Have to agree with you as a big volvo nut i had a S40 with a 1.9 4banger T4 that thing was a machine Made 450hp had some chop at idle did 5 secs to 60 was amazing till rust killed it never noticed it till it was to late
Wait a minute! So my '89 245 ($300, 270K miles) Is actually worth the $4500 I have spent on refurbishing? The only thing I didn't touch is the head. Other than that, oil pump to injectors, complete brake and suspension refurb, & changed from that ugly peanut butter colored interior to the charcoal and sag 5 spokes. Black headliner & the only crome is the emblem on the grill. Oh yeah I have a 4x4x8 animal cage on top. I call it, Midnight Safari. I also have a '77 242 ('89 2.3/M47/'83 ZF T K member swap) hacked/cloned into a 142. No wing windows, that is the only outside sign.
Bought a 2.5t s60 a couple years ago. It's my daily, on BC coils, spacers, full exhaust, intake and other smaller mods. 187k miles going strong. Love when people shed light on how cool Volvos actually are😁
I got an 06 2.5t s60 as my first car. Been running great for almost 6 years now, about 127k miles. Sadly I haven’t modified it yet, but I’m excited to get started soon.
Why wouldn't you want the values to rise? I understand wanting to buy an R...but they're rare af online, and to get the good ones (06-07 in manual) is nearly impossible. But if u have a relatively base model...I've gained 3k since I bought it...almost double the price of what I bought it at. And, then more people respect Volvo builds.
@@VikingFrenzy very cool man. If anything BC's are a great investment, especially if ur shocks/springs are worn out. And I have it straight piped, but honestly, a resonator delete and new muffler/delete REALLY open up the sound. Plus, if u replace the stock air box with a cone, u can hear the recirc valve and turbo spool. Sounds like a race car😁😁
Ahh the beloved space ball. A classmate in high school had one of these as a first car. Hated it at first (Wanted a mustang or camaro) but his dad was a big Volvo guy and said this thing is a hidden weapon on wheels. I believe he still owns it and maybe modded it (its been a good couple of years last I spoken to him).
Same, a classmate of mine in 2007 had one and we knew nothing about it. Until he spanked another classmate with an Evo. Stock vs Stock. I had a slow Em1 with a b18c with ITBs. Sounds great, goes nowhere.
As a fellow Virginian car guy with a V70R of my own, I loved this review! These cars have great tuning potential as long as you know what you're doing haha. There's a dude on RUclips with well over 800awhp on his red S60R. Stock trans blew right at hitting 1000hp, a testament to how strong some of the mechanical components can be on these Volvos.
I’m a Maryland guy from a Volvo family as well. I’ve got an 04 S60R. My dad has an 04 V70r which is currently with my sister off in Ohio as she’s off at college.
Yeah the one your talking about is the channl red devil racing and that's Trav, he is looking to finalize the 800 awhp tune but his guy who did the tuning is AWOL
Not everything needs to hit 60 in under 5 seconds. Not sure if you’ve never driven a car, or have been ultra spoiled in doing so, but sub 6 is still quick.
@Foggy lol. Cars that that are stock I think are fast...viper, Corvette, Chevrolet SS, Pontiac GXP G8, hellcats, ZL1, SS Camaros,. EVOs, Griffith 500, sagaras, RS500 Cosworths, McLarens, AMGs, SLP Firehawk, Zr1
The S60R holds a special place because it was the first car I had ever driven in manual when I was 15. Plus the sound of it pulling through the revs is so unique.
Super good review. My mom actually bought one of these S60Rs when I was a baby in late 2005 so she got a 2006 model year. She still owns it today and it’s going to be my first car! It’s Electric Silver over Nordkap Blue interior with the M66 manual it currently has 277k miles and it’s still going pretty good! It’s the first car I ever drove and learned manual in. My mom is planning to get a new car this summer so it’ll finally be mine! I already drive it more than her since she’s working from home and I love it. Super excited to have it to myself soon it’s an awesome car.
