  • This video was inspired jointly by the episodes "Home is the Hunted", and "Running Scared".
And I've always loved the song... it was originally performed by Robin and Linda Williams, but this version is performed by Tim O'Brien, backed by his sister Mollie O'Brien. The personal websites of all these talented artists are listed below:

As I walked out one evenin'
To breathe the air and sooth my mind
I thought of friends and the home I had,
And all those things I left behind
A silent star shone on me,
My eyes saw the far horizon
As if to pierce this veil of time
    And escape this earthly prison
Will there come a time when the memories fade,
And pass on with the long, long years?
When the ties no longer bind,
Lord, save me from this darkest fear:
Don't let me come home a stranger
    I couldn't stand to be a stranger
In this place so far from home,
They know my name but they don't know me
They hear my voice; they see my face
But they can't lay no claim on me
Will there come a time when the memories fade,
And pass on with the long, long years?
When the ties no longer bind,
Lord, save me from this darkest fear:
Don't let me come home a stranger
    I couldn't stand to be a stranger
    As I walk this universe,
I free my mind of time and space
    I wander through the galaxy
But never do I find my place
Will there come a time when the memories fade,
And pass on with the long, long years?
When the ties no longer bind,
Lord, save me from this darkest fear:
Don't let me come home a stranger
    I couldn't stand to be a stranger
Lord, save me from this darkest fear:
Don't let me come home a stranger
    I couldn't stand to be a stranger

A haunting song that evokes long ago rainstorms walking along cold, gray sidewalks in some friendless town. It's a song that I've personally experienced and speaks of my own life, as I look back across my 68 years. Listening, you just hope he can make it back to the warm embrace of his family.🌹

The fact that the first "don't let me come home a stranger" is accompanied by Kimble getting rejected by his brother is very painful, thank you. :D Also, many feelings about "in this place so far from home, they know my name but they don't know me," especially with the people looking at him with suspicion.

And, as I mentioned to Tim, I loved this show when I was a kid.

O'Brien is indeed an "amazingly talented musician/singer who should be better known" ! I could not agree more.

I could be wrong, in fact I usually am, but I have a feeling he is as well known as he wants to be, and does not want fame and fortune, just the appreciation of the lucky horde who know how tasty his music always is.

Tim O'Brien told me about this video when I met him last Tuesday at an evening with Hot Rize at the Grammy Museum in LA. I told him that his version of this song breaks my heart! Really great job on this video!! Thanks!

Thanks very much for sharing that information. Tim O'Brien is an amazingly talented musician/singer who should be better known; I hoped he wouldn't mind my using his version of the song for this tribute. (And thank you for your kind words, they are greatly appreciated!)

I'm noticing that many people here say....'I loved this show as a kid'. Any theories as to why it appealed to kids? It did to me as well. I was 10 when The Fugitive hit the airwaves.

The reason was to see if Kimble would be caught by Lt. Gerrard, escape if he caught, and could he get out of it and who would help him or not. This show and Mission Impossible were the best thrillers on TV back then. This show was on during the years of civil rights, so we just wanted to see justice done for an innocent man. That week's episode could be the one where Kimble is free.

For me, I was born in '62, so I was just a kid when this aired on TV, but I can remember sitting up with my mom to watch it. The kindness of Kimble did it for me. This man who searched for justice is the first guy I'd ever known who was both kind and gentle.

David Janssen was missed after his passing. Heart disease has no mercy.

Kimble could have never stayed free in today's society. His picture would be on every cell phone and teams of police would be after him any not just one man chasing him and always out of his juris diction.
