Getting back onto a real golf course, chipping was the thing I was finding slightly frustrating. I watched your video on Saturday morning just before heading out to play and it was immediately helpful - including (perhaps especially) on 40-50 yard pitch shots. Thank you - it really was a game changer for me!
This is exactly where my golf struggle is currently. Thank you good sir for the help. Along with your video about swinging the club freely, I’m confident this will help to get my next round much lower.
Danny your latest string of videos demonstrating the "Ground up" approach have really been a game changer for me. Your approach has given me the "hidden" reference point to build my swing. It works brilliantly. You would not believe how this has effected my confidence, composure and competence. Its taken a good 5 shots off a 9 hole round. After decades of embarrassments I am keen to keep improving my game. MANY THANKS TO YOU DANNY
Thanks for making this so simple to understand and apply. Went out and played and the consistency is unbelievable. You can apply this method for all 100 yard and in shots. Truly a game changer!
100%. and putting as well! Have been struggled chipping for a long time and, it's been all I practice for a year+. Finally got a clue watching a video of Sergio chipping and noticed how connected he was and how he controlled it with his body. Keeping connected has made a huge difference. This works! (I'm in the Stricker/Day camp of minimal wrist action).
I've watched dozens of instructional videos as my game from 40 yards and in has eroded over the past 3-4 seasons. I got so bad that I started chipping with one hand only because I was much better that way! TBH, I'm quite good at it, but it's embarrassing. THIS bottom-up technique has absolutely changed my game. I still need to work a lot on distance control and trajectory, but I'm back to chipping with two hands. Thanks for the lesson and for producing the best instructional videos on the net!
Just wanted to say to say thanks Danny. I have been using your videos over the last couple of years and it has really helped my driving, in particular, but also my general understanding of the mechanics of my swing. That translates to much more confidence on the course and better scores. Keep up the good work!
Dear Danny, Thank you for this great lesson. I practiced this a bit before my round today. I kept trying to do the same thing during my round. Great stuff! I shot an 84 (I’m an 18 handicap, so 84 is good for me.). What I really like about your lessons is that they are easy to incorporate and don’t result in unraveling something else. Thank you again, Brigitta
After a long period of pitching inconsistency I latched on to this link like a clam and it has saved me in countless pressure situations. Playing off 5 you’d think I’d know how to pitch well but this still has helped no end
Love the analogy of the screwing the lid feeling, can see it really helping me when I get a bit 'armsy'. The drill stick is a good aide too - just need to do it when there are no greenkeepers around!!
Hi Danny Many thanks for this, it confirmed a number of things I was working on in recent weeks and now I have put it all together I am hitting every chip spot on. Hope to get onto the golf course soon to put it to the real test. Thanks Danny
Just finished up with my weekend foursome ages 60-80, all of us watching your videos. I’ve never seen better chipping from these guys thanks to this and your other videos. Lots of ‘Danny, Danny’ chants going on today. BEST INSTRUCTION EVER!!!!! Thank you, please visit us in Vancouver
OMG, this is a game changer for me. Simply the best video on golf ever. Been playing about 5 years and always a god awful chipper. This will save me at least 5 shots a round. Tried this in the back yard and great god HUGE difference and I can see a way to get better and better. Now if only you could give me tip to stop snap hooking my drives to the left and having them go nowhere.... THANK YOU DANNY!!!
Just wanted to say massive thanks watched your last few videos and really helped with my game was always fade or slicing my driver but now because of you I now can shape it both ways cracking content mate excellent advice and instruction
I like this, keeping the hands and arms consistant with a natural turning path. I have been doing similar taking wrists out of it, but keeping the swing consistant is something I need to work on, thanks Danny!
One of your best ever Dan, thank you. I think it is fair to say that any duff or thin is as a result of the top end of the club being directed by any hand movement.
This has been the most effective video I've seen to ending my short game misery, which has been around for a while. Effective but so natural and easy to practice. Game changer for sure👍
Hey, this one really IS a game changer! I tried this today and it worked like a charm! I saved at least 6 strokes and had my first-ever sub-par 9 holes! Thanks, Danny! I am recommending this video to all my golf buddies!
It seems as though it’s really a mini take back of your normal takeaway. Great stuff and I like that you always give credit when it’s due to other coaches. Happy Easter, Danny.
Thanks Danny, I have been working on something like this for weeks in my garage with practice balls, now it makes sense. The one thing is keep elbows clamped to your sides so they don't escape, no wrists.. This has been my biggest problem for years, hope it sticks when I get back to golf proper Many thanks Michael
Thank you, Danny! My golf league begins on Thursday. I really love the flexible alignment stick in the ground as a guide. I will try that next time I practice. Love your teaching. Blessings to you and yours.
I would add to this by keeping more weight distribution on the left. But yes, on a small chip and run or pitch starting from the bottom up adds stability and consistency to the strike quality! Nice lesson Danny! Thanks.
Im playing my first round of the season tomorrow. Im so excited to try this technique. Your training videos have taught me most of what I know about the game. Thank you, thank you and thank you.
G'day Danny, of late when chipping I have been feeling my weight shift in to my right heel on the backswing and then in to my left heel on the downswing with great results. Sounds like your 'twisting the lid' is creating the same feeling. Thanks for the excellent tuition mate.
Playing for the first time tomorrow morning since November last year. Due to the lockdown and having c 19 at Xmas. Watched all your video's over and over. Let's see if I can put your ideas in to action. But at the end of it. I am playing golf again. Thanks Danny for your video's.
This is the second video now that I’ve seen of yours with the lid theory and again I find it to be the most important lesson that makes so much sense and clicks to me. Thanks Danny! Top notch. 🤘🏻
Danny, I am following your weekly videos for ages now and every single one of them is pure Gold, easy to follow and understand instruction. Do you have book or are you planning to release an instructional book in the future with your instruction Tipps?
Awesome, now get where my problem comes from. I was always told to keep the body still and hence become totally hands and arms. Your previous drill has sorted out my driving so now I can work on the short game, where I lose most shots. Many thanks Danny.