Yeah, I was going to do the same thing for my son, but mine was pronounced "totaled" by my insurance company. Oh well, it was my dream and not his, because he likes JDM cars that goes sideways. But the feeling for wanting another S60R still dwells because that car was my "screen saver " on my old computer back when the car was still a prototype. My car was a 2006 Black w/nordic blue interior that had to be special ordered from Sweden. I was fortunate enough to test drive one in Hampton Virginia a year prior when they had only one stick shift on the lot. Test drove it, then shortly thereafter, pre-ordered it for the upcoming 2006 models.
Ever since I’ve watched your Volvo video I have been determined to buy any vehicle with the 2.5t. After hard while or searching. I am finally buying my first volvo. It’s a c30 2.5t t5 with 27k miles for 8500$ I’m so excited, I thank you for making this video. It inspired me to push for better.
I have an 04 S60 2 5t AWD just rolled 90k miles that i daily. 19t swapped, green injectors, front mount, brembo pads and rotors, some suspension work, running around 16psi on Hilton tune. I love it. It's my 4th volvo. They're highly underrated
@@staypurpdhd2581 no videos worth posting yet, just about finished with the tune and then I plan to upload a few. I don't have a channel but I plan to make one so I can archive my build as I have a coilover lift kit being made right now to gain some extra height and suspension travel. I plan to make a p2 s60 cross country and make it look and function as OEM+ as possible
Man this makes me miss my R. I also had an 04 m66 passion red/Gobi. The best things you can do are a big front mount and downpipe. I also made a 3" Catback with a vibrant muffler and it sounded amazing. It surprised so many people with how quick at was. Oh and did I mention it had 235k miles on it!
making me want my old one back, one of the cars i regret selling the most. 2004, 6-speed, had a big front mount, snaab intercooler piping, straight piped, and it was such a glorious experience.
@@bencupo4194 I’ve said the same, thankfully I kept contact with the guy I sold mine to. Maybe I’ll be able to buy the same one back, or find another. I see a few pop up but they’re mostly autos…
Thank you for finally making a video on the S60R David. I have been waiting for this for an exceptionally long time. Also a huge thank you for letting the world know how amazing the S60R truly is. I still own mine and I still gives me so much joy every day
Owned a 2004 for years....My Wife got me to buy it, she happened to take a test drive while getting our V70 serviced, and texted me immediately. Super fun car, and yes, sleeper.
These are dope.. my boy had 2 different ones... Mechanically the cars are strong.. electrically the cars are NIGHTMARES. Spaceball is the only way to have it .. also, watch out for the angle gear in the transfer case
Yeah my buddy bought one and didn’t get to drive it more than 50 miles in the year he owned it. He bought a clean low mileage R with an electrical gremlin and figured “how hard could it be to fix?” Turns out the answer is “impossibly hard”, even for the dealership. They gave it back to him a few times claiming it was fixed after replacing all kinds of modules and harnesses (his total repair bill was $6k), but the electrical system would freak out a few miles down the road every time. The dealership eventually gave up and told him he’d have to take it somewhere else. He gave up and sold it for half of what he paid. Ended up losing over $15k altogether. That was 8-10 years ago. He’s good now! Has a new F150 Plat for work and he just bought a ‘15 Mustang GT P-PP in mint condition.
@@blueridge8992 I have been chasing an electrical issue with mine for 6 months. Multiple indy volvo shops have asked me to let them know what was wrong with it when (if) I ever figure it out
@@bencupo4194 man I had to take out the control modules and scrape corrosion off all the pin connections very tedious. Also the top of the engine I basically rewired all the connections. Just used new pin connectors everywhere and that solved my issues but then my timing belt tensioner failed and blam piston and valves had a fight cus the belt jumped some teeth. This was in a 05 V50 Would love to get my hands on another at some point soon enough lol
I have a turbo 2004. It sits waiting for someone to take it off my hands because it is a mess with its electrics and mechanical issues. It is definitely not as fast as a Subaru.
I’ve had my V70R since 2014 and now there are blowing up 8 years later is nuts! Amazing car to drive and a headache to own. I am about to rebuild mine on my channel this year and hope there’s not any surprises! Love the video man!
I just bought a sonic blue, 2006 Volvo S60R, standard, with the Atacama interior, 93,000 miles, in mint shape for 5 grand, these cars are definitely steals for what they are, if you have the chance to pick one up… DO IT, you will absolutely fall in love with Volvo’s i5 performance.
