This video by Rammstein for the song Du Hast is one of the most visually dynamic metal videos every made. This was the first time Alexis heard Rammstein. When released in 1997, Du Hast was a breath of fresh air as Burch put it for the metal music scene. A true throw back rhythm mixed with industrial and tech rock.

First off the material on their bodies that you thought was blood is actually fire proofing it’s a gel that they smeared all over themselves so I don’t get burnt when the fires come from up and below on stage number two power wires connected to the gentleman‘s fingers that’s on the treadmill and playing the organ piano or whatever it is And every time he touches a key he makes a connection in the electrical circuit so what you’re seeing is not video editing it is actually the real concert. I know this because I seen it so just wanted to let you know that and yes overseas they are allowed to use Fireworks and all that stuff while he’s a certified pyrotechnic so he does his own fireworks on stage over here in America. He couldn’t do that but since he’s in Paris, France he can.

In Mexico City, there is a government program for environmental monitoring (Air Quality). If the pollution levels are high, they basically make that old cars stop circulating. Whem Rammstein came to Mexico City, that Air Quality Monitoring Program, which had not been triggered for over a month, had to be turned on as emergency right after their first night.

A lot of people don't realize just how big time Rammstein was and still is. Very few international bands singing in their native tongue have had this kind of worldwide impact on the music scene, like they have. I still remember when their music made it to the states back in the late 90s. Du Hast was pretty much playing on every major Top 20 radio station across the US - in German. Their album "Sehnsucht" was a banger from start to finish! And their live shows are some of the best you will ever see. They truly give their fans their money's worth. They sold out Madison Square Garden in less than 30 minutes. That is some mega rockstar level stuff! You should check out Feuer Frei next. That is one of their more "pyrotechnic" songs they perform and was also featured at the beginning of XXX with Vin Diesel. Killer song! But they have a solid library of music to dive into. There was a major accident in Berlin (1996 as the other commenter mentioned). They were just doing fly-by-night pyrotechnics in their shows and a piece of the set was on fire. It was a metal "Rammstein" decoration with flames inside. It fell onto the stage/front row of the crowd. There are rumors that several people got injured, but I don't think anyone actually did. A bunch of the crew and Till jumped down to help some of the crowd and get the fire extinguished while the band continued to play. Till then jumped back on stage and continued the show.

Rammstein is one of the most famous metal bands and living legends with the same line-up for nearly 30 years. Rammstein don't have their roots in metal but in punk, which many people don't know. See also haircut of Till Lindeman. They are a german band and are considered the best live band in the world by far, especially when it comes to showmenship, pyro and fire. Above all, Rammstein uses pyro quite differently than all other bands. There is no blood on the arms, but fire protection gel. . Rammstein concerts are sold out in minutes, no matter where they are performed. Till Lindemann is certified as a pyrotechnician and that's why Rammstein concerts around the world are rarely limited, not even in the USA. But after a Rammstein concert you can buy a T-Shirt written on it: I survived Rammstein. The Rammstein Stadion Tour is the greatest rock/metal show on the road in these days. Rammstein transports 1,350 tons of equipment for example for the stadium tour in Amerika. 7 Boeing 747 aircraft and 80 trucks are needed to move this mass of cargo. The stage on which Rammstein make hell for the fans is 61 meters wide. It is 30 meters deep and almost 37 meters high. 300 people travel permanently with the band to ensure that everything runs smoothly. In each city, 260 - 400 people also help to set up the stage. The construction of the steel colossus, which Rammstein calls "stage", takes 7 days.
Rammstein's music is a mixture of techno (electronic music) and metal (= industrial metal). Rammstein concerts are a life time experience that you will never forget. Their videos are art but also often controversial.
Rammstein also refers to classical German literature, e.g. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's. Several of their songs are related to controversial and taboo subjects such as sadomasochism, homosexuality, intersexuality, incest, pedophilia, necrophilia, cannibalism, pyromania, religion and sexual violence. Also several of their songs are allegedly inspired by real-life events or politics. Rammstein lyrics are very deep and are also often used in school and universities around the world to learn German. There are people who learn German only because of Rammstein. Rammstein fans from 10 to 90 yeras old are considered to be the craziest, hysterical and most fanatical fans in the world. In concerts from the hardcore fans all over the world it is expected that you can sing along with the German lyrics even if you don't speak German.

Great reaction and explanation as usual, but it's worth noting that while the US might have been a post-metal grunge wasteland for music, Europe was exploding in the 80s and 90s with techno, industrial, Eurodance, and dozens of other styles, mostly driven by the club scene. Rammstein was the first of these groups to really make in-roads in the US, but they weren't the first group that was known in Europe.
There was also an expansion of Goth genres in the 90s. If you want a good example of a bridge between 80s hard rock and 90s industrial, check out an early song by Inkubbus Sukkubus like Church of Madness (1990). They're a British Gothic Rock band with a lot of lyrics pulled from pagan folk.

Man, I remember when these were coming out. Industrial Metal was just so heavy and weighty. Rammstein balances it so well with the complex rhythms they layer into it keeping the heavy weighty metal but also a bouncy lighter melodic feeling. Then that voice man. :D And they put on a show like few other bands can even dream of.

The literal translation of du hast is “you have”.
The more English version of the song is “you hate”.
Google says according to the band the song basically is about a dude not wanting to marry his girlfriend due to band loyalty.
I’m sure there is hundreds of other interpretations out there.
The OMV on MTV was strange to put it kindly. The song was so catchy and different, as you mentioned, that it became fairly popular.
The band is still touring and recently played a big festival in Portugal.

Du hast and Du Hasst are phonetically the same, but Du Hast means "You have" while Du Hasst means "You hate". When spoken you can only tell the difference based on sentence structure and context. The song is also a play on traditional German wedding vows.

Lots of good stuff from the likes of Rammstein, Ministry, Bigod20, Nitzer Ebb, Econoline Crush, Front 242, KMFDM, Revolting Cocks, Stabbing Westward, Pop Will Eat Itself. Been hoping you'd get to Rammstein almost as much as Nightwish. Great vid. You may hear about the lead singer's (Til Lindemann), side project, "Lindemann".....DO NOT expose it to Alexis....I love it, and you probably would to, but it is very extreme. Several of the videos from "Lindemann", the uncensored versions, can only be found on porn sites....yes, porn sites. So, if someone says to check out "Lindemann", do so WITHOUT Alexis. If you plan on more Rammstein, I think "Engel"...she'd really like it, I think. Or you could go with the live version of "Buch Dich"....no, no, no...joking. Alexis might quit the show if you expose her to "Buch Dich". And there are a couple of Rammstein songs where the title makes it obvious you should avoid showing to a young woman like Alexis.
And Burch, I avoid the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well!!!

The blood is from ‘Mein Teil’. The song is about Armin Miewes, the German cannibal. During the set they do a scene with till dressed up like a butcher and Flake, the keyboard player, playing the part of the guy being eaten
The guys in Rammstein are all very tall….except for Paul (the guitarist with the flat hair) who is 5 foot 10. He is above average height in most countries but gets bugged by his band mates for being the smallest member
Regarding the show. It takes 2 full days to assemble the stage and 3 days to dismantle. Each show asked 50 semi trucks, two of which are metalwork facilities as some parts of the stage have to be welded. They tour with two full and identical rigs….so it’s 100 trucks.
