I think that Quest for Booty was great. I would still consider it as an essential part of the Future Saga. It doesn't take long to beat and it heavily features the robot space pirates and those guys are always entertaining.

For Rift Apart, the most important ones are Tools of Destruction, A Crack in Time, and Into the Nexus, just because of the whole Dimensionator storyline, but the more the better.
I'm a huge fan of the OG Ratchet and Clank Trilogy. I barely remember playing the Future games since it was such a long time ago, and I wanted to pick the series back up but saw some of these other games and didn't know if it was worth trying out for the sake of the overall story. This really helped out!

Amazing vid dude!!! One day, I found going commando and up your arsenal and I've suddenly been a r&c fan!!! (My fav is going commando by the way...) Im am now interested in most of the ps3 games and I just found most of these games for about less than $10 each!!! However, im waiting for when I can afford a pre-owned $80 ps3 and im not quite sure if getting the games first is a good idea, because I would have no way to see if they work without a console. I think you don't necessarily need to play them all in order, the orginal and future trilogies stand on their own for the most part, but do play in order if you have the chance. And probably just the main future saga including Into the Nexus if you just want the major story and lore up to this point. It's been 13 years since Tools came out, they could do another remaster collection of the future saga plus ITN for the PS5 for those who want to catch up with the story.
Great video! I played the first one on PS2 at a friend’s house when it first released. I just bought a PS3 and all the games and ready to jump head first into the series and this was a big help - especially the parts on which games to delay playing
I think this simplified things pretty well i started at the ps4 remake never played the originals growing up and as I was looking for them I noticed so many of them are ether very hard to find or very expensive your video simplified my list way better then it was originally so thanks I knew there where spin offs or random versions that where just not important I just didnt know what ones this helped 😁
I’ve been playing ratchet and clank sense I was a kid, mostly the first 3. I got size matters on my psp, but I’ve been wanting to play through them all sense I recently got a ps5, which with ps plus, allows most of the games. It’s good to know which ones I don’t need to play tho, I got all 4 one on my ps3 and was not a fan. I didn’t know much about full frontal assault so it’s good to know that’s a tower defense game I don’t need to play either. This video is 5 years old at this point but still thank you!
I totally agree with you on Ratchets design in acit! I love it so much, it's my fave~ I like it the most out of all the games and also much more than the PS4 version. I just think he looks more realistic in acit

Personally I'd say: First three games on PS2 to avoid the glitches, then TOD along with QFB (it's short but very enjoyable, and has a brilliant pirate-style atmosphere, creative grind rail sections and good humour) and then obviously ACIT. Then Nexus I guess, but I still can't bring myself to play that one for some reason. But anyway, I honestly think QFB doesn't get enough credit, but I just wish it was longer because overall it was pretty strong in my opinion. The story still makes sense if you leave it out though
size matters and secret agent clank is a canon, I think size matters take place after Ratchet & Clank 1.. while secret agent clank takes place during Ratchet & Clank 3 because clank is an actor and has a tv show that time. Sorry for my bad english
My personal theory is that the Secret Agent Clank game is a reboot movie of the Secret Agent Clank series from UYA/ 3, this is why are there differences like Ratchet playing himself instead of Jeeves.
Yeah the Deadlocked PS3 port is pretty bad, but it's playable aside from ingame cutscene frameskips (plus that helmet glitch in that one cutscene) and having fps drops in places which never happened in the ps2 version, sucks that they fucked up the local co-op even though I never got to try it with a friend on either the ps2 or ps3. Also size matters is...interesting, on its own it's a decent handheld R&C game with a neat customization armor system but it's pretty unbalanced near the end of the game and has a lot of flaws in areas but I still enjoyed it. As for Secret agent clank not so much, it was just meh/mediocre and really unfocused gameplay wise with shitty stealth segments and minigames and I honestly think it's the worst R&C game and the story is definitely worse than FFA/Q-Force.
