I remember I was playing D&D with my cousin and my parents with my cousin's Brother in law one time. During this one particular campaign, we were stuck in the underdark, I was a Dragonborn Paladin, and I eventually came across a Sun blade during the journey. And I used it to fight some monsters/enemies. I can't remember exactly how it all happened (I was playing that campaign during high school, which I graduated in 2017) but the Sun blade spoke to me (my character) and it told me how it once belonged to a great warrior who died in battle. I again can't remember what specifically was said, but it also said something along the lines of wanting to find it's master. I asked, "who is your master?" and it said to me, "who is holding me now?" And I had the biggest grin on my face (me the player, not me the character) because the Sun blade had chosen me as it's new master!
It really needs a rework, having your powers run of HP is a bad start, having the damage you take scale faster with level than the damage is a poor design, great flavor, poor mechanics.
@@killcat1971 It's also quite difficult to arrange your stats under the standard array or 27 point buy. You need Con, Dex, Str, and Wis unless you go archer, finesse weapon, or two weapon fighting. But TWF doubles the HP reduction impact. If you try to go Str two-handed weapon, your AC suffers immensely unless you roll stats. The only way to go two-handed Str fighter with standard array/point buy and maintain a survivable AC is to pick variant human and take the Heavy Armored feat at level 1. It makes your options with the class limited.
Zachary Gadzinski all of them have some method of mitigating damage. Ghost Slayers take less damage from blood maledict and rites and lycans get regeneration. Mutants can get additional healing as well and don’t rely on rites as much, same as profane soul.

I'm definitely down for you to do a revised blood hunter video. I know of it because of Travis and Taliesan having played one before, but never actually looked into it all that deeply. I know it was originally designed by Mercer specifically for Vin Diesel to play when they were promoting his Witch Hunter movie. Then it was revised to be its own thing. I feel like due to the long range dex basis of the class the items might be different than the ones your fighter list, and I’m not sure if bracers of archery would work for Firearms....
To get the most out of crimson rite without the need of two bonus actions and twice the hp cost to apply two rites, u go archery and crossbow expert lvl 1 variant human is a great option cause of that
I'll be honest being able to shoot someone with a long bow while using crimson rite, hunters mark, and maybe a Zephyr strike all at the same time is nothing to sneeze at
@@NobodyDungeons Kensei Monk/Blood Hunter would make for an interesting build. The stats line up nicely. Human, Wood Elf, kenku, Shifter, halfling all seem to work with that.
It literally says blood magic... generally, that involves drawing blood. I also think that a Quiver of Elohanna(Probably didn't spell that right) is a good item. My Bloodhunter has that and a homebrew set of Magic gauntlets that have pretty much active camouflage, and since I'm a Profane Soul every six melee attacks I hit I can infuse a cantrip into my melee. Its pretty fun. Loved this video, I am going to bug my DM about these items at some point, I just imagine a reflavored single-handed sun blade and just duel wielding lightsabers.
May be worth revising to reflect the new changes to the class Mercer put out. For example: a headband of intellect would be an amazing item to have now as your intelligence would be bumped up to 19. Giving you more uses of your hemocraft die.
Top 10 magic items for each race or top five magic items for each race mainly because I wanna know the uniqueness of certain magic items for certain races
So I tend to rule that the werewolf claws can count as two handed, dueling, or duel wielding weapons because it opens up the play style a bit being that you can benefit from feats and abilities of other weapons types, but only one type at a time
So is there not a problem with the Sunblade canceling out the Bloodhunter Ability Dark Velocity? Also I feel like having a weapon as bright as the sunblade is a detriment given a bloodhunters amazing dark vision(more so if they’re an order of the ghost slayer)
Blood hunters are not restricted to melee attacks as they can use there crimson rite dice on ranged weapons as well making them rather good ranged combatants
In fact an archer makes for a great bloodhunter, for instance taking crossbow expert feat and using a hand crossbow, you only need to use rite on the one weapon but you get just as many attacks as a duel wielder, sure you might not be doing as much damage, but for the benefit of more health and attacking at range, it's worth it
@@NerdImmersion yeah with the chosen 1st level spell, Faerie fire or multiclass into druid 🤔 but I think magic initiate is better than multiclassing at least for now IMO

Please please please make a blood hunter video. I need help. I'm about to start a curse of straud campaign. And I want to play a blood hunter and I'm looking for neat but also good combos. Like mutagen hexblade. Or mutagen rogue. Or lycan monk or lycan fighter.
@@NerdImmersion Makes sense. I just started a new character in our campaign at level 10 as an Order of the Lycan BH. It was a toss up between that and Order of the Mutant. The mutagens seem like an interesting wrinkle for a character.
One thing I love to do is to get the defensive duelist feat so that I can have very good AC when playing this as order of the lycan can get a plus one AC and add your proficiency to your attacks meaning with 20 dexterity, max proficiency, and the duelist fighting style you can have a AC of 24 using defensive duelist, and you can have a attack bonus of 13 plus your crimson rite and damage dice meaning you can hit very hard
iv home-brewed my own blood hunter as many details are shite...grim psychometry being one crap thing...also i created a blood viles feature so you can use something besides hp for blood skills ...created various more blood magic skills and did away with limited element based rite damages... making there be one base Force damage rite for general BH and the subclass choice provides the other choices of rites instead. Had it overlooked by a good few dms and they think such altering is way more interesting and better in line with thematic just got more testing to do on some things.
Also some of the names in the mercer blood hunter are daft...just call it a freaking blood rite and blood magic ability non of this crimson rite nonsense.....or maladict sillyness.
Sooner or later someone will revise the class and put it up on the DMs guild. Modifying another's homebrewed class is probably not uncommon. The point of homebrewing is to dive into game design anyway. So adding more lycanthrope options, adding a psion hunter subclass, and a feat to regenerate hp would probably improve the homebrew.
Thankfully, Blood Hunter no longer lowers your max HP, so Amulet of Healh is less important, but still very useful.
