Tykätä vs Pitää vs Välittää ● What's The Difference?

- Опубликовано: 11 июл 2024
- I've received some messages recently asking me to clarify the difference between the Finnish words: tykätä, pitää and välittää. So that is what we will go over in this video lesson!
Summary:
- Tykätä = to like (used more in puhekieli, go-to word when talking about liking something)
- Pitää = to like (used more in kirjakieli, but not weird to say in spoken language either)
- Välitää = to care about / to care for someone or something
"I" forms:
- Minä/Mä tykkään __ = I like __
Mä tykkään Sidneystä = I like Sidney
- Minä/Mä pidän __ = I like ___
Mä pidän jääkiekosta = I like hockey
- Minä/Mä välitän ___ = I care about ____
Mä välitän luonnosta = I care about nature

Good content. Really funny to hear a native Finnish speaker say the full infinitive of the verb 'to va:lita:a:' as a native English speaker!
Kiitos paljon kat, you make may language training very easy. Godbless always
Thank you! 😃

Because I came in Finland two months ago, I need to learn Finnish language.I was really looking for a good RUclips channel in order to learn Finnish language. I am glad to find your channel unexpectedly 😊. I watch your videos everyday regularly. And I really like your English accent. It is really fluent and understandable and not complicated.
It is good to mention that your appearance I mean your face has not changed in six years which you made your RUclips channel. It attracted my eyes.😊😉❤
Keep up the good work!
Wish you motivation and strength to keep going. Thank you.❤

I know only minä raksatan sinua
😍

ps: I like how shy you are ☺
Thanks for everything 🎉
Kiitos! :)
Hei!
Kiitos paljon!
kiitos paljon :) tykään sinun videosta ja sinun huoneesta
Jee kiitos Eugene!! :D
Thank you
Why I can’t get off my eyes on your lips and smile I smiled to🤣 I can’t believe we have a beautiful intructor😌
kiitos kiitos xD
Kiitos!
I love your video i learn a lot
Kiitos!
You can use a verb after tykätä to say that you like doing something. This does not work with pitää as it can only be followed by a noun.
I really like how fluent your change of register is. En ainakaan kuule minkäänlaista foneettista notkahdusta vaihdoissa englannista suomeen ja suomesta englantiin. Maybe I just don't get chances to speak both of them simultaniously, but I find it in myself, and most S2-speakers of English background I've heard, having a noticable click between the registers.
Kuulin kanavasta Katherine of Skyn Dc-ryhmän Linguistics-alakanavalla. Seurasin saman tien mutta tämä oli ensimmäinen video jonka katsoin. Gud stoff.
Oh that is really interesting to hear! Thanks for sharing, it's hard to notice these things about your own speaking xD Mut ehkä se on enemmän, koska opin molemmat kielet yhtäaikaa pienenä
And thanks for sharing where you heard about this channel from, I always find it interesting to know. Kiitos!
@@KatChatsFinnish
Aa niin tosiaan, being bilingual does that to you! Sangen totta!
Onnea valitsemallasi tiellä! Kielikanavia on pilvin pimein (kuten vaik minun alt-channelini) mutten ole vielä koskaan ennen törmännyt sujuvaan suomikanavaan.
And valittaa means to complain 😅 i still can't say ä and a correctly 😬
Hahaha that is true! Better practice the ä first or there might be some confusion xD
"MINÄ VALITAN SINUSTA!"
...but why? :c
You and me both, and my first language was Finnish, many years ago. Words I spoke as a child, no problem. Words I learn as an adult, not so much. Kat does well and I like she tends to do puhukieli which I'm much happier with.
Kiitos 👍
Kat hein you are way of teaching i's very very impressive and Undarstandable thanks alot for finnish Teaching on utube il trop lession from your chanal empressive girl
Kiitos!❤️
Aw kiitos tosi paljon for supporting my channel, I really truly appreciate it! 😊
Dear Kat, thanks a lot for your huge job and the super positive spirit of your videos!!! Could you explain, please, what the difference is: "pian" and "kohta"? Million of thanks in advance! 🤗🌷
Thank you so much for the lovely comment! I'll add this to my list :D
Could you do another translation video, but of the Finnish Numa Numa by Skidipops?
Hei Kat.
I really like this video also. One question, how would someone say, or is there an equivalent/similar expression for I like your videos, or I like your drawing, house, hat, car etc. etc.
I think you can just use the verb “tykätä” ~ so “Tykkään sun videoista” (I like your videos) and ”tykkään piirtää”(I like to draw) ”tykkään tästä hatusta” (I like this hat)
@@KatChatsFinnish okei. What about, I like your videos best?
@@bengray4339 You could say: "tykkään videoistasi eniten" = I like your videos the most
@@KatChatsFinnish okei, loistava! (Loistava - is that the right thing to say when you feel pleased?)
@@bengray4339 Yes it is! Joo se on!
Kiitos ..
Kiitos paljon Kat. I just want to ask if you still need to add the sta/stä if the word used after the word tykätä is also a verb like for example I like to play basketball or I like to swim. Kiitos 😊
Replying from this channel haha but yes depending how you phrase the sentence:
Tykkään koripallosta = I like basketball / Tykkään pelata koripalloa = I like playing basketball
Tykkään uimisesta = I like swimming / Tykkään uida = I like to swim
Thank you so much .....I love you like hell ....thank you for puhe kieli.
haha kiitos paljon!
@@KatChatsFinnish I'm your fan long time ago .I had changed emails many times that's why that does not show I'm a real fan of yours .but I'm .I feel like you are a part of my life cuz so many years been your fan .....I can wait for you in the future when you get old .that time maybe you would accept me as a lover hahah I really love you like a hell .
Kiitos
Minä tykkaan tästä videosta ❤️❤️😂😂

