This is a corker. I got the 1,2,3,4 in person tip a few months back and it really works. The flow we had in the games of our youth is still there. And it really makes putting fun again and reduces the incidence of muttered foul language. Thanks Danny.
November 28th 2022 was the first time I've tried to hit a golf ball. I'm trying to not develop bad habits in the beginning. This is what I've got so far... ruclips.net/user/shortsrBx1Skx4odQ?feature=share Any specifics I should start with first? Sorry about the music, I added it as a joke for my dad...
My putting was going wayward this year and costing me greatly.. These are great tips Danny. A great reminder to get back to the basics and stick to the routine. Will be ‘putting’ this into practice over the summer break ready for the new year of golf. Merry Christmas from Aus and keep up the great work.
This is very good advice for most people. It’s a typical modern setup, and stroke. However, I changed something one day, and had the best putting day of my life. 23 total putts, for a -7(65). I had been struggling to make putts, so I set up like Jack Nicklaus almost as a joke, on the first hole. Feet close together, and feet very open to target. From there, I just sorta pushed the ball onto my start line. The results were amazing. 13 one-putts(some for par). I don’t recommend this for everyone, but it not only allowed me to see my line better, but it also allowed me to start the ball exactly on that line. I’ve since gotten away from it, and have been struggling again. I think I’ll go back to that weird way of putting, and see what happens. lol
Last evening I find the Putting Lesson You Will Ever Need on youTube. Today I had a Senior Completion on My club Tranås GK. I practice your advice on putting green and I felt directly that this will help me. Today I did my very best round this year with a 67 net and only 31 putts. I totally agree with you that tis is the only drill you ever need.
This showed up in my email today. WOW. We are under a foot of snow here and today I decided to bring my putter to work where I have long hallways. Today. The day the putter drill shows up. Totally awesome and thank you Danny!
Great video Danny! The thing i struggle the most is figuring out how to adjust the distance when a putt is uphill/downhill. My distance on a flat putt is usually "ok" (within a foot/foot and half) but as soon as i've got the same distance with a bit of an uphill, i very often fail to adjust, leaving the putt 5 foot short, or blasting it past the hole. Would love to see tips on how to gauge the slope and adjust the stroke length/speed accordingly. Unless it's all a matter of feel!
If it's a slow ish group, take a walk and circle around the ball and pin, this will allow you to see the slope from all angles. And it is just on feel as most public courses in your area will have very varying greens that need a different touch. Make sure to use the practice green and not just the range prior to a round
I watch your videos every Saturday and putting has been my weakest part in spite of my practicing. Your 1234 drill helped me so much! I’ve played 3 rounds and have seen a big improvement. The 1234 keeps me away from getting in my head and gives me focus that isn’t thoughts. Thanks!!
Danny does it again! He fixed my drive, now this video is well on its way to fixing my putting. Prior to watching this, it was nothing for me to 3 putt 5+ times in a round. Actually I usually stopped counting after 5. Now I am getting over the ball and using the 1-2-3-4. Then 2 rounds of using it with 3rd round results of: 3 putt 3 times (once with 1st putt at least 70 ft. away. Burned edge of cup numerous times on first putt and about 7 tap in 2nd putts! Thanks again Danny!
Good tip.... I like to pace the distance to the hole. Typically a putter swing to the outside of the right foot putts the ball 5 paces... Add a ball width per pace. Massive help with confidence on putt lengths
like the 1,2,3,4 sequence - I’ve had good results on distance control with lag putts with making the look back from the target to the ball, and the backswing, into one motion - effectively merging the 2 and 3 of your sequence into one. I don’t do it all the time, but one to try
Hi Danny, Talk about lazy….I carry around the mirror in my bag all season and the only time I have taken it out is in the winter when I decide to practice inside. I appreciate the reminder to use the knowledge and equipment that I have rather than just being frustrated and telling people “I am a really horrible putter!”
Listened to Cam Smith after he won The Open. He sorted his "bad" putting Saturday to great putting Sunday with a short mirror session. I purchased a mirror. Like you showed I had the ball way to far forward which not only affected my strike but my alignment adversely. For me it worked out that I had the bridge of my nose over the ball for proper alignment and strike. It felt really weird to start but as more putts fell. No longer weird.
Completely agree that round the green is surely where us amateurs ship strokes. We can't expect to get in on in regulation every time so we need to sharpen our short game. Thanks for this Danny and your chipping vids. Keep it coming!