I like the S60R so much brought it twice! 04 & later an 06. 06 got the 6 speed auto & slightly different maping. 06 also did not restrict full torque in 1st or 2nd like the original did. You might want to get it remaped at the dealer ? I think it's a Polestar program. You might already have it if it's holding rpm during shifting ? Check the suspension. My two never dipped or squat under braking or power ? It only dipped under braking when the electronic Monroe struts needed replacing. Oh! I did upgrade the front antisway bar that really leveled out the left right transitions! I believe it's a blue iPD product ? I installed 18" Pirelli P Zero on OEM rims. Sticks like glue. Reduce pushing in corners noticed. I'm sure you know, on the power in turns with front bias chassis. Such a spirited car. Very few can deliver what these S60R brings..even way back from 04 !! The perfect balance of Dr Jekyll Mr Hyde ! Lol. No other car maker can claim that personality.
I love these cars so much, its the perfect daily driver imo. My S60R has just over 215000 miles on it and it still kicks like it was just bought off the lot! As long as youre pretty uptight about the maintenance its a great car!
This car really grew on me. When I was younger I test drove one, and instead went with an Evo IX. Was so close to grabbing one a few months back though…wanted a project car and after some research it seemed it would get pretty pricey to mod these to the power levels I wanted between engine/transmission. I still think they look great and sound incredible; and would make a fantastic daily driver slightly modded. Instead I got an RSX Type-S and a second 124 Spider Abarth which I’ll be doing a K24 swap/turbo. Great to see some more S60R content as there isn’t much out there! 👌
Owning 1 of these for almost 2 years now .... Well parts are hard to find and expensive, basically everything is expensive. BUT its the smiles per gallon that matters to me
Love this review. I have a built 1998 S70 T5 manual. First car I ever drove was 2006 V70R. The wagon version of this car. In my opinion the earlier FWD Volvos handle slightly better than the AWD ones. They feature passive 4 wheel steering using what's called the delta link rear suspension. Which when you really throw it into corners definitely can be felt. Although it can be a struggle to put power down in the FWD cars in the bends.
Yes p80 all the way!! Have a 98 s70 t5 manual myself. Ton of torque around 420 to the wheel by 4k rpm.. Have ton into it though. Emerald green metallic...
I have a 98 V70 T5. And it could roast 1 wheel peel into 2nd gear no problem. And yeah, thing was a BEAST in the corners. But honestly sucked on gravel cuz the rear liked to swing out a little and ABS/TC was out(preferred it that way anyway) I've always loved Volvos and that just made me 100% sure they are the best cars ever.
@@ogfromutube9649 I think we've talked about your build before. You T9 swapped your car and are running a 22t turbo. Very rad setup. I remember you saying you wanted to upgrade to a 20g. If you do I might be interested in picking up that 22t
The S60 also has passive rear steering, quite a lot of cars do in fact. It's pretty common for most IRS suspensions. All it means is your toe changes under cornering forces. Hell, my Mazda has it and was designed 30 years ago, and the model before that had it and was designed in the mid 89s.
Been waiting for this day forever, litterly was fixing my aoc AWD pump on my manual S60R when you posted this Gotta say the S60R is a very strange car, it's not something that you can really explain well, you just have to drive one to get it. I've had mine for about 8 years now and love it. Gotta say some coilovers, chassis bracing, sway bars and another hundred horsepower really wake it up and the car doesn't feel patched together, it takes mods very very well
The Saab 9-5 Aero is very underrated much like all performance Volvo cars. The Saab used 2 really good transmissions. FWD for the 1st gen 9-5s. Aisin AF33 5 Speed Automatic and Saab designed F35 5 Speed Manual (We don't talk about the GM 50-42LE tranny. Such garbage.). Cool thing is those transmissions can handle a good amount of power, especially built units. 4 door sedan or 5 door wagon. In the top trim, you get a 2.3 Turbocharged 4 cylinder DOHC engine with VVT and all other goodies. Stock turbo is a Mitsubishi TD04 and that turbo can handle more power before a bigger one is needed. Bone stock, a B235R makes 250hp out of the box and you can get up to 30+ mpg just cruising. Their are a few built Saabs roaming the country. I'd say I would love to see David review a 9-3 Aero or 9-5 Aero (Aero X models too). Only reason I know about Saabs is because I had one years ago. To this day, I still regret selling it. Best car I've ever drove. Trust me, Saabs are not built like Toyotas or Hondas. They're built kinda like Mercedes or BMW. They can be reliable or they can be unreliable af. If one is reliable, keep doing frequent fluid changes and you'll be set on having a happy engine and happy car.
