thank you so much!!! I’m currently at Alaska with Tacoma and didn’t know these features need to be changed haha. The rental gave me the only available car and I was clueless! The road is too icy and been driving with 6-7 mph 😢 Thank God for your video!!
Very good explanation, thank you! I’ve had my 2024 Tacoma since April and have never put it in 4WD. With winter weather coming to KY soon, I figured it was time to educate myself. Thanks for posting!
Very informative. I have 2024 tacoma on order. It will be my first ever truck purchase. What’s the best drive mode for light to heavy rainfall, snow, or sleet? Thanks in advance. Do I just keep it in 2H unless I’m off road? 🧐🤔
Thanks! This is my first truck too. In rainfall, sleet, and light snow you'll want to stick with 2H. Toyota's vehicle stability control (VSC) is great for those situations. VCS is always on by default. 4WD is great for snow, but only if it's covering the road thick enough that the tires will slide relatively easily. This is because you need the wheels to have some ability to slide during turns to prevent damage to the system.
Manual says to drive 10 miles a month in 4hi to keep it maintained well. You said only to engage it in slippery surfaces, so would you not recommend going to 4hi once a month on the roads for 10 miles?
You can drive in 4H on dry surfaces as long as your not doing any serious turning. Going a few miles in 4H straight on the highway won't hurt. It actually helps keep things lubricated
Yes, you can. However, I don't have enough information to diagnose anything about struggling to accelerate and turn. I'd suggest seeing a qualified mechanic.
@@sixtrejody vehicle stability control. It's on by default. It's great at preventing you from completely losing control if you start sliding. Check out this vid: ruclips.net/video/uFXp4fJbk-8/видео.html
Only if you're in gravel or dirt. Do not use it if you're on asphalt. Your traction control and vehicle stability control will be good for monsoons, and those systems are on by default.
Almost always 4H. 4L changes your gearing which you don't need is most situations. An example of when you might need 4L is going up/down a very steep muddy incline or when stuck in deep sand.
Thanks for this video! I helped me a lot! I am new with trucks! Quick question. When you are driving in 4H... Is it normal that the close turns are more dificult? Make sense as the 4 wheel are working, but I want to make sure! By the way, I would be amazing if you could do a video talking about MTS and DAC/CRAWL mode! thanks
I've noticed with mine if I go to neutral then back to drive after stopping, it doesn't make the loud pop. Think it let's the system shift easier. Not as tight....?
4h for dirt/loose gravel roads…so is that anytime I drive on dirt roads? Because tomorrow I’ll be on a dirt road but it’s pretty maintained should I still use 4h or can I keep it in 2h?

Same here, my ‘24 Tacoma SR is my third Tacoma but first 4WD. I’m looking forward to trying it out in some snow. 👍🏻

That was a useful refresher; going to look and see if you did a video on the different modes of 4WD... thx
There's one for the 3rd gen in our earlier videos. We have one for the 4th gen in the pipeline... coming 2025.
Thank you ! Can you introduce the manual transmission switch too ?
In the manual transmission , can I turn on the IMT switch all the time to drive ?

How fast can you go with 4h and 4L?
Very interesting and informative..
Thanks for the info.. I have a question how do you disengage that brake aid or assist without disabling the traction control
Fully off..
That will be in the settings on the garage cluster. It might be PDA or some other safety feature that controls braking.
loving the vids. Keep it up!
Thanks!
Manual says to drive 10 miles a month in 4hi to keep it maintained well. You said only to engage it in slippery surfaces, so would you not recommend going to 4hi once a month on the roads for 10 miles?
Correct. Do not engage on normal roads. If you're going to do the 10miles per month recommendation, you'll still need to find some slippery surfaces.

Yes

If you're always driving on a surface that allows the tires to slide, then yes.
The access for the driving modes for 4wd are definitely easier to get to as opposed to the third gen knob.
I agree! It's much better. Thanks for tuning in!
Ok, but what about the shifter going from 2h to 4h? does it have to be in '4' or can it remain in 'D'? ( 2013 Tacoma 5-speed)

You can use 4WD in that situation, but it probably isn't necessary so I wouldn't bother.

Depends, but often 4LO in 2nd gear is a good option when stuck. 4HI in 1st gear might work too. If you have crawl control, that's even better.