I seem to have lost my putting ability but your tip about getting your head over the ball and almost "hunching" has worked a treat. I hadn't realised how much I was moving away and standing up. Thanks Danny!
Fantastic, Danny! I just followed your simple steps on the practice putting green and had IMMEDIATE improvement in my putting results. Thank you again!
Danny, just used your tip about putting posture. Noted I was too upright and kept pushing all my putts. Once I correct my posture as you described (putting my head straight down ) . I started hitting all my putts Straight. Just got back from shooting my best round of the year and no 3 putts! Thank you.
Danny, I appreciate the tips on keeping the head over the ball. A problem that I am having with putting right now is maybe 5 out 10 putts are rimming around and out of the hole. I am not over hitting the ball. Or at least not in my feelings
Just starting to play again after an 8 year break and this video has urged me to get on the putting greens and develop a routine and not just keep going to the range practising drives and irons, thanks Danny
Tried this today and 60% of putts were so much closer to the hole. We won’t mention the other 40%! I just need to embed the drill. Thanks for another super helpful lesson.
Great content and 100% putter is the most important club in the bag. If your shaving strokes off your round it's usually your putter. Nice simple routine KIS works for me.
Great to see this. My putting is a pretty strong point of my game and I know why now ... because I do most of these things. I'm definitely in the 10% for posture. This video validates the bits I'm doing well and gives me a couple of extra things to consider that hopefully will ingrain further confidence in my putting. Thanks Danny
Great advice as always, BUT, if I may make so bold, I can't agree with the comment about "reading" the putt sideways. Surely it's better to stand or squat behind the ball, look for the line with binocular vision, choose a spot within your peripheral vision when addressing the ball and roll the ball over that spot. Everything else in the videos is absolutely spot on. I just don't think you can line up a putt looking at it sideways.
Here is a tip from pool I use to put to piggy back off of center of the ball (billiards) over your gaze like you said. Figure out which is your dominant eye. Make a diamond with your hand to just cover everything except a round object in the distance. Now close your left eye and then your right eye. The eye that keep the ball in view is your dominant eye. Now, put that eye over the ball, not your nose nor so it seems to be in the middle. Dominant eye then open both. You will now aim where you meant to and hitting it more square.
N.P. I was just scouring if there were any techniques or strategies to incorporate this and actually came across the old school plumb bobbing technique. I haven't tried it out yet, but I will report back. Also, I tried to exaggerate rounding my shoulders more like you said and I found my pendulum to feel more consistent. I typically always pinched my shoulders blades together without noticing. Awesome tip I did not even know I needed! @@DanielMaude
Thanks, got a bit I consistent with putter. Used this tech to tidy up. Saving 6 shots every game and get the pure joy of draining a few long ones every game

Great instruction as always. I certainly think getting the correct posture and set up with eyes over the ball stops you looking up too early which is a killer
Great Putting Tip Danny! I'm like you! For the past year, my putting has been in a slump! Far too many 3 putts and sometime, I hate to admit a 4 putt! I have always used a palm grip with the left hand and not so much with the right hand. I try to use a consistent light grip and an upright shaft angle matching the forearms. I'm not missing the putts by far, but I'm still missing them. I'll wager that my putting is costing me upwards to 10 strokes a round. I really feel that the problem is being caused in in take away. Anyway, good video Danny! Keep up the good work!