Bought one of these last year and I could not be happier. Everything part of this car is just a little bit unusual.... Driving an S60r is what i imagine it feels like to be Doug DeMuro
I owned an 07 S60R auto and totally regret selling it. Maintenance got to be a little high but I loved it! I saw a couple IPD stickers and parts on this one. They are out of Portland and have great stuff for Volvos, especially the R. Great to see an R review. Not many get done these days. Also Jeremy Clarkson hated it.
yup. I had a 98 S70 T5M and I parted ways with it also and wish I had it back. We still have my wife's old 99 S70 T5 but it's an auto and ME7 :( Still fun but it ain't my 98.
@@FastRedPonyCar I have that 98, a SE at that, which is unfortunately also auto. Not going to win many races off the line or to sixty, but nobody gets away.
My mate used to have a 99' V70R with the same engine and awd. That was really good car I miss driving. It had 265hp and with a 2800 pund trailer behind it, you could not tell the trailer was that heavy. The V70R also had a bit more sporty seats than the S60S, which fitted me perfectly. A 700 mile drive was no problem at all and it was very comfy. It had also a very good sound system. Perfect for long trips.
Got converted to a low key Volvo enthusiast when I got my redblock 940 turbo. Thing would walk people with just a boost controller... Such a sleeper. Recently got a new Volvo... They're just as good, if not better
I have been in Volvo since 1984. In the last 5 years prices have tripled for used units. STOP TELLING PEOPLE WHAT I HAVE! I specialize in 245 salvage. Until end of March 2022 I have both rear 1/4 glass for $125 shipped (lower 48 only)
The Volvo s60r is one of those cars that has a very distinct cult following and can be appreciated by its devoted followers while still getting some recognition from others as well, but what I love most is how it can still fly under the radar of many people because nowadays "Its just and old Volvo". That's why I hope to own one soon or just swap the R engine into my 2.5t AWD!
Thanks for finally doing a video on the p2R cars lol. Definitely hidden gems that are climbing in value rapidly. I was lucky enough to find a 05 m66 v70R in 2019 with engine trouble (but low miles) for $1000. After putting 5k into it addressing the engine and known weak points it’s dead reliable and has been my daily since. Nothing beats rowing gears in a Volvo and the sound of that 5cyl makes the maintenance worth it in my eyes.
They are amazing I've owned 5 P2Rs (30+ volvos in general) The Rs are some of the best, most comfortable cars I've owned/driven. They have their quirks and issues and can be spendy. My 06 Sonic blue M66 V70R has 190k miles and my 04 Flash green V70R has 365k miles and I drive it 130mi daily
I’ve been on the hunt for a v70r for about a year and a half now. Unfortunately people are starting to discover what they have. Atleast I’m in Volvo country in Central NY so I’ve been picky. I passed on an 850r a few years ago and a have regretted that decision because I never see them anymore.
I've owned an S60r for over a decade. The only things bad on these cars from factory are the PCV system and the turning radius. At least the is the PCV is easily replaced.
Im really glad i just picked up my salvage title S60R recently because im seeing a LOT more content on this car and I was starting to be afraid that people would start picking up all these cars and whatever was left was gonna be priced out what I can afford. Now that I have mine i'm so happy
A brother of mine has a v70r polestar with the 6 as his daily. After intake, full exhaust, and a tune it puts down over 350hp and 450ftlbs to the wheels. He let me borrow it one day and only asked that I didn't launch it. An absolute wolf in sheep's clothing. 55mph to 115mph faster than you can say "felony traffic stop." Didn't even need to put it in sport mode or use the paddles. Dash said 27-30mpg cruising at@80mph.