Danny - I have recently been a little inconsistent with my short game - I am sure this tips will help me a lot. I have already started to think about using the legs more - so this step will be a natural move for me to improving my game.
Hi Danny. You have no idea how good this for me at the minute. Eight weeks ago I had a fall and fractured my left wrist. The plaster cast is off and I have started my rehabilitation exercises. I literally started chipping yesterday with my right hand only. This will be a great help. Cheers.
Brilliant tips as usual Danny. Played first round yesterday with a Cleveland 58° wedge and my play around the green was on point definitely my best purchase during lockdown.
Thanks so much for this lesson, Danny! It helped immensely. I hit a bunch of balls on my back yard chipping course in Ohio, and using your bottom-to-top swing, was making one solid strike after another, dropping ball after ball around the target (a whirligig). It's like unscrewing the lid on a jar, right? Unscrew the lid, screw it back on,. Open it, close it.. Open it, close it. I kept that image in my mind. And keep your trail arm tucked close to your body. I can't wait to do this on a practice green and then the golf course. Chipping has been the worst part of my game. It will be so no more, thanks to you.
This is literally just what I do, I don’t move my body, just my arms so I always hit the top of it or I will hook/slice it, thanks for this video as short range chipping is my biggest weakness. The video has my thumbs up 👍 😜
This fixed my regular swing to for some reason... 2 months into the season and i just remembered how to play golf again... what a god damn struggle, i hope i remember faster next season. Thanks danny
I committed to the "jar lid" swing thought today out on the course and it was transformative. I have never chipped and pitched the golf ball better. Feeling that athletic tension in my lower body as I screwed and unscrewed that jar lid made all the difference. My friends got tired of me yelling "Danny Maude you magnificent bastard!" as I kept pitching the ball within 5 feet of the hole and following up with a 1 putt. Thank you!
Hi Danny, I spent all afternoon screwing container lids on and off over 9 holes (Corona limit!). It worked a treat, both the striking and direction were a lot more consistent than before. Many thanks.
Good pointers here. I go through periods in which I actually get so concerned about blading the ball that I end up hitting behind or tapping the ball too gently. This video and the one you had earlier about sliding the shoe of the wedge through nicely, well both are good. Thanks.
Love your chipping tip to use your legs/body. Do you recommend using a 60 degree wedge for all chips? I use my 59 degree wedge for shots in which are 6 feet or less from where I am chipping from. I use my 9 iron or pitching wedge for chips that have a longer way to run to the cup. That works for me.
Danny Been struggling with the shanks with these short chips. Put your tip into practice and went out and hit 11 in a row perfect. Will keep practicing. Thanks mate!!
I am struggling with this exact thing. Pretty good tee to green. I tried this yesterday it worked great. I will continue to work on this. Thanks for a great video.
I just figure this out in the last few rounds recently to control the distance and landing spot with much more consistency than using the arms and hands, especially for those short delicate shots. Now can I apply the same principle to my driver? Can’t wait to find out.
This is awesome. This is the basic of how I was taught I love it. Do you already have or can you make a video on how you practice distant control between wedges and back spin
I struggled with my short game for years. Couldn’t get below 14. I was shown a very similar technique by my club pro. I worked on it over lockdown. I now have a consistent short game and am down to 8. More importantly, I now have a confidence around the greens and get up and down,on average, 3-4 times a round.
Worked on this around the practice green yesterday and it works 8 times of out of ten. It also works with soft wrists or firm. One thing I took from the practice was to trust the shot and commit to the strike.
Used the technique this morning. Huge improvement on my approach shots to to green. way more consistent. In the words of actor Robert DeNiro, "youuuuuu, you're good you!"
Hi Danny, million thanks for coaching us this natural chipping movement.. Will definitely make it easier for me to remember and perform well. Best regards.
Well, I thought I was the only one. Reading several comments below, my chipping usually is the achilles heel of my game as well. I'm so uptight when I have to hit a difficult chip. I'd be much closer to the pin with a full wedge into the green. I'm appreciative that you have several videos on chipping, because I need all the help I can get performing this critical scoring shot. Brilliant instruction, as always, Danny! (Must feel nice to be back out on the course. Your course looks in great shape!) Have a Happy Easter with the family!
I wish I lived closer, you could probably knock 6 shots off my game with your coaching. I need to practice my chipping technique, but in the right way.👍🏾
Cheers for another great video. I note the continued theme of single hand swings. I now routinely practice swinging my driver with one hand with the thought of chucking a stone & it has done wonders for my timing & ball striking of driver, fairway woods & irons.
Great vid Danny. Quick question. At what distance does this swing change to your irons swing, i.e. when do you decide to not pitch and swing the club with the drive included?
Danny...I turned one of my golf partners onto your site and after seeing this video he claimed he hit a shot on a part of the club he's never used - the grooves:) Since most of the time he skulls it across the green. Great tip
Hi Danny. This has been really helpful. My very short game has always been hit and miss, so I will be putting your tips to the test this afternoon! Fingers crossed!
Great video -easy to follow and execute Danny. The chips on steep downhill slopes are the killers for me as well as those that are literally 3-4 inches off the green but in long grass, ball buried - how on earth do you control distance on those?
with great difficulty. Whenever we are coming out of rough its not possible to 100% guarantee the strike so it's unpredictable. Technique wise make sure you are always swinging down the slope
This is excellent teaching ! I do have to say I only improved when adopting these techniques is when I KEPT THE CLUB AS LOW AS POSSIBLE on the (shortish) backswing. That made the biggest difference because then I could actually brush the grass and find the bottom of my chip arc. Once you can find the bottom of your chipping motion, you will start chipping well. At least I did, and it has not been a trivial improvement.
Just said this on another video from 2 years ago, but it's insane....GOAT of YT instruction!
Getting back onto a real golf course, chipping was the thing I was finding slightly frustrating. I watched your video on Saturday morning just before heading out to play and it was immediately helpful - including (perhaps especially) on 40-50 yard pitch shots. Great to hear! Thanks for the feedback
This video and your tips INSTANTLY changed my short pitches. No more chunks or skulked shots. Nothing but crisp contact! Thank you!
That’s awesome Dean