I believe the only reason they 'allowed' that Gladiator port to even come out was because the gameplay is actually fine (what matters most), it's the in engine cutscenes that are glitched up. (although yea I heard the co-op has more framedrops on PS3). And I think there's a reason it wasn't public download at first and was only 'free' during the launch, so only the people that bought the new game who would probably be a bit less likely to complain at the time lol.
Funnily enough, I'm running Deadlocked on my high end PC right now in an emulator and it looks....a lot better than the PS3 port. In fact I managed to mess with the rendering settings to pretty much minimize any minor visual glitches and the cutscenes look great with in-engine upscaling to 4K. And the gameplay is great fun of course. If you want to play Deadlocked and you have a good PC I highly recommend this method.
I honestly disagree that ratchet deadlocked is not important and didn't add anything. For 1: this is where ratchet starts to REALLY mature the most in this game, sure he kinda did in going commando and up your arsenal, but it's more obvious in deadlocked imo. Hell, his deadlocked personality is pretty much the same as how his personality was in tools of destruction. And 2: since most of the future series reference deadlocked, it is kinda a bit stupid to NOT include it as part of the main series imo. And 3: deadlocked kinda felt more like a better ending of the original classic games then up your arsenal imo. And a stupid reason of my own, it's kinda weird how the main series has to be 3 classic games and 4 future games (Tod, qfb, acit and itn), cuz it feels... off, it feels better if the classic series has to end with 4 games, just like how the future games ended with 4 gamas as well just so it felt more balance.
You know the only R&C game that needs a remaster/remake(like crash) is Size Matters, that game has many interesting things, but because it was a portable game it didnt look or even play as good as the ps2 games.
In tools of destruction if you enter the code to get ratchets convict out fit his outfit reads SZMTRZ it most likely is a reference to size matters in tools of destruction
While I generally agree with the list, I gotta say my own little twist on it. if you do play 'Up your Arsenal' or R&C3. You then DO have to play Deadlocked/Gladiator. The game in of itself doesn't add much to lore on its own story but it does actually reinforce a few things from both 3 and some insight info from one. Not to mention it does also leave an ever so brief snippet that does kinda lead to the future series. I say only do so if you play three thought because the events take place pretty quickly afterwards. If you skip three, then you can afford to skip it. These links and details are NOT critical to know, but if you do want to know some minor details in the R&C universe and how things flowed, deadlocked does actually support things despite being an arena based game. The point I'll use most is returning to Orxon. The Blarg homeworld from R&C1 that Drek devastated for his plans of financial gain, its state has worsened even more so against the odds and that's before being tampered with by the hosts of Deadlocked/Gladiator. It really shows just how messed up the corruption was and that had Ratchet and Clank failed. Drek's new world would have already likely became what Orxon once was during our time in R&C1 by now and that what we saw originally was only the starting process of its death.
I only played the first one fully and a little bit of Size Matters. Started going through them now to get ready for Rift Apart. Currently halfway through Going Commando. I wanna play all of them before Rift Apart.
I would not consider the PS2 games skippable at all. In order to FEEL the impact of Quest 4 Booty/Crack in Time's twist, and the return of a certain (overrated and overused) character, you MUST play Up Your Arse(nal). And to know how Ratchet and Clank MET, you MUST play the original. As a matter of fact, only Going Commando is really skippable. But why would you skip the game with some of the best levels and story and music of the franchise? And even if you don't give a hoot about the plot, the levels and music alone is worth it.
If you want to experience more of R&C, go ahead and play the future saga they stand well on their own. As you said, if you want to know how the two met, start with the PS2 saga :)
I played the games in this order 1.ratchet and clank (2002) 2.crack in time 3.ratchet and clank (2016) 4.Rift apart I know know it’s horrible but im literally buying them all on ps3 rn so i can live the childhood I should have had. (I played the first game when i was 4)
To give update because we got the game that released on PS5 and could say that can still play in release order for all games, BUT will admit for PS5 game. It should be played AFTER Into the Nexus AND then the Reboot just because the 2016 game on PS4 from what we can tell. It isn't canon at all. The movie looks like it ain't canon either since it is the movie tie-in to the game. So, for people that want to play the canon games. Play what listed in this video and THEN the PS5 game. The PS4 game and movie tie-in are completely optional. So can play the PS4 game and watch the movie tie-in. If you want to, but it not required.
