter Change
Some of the aspects and other concepts applies, so yes. The only thing that makes a difference is that Grand Touring has different engine, so it could have different parts, fluid level and others. But it still has an FZ transmission since it has a Skyactiv engine.
Nope. It was only a local brand. It is good with high temperature and resistant to oil and other fluids. Not the best silicone I had, but it works pretty well. That brand would be better than mine. Sorry, I forgot the name of the silicone. Perhaps try searching for Permatex that are well suited for oil pans. The original sealant used in this Mazda is a red RTV silicone.
Sorry, I couldn't provide the torque specs since I don't have a service manual for this job. Some of the resources in the video are sourced from the internet and forums.
@@DraftProject It's frustrating that the Mazda manuals have very limited information on servicing. I have a Mazda CX-30 AWD 2021 and I often have to cross-reference to different models/years to get things somewhat close to what manufacturer recommends. It's a good thing I have a bit of experience from other DIYs otherwise it would've been a nightmare since there's not many videos either (almost none at all for CX-30 AWD). Hello i just bought mazda 3 2014 running with high mileage 360000km , I want to chang the transmission oil is that good idea? I have no idea if the transmission oil has been changed before or not !
Definitely yes. If done correctly with the right type of fluid, it will prolong the lifespan of your transmission and have smoother and better results.
Hi again... You are unbolting a lot of nuts in your Mazda 2 videos. How do you know how hard to torque the nuts, when you put things togeter again? (Such as caliber nuts etc.) Where can I read all of these torque specs for all the nuts in this car? 🙂
Hello! Unfortunately, I don't have a service manual for this vehicle. I estimated the torque of the nuts by feel only. Through experience, I got used to it by estimating without the use of torque wrench. All of the torque specs can only be found in a service manual of this vehicle. Perhaps there would be someone on the internet selling service manuals for this Mazda 2. I hope this helps in some ways.
Is this exactly the same as a 2019 cx-9 ? Thanks for the video, it's clear and concise and if makes me feel I could do it. ( if it's exactly the same as a 2019 cx-9)
I haven't handled a CX-9 model before but since skyactiv engines are pretty similar on every models, they could share the same concept, although not exactly the same. Thank you very much!
This does not remove all of the old fluid so new is mixed with old. About 50/50. Some shops have a proper machine where the oil cooler line is disconnected and the machine inserted, engine started, then new fluid is added as old is removed until full exchange. I did this on my Nissan Titan, drain the pan, refill. Then disconnect oil cooler inlet hose and let engine pump about half of what came out of oil pan and put that amount back. Repeat until fluid is clear.
I agree. I guess you are using an ATF flushing dialysis machine. It works well since it gets all of the old fluid out of the transmission. Effortless and gets the job done perfectly and precise. The only thing to concern with it is that the transmission filter is still the same. It would be better to replace the filter too.

Thanks for the info. Something worthy to look for and study.
Thank you very much!
I never heard of that and it sounds funny.
Always take care!
Good video.
there's no need to go through the manual mode gears. nothing happens unless vehicle speed reaches key thresholds to allow an upshift.
Thanks Shawn!! Good luck and take care as always.
I WOULD NOT change 180,000 mile trans fluid if it's never been changed.
Lots of transmissions will slip and run rough if u do.
If it starts slipping, just add some Lucas Oil Transmission Fix. That stuff is magic.
Fantastic video and you really look like you do a thorough job. Really clean and didn't go overboard with the RTV
Lifetime fluid means that... If the fluid shortens the life of the 'box so be it! Madness when there's a drain plug and filller - they could charge you to channge the fluid every 2-3 years and make extra money!
Yeah, that's one thing to consider too, so these people could make extra money.
Thank you very much!
Very thorough job! You could eat your dinner off that oil pan.
Yeah, it is a nasty job haha. Quite tiring to do so.

For the transmission filter, unfortunately I couldn't find one. Sorry about that. A lot of them are replacement parts which I don't recommend. Just choose genuine OEM parts only.
Sometimes it can be difficult to find parts online. Also, it can be expensive or cost more due to shipping fee. The best way is to go to your nearest Mazda dealership and order the ATF fluid and filter.
Just remember this when going to the dealership to make it easier for you to buy.

