    the other very important thing is that they're suppose to be able to eat bugs like most birds do. this greatly adds to the nutrition of eggs.

      We had 30 hens that were pastured until the numbers dropped very quickly. The eggs were the best I ever had while they lasted. These hens were raised from chicks and into laying age and they really produced well. Then...they started disappearing, little by little, but oh so fast. Everything wants to eat a chicken. Everything around here got to, except me. We have hawks, owls, oppossums, raccoons, snakes, coyotes, wild pigs, wild dogs, feral cats, bobcats, and black people. All the wild things ate my chickens. I even had pies taken from my window sill. I don't know what kind of animal does that, but it's just their nature.

    When the package says "cage free" it means they were not put in individual cages, but in a large tin barn with thousands of other chickens. It's a bigger cage. Pasture of farmer is best, like Dr.Berg says.

    • @unknownAmethyst
      @unknownAmethyst 6 лет назад +5

      jleetxgirl That is true. My sister worked at one of these....cage free farms. Yes they are cage free but in a big long barn and multiple barns I believe he had 5 barns. It smelled really bad and chickens looked unhealthy. When they get old we had to come over and help catch them so they could be shipped off.

      Battery cage is the worst cram many chickens into tiny wire cages. Cage free is like you said inside it smells so bad from all the bird poop concentrated in one place birds have to breath their own sewage. It would be like us living our entire lives in a sewer just enough air to stay alive.

    Now that I’ve tried pasture raised I can’t see myself buying any other eggs. For those who say that’s it’s pricier.. see where you can give up some other items.. sodas, cereals, snacks.. and buy better quality eggs instead. Drink water, eat less snacks.. especially if the goal is weight loss then you’ll need less of the other stuff. If you don’t have access then I’d still try to cut out the other stuff and eat more eggs and Whole Foods and fewer times throughout the day. If you have organic then that may be an option too.. I can completely understand that complaint tho with price.. it’s unfortunate that we have to spend so much to get better quality foods but that’s the reality we live in. I can definitely agree with dr berg.. I’m adopting the mindset of not wanting to support future illnesses and thinking more consciously about the foods I eat even if they’re not organic/pasture raised/ grass fed ALL the time.. There’s always something you can tweak if you can’t get this exact item.

    I have 12 chickens. They love watermelon on these hot days. Give them electrolytes and some colloidal silver in their water. They drink nothing but our Berkey filtered water.
    Commercial chickens are fed growth hormones and anti-biotics. They start laying in approx 2- 3 months. An organic raised chicken will take up to 6 months before they lay their first egg. When you crack an organic egg into a frying pan, it maintains itself (profile) in a tight circle. A store bought chemical egg simply runs to the edges of the pan requiring an egg ring to fry it uniformly.

    • @Sophiamia6960
      @Sophiamia6960 6 лет назад +5

      greenskeeper59 great info! Oh and the yolks should be deep orange too. I just bought a huge watermelon for my girls last night. I'm about to take it out to them. It's been so hot and I've had to keep them in the run for a few days, because we had a fox here a few days ago. It didn't get any of my birds or ducks thank God! So taking some preventive measures and keeping them in for a few days... Plus they were all nervous wrecks afterwards, today they seem much calmer. They were even skittish around me, witch they've never been....
      I never thought about giving them colloidal silver. Great idea. I do put brags apple cider vinegar in their water though and give them Kiefer and kombucha.

    I have another question regarding what the hens are fed. I do have access to organic eggs but they're not as readily available as I would like. I asked one of the free range egg producers (free range in the UK means the hens are allowed to live outside) what exactly they feed their hens. Their reply was as follows:
    'Our girls have a specialised nutritious feed which keeps them healthy and makes great tasting eggs. The feed consists of a variety of ingredients which include Wheat, Barley, Soya, Paprika, Marigold, Vitamins and Minerals and was designed specifically for the happy egg co.'
    I've asked a follow up question about soy and corn, but what do you think of the above feed?
    Thank you so much for your help!

      Sarah Mchenry maybe an illness or stress or sleep issues have entered your life? Like even slow thyroid or high cortisol levels ....even stress that raises cortisol or affects getting a deep sleep ( sleep is so very important t when it comes to weight as we lose weight during sleep when the body releases hormones to repair itself ) If your diet is the same and nothing has crept back into it like extra carbs and too much fat etc ..id check out other health issues. It happened to a friend of mine ...she found out her thyroid was low and after a few months of meds her weight started comming back off that she had gained while on keto .... just thought I'd mention it :)

