  • I got to check out this upper receiver and I liked how it is not only self contained, but also works with standard 9mm lowers. No buffer tube needed and the rail adaptor is included, what’s not to like? Of course things look good but does it run at the range? We check it out in detail, go over the features and of course how it shoots.

    $479 at OPTICS PLANET
    (1) Being that most people don't run suppressors, a dialed in "Pimped out of the box" set-up makes sense and offers a lot of value.
    (2) I'm sure that R&D Precision did extensive R&D on their direct blowback design (LOL) and I'd venture to guess that it has been tested with a suppressor. They probably came to the conclusion that to get it to function with longevity & reliability suppressed, they'd need to offer an increased spring-rate spring kit and that would likely make it unreliable when shot un-suppressed.
    (3) I'd also be willing to bet that they determined that the muzzle brake/compensator combo perfectly mitigates recoil & muzzle rise 1st and then styled the handguard to match it.
My conclusion is that this is a better engineered firearm, vs guns like the CZ scorpion and it's double spring design sort of resembles a B&T, accept the secondary recoil spring is not hydraulic and is mounted to the receiver, rather than the back of the bolt.
With all of the above in mind, I wouldn't be surprised if R&D Precision were to offer a threaded barrel variant in the future, with the rear stop spring replaced with a hydraulic spring piston. Which would lend itself to shooting suppressed & un-suppressed. I'd imagine that the intial design will have to garner enough of a following to make that viable. Before they do this, they will have to generate enough revenue with the original design to finance a second production line & tooling.
Just my initial thoughts on this great addition to the many 9mm PDWs that are available.
    I own H&K, B&T, AR9 & a couple other 9mm PDWs, but if I was looking for a light sub-$1,000 un-suppressed PDW, I'd strongly consider one of these...

Why such a long bolt cycle distance for a 9mm?

Any FTF? FTE or any other issues? How much ammo did you put down range?

It looks like the same setup BCA uses.

Actually the PW9 has been out approx 3 years. BCA bufferless came out last year, I believe. So, the BCA setup looks like the PW9. Lol.

I hate to be that one guy but you should check the ATF's latest flip-flopping on pistol braces, before it lands you in any trouble, as you know the ATF will always be on the prowl for some oblivious law abiding citizen to make an example of.

Not that worried. This was produced when braces were ok and now it’s a good old stamper SBR