I want a v70 r so badly. Always loved Volvos and Saabs. Underrated gems 💎 I just bought a ‘03 s80 and I love it. Volvos require a lil more tlc compared to most but they’re definitely the most comfy and fun daily drivers.
I owned a S60 R for a few years and the only gripes I had with it were the turning radius and suspension (not cheap to fix or replace with aftermarket). It really is an incredible car!
@@i_dodge_trees I wasn't a huge fan of the settings for the 4c's so I always hoped it would be easy to set it up with coilovers but I was young then and didn't want to deal with the dash lights and getting that resolved xD I would love to pick up a T5 model instead with the 2.4t engine and I'll always love the sound of the 5 cylinder!!
@@mrscootscoot662 i have pilot sport 4s on mine, seems to handle incredibly neutral for a fwd biased system. With winters on it's all understeer haha. I also have the IPD oval catback, gotta be one of the best sounding engines i've heard.
Great review. I own two of these. V70R (Auto) as a daily and a S60R (M66) as a show/weekend fun car. Your review was honest and well rounded. They are such a a fun car and nobody give them the respect until they see it pull away on them and then they understand. They can be a pain sometime but as long as you stay on top of maintenance they are a great car to own.
That spaceball shifter is so cool! Gonna be honest, I only know about it thanks to Elliot Alvis, & his V70r. People may know him because he brought Tavarish's Car Trek Maserati, but his entire channel is worth a watch, imo.
You can snag R white blocks ( code : B5254T4 ) for about $500 with 100-150 k on the clock if you are patient. Be warned most standalone ecu's can't handle their VVT system. Also viva performance sells cams, pistons, rods etc for big power
Fun Fact: This engine is the same as the original Focus RS not available in NA. It was when Ford owned Volvo I believe. (correct me if I'm wrong someone)
I love that the S60R has been making the rounds on youtube recently, because I love these cars (owned 2), but at the same time the prices are going up lol
Im 17 and this was my first car and still have it, have had it for a year now, I love it. Not gonna lie, i need new tires because mine are basically bald ;) just subscribed love ur vids
My son in law in who lives in Richmond,Va. used to own a black one with a tune and exhaust and it was fast and sounded great. He met you a couple of times at the Regency Mall car meets....great video as usual 👊😎
Wait.. David AND Demuro release an S60R video less than a month apart??? Hmmm... David, the reason people don't talk about these as much as they probably should in mainstream car culture is that they're expensive to work on and at their age, they have a lot of things most likely needing to be fixed and working on these is not easy at all. They did a killer job of engineering these to run 100k miles before you even have to think about them but once you do, godspeed. The good thing is that the drive train in basically all the older volvos is nearly bulletproof and can easily get you from point A to B on the daily even with lots of problems. We've had 5 volvos and still have my wife's old 99 S70 T5 and we're about to basically spend as much, probably more, than what the car is actually worth on all new suspension, getting the AC running again, new power steering pump, timing belt, tires, etc but its worth it to me for a fun and reliable ride.
Lots of current and past P2 R owners in the Comments, I'll chime in :) I had a Black-Nordkap 04 S60R M66 from 2013-15, modifications included lots of Polyurethane bushings replacing factory rubber bushings, Front and Rear IPD Sway Bars, BC Coilovers, Ultra Racing Chassis Bracing, 3" DP, and 3" Exhaust with Borla XR1 muffler. I loved how it sounded, and with the way I had setup the handling didn't feel lazy at all. I miss it, but yeah it was definitely a car that you knew you had to keep $1,500 or so a year aside for maintenance and fixing random gremlins
@@davecochrane2763 the R is a 2.3 bored to a 2.5 liter, cylinder sleeves crack. Easier to make power on the T5. Not sure about V70’s but that’s how it is on the P2 S60 platform
I’m so glad you did a review on this car. They are fun good cars. I daily drive mine and I enjoy it. Quite comfortable, but fun enough to sling it through a couple corners without much issue.
In the last Volvo video, the guy didn't have a big turbo. That's why it feels completely different. That S60R is equipped with a K24 turbo. Shit spools quick as hell. The engine in both cars are very similar. In fact, the only difference is rigidity and the fact that the old one is 2.4 and the new one is 2.5 and VVT was thrown in. I'd say the 6 speed makes it feel quick as well.
