- We got our hands on the new DeWalt PowerStack Battery and push it hard using the DCF923 ATOMIC 20V Impact Wrench. It's only been a few days since we visited DeWalt in Baltimore and first laid eyes on the Power Stack batteries. This 1.7Ah Lithium pouch-style battery has a small footprint but packs quite a punch. In our testing, we compared this new battery to the 2Ah, 4Ah, and 5Ah 20V Max batteries. The power to weight ratio is off the charts and we're looking forward to seeing larger Ah in this format. Look for these batteries to hit the shelves at the end of this year.

Love the small form factor. These small but powerful batteries are a welcome addition, particularly for for impacts, which have gotten so much smaller in the past few years.

I will really be interested in seeing what they can do when it comes to making bigger capacity batteries whether u will be still better off running 2 cells in parallel in 21700 or just having 5 pockets of cells in the power stack

You can get TWO powerstack batteries WITH A 923 3/8 for $199 at tool barn or acme, or choose the 911 if you like the 1/2" . For the 1/2" I really love the DCF891 - 800FT LBS
What do you use to torque down the bolts in this video been looking for one?
As a daily tech for over 30yrs with 95% of Snap-On tools in my collection from sockets to cordless drivers, I can honestly say that i've had dewalt impacts and so did my coworkers, their durability/longetevitiy is outstanding compared to all other brands, no failures whatsoever with any part of any impacts, yet one of the most underrated affordable brands
I hope they do this power stack for the 12v line especially for the bigger batteries man that would be sweet
I hope they don't make it too small. I will use the same size and simply swap out the batteries with the pouches.

Will you guys be doing the DeWalt Electric Ratchet any time soon? I have the Snap-on CTR768W1 3/8 Long Neck Brute Electric Ratchet. 175rpm and 70 lbs-ft. I absolutely love it. I use to have the Milwaukee M12 Fuel 3/8 Ratchet 55 lbs-ft. The Snap-On has a muchh smaller head, and the body takes a lot more manual torque vs the Milwaukee. The Snap-On spins very slowly. I'm curious how the DeWalt stacks up.

Just picked up the dcd 791 at Lowe’s and got the dcf911 1/2 drive as the “free tool”, $199. Hoping the 911 works well. Wonder if I can use the 8ah batt off my xr recip saw on it?
Extremely versatile tool. Happy to find one for only $125 on Amazon this week. I was concerned it was a fake at that price but turned out to be the real deal.

As a 923 3/8th owner , I really appreciate the video. 2amp batteries going to 350 lbs ft is awesome going around a car 🚗, I also have 5amp, I'd like to see if those would do the 450. Great content. If I ever get really stuck I have the mid torque beast 891 in a 1/2" drive. The 900 is awesome but just too big to walk around with. Thanks! 🎉❤

@@mike_t_007 I think if you were on a huge farm 🚜 you'd rather carry the 891 around over the 900. There's not much it can't do
1,7 Ah is a really low compared to other batteries. I know this one is small and can deliver the same current as the big ones but do we really need that small size?
Just bought a pair at Lowe's for $199, they were all out of the regular 2AH. I looked on line at Amazon and they were offered at $159 through a second seller. After watching your demonstrations I believe I should have purchased the 4AH, at least it would have given me a longer run time and the power equivalence of the Powerstack. Once these 1.7AH start into the draining process through regular use their power fades as any battery and die just a bit sooner than a normal 2AH.
Correct, if you are not going after the lightest/smallest pack, the new 4Ah with the 21700 cells is a great choice.
Hi Tim, the dcf894h and dcf921 are both compact impacts, just the 921 more compact, is that the only difference? I’m getting the power stack when it’s available, the dcf921 is coming the 22nd, I bought it cuz my 894 is to bulky in some tight spots that 921 will get right in there, ty Tim,
I’m really surprised no one pointed out the total unfairness of running the small original battery through 5 bolts before attempting the 6th. But then the powerstack battery fresh with no bolts run first? My guess is that the original battery attempting that bolt directly after a full charge would do it in the same time..
Yep! I said the same too! Also check the hammer time spent for powerstack and 4ah on the 450ftlb. 13s vs 8s. Not fair imho.

