In 1973 I was sent to Synanon by a juvenile court judge on a 602 charge. When they tried to shave my head I said, nope! And ran away that night.
Glad to finally see Cassidy Arkin receiving a bigger spotlight for story. So many back in those days experienced things this generation would cringe on. Our parents and ancestors were stronger than this newer generation could ever dream to be. Modern people are too spoiled by technology. It disconnected us all from reality. This story of Synanon is reality. I've vowed to myself I'd never join any social or religious groups etc. God is my only hope and faith in life. I'll love my neighbor as my own self. That's all you get from me.
How strong were they to fall for a cult 😭
Laugh all you want buddy. They say "Only the strong survive." Those who survive do have a second chance after their mistakes. They deserve a pat on the shoulder. This newer generation should take notes.
Well some one say that this is not the reality of the newer generation because through technology information can be shared...the newer folks won't give their power away so easily, because there are other avenues that can be accessed.
I hear you @ericwhitmorec. No they won't just give it away --- It'll be stripped away and taken by the forces of nature. 2023 film "Leave The World Behind" gives this generation their last warning. Empire's rise and they too fall. After 250 years of prime rule, the most strongest nations began to crumble. Technology won't save them.

I was send to CEDU, the TTI program founded by Mel Wassermen and other members of Synanon. CEDU was named after Chuck, and they used the same practice like Raps (game) and Propheets (trips). They did whatever they can to dupe parents into sending and keeping their kids there, and they hired anyone no matter how unqualified they are. They hired musicians, failed businessman, alcoholics, and child molesters, and even a murderer who was convicted later on. There were kids who committed suicide on campus, kids got graped and molested, kids ran away and got graped, kids who went missing and still missing to this day. There were peer groups that had suicide rate as high as 60%. Whatever good intention it had in the 60-70s, it morphed into a monster later on.
I marvel at the no. if people willing to give their personal power away it's just astounding.

The childrens compound is now Walker Creek Ranch. Kids from grade schools in Marin County go there for a week. There is NO CONTACT with your child, you do not know what they are taught there.
Ask child protective services to investigate it!
Why do kids go there for a week?
Then it has only evolved into something that can be and is protected. Call CPS immediately.
Often times, these things don’t die out- just better hidden.
And if it only “disbanded” in 1991- remnants are still there.. for sure.
@@Starfish2145 It's run by Marin County of Education. Has nothing to do with the cult. The cult just so happened to be in a beautiful area. It is outdoor education. They don't stay for a week but a couple of days with permission slips and with teachers. Has zero to do with the cult. No need to call CPS. The old compound is a state park and conference center.
Anything becomes a cult, once you start having, rituals and plans that, cant be spoken aloud.
I would say your actions fit into that category and there are people like that who are control freaks and evil and think they can use any means necessary to acheive a goal and they would do that regardless of which religion they are affiliated with.

When Synanon sent it minions to help the United Farm Workers in one of their many historic strikes, the UFW already counted on a very enthusiastic cadre of supporters, which included nuns and priests from the Catholic Church. These folks had to participate in the Synanon “game” that was made part of UFW organizing in the early 1970s. The non-cultist supporters left the UFW and left it vulnerable to this takeover by the Synanon cult. It took a while to get rid of them, but it actually damaged the Union for many years. This chapter of Synanon’s California Empire is often left out.
It is extremely difficult to have a group that starts out with a good thing and good intentions and maintain it. A very small number of these groups survive We call them religions the others we call cults which is somewhat of a misnomer.
How many episodes?
I like her. And the doc was very interesting. Sort of different when you talk about anything to do with cult activity. But these people for the most part seemed liked really good people who only wanted to find some kind of peaceful space in their lives. And I don't believe that the leaders were evil but only troubled. Just like everyone is.
What was the purpose of that " interview" ? It told nothing ,it was just watch this. Why is news doing commercials?

It's a special on cbs. So yes, they are promoting a show on their station and highlighting a news piece. Pretty normal.

All I can tell you about Synanon is my personal experience. My kid sister ran away from our abusive parents in Massachusetts and escaped to NYC at age 16 in 1967. She spend a couple of years as an underage Go Go Dancer and as an underage bartender around Times Sqare. She finally hit the wall when her wannabe Gangsta BF got her pregnant and then disappeared. She turned to Synanon and they really turned her life around. They got her clean & sober, helped put her baby up for adoption, and got her connected with enough education so that by age 19 she was a secretary at Chase Manhattan Bank in midtown Manhattan.
I think that all the bad publicity around this group parallels the bad publicity that was out there about the Black Panthers at the same time. Big Brother do not want any competition, especially from those who accidentally make Big Brother look bad. All the "witnesses" here are the Losers who couldn't or wouldn't make Synanon work for them. Do NOT Believe the A-Holes who produced this Propaganda Video until you check out Synanon on your own.

Yup, just like ‘dark’. You know. That’s right, no racism here, just history as this terms comes from the Middle Ages. Look that up, open a book, get educated, stop playing the victim.