Fantastic list and if you just want classic Ratchet and Clank gameplay, I totally recommend it. I personally enjoyed the story of "All 4 One" and I shall stick by my statement that it is the FUNNIEST Ratchet and Clank game to date, especially if you have all four characters on screen at once and they are interacting with each other.
I only ever played r&c 3 as a kid before picking up a crack in time years later. I couldn't believe how good the combat was, and how good it looked. Later on I picked up tools of destruction to understand the zoni stuff, and was disappointed that I hadn't played it first ( i didnt know it existed) because the wrench combat and hoverboots weren't there
I play every single ratchet game besides secret agent clank, to me personally after watching this, I still think that size matters is still a spin off, ima replay the 2016 one to make sure but their was nothing that hinted to them going to that universe in any other game, as well as deadlock but that took place after “up your arsenal”. I went by the run count all these years, if the number was on it, then it was cannon but I was a kid until the 2016 one dropped so now I’m digging into the timeline😂
Deadlocked and All 4 One aren’t mandatory but boy are they fun. All 4 One is surprisingly more fun than I’d originally expected, then again I’m a sucker for the 4th character with his somewhat change of heart and whatnot :)
I REALLY Got Into It Because Of The Rift Apart Trailer & Bought The 2016 Reimagining Game & Played It On My Channel… & MY GOD!! IT'S SO FUN & BEAUTIFUL 🧡 XD
you don't need to play Ratchet & clank 2016 since that is a reboot if you wanna play them in order for story all you really need is 1,2,3 and then the future series
There's is options for me , trying to play some of the ps2 classics , the ps3 i don't know if there is a good emulator, play the new remake and reimagined games , I think they are starting to make not doing remakes but making new storys based of that universe, so they can be more creative with the story and be better than the last games
My first Ratchet & Clank game was Ratchet & Clank full frontal assault even though it did not have a good story it was good and the defense system was good and this video is going to help me a lot getting into the series thanks👍
2:16 - I am 100% sure I got physical copy of quest for booty. Holding it in my hand right now. The only games I haven't played yet are Deadlocked, Size Matters and Secret Agent Clank. Hope there are versions of those for either PS2 or PS3 still put there somewhere. Kinda hard to get a physical copy of older games like this sometimes. If I can trust some of the RUclips reviews, Deadlocked PS3 port has terrible graphical glitch that cuts away characters geometry when they are close to camera... So I am probably buying PS2. What a coincidence that as you say, those are games that don't add anything to the continuity that is referenced and you don't even recommend them. Well, even if they will just collect dust, feels wrong for me to skip them. Oh, and the Reimagining I didn't play. I didn't care for it too much cause it wasn't the same storyline. If it was, I would definitely buy PS4 just for it. Watched the whole playthrough of it. It was... alright :/
Buying Nexus on the store somewhat recently still got me a free download for QfB if that's worth mentioning. It just sort of existed as a 'bundle' upon purchasing digital version of Nexus. (I even already had original digital QfB but this made a second version of it appear in my download list).
minor adjustment: R&C Going Commando Up Your Arsenal Deadlocked Tools Quest for Booty Crack in Time Nexus Quest for Booty and Nexus are short but really good. Definitely play the PS2 games if you can they're significantly better thematically and comedically imo and they're really worth the time. 2016 remake is very skippable if youve played RAC 1 imo, it feels pretty hollow after that
I have done the first game and the ps4 game and Quest for Booty and somewhat A Crack in Time when it comes to the others I might skip Secret Agent Clank especially with the missions with the gadgebots and Full Frontal Assault
I know this is late but the ps2 ports of size matters and soc are far superior to the psp versions. What probably happened was that in 2008 size matters was an amazing handheld game for the time but a pretty medicore console game so it got lower reviews
I disagree that anyone should ever skip the ps2 games. Even tho crack in time is my favorite game ever, you really won’t care about the characters as much as you should if you skipped any of the original trilogy. There’s a lot of things that just won’t have as much impact a good example is you won’t give a crap about dr nefarious unless you played UYA. Good vid tho I’m glad just to see the series get talked about!