Thanks for making this so simple to understand and apply. Went out and played and the consistency is unbelievable. You can apply this method for all 100 yard and in shots. Truly a game changer!
Awesome, thanks for sharing your results Ari
This idea of being connected is massively relevant in a full swing as well. Love the idea of the turn starts from the ground up
absolutely Alan, this does indeed apply to the full swing
100%. and putting as well! Have been struggled chipping for a long time and, it's been all I practice for a year+. Really happy to help,
This changed my whole swing thought on every shot. My game improved instantly
That’s wonderful Chris, thanks for sharing
That's great Danny. These are the drills we casual golfers need for some consistency & repeatability in the short game. Cheers!
Thanks!
Pleasure Dean, all the best
Love the analogy of the screwing the lid feeling, can see it really helping me when I get a bit 'armsy'. The drill stick is a good aide too - just need to do it when there are no greenkeepers around!!

Omg this works so well and it's so easy. The screw unscrew feeling makes it so easy.
That’s brilliant, happy to help
This is a part of my game that really needs improvement. Can't wait to try this! Thanks for all the videos.
Have fun Kathleen

Cool 😎
Great instruction. The bottom to top philosophy is spot on.
Thanks so much Marvin

CONSISTENCY; the #1 goal of every golfer. Hit it where you are aiming... what a concept! ! Great video.
Happy to help 👍
Fantastic video. Took this out on the course this week and I've never chipped with such consistency. Thanks Danny, keep up the great work.
That’s awesome Stephen well done
Thanks Danny. Had my best chipping round yesterday with this tip. I usually suck at chipping so this is most certainly a game changer!
Brilliant! Thanks for sharing
I tried it and works well. Thanks
That’s awesome, thanks for sharing
Just what I needed. Thanks!
Danny, very helpful, so important to make short game swing simple and repeatable, really enjoy your video lessons, Ken White Plains NY
Tried this the other day...so easy! Just need to dial in length of swing vs distance . Great advice thanks Danny
That’s awesome, thanks for sharing

