Thank you Deepak Joshi for an excellent analysis. Congratulations to The Print team for starting this series. Applaud the hard work put in by all three.
For the last 26 years, I am the founder and Director of a 100% foreign-funded NGO. I support all the changes made by different governments. NGOs talk of transparency but cry foul when it comes to them. It is really praiseworthy that subsequent FC transfers have been stopped. Last more than 2 decades feudalism of NGOs developed. Funders started shifting bulk money to a large "Mathadeesh" ( called lead NGOs in the jargon) in metros that exploited small genuine grassroots NGOs.
Excellent for Civil Service aspirant To make it better if at the end you can provide a type-written summary in points it will be cherry on the cake For ex. A. FCRA - History Point 1 Point 2 B. FCRA- Clauses Point 1 Point 2 Point 3 C. FCRA - Challenges Point 1 Point 2 Point 3 D. FCRA - Way Forward Point 1 Point 2 Point 3 It will also help the casual viewers remember the information for a longer time period thus adding value to their life
A great analysis and insight of the the topic and got the answers of all the questions that were looming in my head after these recent judgements. Continue with this series. Great work🌟
The question of opaqueness of Electoral Bonds so important for Democracy whether funded by Indian or Foreign Companies or individuals is not a priority for listing in SC. Political parties refuse to come under RTI. They collectively find ways to circumvent to stay away from public radar and than follow a long and tardy process in courts. Accountability to the public is the last thing on their agenda.
I am disappointed that a person who knows the law is so biased in his approach towards a very important topic of foreign funding which had resulted in terrorist orgs being benefited and conclusions which are so biased .. I can present a equally strong case for all the provisions laid out and the recent changes have been an outcome of investigation carried out by agencies and shown that the radical organisation were left untouched all these years and were infiltrated the society with such contribution to destroy the harmony of the state. I cannot image such important topics is dealt with such simplistic conclusions that as if we are living in the year 1860
One of the important aspects of this Act is Banks which receive funds into their account. A banker should have also been involved to discuss their point of view to make it more wholistic
Ironically FCRA was brought in to curb foreign interference in Indian politics through foreign funding. This law under Modi has been changed to prevent disclosure of foreign funding of political parties retrospectively from last 40 years. Everybody has to disclose source of foreign funding except political parties.
In the name of sovereignty of nation these acts tend to stop the solidarity of world organizations who work to strengthen the human rights situation as well as spreading a new consciousness of universal ethics in social economic and political life of peoples of community of nations. They are like stopping the neighbours who would ring your door-bell on hearing sounds of domestic violence, and other abuses in one family. Foreign should not be looked at with a narrow nationalistic view but like the neighbour who would ring your door bell and carry on the community consciousness in the comity of nations.
@sri. Not that innocuous! These money funneled in are routinely used for subversion of local religious, cultural, economic and political traditions. I.4 billion people of India can help itself for any worthy cause of common good. Let's not sugarcoat saboteurs like Amnesty or Ford Foundation.

Excellent work theprint team. As citizen we need to look at the nuts and bolts of the Indian laws to make informed decision.

Mind Begs the Question:
If under a PM/Govt
Judges removed,murdered
If Judgment not Favorable
Judiciary - not Pressured,Pressured?
Unlike Apporva, I can never say “as I understand in this conversation” because I don’t understand anything in this conversation.
