    Thank you!! Finding a passion for surfing 6 months into the adventure. Riding goofy in LA means that I am learning to take off backside before I have even figured out the frontside. This video is amazingly helpful!

    Hi Kales, I've been surfing nearly 40 years (still on a short board) but I know you're never too old to learn. A bit of mind surfing helps heaps too. I.e. think of yourself doing the movement in your head. (Visualisation) Still learning from your videos. Thanks.

    Damn it blows my mind how much I’m learning watching a RUclips video.
    When I first started surfing in Hawaii 15 years ago as a kid, I had to figure everything by doing it. I didn’t even know the exact term “backside”.
    I could only describe it as - I’m regular footed, and only like waves that break right, because heading left feels awkward as I don’t practice as much.
    Couple of minutes of scrolling later, Bam. A video that explained what I’ve been struggling with for longer than a decade.
    Fantastic

      I learnt surfing down in victoria and the closest goofy footer wave is garbage and is a thirty minute ride from my house. I can now barrel ride on my backhand better than my my fore hand

      Practice with your backside , its the best you can do to improve both ways, perhaps your backhand bottom turn is the shadow of your frontside carves

    Great tutorial! Subscribed! Two small questions: 1. why do people bend their back knee towards the inside of their stance? 2. when is it that you are supposed to dig your leading hand into the water in order to pivot faster for a backside snap? I personally find it easier to do more radical turns by using such technique. On the other hand, have not seen you doing it on the video so I am curios about your point of view.

    Great stuff. How’s about a video on back foot position and pressure. I want to transition from trimming
    to carving turns and usually bog a rail as my back foot was always too far forward. It’s on track pad now but not sure how much pressure to apply to turn aggressively without bogging

    • @HowtoRip
      @HowtoRip  6 лет назад +3

      Definitely. Skating will help with this too

      Great, so similar to kick turn/5-0/slash then?

    • @SjoerdWess
      @SjoerdWess 5 лет назад +1

      @@RobSymington probably got the turns down already since it's 7 months ago, but what helped me a tremendous amount was skating in a mini (pipe) with a normal board and just act like the coping is the lip of the wave. Scary at first because it's metal instead of water, but eventually you'll get the hang of it and realise what the similarities are with surfing.

    It's frustrating watching these videos because you make it look so easy. I couldn't ride a snowboard switch and can't do it on a skate board or surf board either. My brain cannot compute 😔

      The right turn on the right part of the wave is incredible advice! I always end up pumping too much "racing" to the end of the wave, missing sections and looking
      very "flattish" to an onlooker from the beach as opposed to doing a"Top to Bottom" style surfing with lots of turns in between...I see lots of guys that need help with this tunnel vision, will you do a video (perhaps with a GoPro) to demo namely what types of sections/ conditions to precisely look for with POV?

    • @boltup5566
      @boltup5566 5 лет назад

      @@dolbyderringer2225 great comment. Its easy to stand from the shore and say somebody pumped themselves off the wave. Showing go pro footage of when to pump and when to bottom turn right away would help. You could also show what the different waves look like when theyre approaching. Isurftribe has one go pro video like this.
