This was written by Brian and Freddie. They wanted to write an ‘inside out’ song, where the guitar had the main part, and the voice was the solo in the middle.
What I heard was Freddie and Brian wanted to do a song..backwards… soloing guitar where lyrics would be…and lyrics where the solo would be….bijou - a jewel
“Bijou” was an idea Freddie Mercury and Brian May had of making a song “inside-out”, having the guitar doing the verses and the vocal doing the break. Freddie created the chords, title, and lyrics, and the two of them worked on the guitar parts. Freddie sang the first line and then Brian transferred the melody to his Red Special. The song was finished without any input from Taylor or Deacon.

Freddie wrote most of this song and Brian and Freddie wrote the guitar parts which were said to be influenced by Jeff Beck (I can hear that). The title which Freddie was responsible for, means "Jewel" in French. Brian's guitar work in this song gives me goosebumps and melts my heart at the same time. It truly takes my breath away. This is such a beautiful song from the Innuendo Album, peaceful and sweet, I could lie in a hammock in the sunshine with a soft breeze blowing and listen to this song on repeat for the rest of my days. I never knew that a guitar alone could move me to tears until I heard Brian May. Both this song and "Nothin' But Blue" have that effect on me every time I hear them. Some of Brian's lyrics can make my cry as well, his talents never cease to amaze me. Freddie's vocals on this track are so very emotive, which takes this song up another notch, if that could even be possible. Thank you for your reaction.

The word bijou is French for precious gem or cherished asset... thus a very short love song... has to be the most beautiful love song ever written, TY Brian!! This is so beautiful! I have always loved this song. I agree with Patty, think it is about Freddie and Brian's friendship. I think it was meant to be an inside out song.
