Nice sign. I'd suggest painting the wood first, turn up your air assist a bit and then engrave. Defocus a bit for darker engraving. It's what I do with a c02 and no need for painting any of the dark areas. You can also use borax for darkening. Denatured alcoholic works great for cleaning any leftover charring. Very awesome job on painting your characters. Looks great!
Thanks for the tips, Ron! I saved those for future use! It’s been fun figuring out this laser thing and I’m finding good practical use for one in my woodshop. Thanks for watching and taking time to share your experience! Much appreciated! Cheers!
Love the sign. As was mentioned, painting white first would be good. A product I like to used for black or brown colors is Laser Dark. It has a mask that you apply before the engraving, run through the laser, spray your color allow a few minutes to dry, then apply clear and wait about 15-20 minutes and remove the mask.
Hey! Thank you! I’ll check that out! Thanks for the recommendation!
I almost lost my pinky setting a huge beam and my iron worker buddy told me that when he saw what happened lol
lol! I knew right away how important of a message this was. I had to get it out there! Thanks for the laugh this morning!
I was going to suggest painting white first, masking entire piece, then engrave. After engrave you can spray paint black into the engraved space and peel off masking. Would still need to paint the other colors.
Dude! Thanks for the suggestion! I was thinking that too! I think I’d also be able to paint the whole thing black, then white, then engrave and the engraving would remove the white and leave the black but haven’t tried it yet.
@WoodNerds worth a try. If you do it, make I video cause I'd watch it. But be mindful of charing on the white from engraving. The masking tape also protects from smoke and flare ups.
@elopez1369 good ideas! Thanks man!
Showed this vid to a friend of mine. Now he wants one just like it to hang up at work next to their "safety board."
Any chance you will sell already complete ones?
Thanks for sharing my video! That would be an awesome place for one haha! I don’t have time to make any right now but in the future, I might make a run of them. I’d have to come up with a faster way of producing though, right now, it’s a good amount of freehand painting and for the time to pay off it would cost an arm and a leg and that is a hard sell.
Yeah I see that. If I had my life in order more I'd buy a laser and just "send it." Too many hobbies, stuff that demands my attention, and a day job to add something in right now
@KITDFOHS amen to that! I’d love to spend time working on product ideas and selling those but I have 100+ projects to get to and a honey do list just as long. Blessing and a curse I suppose. I appreciate you reaching out and sharing the video. Good luck with your projects! Hope y’all have a great Christmas!