Cool testing pack they sent you awesome stuff dewalt deffinintly needs to increase the AH on the powerstack 1.7ah is ok but i think bigger capacities will be coming out easy fit 10 them pouch packs into a regular size 5ah or 6ah sideways tho not stacked on top 😁or make the pouches bigger
Some of the test he conducted, the 3/8 did a little better. Possibly due the extra weight of the reducer
Now to the most important (In my opinion) question...WILL & WHEN will the price go down on the old style batteries???

Hope to see A Powerstack XL with the same footprint as the larger batteries so we can get the higher capacities as well!

Well, it isn't 50% more power in any useable difference at least. These in a 12V config would be sweet though, for their small footprint 12V line. To make those even 30% stronger would be sweet.
can you try this power stack battery on a older 18V drill with a 20v adapter? 🤔

The DCF921 is the same other than the anvil, so I would not expect it to break the 450. Same specs of 300 ft lb install and 450 ft lb breakaway.
I tested my dcf921 at work with a small bolt and used a torque wrench at 425 ft pounds. The 921 broke it free.

Does anyone know what the little black cover is hiding on the bottom right hand side of the tool? pause it at 2:34 ish . There are two screws holding it in place from underneath. Wonder What it is for? Some accessory they haven't announced yet maybe?
One problem I have is are those nuts spec for this gun? Because I got over 450 on a 11/16 nut
What does a 5 amp hour flat-pack look like?
I’m a union millwright, I like it been looking at buying one for work I’m okay with it not busting 450 ft lbs but would like to know what battery they used for testing to make it say it has 450 ft lb break away. Like if I’m breaking away over 400 definitely going to 1/2 drive
They need to change the battery cell for the flexvolt batteries, when you put a 12ah flexvolt battery on a tool it's like a brick on it and I heard they having a 15ah flexvolt battery now it would feel like a cinderblock on the end of a tool.

I am still trying to decide between 1/2 or 3/8
I’d recommend 1/2 for something like an impact wrench since by nature, it’s cut out for big torque. Typically, the larger the size of the tool, the more torque you can efficiently run.
The DCF 921 and 923 have the same output rating, just 3/8 vs 1/2 anvil. There are other larger impact wrenches for more torque output.
I don't want to tell you how to do your job but seeing one of these impact wrenches out in the field whipping the rusty lug nuts off a vehicle that's been sitting dormant for 20 years is the convincer for most folks including me.
It is amazing how powerful these battery operated impact wrenches have become though.
But you cant tell what those bolts out in the field are torqued at....The way he does it you know for sure......
so basically it's comparable to the performance of 21700 cells with the exception of being smaller and lighter. I feel if you were to use that on bigger tools, it will just tip over easily due to the overall less surface area of the battery.
The Gearwrench part #41890 has a 33m socket but short socket

The most important thing about a battery to me is how stable it sits in it with a big bit or socket on the tool....
Sounds dumb, but if I'm trying to hold something together and need to set the drill/driver down, I don't want to worry about it falling over.
You should really get into the habit of laying your drill down. They always end up falling when we really needed them not to and marking something up. It's just good practice
I would still like the wide foot print so my tools will stand up when not in use.
Thanks for the comparison. I am a big fan and sub of you channel but I watched this video carefully and I think it wasn't much of a fair comparison. You let the powerstack to hammer the 450ftlb for 13 seconds while 4ah and 5ah for only 8 seconds! Probably it wasn't intentional but you can do a video check lol I even doubt the powerstack can do the 400ftlb if you started from the first bolt with it like you did with 2ah battery. The capacity is so small that even removing those first 4 bolts with lower torques may affect!

Picked mine up yesterday… $130 for 1 and $180 for 2 at Lowe’s. Pretty steep but performs well enough and offers enough compact and lightweight benefits to stay content, not gonna lie :D