Absolutely love my 1997 C70 P80. ❤️ Brakes, suspension and sways are completely done, also Recaros and Michelin pilot sport 4 mounted. Handles amazing on track and people shit bricks when you pass them in that car their grandparents drove. 😂 Engine is reinforced with H-beams too now, still pushing 270whp but will get another turbo in the near future. 😊 Amazing cars. Great review. People don't get it and they'll never get it. Let them eat their heart out. 😂
@@ubiased23 Normal T5 stuff mostly. Breather box, maintenance history, rear side windows will most likely leak under heavy water (high pressure cleaner), door locks can sometimes drain the battery. But these cars have been so reliable through the years without maintenance that it's hard to find a really good one. Cheap ones probably aren't reliable because of years of neglect.
@@it_is_just_a_volvo good to know. I prefer the 5 speed manual of I buy one. They have really grown on me because of the 1997 movie the saint. I've heard they have a good sound system as well. Is that true? Also what year do you recommend
@@ubiased23 I have the 5 speed manual (M56HK), 3rd gear ends at 180km/h redline. Very long gearing and amazing with 500nm of torque to the wheels. The sound system is very good (I have the Dolby surround sound with dashboard Subwoofer). Try to get engine management with Bosch M4.4, less sensors, rawer version then the ME7 engine management (eventhough it drives more smooth) and single mass flywheel. 👍 But both engines are great ofc.
Imprezas,Focus STs,Evos all scream Look at me I'm fast. It's the sheer understated appearance of the fast Volvos that makes them all the more appealing.Only sad thing is Volvo abandoned the manual box a couple of years back.
I miss my 2000 Volvo C70 hard top coupe. I sold it back in 2011 for a mustang. I had that C70 very nicely hooked up. It's hard to make these cars look tastefully tuner, but mine was nice. Maintenance was high and you needed some dealership equipment to work on it properly, but you had something that you just didn't see everyday. Shout out to iPD💪
the 850 you drove had a standard whiteblock. the s60rs have a revised whiteblock with stronger rods, pistons and vvt on both cams. them make within 50 hp stock but the s60 r has a much fatter powerband below 3500 rpm that can be further exploited with a tune. these motors can hold 500 to the wheel. more if you sleeve em.
I got a 2007 S80 V8. We also have a 2006 S80 3.2. Both wonderful cars, very comfortable, very reliable. I didn't know it when I bought it, but my car already had its mufflers taken off, so that Yamaha V8 has some bark and bite. Just wish the last owner didn't replace the factory cold air intake with an off the shelf warm air ram intake... It doesn't have the raw performance of a true sports car, but it handily passes on the highway and sounds like a thundering Norse god.
i have two XC70s (one turbo diesel 5 cylinder the other 5 cyilinder Turbo gasoline) both excellent in the snow and off road i also have a V70 from 1997(basically a facelifted 850) with a 5 cylinder turbo diesel and a 5 speed manual.its 140hp but sounds and feels like a whole heap more. third gear pulls really put a smile on my face.
Im kinda fond of this car now , I saw the Doug demuro review he did as well ( the funky green with orange interior) lol!! Some how, that color scheme looked ok too!
Fun fact: The Haldex (FWD bias AWD system) was developed by the Swedes. However, Volvo only switched to this from the older viscous system in 2003. Audi were the first to use it from 1998 in their smaller models. I own a 2008 Audi S3 & these came out from 2006. A very nice thing to have. With this in mind. I salute you S60R :) One thing I'd like to ask. I don't really get redlining to fuel cut? I prefer to flat change before redline. Just me. The S3 is super easy to do if you are keen. How is this Volvo gearbox for this style of gear change?
That Volvo is wicked... I've always liked volvos for being a bit quirky... I had a professor in school that drove a Passat with a v6 diesel swap...it was a battle of diesel smoke vs tire smoke... Lol it would take off and spin through 3rd... Coolest teacher ever
Especially the 05 and up T5 variants of these cars are a lot to enjoy. They are a bit more "barebones" with the FWD only and standard suspension but sill a thrill to be had. The key is the slightly more robust engine of the T5 because Volvo uses the same block for all the motors of this generation reviewed, just changing displacement via the bore. With this method of changing displacement, while cost effective, the R models have a somewhat notorious reputation of cracking cylinder sleeve walls and often opt for engine swapping to the "thicker" walled motor for big power builds, unopened can handle a considerable amount of horsepower unopened with the necessary. R is still the crown jewel in my book! Hope to own another one someday, but for now I'll stick with my T5!