Perdón por el largo mensaje. Espero que esto ayude. ¡¡Muchas gracias!! Cuídate como siempre.
Awesome video, very well explained, the patient step-by-step manner was much appreciated!
You are right, there is no such thing as lifetime transmission or transaxle fluid.
Maybe in years past ,you could trust the car manufacturers to give you the proper fluid change intervals, but not any more.
Whether it’s oil ,transmission ,or brake fluid, etc., you have to do your own research and talk to various mechanics
The greedy carmakers, do not want your car to last, or they do just until your warranty runs out
What a world we live in
Yeah, truly terrible. Everything is made to be broken, so take care of it to make it last. Thank you so much! Take care.
Interesting video, Draft. Thank you for your kindness and informative videos. And Scotty Kilmer agree with you on changing the aut. transmission fluid :)
I love your comment. I really appreciate it. Thank you so much!!
Hjorte, you took the words right out of my mouth.
Btw, it should be obvious that every fluid needs changing over time.
And so in my humble opinion it should not take a Scotty Kilmer to tell us that. It should be OBVIOUS.
Anyway, i like his video as well.
:)
So if you have to remove the airbox to get to the dip stick then how to you run the vehicle to check the fluid level on dip stick?
Really glad I watched this all the way through before popping off my atf pan. I need silicone.
Thanks! Good luck!
hermano, busco ayuda , estoy desesperado! sabes donde esta el Sensor de presion de fluido de la transmision? tengo que remplazarlo y no se donde esta localizado
Very good video. Simple tools! One slight change is that on the refill, just use a clean cup and portion out the 2.5 cups needed right into the funnel. All good!
Thanks for doing this video
Thank you for the feedback and advice too!
This was an AMAZING video. Thank You!!!! I love the way you went into detail. I'm more confident now.
Thank you so much! You can do it too! Take care and good luck!
Thanks!
Good luck! Keep safe. Thank you!
The oil you removed was not excessively dirty and the oil filter and mag drain plug is designed to keep that debris out of the trans fluid and you claim you purchased this vehicle with already substantial mileage but don't them mention your car had covered 300,000 KM's when this video took place.. @@DraftProject
I have mazda 6 2013. Need the engine is running while checking the level of the fluid thru deep stick?
you can soften the silicone with brake cleaner (toluene, xylene ect) and it will come off very easily almost by itself.
I have never tried that before. Thanks a lot! I will try that next time.
Thank you. I have a model 3 - 2019. Can i use fluid from other producents? found this one LIQUI MOLY ATF top tec 1800. It says it's compatible with MAZDA ATF FZ. However, the Mazda manual does not specify anything other than the original ATF.
For me, It's better to stick with Mazda ATF FZ just to be sure. It's not worth risking since Mazda ATF are sensitive and expensive.
completely agree with this gentleman
I just fill the transmission fluid less than 4 ltrs, it is about 3.7-3.9 ltrs. And when i checked the dipstick after warm up the engine, i see the fluid is between the two marks, it is under the top mark about 2 milimeters. Is that true?
How’s the performance? Mazda dealer here in our area said I only need 3.5L but this one shows more than 4L. Wow
@@teejaysalgado9819 it works well until now. I think 3.5 L is still in range. Just check the dipstick if you are still not sure about that