Thanks Danny another simple to understand chipping technique. Off to play on Monday and hopefully will keep the lid on! Cheers again Trevor
Love it, have fun Trevor

Nice ... sounds good. Chipping is the worst part of my game ... but this explanation for sure can help. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Very good chipping demonstration. Thanx.
Thanks Joe, all the best
You are an excellent instructor. Screw the lid. What a great chipping thought.

Same here, great help this video will try this next round 👍🏻👍🏻
This fixed my regular swing to for some reason... 2 months into the season and i just remembered how to play golf again... what a god damn struggle, i hope i remember faster next season. Thanks danny
Thanks for sharing Mike
I committed to the "jar lid" swing thought today out on the course and it was transformative. I have never chipped and pitched the golf ball better. Feeling that athletic tension in my lower body as I screwed and unscrewed that jar lid made all the difference. My friends got tired of me yelling "Danny Maude you magnificent bastard!" as I kept pitching the ball within 5 feet of the hole and following up with a 1 putt. Thank you!
Funny, well done Nicholas 👊🏻
Good to see you out on the links Danny. The usage of the ailment stick is brilliant...hats off Steve!
Yes, so good to get back out on the golf course
Danny
Been struggling with the shanks with these short chips. Put your tip into practice and went out and hit 11 in a row perfect. Will keep practicing. Thanks mate!!
Well done and thanks for taking the time to share
I am struggling with this exact thing. Pretty good tee to green. I tried this yesterday it worked great. I will continue to work on this. Thanks for a great video.
The best tip I've seen. Works instantly.
That’s brilliant Frank, thanks for sharing
Well done, Danny. I always enjoy your explanations. In this case, simply move left/right by flexing at the knees.
Thank you Ralph, appreciate the support
Just what I needed thank you
What a beautiful day for your video. Thanks for the instruction!
Thanks for sharing this. I see that my wide stance is my problem in the short game.
A slightly narrower Stance helps to get the shaft more vertical
I just figure this out in the last few rounds recently to control the distance and landing spot with much more consistency than using the arms and hands, especially for those short delicate shots. Now can I apply the same principle to my driver? Can’t wait to find out.
This is awesome. This is the basic of how I was taught I love it. Do you already have or can you make a video on how you practice distant control between wedges and back spin
Great Stuff Danny. Thank You. Excellent Coaching
You are very welcome, hope it helps your short game
Started watching a week ago...now hit my irons solid 94%of the time. My stance has improved and my hands dont hurt after a round. Thanks Bruv
That’s awesome, thanks for sharing
Nice to see you back out on course. Simulator is nice but love seeing the course videos
Yes really enjoying being back out there

Cheers for another great video. I note the continued theme of single hand swings. I now routinely practice swinging my driver with one hand with the thought of chucking a stone & it has done wonders for my timing & ball striking of driver, fairway woods & irons.

Hi Danny. This has been really helpful. My very short game has always been hit and miss, so I will be putting your tips to the test this afternoon! Fingers crossed!
This really helped my round today. Every chip was clean and no duffs.
Love your videos Danny, always really well explained and easy to follow drills.
Thank you Karen, really happy to help
Great video -easy to follow and execute Danny. The chips on steep downhill slopes are the killers for me as well as those that are literally 3-4 inches off the green but in long grass, ball buried - how on earth do you control distance on those?
with great difficulty. Whenever we are coming out of rough its not possible to 100% guarantee the strike so it's unpredictable. Technique wise make sure you are always swinging down the slope
Great video, Danny! Would love to see putting tips and drills soon.
Coming soon Mark
This is excellent teaching !
I do have to say I only improved when adopting these techniques is when I KEPT THE CLUB AS LOW AS POSSIBLE on the (shortish) backswing.
That made the biggest difference because then I could actually brush the grass and find the bottom of my chip arc. Once you can find the bottom of your chipping motion, you will start chipping well. At least I did, and it has not been a trivial improvement.
Thanks Chuck!
Good job Danny I doing chipping at range more than anything thus why I don’t totally blow a round.
That’s great Jerry
And that paid off today because I had three chip in birdie’s and then one in the lake on a par three and that chip in 3rd for par so worked today
@@jatalberg amazing! Well done
Danny you are an absolute legend ! Another fantastic lesson.
Thank you Dylan 😁
