"I can't say that on camera" got me 💀, I really wish our teachers have much more in common with students to make learning fun.

    What school is this at?
It seems like a great professor/way of teaching/class room structure.

Im currently writing my essay for grad applications (on Dubai being a city of the postmodern and will that be a blueprint for all cities) and was stuck on Jameson's artistic writing style. THIS HELPS SO MUCH THANK YOU

I'm pretty sure Family Guy is parody though. I was taught that Parody mimics something, and the word mimic carries a negative connotation. Whereas Pastiche doesn't really mimic, but it imitates with a positive reflection.
If I had to try and put this another way, I guess I'd say that parody imitates something to poke fun at it, while pastiche imitates with respect and works as an homage.

I rewrote the lyrics to "Lucky Man" by Emerson, Lake, and Palmer as a tribute to Robin Williams and called it "Funny Man". That would be considered a pastiche, right?

Since you aren’t commenting on anything, just mimicking ELP’s style, yes it would be pastiche (although if you are a good enough songwriter, you could conceivably sneak some commentary in there). . .

This is a wonderful job of teaching, but he misses one essential point. I think the best way to define pastiche is that it is a work that mimics something respectfully to make a point, even to make a different point. (Notice, I said respectfully!) For instance, the Declaration of Sentiments is a pastiche of the Declaration of Independence. It copies the structure, and even much of the wording, of the Declaration of Independence to make the point that women deserve the same rights and respect that the colonists did when they rebelled. A parody makes fun of the work, the style of the artist, or the genre, or the people involved. SNL often uses parody to satirize aspects of American society, especially Republican politicians. Clueless is a pastiche of Jane Austen's Emma. The Pink Panther movies were all parodies of detective drama.