I see leak oil on the below board of your car. How to repair that? Is that come from rear crankshaft seal? Could you make a video to diagnose and how to solve it?
I wasn't sure about that yet. Perhaps it could have been an excess oil that has been accidentally poured in the dealership. But I will check it soon. Thank you
Best automatic transmission fluid replacement ever. Thank you
How mutch liters of transmision oil do I need for mazda cx-3 2017 ?
H how do you check the level while the engine is running?
Very great video and in detail. I have to do the same thing on our Mazda 3. If there is gasket on oil pan, do I still need to use RTV Silicon? New subscriber
Not necessarily needed. But it's not bad to use it. RTV silicon helps seal oil pans especially if the surface of where the gasket will be place has scratches. If you are going to use it, make it clean as possible, avoid any excess RTV silicon.
If you have 110k and never change the oil, can you still do the oil change for the transmission? 😢😢😢
Yes. Change of new fluid regardless of the Km will always be for the better.
Do you need gasket remover spray solution or just with plastic blade its easy to remove the old one?
how often should I change the oil in the automatic transmission mazda cx-3 2019 121ps petrol, I have driven 59000 km
This is an amazing tutorial! I feel confident now in servicing my own car. 😊
Thank you very much!
Thanks man!
Your video is done very well with CLASS ,it's informative and educational...
Very well done ..
I really appreciate your comment. Thank you so much!
This is really a great series.... Do you also have a video about how to adjust the motor's timing chain tensioner?
Thank you very much for that.
Sorry, unfortunately, I don't have a video for that. Perhaps soon once I got the opportunity to do that.
Also, sorry. It has been a long time since you had requested this video. I wasn't able to edit sooner due to many setbacks along the way. I really appreciate your support. Thank you.
Hi, great video! By any chance, are there any specific torques for the drain bolt, pan bolts and filter bolt?
Yes, always use & check with a torque wrench.
Many lazy & dishonest shops DO NOT use torque wrench.
Just finished changing oil (only) in my Mazda 6, drained only 3.5 quarts (3.31L). Easy job.
That's nice!
Lot of videos of this maintenance, show around 3.5 quarts is removed from dropping pan and filter replacement… So what is the real amount to refill?
You did a superb job my friend! Kudos!
Thank you very much!
@@DraftProject thank you for your reply my friend.
Hello, how many litres i need to buy for my mazda 3 , 2.5 L 2018?
@@DraftProject very helpful. Will do this and check levels again. Thanks so much!
what should i use for Mazda BT -50 2012 model
I have a Mazda 6 2017 Touring. It has about 82K miles. Should I do a transmission oil change?
Engine oil can be called lifetime fluid too if you expect it to die in 50k miles or less. It’s a horrible trend in new cars to call transmission fluid lifetime.
Hi did you have to wait for the RTV silicone to cure or harden? For how long?
Thank you for the helpful vid, at 13min when reinstalling the oil pan, is the rubber gasket already being held in place with sealant on the transmission housing?
Nope. It doesn't have a rubber gasket and it will never have a rubber gasket. It only uses a sealant in between the oil pan and transmission.
@@DraftProject I see.. The filter that I purchased for my 2010 Mazda 3 sport included the rubber gasket.