I'm a rather unique Ratchet and Clank fan. I just watched the "Rift Apart" trailer for the PS5, and I still have my own PS2 as well as the very first Ratchet and Clank that ever released. But I've never even played any of the other games, so I literally have the biggest game gap to span here between practically a dozen games or more. Oof. But I absolutely LOVE 👌the look of "Rift Apart" so far, and I'm a huge Spyro/Jak & Daxter/Scifi fan, so it should be overall some really good times.🤙🎮 (No spoilers please.) But I think we can all agree as gamers that one of the best things we'd like is a Ratchet and Clank collection of all the cannon-applicable titles on the Switch. Yeah I know, Sony owns 'em, e.t.c., but in the words of Mr. Potato Head from Toy Story, "Hey, I can dream can't I?"
I have the 10th anniversary edition remaster of the first 3 and I have tools of destruction,a crack in time(my favorite),All for one,and into the nexus all for the PS3 Than than I have the reimagining for the PS4 They are working on a new one right now
And then of course, ratchet & clank: rift apart on ps5 that was just announced earlier today

@@GeorgePerakis I'm not surprised lol, especially with the recent 1.6.0 update being a major improvement over 1.4.0.
And a stupid reason of my own, it's kinda weird how the main series has to be 3 classic games and 4 future games (Tod, qfb, acit and itn), cuz it feels... off, it feels better if the classic series has to end with 4 games, just like how the future games ended with 4 gamas as well just so it felt more balance.
between up your arsenal and tools of destruction you are missing deadlocked and size matters
You know the only R&C game that needs a remaster/remake(like crash) is Size Matters, that game has many interesting things, but because it was a portable game it didnt look or even play as good as the ps2 games.
PSP remasters? Hmm.... A team would have to contact Sony.
Ratchet and clank size matters is a good but it certainly doesn't deserve a remake 🙄😑
In tools of destruction if you enter the code to get ratchets convict out fit his outfit reads SZMTRZ it most likely is a reference to size matters in tools of destruction
Yes it is :)
I actually really enjoyed playing Secret Agent Clank, it had stealth and it was always night time and lots of fun puzzles
Another generation, another marathon. I'll marathon the game when Rift Apart gets a release date.
I only played the first one fully and a little bit of Size Matters. Started going through them now to get ready for Rift Apart. Currently halfway through Going Commando. I wanna play all of them before Rift Apart.
Tools, Quest, and Crack are my favorite ones
secret agent clank is one of clank's secret agent clank films from the 3rd game. just a theory
Marinecorpgaming it is supposed to be a Dream that clank has before waking up in a Crack in time
Either that or the Clank's dream theory at the great clock :)
Marinecorpgaming A Game Theory Thanks for watching
I played the games in this order
1.ratchet and clank (2002)
2.crack in time
3.ratchet and clank (2016)
4.Rift apart
I know know it’s horrible but im literally buying them all on ps3 rn so i can live the childhood I should have had.
3:30 let's hope in the 20th anniversary they'll remake the first trilogy, and maybe deadlocked.
Later on I picked up tools of destruction to understand the zoni stuff, and was disappointed that I hadn't played it first ( i didnt know it existed) because the wrench combat and hoverboots weren't there
Thanks for sharing!
I like tod more than a crack in time
I play every single ratchet game besides secret agent clank, to me personally after watching this, I still think that size matters is still a spin off, ima replay the 2016 one to make sure but their was nothing that hinted to them going to that universe in any other game, as well as deadlock but that took place after “up your arsenal”. I went by the run count all these years, if the number was on it, then it was cannon but I was a kid until the 2016 one dropped so now I’m digging into the timeline😂
I prefer the European ToD and CinT covers...
Same here.