Kiitos paljon!

Yess 🙌
Please explain mä oon and mä ei ole ,and how to used SSA and STA .. kiitos
Which is correct
Mä tykkään juoda kahvia
Or
Mä tykkään juoda kahvista?
Your videos are very helpful to my study! Kiitos paljon!
Mä tykkään juoda kahvia :)
Kiitos!!
@@KatChatsFinnish okei! kiitos paljon! :)
❤️🥃
Moi... Do you have a video on sattu kipea and sarkee... I'm still confused on that.. Thank you.
I think I just have a basic "being sick" one called "Learn Finnish: When You Are Sick | Common Sickness Names In Finnish" - but "sattuu" means something hurts, "kipeä" is to be sick and "särkee" is when something aches eg "päänsärky" = headache
minä pidän katsoa sun vedio joka päivä
Well, I should be a more advanced student to better understand everything, but I understand that these expressions are so important. :)
Thank you always for being so kind!
Kiitti. Can you make a video about relative pronoun joka and the likes(jossa, johon, etc) I cannot comprehend that topic well. Thank you 😊
So you have add ( -sta ) to the thing you like .. even if it's a band or a person ?
Yes! :) For example: Tykkään Ellasta = I like Ella
o are you cam I am happy😗
In question sentence can I say tykkäätko sä aurinkoinesta sää? And in to answer sentence can I say mä tykkään aurinkoinen sää.. Is that 🙄.
Kiitos for your great response
Yes you can!
tykkäätkö sä aurinkoisesta säästä?
mä tykkään aurinkoisesta säästä!
:D
@@KatChatsFinnishahh kiitos.. Sta sta case.
Could someone explain why we use elative form (-sta) with pitää and tykätä? For example, "tykätä suomesta" sounds to me like it means "I like out of Finland", and I am confused 😅
I don't think there is a specific reason? xD
uusikielemme.fi/finnish-grammar/finnish-cases/location-cases/the-elative-case-mista-finnish-grammar
@@KatChatsFinnish 🙏kiitos paljon! It would seem to me that the real difficulty about finnish grammar isn't about noun cases, it's about the way in which verbs use them. Hopefully there isn't too much of the tricky ones.
Apparently this "agreement" between certain verbs and noun forms is called "rection", for anyone interested.
@@MrLovre i think in case of 'pitää' it is because that word is used for different things so when you use elative form it can not be confused to something else.
and if you use it in longer sentence example 'pidän Katjaa opettajana'= you think Katja as a teacher and 'pidän Katjasta opettajana' =you like Katja as a teacher.
Well, we just use that case for opinions. Liking people or things counts. Or, maybe it is about the impression I get of you more than you since I am not sure how well I actually know you.
This a country I always want to visit unfortunately never happen. While I was visiting Norway & Sweden I thought about it . But my time was inconvenience
Maybe one day :)

Merci Catherine! Kiitos tosi paljon for supporting my channel! You're the one from IG that I talk to a lot right? :D
@@KatChatsFinnish Niin, se olen minä 😀👋🏼! Thank YOU for sharing all those great videos ☺️
What is JVG though?
They're a hip-hop band from Finland
Hei! Why "Kiitos todella paljon ... ", not "Kiitos tosi paljon ... "?
"tosi" is the puhekieli version of "todella" - they are the same word! :)
@@KatChatsFinnish Kiitos!
I always read pitää as keep
Pitää-as?
Yeah, imagine you're a kid and you find a kitten on the road, you could plead your mom "Voidaanko me pitää se?" (Can we keep it?)
As she said, there's several different ways to use "pitää" but another very common one that comes to mind right now is "to hold"
"Voiksä pitää tätä?" (Can you hold this? F.ex. you're walking with your friend, eating a muffin :D, and your shoelaces open. You don't want to put it on the ground while you tie them, so you ask your friend to hold it for you for a second.)
mä tykkään tästä osasta 🎥 (6:20) 😄✌🤡