Did the drain plug gasket come with the filter or did you have to purchase that separately from Mazda?
what are torque specs for all these bolts?
the new oil looks nice! the transmission will appreciate new oil!
Hi I have a 1.3 lt petrol Mazda 2 (called demio in Japan). Will this version take the same parts and transmission fluid?
I'm not exactly sure about it since we don't have a 1.3 variant here. But as a general rule and if it has the same year range model, yes. These would always have the same transmission but has different ratios and engine.
Is the transmission filter the same for the Demio 2015 with 1.5L Skyactiv-D (diesel) engine?
I'm really sorry, I'm not sure about. We don't have the Diesel version here. Probably it's best to ask the dealership for that. Here is the part number of the transmission filter.

Great video!!! Will this be the same on a 2021 CX-30?
The procedures could be the same. Since it has a different engine, it will have a different layout and parts.
@@DraftProject thanks!
Hi I have a Mazda cx 7 2.3 turbo 2010 with the engine clicking noise can you fix it?
If it is clicking noise in the engine, then it could need a valve lash adjustment or perhaps valve lifters are in bad shape.
That was a thin amount of RTV on the pan; did it ever leak or still running strong?
Yeah, it was a thin amount, but we never had problems with it. It never leaked. Still good like how it was before.
One of the best how to videos I’ve seen!
Thank you very much!!
@gusztavkiss thank you for the response. Much appreciated.
For the atf oil, what the manufacture volume?
Unfortunately, I couldn't answer that since I don't have a service manual. Sorry for that. I always recommend measuring the drained fluid, so you will have an idea on how much fluid you need to pour into your transmission. Based on my experience, sometimes they drain from 3.5 to 4 liters for this vehicle.
Thanks for sharing. Now I get the idea of saving some money.
Glad it helped. Thank you!
If you see an oil leak, dont assume what you take out is what fluid you fill again. Always check the dipstick with car running and ATF at 120 degrees.
Is it the same fluid for the diesel model?
Thanks for this man, I've been having some rough gear changes recently. Gonna try and change the transmission fluid tomorrow.
That should do the trick. Thanks too man! Take care!
Actually i have this same exact delay & slippage issue as u mentioned. Have u found out what is causing them? Thanks.
We couldn’t find an easy solution. Ended up selling car.
Ok, but what an utterly complicated and un-necessary rigmarole for refilling. Here's the simple way. Drop all of the old TF from the pan and filter into the container. Measure it (4Li + 2.5 cups). Pour 4 li+ 2.5 cups into the funnel. Dah daaa!
Bro I did this job and I should’ve seen this video first very helpful
Thank you very much! Take care as always
Do I need to wait till the gasket are fully dried and cured before adding in the fluid? Or I can just add in the fresh fluid and wait it cured then start the last process?
Its always better to wait for it to cure first, so it would seal properly. Otherwise, oil can get in between when the gasket is still wet.
I own a 17.5 mazda 6 and no fluid is lifetime. Just rediculous that they advertise it that way. It's common sense!
I work as a professional Automotive technician for the last 28 years if fluid is dirty it's getting changed, there is no such thing as lifetime, just like there is no thing as paint and primer, when it comes to paint it's nothing but a gimmick
@@Americafirst-i8q Yes true, been working on cars since i was a teen and I'm nearly 50 so this stuff makes me laugh!
Its a technically when they say "lifetime". For them, the lifetime of the vehicle is while its under warranty.
@@ifuwantsomecomegetit Yes but there's stupid folks out there who take it as oh lifetime and never change it! So it's still a confusing and dumb way to advertise in my opinion especially for those automotivly challenged!!!!

25000 Km - Drain and refill only
50000 Km - Change of transmission filter / Drain and refill
Based on our experience, especially with regards to Mazda's Skyactiv transmissions, they are prone to knockback and jerky motion after and beyond reaching 60000 - 70000 Km. Maintaining it's ATF fresh through the following interval helped prevent and even remove those problems.
Also, it is also a good idea to check your owner's manual as it contains maintenance schedules too.
Hope it helps. Thank you and take care!

Este es nuestro intervalo recomendado para el trabajo del fluido de transmisión:
25,000 Km - Drenar y rellenar solo
50,000 Km - ATF y cambio de filtro
In English Translation:
Here is our recommended interval for transmission fluid job:
25,000 Km - Drain and Refill only
50,000 Km - ATF and Filter Change
Does this tutorial apply to a 2018 Mazda3 Grand Touring?
Some of the aspects and other concepts applies, so yes. The only thing that makes a difference is that Grand Touring has different engine, so it could have different parts, fluid level and others. But it still has an FZ transmission since it has a Skyactiv engine.
Excellent vid. What type of RTV silicone did you use to re-reseal the pan? Permatex Ultra Grey gasket maker?
The original sealant used in this Mazda is a red RTV silicone.
what is the torque indicated in the manual for tightening each bolt?
Sorry, I couldn't provide the torque specs since I don't have a service manual for this job. Some of the resources in the video are sourced from the internet and forums.
@@DraftProject It's frustrating that the Mazda manuals have very limited information on servicing. I have a Mazda CX-30 AWD 2021 and I often have to cross-reference to different models/years to get things somewhat close to what manufacturer recommends. It's a good thing I have a bit of experience from other DIYs otherwise it would've been a nightmare since there's not many videos either (almost none at all for CX-30 AWD). Thanks a lot for these videos though, they're great help!
Where did you get the transmission filter for your Mazda 2? What part number is it's?
I just bought it at the dealership. Part number is FZ11-21-500.
Fantastic job, very methodical and descriptive.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it
@@DraftProject I found and bought it.... and the torque specs for the timing chain tensioner on Mazda 2, 2015 90 hp automatic :
Timing chain tensioner 8 - 11(Nm)
Timing chain tensioner rail 8 - 11 (Nm)
Timing chain guide rail 8 - 11 (Nm)
Timing cover( Apply sealant ) 20 - 26 (Nm)
Thank you so much for sharing. This would be very helpful for me and for everyone. :)
When you've worked on cars as long as I have you don't need a torque wrench I can feel it in my hands
Same for awd?
It would be better to replace the filter too.
that machine ruin my gearbox..only draine not flush with machine...if the gear are bad after oil change will not work