Secret agent clank is referenced in quest for booty... although it is just 1 or a few lines of dialogue
I have The dead walk game of ratchet and clank on the president 3
Deadlocked and All 4 One aren’t mandatory but boy are they fun. All 4 One is surprisingly more fun than I’d originally expected, then again I’m a sucker for the 4th character with his somewhat change of heart and whatnot :)
All 4 One is MUCH better with a friend :P
I REALLY Got Into It Because Of The Rift Apart Trailer & Bought The 2016 Reimagining Game & Played It On My Channel… & MY GOD!! IT'S SO FUN & BEAUTIFUL 🧡 XD
you don't need to play Ratchet & clank 2016 since that is a reboot if you wanna play them in order for story all you really need is 1,2,3 and then the future series
Go figure, only a couple months after this the remake became free on PS+ for a month.
Yep :P
Deadlocked was a big change and a bit repetitive but wasn't a bad game I really liked "Up your arsenal"
I love Deadlocked!!! Especially co-op.
I love your reviews so much!
Thank you :D
There's is options for me , trying to play some of the ps2 classics , the ps3 i don't know if there is a good emulator,
play the new remake and reimagined games , I think they are starting to make not doing remakes but making new storys based of that universe, so they can be more creative with the story and be better than the last games
My first Ratchet & Clank game was Ratchet & Clank full frontal assault even though it did not have a good story it was good and the defense system was good and this video is going to help me a lot getting into the series thanks👍
Glad you found the video useful!
Size Matters is my fav R&C tho!
Cool :)
It was... alright :/
Man I've played them all and Deadlocked and Size matters were my favorites
I was wish the collection was on Playstation now
It still isn't huh?
Buying Nexus on the store somewhat recently still got me a free download for QfB if that's worth mentioning. It just sort of existed as a 'bundle' upon purchasing digital version of Nexus.
(I even already had original digital QfB but this made a second version of it appear in my download list).
*Me cries in the corner*
Ratchet Gladiator is my favorite game
Very fun one indeed :)
According to a crack in time clunk was killed so secret agent clank did happen which makes no since
Maybe they were referring to UYA?
I once found quest for booty still sealed in a store since the release.
Yes I'm in europe.
Me too :P
minor adjustment:
R&C
Going Commando
Up Your Arsenal
Deadlocked
Tools
Quest for Booty
Crack in Time
Nexus
Quest for Booty and Nexus are short but really good. Definitely play the PS2 games if you can they're significantly better thematically and comedically imo and they're really worth the time. 2016 remake is very skippable if youve played RAC 1 imo, it feels pretty hollow after that
Thanks for sharing :D
welp i only played size matters as my first ratchet and clank game
on the psp
Nice :D
why skip quest for booty i think it brings a bit more in the story and rusty pete is an awsome character
I have done the first game and the ps4 game and Quest for Booty and somewhat A Crack in Time when it comes to the others I might skip Secret Agent Clank especially with the missions with the gadgebots and Full Frontal Assault
Ratchet&Clank 3 is my favourite game of the franchise
I think there needs to be a Nathan Drake collection for Ratchet and Clank because of Rift Apart.
I tried to finish the PS4 remake so that I'm not confused about Rift Apart... that didn't work.
Deadlocked is not debatable. It’s different yes but should be highly recommended...
Thanks!
deadlocked, harbinger is the best weapon, gun, everything
That one had such an original concept :)
really wish they had the hd games on ps4
For me i would just play ratchet and clank 1, 2, 3, deadlocked, tools of destruction, a creak in time, all 4 one and into the nexus.
Cool!
Good Taste Order®, see below:
Chronological, but skip Size Matters, Secret Agent Clank, All 4 One, Full Frontal Assault, Ratchet & Clank PS4.
NotOrdinaryInGames yes skip them
I have the 10th anniversary edition remaster of the first 3 and I have tools of destruction,a crack in time(my favorite),All for one,and into the nexus all for the PS3
Than than I have the reimagining for the PS4
They are working on a new one right now
Yeah I do believe they're working on a new one now :P
