  • Hello viewers, hopefully everyone are well. This video I am going to demonstrate how to replace the Transmission fluid ATF FZ & Transmission filter on this Mazda equipped with Skyactiv transmission FW6AEL / FW6AX EL. The car has done 40.000 kms.
    This procedure should be similar with all Mazda equipped with Skyactiv gasoline engine and Automatic transmission.
    Tools & Parts:
    Mazda ATF FZ Fluid
    Mazda Strainer filter FZ 0121 500 / Equivalent OE parts
    Torque wrench Set to 9 - 10 Nm.
    Ratchet with 10mm socket
    Hex drive 8mm
    Liquid gasket RTV Red / Grey
    Please recheck the ATF FZ fluid level once you completed the service and have the vehicle warmed up. It must be leveled on the marking on the dip stick.
    Even though the manual books stated the ATF is lifetime and doesnt need changing i would not recommend to follow because of what i had saw from my transmission service.
    I highly recommend this service and is a must every 40000kms. After the service, the transmission should feel very smooth engaging all the gears. Gives the car a better performance from changing the gears.
    Every 20000kms i recommend to drain n fill service for the transmission.
    I will not held any responsibility if any damage occurs whilst doing this service.
    Enjoy the video, please don’t forget to Like, Share & Subscribe to this channel to give your full support.
    Stay safe guys & will see you again on the next video. Peace

      At 150,000K for first time changing the ATF and filter, I’m concerned about transmission slip if using new fluid, should I be? Some say once the fluid has gone very dark it is better to leave the old fluid to prevent slippage, maybe I will save the old fluid in case I have problems… don’t know how dirty it will be I haven’t cracked her open yet.

    This is so well put together, you sound Aussie like myself bud, the description in the video is so detailed and given some of the horror stories I've heard especially in older mazda versions of Ford 5 speeds I think you're bang on with preventative maintenance at those intervals. I'm hoping the process is similar for the 5 speed in my 2008 sp 23. Looks similar to one I saw but wasn't half as well done as this and video quality wasn't the best either. Most of that gunk stuck to the drain pan magnet is the metal shavings from initial wear-in when the gearbox was new. It definitely doesn’t get that dirty every 40K km’s. I just drained my CX5 atf at 113K miles or almost 200K km’s, and sent a sample to Blackstone labs. They showed the fluid viscosity was still quite good even after that much use. Since only half the fluid comes out, I’m doing 3 drain and refills about 2 weeks apart in order to get a good amount of fresh fluid into the mix.

    • @odjblue
      @odjblue 3 года назад

      And in those fluid changes, you never changed the transmission filter ?

    • @Patrick94GSR
      @Patrick94GSR 3 года назад +1

      @@odjblue I just replaced the filter on the last drain and fill, and resealed the pan. Drained and filled 3.7 quarts the first time, 3.7 the second, and 5 quarts on the third. With a capacity of 8.2 qts, that means only about 11% of the old fluid is left in the system.

    Everyone has to watch out when manufacturers use terms like lifetime fluid. Thats all BS. Fluid wears out and becomes contaminated. Lifetime fluid is a BS term used to make cars breakdown more often. When the transmission does fail you're at fault for not maintaining it lol. All of these manufacturers should be held accountable for this garbage.

    Nice Video Felix.
    However, I observed that you missed installing the green o-ring for the filter. Is it ok? I just changed the transmission fluid three weeks ago. The new filter is equipped with two green o-rings.
    Btw, I bought used car Mazda 6 2014 with the milage around 125000 km. The first owner never changes the transmission fluid because according to Mazda the fluid is a lifetime for the skyactive technology. After long investigation, I decide to change the fluid. The km was 148500 when I change the fluid. So far no issue with the gear system. I advise you to change the fluid before achieving 80,000 km if you want to keep your car for a long time. If your milage is already high (like my case) or above 150000 km, check first the fluid condition. If the fluid too dark, dirty, and very high viscosity, it is better to leave it alone if the transmission is still working, because the change of fluid can cause a slip or the car don't even move on.

    1. Refill the transmission after installing pan.

    I did my 2013 today with 83k, fluid was ok, but needed to be replaced. Not as bad as I have seen it in other cars. Tomorrow I'll start the car and test it out. Ended up using 4qt 8 OZ of fluid.

    For the metrically challenged, 9 Nm is 6.6 Ft-lbs, or 80 in-lbs. This isn't very tight at all, but you're tightening a steel bolt in a cast aluminum housing, so guess which will strip first?!? Hint: The more expensive one.
    I note this because my 1/2 drive digital torque wrench starts at 20 ft.-lbs as the lowest setting, which is over 2x the torque needed.
    Great video series. How many miles/Km with that much sludge and dirty fluid? I thought you did a video about changing the fluid but you didn't have a filter, so that transmission fluid must have got dirty fast. Probably because the filter wasn't changed, and you didn't clean the sludge on the bottom. Transmission fluid generally has a lot of detergent to it.
    Recheck the fluid level after a short drive, after the oil's been circulated a bit. There may be air pockets after the fluid is drained that don't get refilled until after the transmission circulates the fluid.

Please warm up the car first after topping up 4L and you can measure it back using the dipstick measure (grey colour dipstick) and if its leveled properly and at warm operating temp , it should be between the centre marking. Note that ATF levels must always be checked with the engine running, and on this particular gearbox, when the fluid is at 50 deg C or 122 F. This requires some sort of scan tool to verify ATF temp. Note that when the dash blue light turns off, the ATF is still much cooler than 50 C. Calcification on these 3 points would be really appreciated. Thank you, Jim.

    • @FelixDanGarasiAuto
      @FelixDanGarasiAuto  3 года назад +5

      hi Jim, this method im showing is partial change out. if we only do the drain n fill method without replacing the filter you will only need approx 3.5ltr. If you are replacing the filter you will need approx 4.5l of atf fluids. yeap you wont be able to get the whole fluid out as it is stuck in the torque converter. ive seen a video you could do extra mile by draining and fill 2 to 3 times after you do this service to get all the old fluid out as much as possible , but would need to spend more than 5 ltr of atf fz. Yes for initial fluid check the engine must be on but if you have warmed up the car long enough then you can turn it off and check it while is off , i got the same reading with engine on or off (warmed up) . Id like to go over again and do a triple check after the engine have warmed up and top up if neccessary.