Great video! My putting was the best part of my game but has slipped lately. Tried this on my last round and had great results. Now I just do the routine (my posture was definitely bad) I changed it from 1-2-3-4 to 1-2-3-center of putter and my stroke is much freer and my contact better. I love that you’ve done a putting video. Sucks though, cause I live in Canada. And I have no green to practice on. But I’m gonna try the “1,2,3,4” routine. I’m saving this video until spring. 😆
Another fine video and tips. Nice routine. I've seen some looking at the target as they stroke the ball vs looking down at the ball, any thoughts? Thanks
@@DanielMaude I've found that in general I do better looking at the target as I strike. I think one of the things it helps we with is judging the energy needed to cover the distance ball to hole. Thanks. Always enjoy your tips
Yes the game within a game. 3 stokes into the par 5 yesterday. Then 3 putts. Frustrating. My short putts especially very often just miss to the left of the hole. I’ve been trying to work out WHY. I think because as you say it’s because I’m just leaning slightly back behind the ball at address. Going to video myself. Thanks Danny
Good video and thx. Constructive criticism- seems like it just takes so long to get to the point. Not here but on most sites. Cut to the chase is a good maxim
Great video Danny! I know you talk about the swing being on an arc but I’d like to hear what happens to the putter head after impact. Are we closing the face or trying to have it square to target line. Thanks I struggle with how to finish the stroke. 👍🏻
Club face naturally closes. It should never stay square to target line unless you are using a broom handle litter where the shaft goes straight up and down
Morning Danny, Good video as usual (we all look forward to Saturday mornings). What is the mirror model you are using please ? Also, are the compact mirrors as good as the larger ones ? Thank you (am planning to start your Senior Series this week) Graham T
Best thing I've come to realize are these points: 1) If you were to roll a ball with your dominate hand, you'll know how much power to give it to get it to the hole. You can use the same muscle memory with your putter, your dominant trailing arm providing the power and follow through as if you were to roll it. This will ensure consistency on the power of your putts. 2) Keep your eye focused on the ball until after you've putt and followed through. This will ensure accuracy. I see so many Golfers pull their head up to watch the putt right as they strike it, which throws off accuracy and power The best way I can further describe #2 is, as an interior painter when I am cutting in an edge, my eye remains on the brush edge but also sort of a blank stare at it so I can watch just in front, and just behind the brush. This same principal is applied when striking the golf ball, you will ensure you are hitting your putter dead straight everytime, and taking into account #1 for power, you'll achieve some great putts.
On Monday, at the golf range, I mentioned this video to my playing partner, especially your 1-2-3-4 routine. Then I decided to apply the exercise to my practice - I was using my driver. I usually slice my driver shots. Applying your little 1-2-3-4 exercise, focusing on the 100yd post, I hit the ball straight over the the post with my driver on 7 of 10 shots. It all needs more work, but I think I'll keep using that routine and apply to my game in the spring.
Just saying here that few pro videos online will help the individual but Danny is worth watching a lot. Thanks 🙏🏼 Danny.
I appreciate that Nathan

Great video and love the routine? What starts your putting stroke motion - do you have a trigger? Do you feel like your sternum powers the stroke?
Hi Kevin, it’s like saying what starts your throwing action, it’s a “reaction” to what you are visualising. That’s why I love the 1.2,3, 4 routine
Great info as always. 🎉❤
Great video Danny! I know you talk about the swing being on an arc but I’d like to hear what happens to the putter head after impact. Are we closing the face or trying to have it square to target line. Thanks I struggle with how to finish the stroke. 👍🏻
Club face naturally closes. It should never stay square to target line unless you are using a broom handle litter where the shaft goes straight up and down
Thanks Danny can’t wait to try tomorrow!
Morning Danny, Good video as usual (we all look forward to Saturday mornings).
What is the mirror model you are using please ?
Also, are the compact mirrors as good as the larger ones ?
Thank you (am planning to start your Senior Series this week)

Best thing I've come to realize are these points:
1) If you were to roll a ball with your dominate hand, you'll know how much power to give it to get it to the hole. You can use the same muscle memory with your putter, your dominant trailing arm providing the power and follow through as if you were to roll it. This will ensure consistency on the power of your putts.
2) Keep your eye focused on the ball until after you've putt and followed through. This will ensure accuracy. I see so many Golfers pull their head up to watch the putt right as they strike it, which throws off accuracy and power
The best way I can further describe #2 is, as an interior painter when I am cutting in an edge, my eye remains on the brush edge but also sort of a blank stare at it so I can watch just in front, and just behind the brush. This same principal is applied when striking the golf ball, you will ensure you are hitting your putter dead straight everytime, and taking into account #1 for power, you'll achieve some great putts.
Thank you Danny - a very useful explanation and guide for consistent putting.
BTW - is this filmed at Princes?
It’s is Princes Perry, lovely course
@@DanielMaude Thanks Danny. We were there and at Canterbury early December.
@@DanielMaude - David Monk, my golfing partner, was a young pro at Canterbury back in the day.
It’s amazing, great at clearing the mind and keeping things simple
Just brilliant, knocked 5 strokes of my normal round.
Amazing John
Great lesson, one of your best. Who sells that putting mirror? Maybe I’ll ask Santa for one. Thanks a mil.
Great putting tips...I hope these will help me drop a few strokes! What is the mirrored putting aid you are using?
Thanks Danny. Now I know where my putting inconsistency comes from 😁! I’ll start working on this system immediately.
Thanks Eric 👍
@@DanielMaude …went out today and put it into practice…guess what…I putted better than I have for a long time! Thanks again Danny.
