Checkpoints that work for me that I wish someone told me - back foot aallll the way back on tail pad; when opening shoulders off the bottom, the inside shoulder should dip lower. This ensures you're driving on rail with board tilted towards wave (more control). Level shoulders make it more unstable and off the fins instead of rails. Whatever the wave is doing think get back down or onto wave energy. Essentially the bottom turn throws you up the face and you need to get back onto wave by turning down or carving around if it's not a pitching section. Then watch Lakey for further inspiration by any other distilled surf brilliance or just how to workout and move right.

We would like to see a mindset episode. What it takes to compete and how the pre and post mindset rituals play a part of professional surfing.
Jack robbo has something special going on in his mind ( for example). Breath, meditation, visualization techniques.?

Love the breakdown. Unfortunately, now at 61 they are much more carvy, unless it’s a close out section. Will still have fun trying it though. Thanks as always 🤙

Amazing video! I'm trying to figure out the weight distribution throughout the maneuver. Is it always backfoot weighted all the way until the post snap and then back to the front foot? Brad Gerlach mentioned there's a transition to the front foot and then back at the end of the bottom turn. Also I feel like the weight has to be on the front foot in order to push the tail around 🤔 Would love your input!

Most weight should be on your back foot during the bottom turn. When you're coming up the face of the wave, you should go "weightless" as Lakey says, meaning it's almost like your releasing pressure from your back foot into the snap. Once you do the snap, weight shifts on your front foot to let your fins loose and to stay in the wave. As you come out of the snap and are riding back down the wave, the weight should start shifting back toward your front foot. When you are coming back down the face of the wave (post snap) it's almost like you're getting a second drop in on the wave, so can shift your weight depending on how steep the wave is. Lakey, or others, will probably have better input but I hope this helps. As you practice more turns, you'll start to get a feel for weight distribution and timing