Just picked one of these up for $219 with a 5ah Power stack at the Home Depot. They want $199 for that battery alone. Dang.
So with all the tools I have seen on these types of channels, I am still confused....is the amphour rating a power thing or an endurance thing....I have and seen many different displays
The amp hour rating relates to endurance but at the same time does increase power as well due to more cells or more powerful cells (18650 or 21700 cells and now "pouch cells") working together more efficiently. More power can also equate to more runtime. If a tool is struggling its going to draw more current and drain the battery faster. Now with the powerstack battery its a completely different type of cell so idk which one is going to last longer. If the pouch cells are more efficent then in theory it should run for longer even with the same amp hour rating. Testing im sure will be done to see how a pouch cell 1.7ah battery last compared to a 2ah cylindrical cell battery
I bet if you tried 2 ah battery on the 400ft/lb nut before loosing all others first it would have loosened it. Already drained some of battery life taking other nuts off
Yes absolutely... this testing is so flawed. You drained the 2ah battery on so many nuts first then only did one with the power stack. 🤦🏻♂️

Hope they put a lot of anti shock gel or something like that in those new packs. Those pouches have a tendency to pop and catch fire. That is the reason why people who use them put them in a fire proof bag when transporting them and recharging them.

People complain about the loose fit for sockets.
a customer come in with a 18v stick battery either dewalt or makita either way I advised him to buy a new tool even if it was Ryobi it'll blow that old tool out of the water he refused stating he "doesn't subscribe to throw away America"

@@rcud1 I think based on the voltage requirements. The 12 volt Extreme uses a 12 volt ⚡ system which is 1/3 less than the 20 volt max (18 volt running). You need less space, weighs less, and 25% more power. The pouch cell battery are used in cell phones.
No one has answered the question of what is the run time like on these new packs?
They are 1.7Ah, so expect the runtime to be around the same or a tad less than as the prior 2Ah packs.
Thanks for the review. Definitely won't be investing in power stack if the only thing it brings is a slightly smaller size. I'm not finding 4 and 5ah batteries cumbersome in any way.

Dewalt is a few laps down, and switching to cell-phone batteries isn't going to be enough on its own to keep them from losing ground.
Bro, Milwaukee's over 2 year old 12V stubby broke 450 ft lbs on this same channel. Meaning it beat this new 18V DeWalt with cell phone batteries (new tech lol ).. so scared of what exactly??
The 2amh would break the 400. You could see the socket start to move in the video then you stopped it.
So no 12V version power stack ?

The 18v form factor should have been removed and left for aftermarket over 5 years ago.
Upgraded from an older 18v kit. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv I independently chose the drill and impact tool, before I came across the kit.I like the 3 speed impact gun. It seems more powerful than my older one, and it can be set to be really gentle. The drill is more appropriately sized for my use. I used to have a hammer drill, but I did not like that it was so big and it was not a great hammer drill. I rather have a smaller drill like this, and then get a corded hammer drill for the odd case I need that.
I just bought one but it won’t even remove lug nuts? DCF923 with a powerstack.
What's the size of the lug nuts and what size is the stud diameter? These two are the formula to determine how much torque would be needed, do a Google search when you find out and you'll get your answer using this method
@@Rightchuare M12x1.5 Small Accorn Spline key lugs. It was cause they zipped them on with a gun at the shop 🤦🏻♂️ Had no issues when I re-torque the lugs down to 90 ft lbs.

It's good to see that companies other than Milwaukee are capable of some degree of "innovation".
Put those Powerstack Lipo batteries in a circular saw and compare them, use something the pulls a lot of amps. These tests on small impact driver tests mean nothing.
Also you should of retorqued the first 5 and start over. We will see how good these batteries are when the Torque Test Channel gets a hold of them.
And of course it won't break the 450 one free, it's more then the Impact driver can handle, not the batteries.
Not impressed! Both the Milwaukee M12 Stubby and Dewalt Xtreme 12v both broke free 450 ft lbs. Dewalt's Atomic 20v impact wrench with the power stack only did 400 ft lbs just now. Maybe they will come out with a larger ah power stack battery that will at least keep up with the 12V's. And if the 20v Atomic impact wrench with more Amp hours can break free 500 ft lbs or better, then maybe milwaukee will update there 3 year old stubby or batteries.
Everyone try to make more power for the tool , not the right tool for the job , a lug nut is only require around 80ftlb

Sorry to be critical of an otherwise interesting and informative video, but how many people are really interested in the size and weight comparisons which consumed the first 7 minutes of the video? We can all see that the Power Stack battery is physically smaller. To me, that's as far as my interest goes in that regard, I'll bet that I'm far from unique. Thanks however for making the video.