    I've started raising my own chickens recently and have followed your lead on eating 4 eggs a day for about a month now. The reason Im commenting is that I have very poor knees having been diagnosed with deterioration of Cartledge one knee has been dislocated three times and i was sure I'd be going in for replacement in due time. I was using ice packs after work which put a lot of stress on my knees. But I only had to do this for a few days then I noticed my knees were feeling much better after a week's time back at work. Having had knee issues since I was a teen I was sure it was only a matter of time before replacement was needed. Now I think I am going to be able to avoid it altogether and the only thing I can attribute the improvement to is my eating multiple eggs almost every day. I am also on the olive oil honey and lemon mix and I do the whole lemon with honey, and blueberries drink mix once or twice a week but the big change came after I began eating the eggs I raised myself. Does this make any sense to you? Thanks for all your information thats been a huge benefit to myself

    I've got some backyard hens that are fed a bunch of kitchen scraps (I work in a hotel kitchen), and a blend of whole grains which I made a video about. They are three years old and still laying strong. There was a bit of an investment up front (coop, chickens, feed), but for high quality eggs at $4-$6/dz, I'm sure they've paid for themselves. However, maybe where you live commercial eggs are $3/dz, but where I live they are usually around a $1/dz or less. If you are feeding a large family or are on a budget, eggs are one of best things you can buy. No judgement here.

      sruti chandran I watched videos from Dr.Fung ... on fasting and diabeties obesity and new science that has been studied ... he has many videos but I started with his video called " the calorie deception" It was a seminar and I think there are two parts to it. He explains it all so well and easy to listen to and understand ...he is a specialist in Toronto Canada . He explains how the metabolism isn't affected and we dont lose muscle and it can actually raise metabolism. Hope that helps a little :) It sure helped me. Both Dr Berg and Dr. fung have a way about how they explain things that is so easy to understand.:)

      Kittenpurrrs whenLoved thanks! Yeah I've read Jason fung's work and it really does make a lot of sense... But it still seems kind of confusing because I do know that intermittent and alternate fasts raise your metabolism but it still seems like fasting for a really long time can slow down your metabolism even though you don't lose muscle because I've heard of a lot of people who've done extended fasts with success but have lowered their metabolic rate so I just wanted more information 😊 even Jason fung had said earlier that during extended fasts if your metabolism slows down you should probably eat some fat to help with that... I'm still learning about all of this.. there's just so much conflicting information out there

    Walmart sells eggs which the sellers say are pasture-raised but also fed ”carefully formulated supplemental feed” or fed an "all-natural, vegetarian diet". That means they're getting corn and/or soy in addition to the grass and/or bugs in the pasture. I wonder which chickens typically prefer -- bugs (that they have to work for) and grass, or readily available "supplemental" feed?

    How about running a 5k after donating blood? I did that today just to experiment how my body feels/reacts. Not great!

I have no thyroid and when I consume soy or corn in any product or eggs that don’t specified I get blurry vision. Any recommendation of a farm to purchased the right eggs please.

    If you look closely at all the "pasture" or good eggs on the market at the grocery store they are not from chickens eating grasses. One for instance used flax seed to increase the birds Omega 3 level and marketed it as 250 mg. another was happy egg. they feed them a wheat diet with paprika added to make the yolk more yellow. exactly what would happen if they were grazing on grass. misleading, I thought ohh wow the yolk is much more yellow. must be the Omega 3, no it's the paprika. they have a video on RUclips that explains that. I could go on about other eggs. it seems to not be possible to find grass fed chicken eggs from the grocery store, any grocery store I go to at least including places like Trader Joe's.

      Kristopher Sookma pastured raised organic eggs will be the best you can buy outside of doing it yourself or finding a farmer who may or may not do what you are are hoping.
      Local farmers still use chicken feed even on the pasture raised eggs.

    Pasture-Raised Eggs - is this the same as Free Range in the UK? Thanks

    • @JenniferMyers
      @JenniferMyers 6 лет назад +5

      Free-range” or “free-roaming” on a label implies that the bird had unrestricted access to the outside world. In reality, the term only guarantees that poultry have the opportunity to go outside--not that poultry actually go outside or have meaningful access to outdoor foraging. Further, "free-range" for labeling purposes is only for chickens raised for meat, and not for laying hens. In other words, eggs labeled as "free-range" or "free-roaming" are from laying hens not confined in battery cages, but the laying hens are confined indoors on the floor rather than in open pasture. So, to answer your question, unfortunately no; it isn't the same as pastured, or pasture raised/fed.

      2011ariesrules most definitely not. just because an egg is organic doesnt make it healthy. most organic chickens are still fed corn and soy and are not free to roam around on pasture, but instead stuck in a cage or barn with massive overcrowding. always stick with pasture raised and do your research. i always look up or contact the producer to find out exactly what the chickens are fed and what their living conditions are.

    • @2011ariesrules

      Thanks, Good advise I will do the same. What a waste of money paying more for Organic!! Time to check out the producer for sure. Trying to eat healthy is a mine field i have come to find. Thanks for the heads up though.