I bought one and had a similar reaction from people, I had no idea people knew of what they were until at car related stuff, everyone knew what they were and were asking about it all the time I had no idea
I had my engine rebuilt with upgraded forged Ford Focus RS parts. I would like to do he 4x4, 400hp conversion. Like the polestar featured on Jay Leno's channel
I remember getting our s60 r and my wife asking me if it was as quick as our a4 s line because she thought it was not as fast as the A4 because she said it was too comfortable to be fast i couldn't stop laughing when she said that to me and she still didn't believe me until I got onto the motorway and give her the full force of that amazing motor
Had an 04 s60r, my steering rack went out $1500 rebuilt one and it was still leaking sold the car cuz I didn’t want to deal with it anymore after rebuilding the engine from a snapped timing belt. I miss it every single day, worst mistake of my life selling that car 10/10 car

I personally don't purely because I don't want the values to rise. Plus, we got that sleeper status.
@@famcrawshaw Appreciate the advice my man 👍🏻 I’m definitely going to look into the BCs, my suspension seems close to being on its way out lol.
Ahh the beloved space ball. A classmate in high school had one of these as a first car.
I want one. Drove a newer 2019 v60r and it was fun. I want a s60r or v60r of this era

I saw that vid. He launched it. Spun like 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. I think he went to throw it into fourth he let out the clutch it and broke.

They absolutely do. P80s are the best FWD Volvos!
Ive always wanted a S60R. Underrated vehicles are always the best imo.

Gotta say the S60R is a very strange car, it's not something that you can really explain well, you just have to drive one to get it.

It had 265hp and with a 2800 pund trailer behind it, you could not tell the trailer was that heavy. The V70R also had a bit more sporty seats than the S60S, which fitted me perfectly. Miss my old S60R. Such a unique car.

Engine is reinforced with H-beams too now, still pushing 270whp but will get another turbo in the near future. 😊 Amazing cars. Great review. People don't get it and they'll never get it. Let them eat their heart out. 😂
I've always wanted a volvo C70. I think it is a very good looking car. has it been reliable? if I buy one what should look out for?
My buddy had one in highschool. He kept up with the other buddies. The G35, the stock Evo 8, gen 3 Supra, and my homies brand new blob eye.
My old CSM had a pristine s80... loved it
Recently picked up a v70r. Loving my turbo wagon
the 850 you drove had a standard whiteblock. the s60rs have a revised whiteblock with stronger rods, pistons and vvt on both cams. them make within 50 hp stock but the s60 r has a much fatter powerband below 3500 rpm that can be further exploited with a tune. these motors can hold 500 to the wheel. more if you sleeve em.
It doesn't have the raw performance of a true sports car, but it handily passes on the highway and sounds like a thundering Norse god.
i have two XC70s (one turbo diesel 5 cylinder the other 5 cyilinder Turbo gasoline) both excellent in the snow and off road
i also have a V70 from 1997(basically a facelifted 850) with a 5 cylinder turbo diesel and a 5 speed manual.its 140hp but sounds and feels like a whole heap more. third gear pulls really put a smile on my face.
I'm a Volvo guy. Try the C30 T5. It's a de tuned version of the engine but the chassis is sublime. It's a perfect GT.
Have a S80 2.5T. Currently have parts in the mail to start building, but very reliable and comfortable car…
2006 s60 T5 M66 owner here
these cars are Siick
Had an 04 s60r, my steering rack went out $1500 rebuilt one and it was still leaking sold the car cuz I didn’t want to deal with it anymore after rebuilding the engine from a snapped timing belt. I miss it every single day, worst mistake of my life selling that car 10/10 car
My favorite car glad I have one. Converted it to spaceball 6spd from 5spd auto. Catless exhaust 3" with magnaflow muffler
